Ok, submitted...played around with some ideas of simple nice utility items but then decided to go different route and make something player characters wouldn't use but DM might. I am thinking about the country and other entries but indeed would like to hear more specific requests to really start writing those.

I think it is like lurking but involves cookies. Y'know smelling them bake, but never eating them. I could be wrong and it could involve pom poms on your shoes and a kilt. Or is it the thing will the elephant and a blender? hmmm maybe miming zero G? O:)

I came up with something designed around an unusual material component. Hopefully it will knock the judges' socks off but even if it doesn't... well, wondrous items aren't my "usual thing" so it was fun just to try stretching that part of my brain muscles.

Yeah - I came up with five different items, rejected all of them and threw something else together. I undcerstand why they limit it to one entry per person, but its frustrating thinking, what if I had submitted the other one instead.
Oh well, I am preferring to think positive and taking steps to prepare the next entry (A Country?), I'm not sure what they want, but since (assuming I make it) I will have only five days to work on it, I prefer to get started now.
I hope all of you make it to the next round..
(Err.. actually I only hope 31 of you make it to the next round..
but that seems a rather selfish attitude. :)

5? I created 21 last night. not the crunch, just the fluff. I did it just a creativity exercise and most are tongue in cheek (pin of safety, temporarily [i]mends[/] common items and protects the user from minor piercing wounds.) still which one is the best.... got 3 days to figure it out...

Done. Now on to the waiting. Like so many others on the boards I had quite a few ideas and even wrote 5-6 of them up. But in the end I decided to go with my first idea. I figured if it was the first thing to enter my head when I found out about the contest, then it was good enough for my submission. Good Luck to everybody!

Good luck everyone!
We judges are having a blast. And some serious discussions on all of the items. We are really taking this seriously and we are committed to doing it all the way through. No Judge Fatigue here!!! In fact, we have been getting more and more into it.
Keep em coming! And dont worry that we've got too many good ones. This thing is still wide open.

Wait a minute....who is the .07 of a person that submitted an item?
Or who is going to claim to be another .07 of a person? Submit your entry in this new-NEW contest... ;P

Like most, I pondered, wondered, polled my players: past + present, debated, deleted, recovered, buried beneath my cat's liter box for 24 hours, hung it out to dry in the sun, locked it in a closet on a shelf between the AD&D Unearthed Arcana and the 3.5 DMG for another 24 hours and them submitted it. All to give it that "first edition" feel. (And so that I could blame make cat if it stinks...)

Indeed, nervous. I hope I make it, but if I don't, I know I'll see some amazing items there (after all, no one would post a "lame-wondrous" item on purpose).
The only thing that I regret is doing it during a slow time during work, on a whim-- that means I don't know if everything was properly written (english is not my first language, though I did my best).
Good luck to all.

Oi! Away and sent she is, swift to the inboxes of the fine Paizo crew, beloved be our remembrance of the Dragon!
I feel like I've just sent my kid of to his first day of school, certain in my heart of hearts that he'll be beaten up, nose badly bloodied & lunch money snatched, before he even makes it to his desk.
Sigh. His mother dresses him funny, after all.
But regarding the deep soul-searching that accompanied the brainstorming process, and the culling of submission candidates from the Many to the Few to the Only, and the polishing of that Only into the finest mere ten-score of words that I could manage:
Good times. I second the emotion that no matter the outcome, should I find myself on the endless roll of the dead and discarded or not, I now have an exciting item to set into the hands of my PCs and NPCs alike.
I applaud the good people of Paizo for making the time to do a contest of this scope and style. We're a mere week into the contest, and I'm already having the best time ever. Here's hoping that the judges are having as good a time reading the entries as I had writing mine up; and if I'm beaten, I hope only that it's by the very best of the best of the best.
Woontal |
200 words is sooo not enough...especially adding all that delicious flavour text!
I won one of the earlier online comps the buys at Paizo ran, and I swear that was a lot longer than 200 words!
Maybe I can rehash my previous win for a...mutter mutter...no, stick with the holy invisible undergarments...

"holy invisible undergarments"...?
Woontal, unless you're crazy enough to actually submit such an item, I fully expect to see the full listing for this in the "Wondrous Items: Uncouth" thread.

I ran my list of 22 by my players to see which one I should focus on. They narrowed the list to 10 or 11 is all and three of them they have asked for intro to the campaign. I got my work cut out for me this weekend. Fortunately it is fun stuff *grin*

Yep. Submitted yesterday or so. A darn sight of fun between grad school projects and sending out abstracts.
Bit curious if my concept of twisting something old to feel new (and fresh) again will work. We shall see.
Good luck to all. The great thing about marketing contests like this is that we all get to share a bit in the dream and watch a new artist truly achieve a dream. Likely several participants will make a genuine contribution to our greater gaming community through this process.
The interactivity and shared experience really makes the internet worth all those pop-up ads. ;)

Well, I submitted a while back. Was a fun entry, though its hard to say how well liked it would be.
If I am selected though, I have some ideas flowing for the next few stages of the game. :) Though they could just as well be used to abuse, er I mean excite, my players.
I think I will enjoy my chosen theme though, no matter the outcome.
Good luck to all entered and Hope to see you all on the next stage of this quest. ;)

Point taken Darkjoy. An evil mathematically sound conspiracy seems to already surround us. They control the number of us that enters so that they can have their 'Golden Ratio'.
Oh no...its all becoming clear...anyone ever seen the movie "Pi"?
We are deep in it now...thats why they are having us submit to this contest! There is a deep hidden meaning in all of our submissions. By using the wordcounts and modifying that by the number of submissions...they are going to gain ultimate power.
Oh well, its Paizo. I'm fine with that.

I didn't enter the Gamemastery adventure contest (Congrats David!) because I was mired in a couple of writing assignment deadlines, but I won't be submitting to this RPG Superstar contest for a different reason. If a writer don't win, they've potentially created a wealth of writing that they'll lose creative control over, which could strip away all value if it's never used by Paizo and the writer is never allowed to re-use their own ideas. Then again, I have options to sell my ideas and not every writer has ways to get their work out. If a few brilliant new voices are discovered, Paizo has set themselves up nicely with a stable of dedicated writers in an unstable market and the world of RPG will be all the richer for it.
I think it's a great contest but I just have to get paid to write these days, even if it is only commissioned x-rated screenplays like the one I'm currently penning, V is for Vagina. You wouldn't believe what I changed Guy Fawkes' name to, and the climax is explosive.

Mmm, you should update your profile then ;-)

I was saying that even if I fail to make a profit at writing, I'll still do it every day because I am compelled to do so. That doesn't mean I'm not interested in selling my work or retaining some intellectual property rights.
And no sirree, I'm not one of those 200k a year writers who is on strike.
