Pathfinder - Where is it?

Customer Service

I have been w/o my email for a long while and just managed to get into it today. I noticed the email paizo sent me about my Pathfinder #1 and PPG. It has been a while, and I have been checking my mail box on a daily basis. So, I'm curious - has it actually been shipped yet?

Check under "My Account" and "Order History". This should show if/when it has shipped.

It says it shipped August 20th, but I have not yet received it. :\

If you elected for standard postal service... that means it can take up to 10 business days to get where it's going. And even then, that's just an estimate. Due to the fact that today's a holiday, 10 business days doesn't "come up" until tomorrow. So if your Pathfinder's not there for you tomorrow, then it's probably time to contact our customer service department to see what happened.

Of course, if you elected to have it shipped faster... then there's DEFINATELY something fishy going on.

I selected the 2-9 business day shipping plan.

James, my order of Pathfinder #1 (Order Number 782665 for reference) says "Shipped Aug 20, 2007". I haven't received it yet. Should I contact customer service or did something come up in shipping?

I've already read through the PDF download, so I'm not jones'ing bad for the hardcopy, just wondering if somebody somewhere might have dropped a ball. =)

Thanks!

Just got back from the mailbox and still no Pathfinder. What gives?

I still haven't received mine either....

Mine also shipped on August 20th. It reached my mailbox yesterday (I live in Tennessee). So depending on where you live, you might want to give it another day or two before deciding it's a no-show.

And how long you think it would take to get to Paris / FRANCE ?

Still waiting, but also confident...

Greetings,

I'll add another voice to the crowd. I also got the August 20th ship date, and still have not received my hardcopy (I do have the PDF). I selected the 4 to 10 business days. I live in NC.

I'm waiting with baited breath, and my face is starting to turn blue :) I'm pretty excited about getting this 1st issue.

I'm in the same boat. I live in CT, and according to the site, it shipped out 8/20. How many more days should I wait before I well and truly panic?

Mine says it shipped August 21st. It's not so much a complaint as a sadness for being so excited for the product and having a tough time bearing the wait, which is actually a good thing for Paizo. Hope nothing is wrong with the order, though. Any way to find out?

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

The estimate of 3–10 business days (which covers most US customers) actually takes us just to yesterday... but keep in mind that that's only an estimate. We'd like to give it a total of 18 business days before we start issuing replacements, so that would take us to 9/17 for copies shipped on the 20th.

The USPS doesn't offer tracking (except for Express Mail), so there's no way to check, but rest assured, if we say it shipped, the shipper picked it up from our warehouse long ago.

As for France, if you chose the default shipping option, I believe you were quoted 9 to 36 business days. Hopefully it won't take that long...

Buddy at work and I both received ours today (September 5th) in Michigan. Haven't opened mine yet (got the mail just before bed), but the packaging looks solid. I like it. We both had the August 20th mailing date. Looks like the 10 business days was about dead on. Not to shabby for not having any control over the postal process.

Believe me it takes that long and even longer... I'm in a huge argument with Amazon US right now on orders passed in May shipped and shipped again on July 16th, that should have arrived on Aug 27th and are still out in the wilds... Hopefully it won't be the same with Pathfinder, will it ? *cross fingers*

(Looks like I originally posted this in the wrong thread, eh, what else is new?)
In the same boat here, I'm in the soggy state, (AKA-Louisiana) My info page says it shipped the 20th, but the goblins haven't showed their ugly heads yet.

I'm not really upset, (I do have the PDF after all), just mildly frutrated, I'm really looking forward to the possibilities of this new series/world/etc. and I prefer to do my reading by holding the book in my hand. (I like that I live in the cool electronic age where I can do so much with my pc, but staring at a screen too long gives me a headache, and I just really like sitting back in a comfy chair and reading my book!)

