God even after sitting through all of it. I don't know how a movie can be so bad. I mean Spiderman 1 and 2 rocked. They were awesome. How can 3 suck so bad.
The fight scenes were cool but it wasn't enough. Overacting on par with the first D&D movie. Peter turns Emo for half the movie, black eye liner and hair in front of his face. More cheese than a pizzeria.
Seriously, save your money or give it to charity. Stay the f!*& away from Spiderman 3.

I liked it.
Sure the music was a bit OTT at times, Venom's design and graphics could have done with some more refinement, and there were a few NPCs, sorry, new characters (or one specific blonde female addition) that weren't needed. And the street-stut was definately cringe-worthy, also more time and focus on the last figth would have been appreciated.
Didn't love it, but liked it.

Yeah, I gotta say I enjoyed it too. More emphasis on the villains though and less on Peter Parker's love life. Venom should have been developed more seeing the fan base he has.
Great action sequences though and CGI. I gotta say I laughed hard at a few spots especially the Saturday Night Fever schtick and Bruce Campbell as the french maitre de.
It does seem like Parker spends a lot of time in that graveyard though.

I enjoyed it. Not as good as the 1st two, but definately worth seeing. The theatre was a nightmare, though. Should have waited a couple weeks to see it.

Did not care for it very much, I would watch it again maybe if I could skip the tedious bits. It might be better on DVD in the comfort of my living room and with remote in hand. It started off quite promising, Peter was comfortable and upbeat as Spiderman and I actually thought I may see him beat a baddie or two while making his trademark quips/puns –but NO. :( It descends into Emo-man quickly.
It was far too long (or felt like it); it tried to be too many different kinds of movie and repeated the same old angst crap from the last two films over and over, even showing the same flashback a couple of times.
Don't get me wrong, I love wacky Rami and his films, I'm a big Spidey and comics fan -but it's (the anxiety and over dramatics/close ups of Maguire and Dunst) that becomes just too much in the end and the audience knows what’s bound to happen anyway.
Why put us through it? Our bottoms are aching on the rock hard cinema seats and only breath taking action sequences will alleviate the pain! It could do with an edit.
The fight scenes were not that great for me and those I was with. The CGI effects did that blurry thing (like in every other movie these days) causing the action to look a mess: too fast and confusing to the eye.
There was just too much going on in this film for it's own good.
The way the symbiote was introduced was stupid -what happened to the sub plot/ground work layed out in the previous films concerning the astronaught- what a waste?! Stupid, cheesy and rushed.
There's a lot of characters that deserve a full story arc and they don't really get it. Venom should have been the plot of Spiderman 4 instead -now we have 'Carnage' already waiting in the wings, the Lizard's alterego was introduced in Spiderman 2 and gets more screentime in this movie so the scaly one will no doubt pop up in the next film and Doctor Octopus is still on the loose (says a headline on a newspaper hanging in Jonas office) SLOW DOWN!.
Nice to see Bruce Campbell!
Weird how big Toby Maguire’s double chin is?
Liked Peters ‘Hitler hair-do’ –quite 90’s Britpop.
Venom was cool but please stop revealing Eddie Brock’s face all the time –also why does Spidey always lose his mask? The Goblin was rubbish, Sandy was smashing!
Music did nothing for me, take it Elfman didn’t do it?
Despite all it’s faults at least its not ‘X-men 3 bad’.

I'm seeing it next week, although I know that I'll have the same problem with it that I had with the first two: "My life is so hard! I don't know how to balance my gorgeous girlfriend with my badass powers...what shall I do?"
But for all that, the first two were worth seeing once and I have no doubt that I'll feel the same about this one.
P.S. R-type: what didn't you like about X3? The only real problem I had with it was the 'mutant power levels' that the one goth mutant girl could sense. I'm sorry, I thought I was watching a movie but clearly I'm watching a video game.

By and large I agree with you. But I'm not really the target audience (I'm 23), and the 14-year olds behind me in the theater seemed to like it. One of them uttered: "It was the best movie I have ever seen!", and the movie was really tailored to them.
Although I liked S1 & S2, I personally prefer more story and realism, so I guess the next big superhero movie will be "The Dark Knight" as far as I am concerned...

Oh, and I audibly groaned when we got to the inevitable Stan Lee 'Cameo' scene. The first few appearances were bearable, but now the term 'Cameo' can hardly apply. Soon it'll just be the "Stan Lee and SuperFriends" movie.
I'd much rather see homage paid to Stan Lee than to see Joe Quesada's smirking visage, with the turning wheels of "lets deconstruct superheros to make them more relevant by having them act like petty, selfish politicos" playing behind his eyes.
Sorry . . . just slipped out.

Well, it worked for The Authority. So rather than come up with something unique and (possibly) unpopular, let's follow a proven formula until we have horse juice.

