You will probably find that it is not terribly unusual, sad to say. I had a philosophy professor who went on at length about: his marriages, the fact that he was a pilot, that the interior design of cars bothered him and various other subjects but nearly nothing about philosophy. I used to refer to him as "the dark side of tenure." These types of positions provide fertile ground for people like your professor.

I had a commercial graphics class, where on the first day, the professor spent the entire class period going over his accomplishments in the advertising industry, and how accredited he is as an instructor. After this first class, he would only show up to class for about 10 minutes each day, take a head count, and leave. His Lab Assistant was the one we had to go to if we had questions. He wasn't even there for quizzes and tests. What killed me even more, was that some of the students in the class had him for a previous class, and would go at length about how great of a teacher he is(without sarcasm)! I think I made the comment once in class about how it must be nice to get a College Professor's salary and only show up for 10 minutes a day. I dropped the class after a few weeks.

Seriously, in these days of FB, that'd be just the kind of thing that would happen. True story: a friend of ours (wife of my wife's partner at work) has someone post this on her FB: "Married to Bob Robertson? But Judy told me yesterday that you have a boyfriend!" Non-plussed, she posted back, I do, he's my husband. But in another marriage, can't you see that being the ignition for one nasty explosion?

Yes, yes they do.

So far, Chrome seems to always remember posts when something goes wrong.

RANT: I give you a study sheet at the end the previous exam period, so you have it for the entire length of the exam period (many weeks). At the end of the exam period, student groups prepare and present reviews over separate units. Then, I go to Stakbucks to hold a final review session where you can ask the prof anything and I stay there as long as students want me to. And you still can't pass a freakin' exam over the items listed in that six page review sheet? The state should give me a license to use your textbook to beat your head in.

Yesterday SUCKED!!

Woke up, no hot water for shower. Wanted to go back to bed, went into work anyway. Worked through the hell that is Saturday at my call center. Went home for lunch. Only to find that my cell provider Verizon had screwed the pooch in the most major way.

When I ordered by new super shiny Droid Eris phone (which I wish I could surgically graft to myself... I love it that much), their stupid BS website created a third line on a third contract when all I wanted was to upgrade my EXISTING phone to the Droid Eris and push my contract for that line out 2 years.

I IMMEDIATELY emailed in response to my order confirmation asking if I NEEDED a third phone number, and was told to just go through standard activation and it would clear itself up. It didn't, and so I have three lines with three contracts and I'm basically hosed.

I call Verizon support, and I'm told that to FIX it, they'd need to:

Ship me a new phone.
Have me return said phone.
Cancel the third line.
Generate a NEW number.

But, they said, if I go to a store they can fix it without any of that BS. So I do. And after explaining my situation (with CHARTS AND GRAPHS) three times, I get the point across.

They:

Take my phone
Put it back in their inventory virtually.
Credit me the cost of the phone.
Give it back to me on the line for the contract I wanted to upgrade IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Change the number on that line.
Cancel the third line.
Charge me for the phone.

This is to result in a zero-balance transaction. Credit X amount, Charge X amount. But the credit NEVER HIT MY ACCOUNT and now I have overdraft fees as I was running the budget a bit tighter than I'd like.

So I call Verizon and I'm told that since the transactions in question took place at a store, they can't do JACK for me on the phone. I need to go BACK to the store.

So, I return to work. Slog through the rest of my crap day. Go directly to the Verizon store where this started. Explain my situation (with CHARTS AND GRAPHS) FIVE!!! times, and finally get the point across.

They find the receipts, confirm that I didn't IMAGINE them saying I'd be credited, and tell me that there's... NOTHING THEY CAN DO AT THE STORE AND THAT I NEED TO CONTACT FINANCIAL SERVICES.... OH, AND THEY'RE CLOSED ON WEEKENDS, CALL MONDAY!!!!!!!One one eleventy one one!

Get home and launch into full outright morbid/depression, rather than picking up the Council of Thieves adventure both I and my wife wanted to.

*sigh*

And I don't expect this saga to be over just by me calling finserv.

Silver Crusade

Cell phone headaches already get resolved better in person than over the phone, in my experience. I've had my share. I hope it all works out, Mikhaila.