To be fair tho, I did get home to the apartment late yesterday, so I couldn't check & see if the office had a package for me. The mailman appartantly doesn't think he needs to leave notes in the mailboxes all the time to let you know if he left a package. :P

So, no worries. Fortunately for me the anticipation has always been more fun than getting whatever it was I wanted.

(Whistles, waiting patiently for 5 seconds or so,...)

OK, That's enough fun. :P
Heeeeeere Gobby, gobby, gobbies!!!

Got mine today (6th), so for those of you worried, keep your heads up! It was worth the wait! And thanks for the response, Mr. Wertz.

I don't know the shipping method for your package from Amazon, but the package we shipped to you actually goes by a UPS service called Mail Innovations. Mail Innovations bundles it with a bunch of other packages headed to your part of France, and UPS takes it from there directly to a French postal service distribution center. This should make for a fairly speedy process....

Thanks for the input Vic. Typical paizonian efficiency :)) I'll keep you posted. Last time I ordered something physically from Paizo (Dungeon back issues I think) I received my stuff in less than two weeks. But it was at a time when I also had no problem with Amazon.

Perhaps there is a fellow who loves English books in Clichy post office, especially if it's for free. Stealing mail is not a crime in France. USA are a more civilized country. Should think about trying for the green card lottery one day, but Michael Moore keeps telling me it's a bad idea :))

I also have not yet received my order it shows it was shipped on August 21st.

No Pathfinder #1 here either. I had guessed living in the greater Seattle area would get the Pathfinder issues here faster, but apparently not?

The USPS moves and processes mail all days of the week, I'm unsure why something would be listed as business days. For US$1 more these subs could be sent by a faster rate, like Priority Mail, arrive within two to four days and all the packaging materials would be supplied by the USPS for free.

The US$17.03 has been in Paizo's hands since 8/22 and you want to wait 18 business days before you start shipping replacements?

Honestly, I'd expect you to be one of the first to receive it. I also expect that most months you will, but this month you're apparently unlucky.

Renaak wrote:

That's how the USPS estimates delivery times—they only count non-holiday weekdays (except for Express Mail services, where they also count Saturday for delivery purposes).

Renaak wrote:

You have the option to upgrade the shipping method for paid issues, and Priority is one of your options. (But you should be aware that Priority mail doesn't have guaranteed delivery times either.) Right now, the shipping method most commonly selected for Pathfinder is Bound Printed Matter. The cost difference between BPM and Priority varies depending on zone, but is significantly more than a dollar, even within Washington state. (And the free Priority Mail envelope is way too flimsy to ship something like Pathfinder in. If we just used that, we'd have a much, much higher percentage of damaged deliveries.)

I got my physical copies yesterday here in Dublin, they shipped on 23rd August. Strange thing was, the envelope had a franking mark on the front saying that it had been incorrectly sent to Iceland. I guess the Icelandic postal system is a bit sharper than the USPS...

That is seriously disconcerting.. Perhaps these are signs that the USPS is collapsing... Not good.

When I had a Dungeon subscription (for Age of Worms Adventure Path), the deliveries were extremely consistent.

My issue shipped on August 21st, and I still haven't gotten it. I live in Los Angeles.

Well, The GOOD news is, my Pathfinder finally arrived in Louisiana on the 11th. YAY!!!

The BAD news, it didn't have a happy trip.
It got mugged along the way I think, That would explain what took so long, and the condition it's in.
I don't know if the USPS is now using the infamous UPS "fragile" sorting machine, (you know, the one that makes sure that EVERY piece of glass in your box is broken by the time it gets there)Or if the postman started to fold it to fit in the mailbox, then changed his mind.
In short, the cardboard mailer is VERY beat up,(which would be ok if the contents had survived), but the spine of the Pathfinder is snapped in the center, resulting in a 1/4 inch tear on every page of the mag.(It kinda looks like a high school kid tried to prove he could rip a phone book in half.)