Wow, I am amazed that so many people did not like the movie. I really enjoyed it. It seems to me that all the complaints are over really minor things. It is should be obvious to everybody that the marvel movies are more akin to the Ultimate universe than the classic marvel books. In ultimate Spiderman, peter and MJ are 16, but so much of the story reflects the ultimate books. If you have read spider man since the late 60's then you will realize that the driving plot in the book is not fighting supervillians but teenage angst. The ultimate books reflect this very well. Spiderman has always been a bit of a soap opera. In high school, peter had the hots for Gwen Stacy, had to deal with flash Thompson hassling him, His best friend Harry Osborne dealing with his own problems with his father and everybody thinking he might kill himself. To me, the movies keep that aspect.
As for the alleged "emo" peter. I do not really know what this emo crap is. Obviously the symbiote was influencing peter to act not just aggressive but cocky as well. Like someone who is extremely narcissistic, and arrogant.
I am not sure what it is everybody felt the movie lacked. It is not going to be the comic book exactly. Even if the Raimi boys do it. I am just excited to see a live action version of the books after reading it for 35 years and seeing so many bad cartoons. I really liked the movie a lot.

Ah, the Authority ... great series. The spin-off of A Man Called Kev was also quite good.
But I digress. I did enjoy Spiderman 3, though it was most definitely the weakest of the three films.

I enjoyed the movie. It could have been better, but it was alright. I thought they might have more problems with the whole multiple villains angle, but they seemed to make it work.
I agree that Peter tends to lose the mask alot, but at least this time they didn't repeat that godawful scene from S2 where the entire subway car full of people see his face but all of them promise not to tell anybody.

Acting, directing and script are minor things? What are the major?
When Osborn is dying and he's all "Peter your my best friend." Him, Peter and MJ are all crying. That scene had half the theatre laughing, it was so pathetic.
The whole feed me cookies woman (not actual line in movie) scene. Please.
The only thing the movie had going for it was the special effects and fight scenes.

Well, guess i will see it this week if only to find out what part our favorite evil dead actor plays in it; he ties all the movies together for me and is one of the most important parts of the film series. And hey, there was nothing wrong with Ghostrider; that movie was pretty good. Spiderman 3 has to be better than Mystery Men; and I still kinda liked that; liked Meteor Man also, but hey, what can I say, am a superhero junky; i like the genre.

I did not like it.
Everybody was crying. Villains don't cry. Lex Luthor would never cry! Spider man cried like 5 times in the movie.
The effects were awesome but the fights were played out like a video game. Didn't like em.
The story was too big and seemed rushed. The acting from the two mains (Peter and Mary) sucked for the most part. I think they are tired of the characters, and to me at least, it showed.
The few stand outs were J. Jonah Jameson..hilarious as always...Bruce Campbell (Spelling??)...and the scene with the EMO Peter was hilarious..best part of the film by far.
I wouldn't watch it again. Once was plenty.

Any self-respecting Spider-Man or comic book fan shouldn't like this movie. I don't. And neither should you.
Of course, what was I thinking. If you, the great Destro Fett, didn't like it, then naturally no one else should. Allow me to surrender my right to have an opinion of my own.

I enjoyed Ghost Rider, a lot.
I hope to see Spidey 3 tomorrow. a couple of friends saw it and enjyoed it.
Sorry. I should not have threadcrapped on Ghostrider, even if I hated it.
Back on topic: I don't plan to see Spidey 3 though...the superhero franchises are all taking a turn for the worse if you ask me. It makes me sad.

I rather enjoyed the movie. It was not the BEST THING EVAR, but i didn't expect it to be, honestly. The worst thing was that it was too long for its own good.
Cutting out sandman and making the New Goblin both Venoms teamup and later Spidermans ally would have neatly avoided a few bumpy plot-sequences, and removed the need for an extra villain intro and buildup, and figured more neatly with the whole relationship between him and Peter.
Rather liked the falling out between him and Mary Jane, though... lets face it, both richly deserved what they got.

It's been a loooong time since I kept up with Spider-Man (_Amazing_, _Spectacular_), but I seem to remember the events in this last film took several years to arc through...then again, when I was a kid, a year was a lifetime. Anyway, that would help to explain the choppiness. Nonetheless, I still liked the movie.
The Black Bard |
I'm probably the biggest Venom fan in this hemisphere; every comic, lots of action figures, and more than a fair share of T-Shirts, including the black one with the white spider, which they are selling again now that the movie came out, but mine I got from a comic shop twelve years ago.
So regarding the movie that finally portrayed my second favorite comic character? (After the Transformers, collectively.)
I was entertained. I felt like I hadn't wasted my money, and had received suitable entertainment for my dollar and time.
But that's about all I felt. Spiderman 3 just didn't feel like as good of a movie as the first two. It felt like a "comic book movie" as opposed to a "movie about a guy who happens to come from a comic book". I realize that villains like Sandman and Venom are just harder on the "I can buy this, I suppose" threshold. Goblin and Doc Ock were technological accidents that conformed to our current popular-culture understanding of technology. If what happened to them popped up on the news in real life, we'd all likely go "Wow! Thats incredible! I wonder blah blah something blah." But if something similar to Sandman or Venom showed up on the news, the response would be more like "Bull, somebody's pulling our leg." It's a heavier load to carry with the same demand of style.
As for me, I'm mostly irked they neutered most chances of a last ditch fix-the-mistakes fourth movie by killing off the most interesting supporting character and the most anticipated villian. (Although with alien symbiotes, you never can tell. Technically Doc Conners still has a chunk of it. Maybe it'll pull a Guyver and regen Brock from scratch.)
So, in summary, I enjoyed it, but wasn't amazed or desperate to see it a second time. Now I'll wait for Shrek 3, for fun and humor, Pirates 3, for win and awesome, and then down the line for my hope against hopes, the easy formula of giant robots beating the crap out of each other for my entertainment, Transformers.