*noddles* Thank you. I ordered online, and I think that was my first mistake.

I appreciate the kind words, very greatly.

Dark Archive

The saga continues...

After getting up Gorram Bloody Early because I couldn't sleep with the Sword of Damocles going on, I call Verizon financial services.

I explain my situation with my account and charges, and the person tells me that "That's going to be credited to your verizon bill, not to your bank."

I nearly pitched my phone, but I was on headset so I didn't. Instead, I calmly asked for a supervisor.

Explained AGAIN. And was told that whatever happens at a Verizon store STAYS AT A VERIZON STORE. The financial arm of the company couldn't do SQUAT for me. They told me to go back to the store and/or talk to my bank.

And this is all my fault for wanting a new phone that did stuff. Razzafrackin bloody flufftards.

Sovereign Court

It could be worse... you could have an AT&T phone!

There's a reason that even in the midst of all this sheer bullspit that I haven't threatened to cancel. The strongest language I've used as a veiled threat is "I'd like to CONTINUE loving Verizon"

...

And I've had nothing but awesome experiences with their customer service prior to this.

...

*sigh*

I tend to try and avoid personal details on the site. I don't imagine anyone much cares about my personal life, not matter how awesome my wife and kids are, so I don't post much about said things.

However, here, in the holiday season, I'm pretty upset about something and I just want to get it off my chest.

My wife had some disputes with her former employer, and she no longer works for him. Its a long story that involved one person at her work firing her, but somehow not being able to fire her, but then her being threatened to come back to work because she "misundersood" her firing, etc.

My wife's immediate boss is the guy that apparently didn't have the authority to fire her (huh?), but her "big boss" is one of the owners of the company, that has, in the past, called her to cook Thanksgiving dinner when his wife was sick, come over on Christmas day to show his son how to use his iPod, and buy him beer because he didn't want to leave the office to get it himself, just as a sampling of some of his ideas of appropriate tasks for someone that works in IT.

He's also a "prominent" figure in our church, and gives lots of money to the church often. He hangs out with the crowd and watches sporting events and gets plastered with them on the weekends. He's a great guy to anybody that doesn't work for him.

So, flash forward to my wife's departure. Not only does he hire a friend of ours, a friend whose kids we treated like our own when they were all in school together, but apparently, despite the fact that we never really wanted anyone to take any sides over this, we are now the pariahs in this situation.

We try to say hi to people that still work for him, and to our friends, the people that we used to do favors for all the time, and whose kids we baby sat and gave rides to school, etc. And we now, literally, get snubbed by them.

I'm so upset by this. I thought that years of socializing with people at school functions and because our kids were friends would at least warrant the benefit of the doubt, or at the very least, a certain degree of detached neutrality. But no, apparently drinking buddies that can take you to sporting events and tailgate parties trump any kind of actual display of friendship like treating your kids as if they were your own.

We went out of our way not to really say anything bad about my wife's former boss to anyone in the community, just saying there was a dispute and she isn't working there anymore, and apparently, we hold ourselves to a higher standard than her former boss does.

I know in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter, but it really bugs me that because he throws money around and socializes that my wife's former boss is considered "better" than we are. It really makes me want to give up on doing any kind of favors for anyone, ever, even though I know that doesn't fix anything.

A slight attempt at humor and an observation on life:

The organs of the body were having a meeting, trying to decide who was
In charge. Each organ took a turn to speak up:

Brain......... I should be in charge because I run all body functions.
Blood........ I should be in charge because I circulate oxygen for the brain.
Stomach... I should be in charge because I process food to the brain.
Legs......... I should be in charge because I take the brain where it Wants to go.
Eyes......... I should be in charge because I let the brain see where it's going.
A~!#*+&.....I should be in charge because I get rid of your waste.

All the other parts laughed so hard and this made the a@@@&%~ very mad.
To prove his point, the a!&!!&+ immediately slammed tightly closed and
Stayed that way for 6 days, refusing to rid the body of any waste whatsoever.

Day 1 - Brain got a terrible headache and cried out for relief
Day 2 - Stomach got bloated and began to ache terribly
Day 3 - Legs got cramps and became unstable
Day 4 - Eyes became watery and vision became blurred
Day 5 - Blood became toxic and poisoned the body
Day 6 -The other organs agreed to let the a!$*$#~ be in charge.