Before I go any farther, I know this is not your guys fault! But @#$% it's a little frustrating. I mean, I've fussed and worried about my Dragons and my new apartment mailbox, but even in New Orleans my Dragons almost always arrived unscratched, in only a plastic bag, usually in less than 5 days after shipping. This has taken since the 20th, in a cardboard box, and its mutilated. And we (technically you, since this is one of my free-shipping issues) are paying MORE for this shipping?
Somebody needs to have a SERIOUS talk with the USPS. Cuz' I smell bull-$#!^. !!!

Ok Rags, be constructive,...
1) USPS 4-10 day shipping (not guaranteed, but still) obviously having issues. (According to all of the "late" & "still-waiting" posts I'm seeing)
2) "Sturdy Cardboard Mailer" obviously not sturdy enough to protect the contents from whatever method the USPS is using to MIS-handle the package, at least in my region of the country. (Lafayette, Louisiana)Since we don't know exactly where the damage(s) happened, we don't know which branch of the USPS to fuss at.
3) I now have my #1 Pathfinder, but it is seriously damaged.
Obviously I would like another one, but I hesitate to ask knowing that it will have to take the same (apparently arduous) journey.

There, Now, having gotten my gripes out, allow me to add that I like the look of the new product. Laid out pretty well, looks great, I personally think the art is a little cartoonish, But I have read that that will be changing soon, and it certainly doesn't detract from the adventure or articles. The only "complaint" that I might make is the paper. While I like the glossy paper, it does make it a little more difficult to read under a good desk lamp, unless you angle the book to an unnatural (for me) angle. Is there a way to make it "semi-glossy" so it doesn't shine so much?
Trust me, if that is all I have found to complain about, you guys are doing a good job! I will definitely continue to check out Pathfinder for a few more issues before I make a "final" judgment.

Sorry this post is so long. It's late (almost midnite) I'm typing slow, & I didn't realize how much I was writing.
Thanks for reading, and listening, Keep up the good work!

Hi Ragadolf,

I'm sorry to hear that your Pathfinder arrived damaged! We can send you a replacement, and one will be sent as soon as possible.

However, we have done all we can to protect Pathfinder during transit. You will need to take this problem to your local post office to see what they can do to prevent this from happening on their end. Hopefully, this will end the problem.

If this doesn't fix the problem, you may need to upgrade to UPS for shipping. That shipping method provides a tracking number as well as insurance for your book. We definitely want to make sure that you can enjoy Pathfinder every month without having to worry if it makes it to you in one piece!

Hey guys. Pathfinder is still steadily arriving, so no worries quite yet. If you live in the US and your Pathfinder was shipped the 20-23rd of August and it hasn't arrived after your mail delivery on the 17th, please let us know at customer.service@paizo.com. We'll make sure everyone is taken care of, but want to give these first volumes plenty of time to arrive!

My Pathfinder also arrived bent, but not nearly as bad as yours.

You know those long white-ish bins that mail carriers often stick the mail in, after they rubber band all the mail for a single address together? Judging by the bend in my Pathfinder, Player's Guide, and D2, they over stuffed the bin, causing my package to bend at the rubber band.

It's fine really, just has a little bend in the spine, still perfectly usable. It's actually worst in the Pathfinder because its spine is the thickest, so it creased more. On the other two it's hardly noticeable.

I never had that problem with my Dragons or Dungeons. It's almost as if the sturdy packaging makes the mail carrier less careful.

And believe me, I WILL be having a lil' chat with my local Post Office. (This sort of thing never used to happen with the USPS, it was always UPS you had to leery of,)

Other than that, I am just grateful that I am buying products from a company that cares enough to even try and fix OTHER guys mistakes (you listening USPS?!?) And it is that attitude that will keep me buying Paizo products as long as they continue to catch my imagination, and I can afford them!

That's almost exactly what I was thinking.