I got exactly what I expected to from a comic book movie - two hours of mindless amusement. Going into one of these things wanting more is just begging for disappointment. The one thing I might have changed is to take out Venom. Not that I have anything against the guy, but the movie felt like it had one villain too many, as if Venom was merely included to fulfill some kind of obligation. Also, I think the whole "redemption" theme would have had more meaning if Peter's victory were the result of his inner strength rather than tearing off the symbiote. We could have easily seen Spidey getting full of himself without the black suit, which was heavy-handed symbolism.
I think it's worth seeing, and worth seeing on the big screen for the effects. You'll probably prefer the first two, however.

I saw it Friday & enjoyed it. I agree with most of the posts that it wasn't has good as 1 or 2 but I still found it highly entertaining, which is really all I ask for in a movie.

FYI : Venom was Topher Grace. He and I both agree that we could have done without the open face with venom teeth shots! MY disappointment: "We'll eat your brain Parker!" was NEVER uttered.

I liked it. To me, I felt like it captured the feel of the classic SPidey comics of the 70's-80's where Peter's problems were at the heart of the story and the costumed villains Spidey faced off with were just the icing on the cake, where the conflicts between those villains ran into each other leading to these multi-villain confrontations. I thought it evoked the Lee/Romita, Conway/Andru, and Michelinie/McFarlane years of the comics very nicely. I also thought the Saturday Night Fever homage was a clever way of showing the changes wrought in Peter's personaility by the symbiote. Was the movie-perfect? No. The pacing/editing was a bit off, and there were a few too many plot-necessary coincidences, but overall I enjouyed the movie a lot.

Ya know...
Now I gotta eat my own words...
I really liked this movie a alot.
I thought it was a great wrap-up of the trilogy, with really interesting character developments across the boards. The action was awesome.
I love the actor that played Sandman...he was so human, it made me sad. Tobey was really good as spiderman cracked out on Venom and ego. A well told story all around.
I thought I was gonna hate this, and I ended up really really enjoying it. There were only a couple of scenes I thought sucked, the rest of the movie more than made up for them.

At Starks peak the official phones Stark and feeds him the code activiation word. Stark hands over all his Tech and China builds an army of Ironmen and marches into Taiwan.
Stark commits suicide in a bomb explosion in his lab...The FBI investigate and find Stark was a Traitor.

I am awfully sick of the "villains redeem themselves" trend in the Spider-Man movies. Norman kind of did it in the last few seconds of his life, asking that his actions be hidden from his son; then Ock did it by DROWNING FUSION (I won't even start to rant on that); then in one film both Sandman and Harry redeem themselves? Ugh.
I could have done without Harry going hero. Spidey's victory should have been 100% Spidey.
Venom was okay. His lack of duality made me frown. Every time he said "I," I thought to myself: "he means we."
Thomas Haden Church will be Lowell from Wings for the rest of his life, for me. There is no part he can play - no matter how hostile or tragic, where I won't giggle and think of him sticking a screwdriver into a light socket over and over.
And finally, I'd like to state that I can happily live the rest of my life without ever hearing Kirsten Dunst sing another note. Her performance scenes were absolutely ear-grating, as well as mind-numbingly boring.
I loved the fights, though. Do you all really think Venom is gone for good? We didn't see a corpse, right? The scene ended very abruptly, and I'd assumed he'd pretty much vanished in a burst of fire. I truly hope he's not gone, because there is nothing I want to see LESS in a Spider-Man film than Carnage, who would be on deck next.

I don't like Kirtsen Dunst. Or Tobey Maguire. Or this movie. One thing worse than a long movie is a long predictable movie.

I liked it. I've been a spidy fan for 35 years, and I thought they did a good job. It doesn't follow the original comics very closely, but I think it's "close enough" in order to appeal to a wider audience. Any long-time fan could nit-pick it to pieces, but as a movie it was very fun to watch. My only big complaint would be that they tried to pack too much into one film. "Spidey vs Venon" could be a film all by itself. "Spidey vs. Sandman" could be a film all by itself. The whole spidey/gwen/may-jane/green goblin/son of green goblin thing could be several movies. Rolling all this into one film was a little nuts, and parts seemed a little rushed, but overall it comes off remarkably well. 'Nuff said.