The envelope took a real beating, but that's ok, 'cuz that's what the cardboard mailer is for!
If the major bend had been in the OTHER side of the package, it would have only been a small crease, if anything at all. BUT because it was ON the spine, "SNAP, RIP!"
While my Player's guide that came with it was almost unscathed. (sigh)

Oh well, at least we have a company that cares and tries to take care of us. That's more than you can say about most companies,...anywhere.
If you'll excuse me, I need to go and have a talk with my mailman.

Given that we send out thousands of copies, even if the USPS achieved a 95% on-time rate (which they would consider exceptionally good), every month there will be a couple hundred copies that arrive outside the estimated window. I know it's not a lot of consolation to the folks who draw the short straw that month, but frankly, this is going pretty much as expected. (And it's also why you can choose to upgrade your shipping.)

In case you're wondering how well the USPS does meet its estimates:

The USPS reports:

National on-time performance scores for the delivery of First-Class Mail were at all-time highs in the third quarter of fiscal year 2007 for all three of the categories the Postal Service tracks. Overnight service was 96 percent on-time, up from 95 percent the same period last year. Two-day service was 93 percent on-time and three-day service was 91 percent on-time.

Note that they don't even track other mail rates, but you can expect performance to be much lower in other categories.

96-97% is also about what percentage you can expect from UPS (as well as FedEx and DHL for that matter) for thier on-time deliveries. That is really about thier optimum performance level (which I've discovered after 7 years of working with all three in my job), so the USPS is not that far behind in level of service according to the numbers above.

Is there an estimate on how long Pathfinder takes to ship to Canada? I live in Vancouver, BC and my email states it was shipped on Aug 27, 12 business days ago. Should I expect to get it within 18 business days or will international delivery take longer?

I am used to getting Dungeon late (#150 just arrived last week) but I thought that was due to it being shipped as a magazine. It is my understanding that Pathfinder is being shipped regular mail.

The estimate given for Canada is 7 to 11 business days—one more day than the US—so let's give it 19 business days.

QBert wrote:

Most copies of Pathfinder going to Canada (or pretty much any international destination) actually go by Mail Innovations, a service in which UPS bundles together a bunch of parcels heading to the same destination and hands them over to your local postal service at a mail center near you. (Effectively, UPS delivers it to Canada Post, who brings it to you.)

OK, I stand corrected, I am only seeing the "where's mine?" posts, and while there are quite a few, I'm sure if you add them up they would be only a small percentage of the MASSIVE numbers of books that you all put out in a very short time.

Also like you said, it is very little consolation to the folks who get the short straw that particular month. But it does help put it in perspective.
(Of course, I could just be more lenient now that I have actually seen mine!)

Well,

shipped august 23rd, and I am still waiting...

It seems that for france, it's closer to 36 business days than 9 !!

I am in Canada, and it's now 23 business days, 32 actual days since my Pathfinder was shipped. Still nothing in the mailbox and I am moving next week. I have already updated my address through the spot in "my account" etc. What I would like to know now is - will a replacement be shipped (obviously something has happened in transit - I suspect a gremlin somewhere in the path - probably the same gremlin that made some DVD's I ordered disappear) to my new address or my old?

I will send a replacement for your Pathfinder #1 and Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide with your next Pathfinder (#2) when it ships in early October.

Silettimo,

Given French customs, let's give your first Pathfinder a couple more weeks but if your haven't seen it by the time the next Pathfinder ships, let me know at that point.

Thanks,

Hello, I'm currently living in Japan, and I still haven't recieved my 1st Pathfinder book. It's now Oct.5th and I recieved an email saying it was shiped Aug.23rd. I also just recieved another email, saying Pathfinder #2 has been shipped. I wondering if something went wrong. I understand, concidering the distance, it takes a while. Should I just hang in there and be patient?
My order number is Order #789566.

Just like me (and a few other european people, as you can read in "PF in Europe") here in France (Paris suburban area).

I have not checked my mail today (5th), though, but PF1 was indeed sent on august 23rd and I have received the PF2's shipping mail !