*MORAL OF THE STORY: NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE, OR HOW IMPORTANT YOU THINK
YOU ARE, YOU WILL FIND THAT IT IS ALWAYS THE A~%%@$& THAT IS IN
CHARGE.*

Right now, I'm attending the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. I will not be returning next year. Why?

BECAUSE EVERYTHING'S F!$%ING BUSTED, THAT'S WHY

I spent four years AFTER high school saving my hard-earned money and getting the chops to get INTO this place. It's almost eleven hundred miles away from my girlfriend, my job, and my home, and it's costing me and mine $35,000 per year OUT OF POCKET for me to attend. With $11,700 of that being room and board, you'd think that the accommodations would be a little nicer. But no.

Here are a few examples of the freshman compound:

1 2 3 4 5 6

The cause of the water seeping through the ground was revealed to be (two weeks later) a cracked water main, and so all of the water for the entire complex was shut off for the entire day. Not to mention that the hot water frequently decides to take a vacation for several days at a time. Not worth twelve hundred bucks for what amounts to eight months.

Now, I could deal with that fine if the place was a) cheaper, and b) ON CAMPUS. That's right, the dorm complex is nearly two miles from the majority of the foundation studies and liberal arts buildings. To get there, you have to take the school-provided bus system, which is about as reliable as the Italian judicial system. Buses are routinely late, and frequently, the drivers refuse to let students on the bus. The buses are overcrowded to the point of looking like gypsy wagons, and never reach their destinations on time.

To top it all off, the independent contractor that runs the bus system changed the schedule a week ago, and neglected to tell anyone until complaints were filed about buses not showing up on time, or in many cases, at all. The posted schedule was changed TODAY, a week later.

And what kind of cafeteria establishment charges eight dollars for a single meal credit?

In short, I am not returning to SCAD due to the fact that though the professors (with the exception of one) have been stellar, the entire endeavor is like throwing money into a black hole: we pay and pay, but neither the professor, nor the staff, nor the students see a single dime. Where does the money go? I don't give a f&@& anymore.

As of now, I've submitted my application to Syracuse University (as well as the State University of Syracuse, my father's alma mater), and am waiting to hear their response. This place is just too much to bother with.

Looks like China, just a little tidier.

Anyway. What good is a campus without a little razorwire?

I have reached a conclusion: the fat f*!@s who work at the campus sandwich shop have it out for me. Not that they're trying to kill me or anything, but this is a place I go almost EVERY G*++#%N DAY, and EVERY G+~~@~N DAY, they f&#+ up my sandwich.

I swear, it's not that hard. All I f**&ing want is a f*@!ing tuna fish sandwich. Not half of one. Nothing on it. It's not enough that you're charging me eight bucks a pop, you have to give me half a sandwich, then deny I ordered a whole one, or put mayonnaise on it. F~@! MAYONNAISE.

It's the same people, too. You come to recognize your regular customers when you work in the service industry. I would know--I can have people's orders already rung up at the station before they even buy anything. One guy always buys TWO packs of Sonoma Lights, another guy always buys a 12-pack of Coors Lite and five dollars of gasoline, etc.

I have been buying food at this place almost every day since f~&$ing SEPTEMBER. I've probably bought over a hundred sandwiches there, and not ONCE did they get it right the first time. I always have to call them on it. Sometimes they admit the mistake, but usually, it's on me. "Nuh-uh, you ordered half a sandwich. Why didn't you tell me that in the first place? I'm a f!%&ing glorified lunch lady with a negative IQ."

The worst part is, this is the only place to get food after five in the afternoon. The cafeteria closes at five, while I'm still on the bus getting back from my 2:00-4:30 class, and the closest grocery store is a mile away, not to mention in one of the s&~&tier neighborhoods in Savannah. They've got us over a barrel, selling us poorly-made sandwiches for between five and ten dollars a pop. The least they could do is NOT F#~! UP.

Ok usually I'm the DM and my players will constantly never play good charactsers if given the choice. That became annoying after awhile dming a bunch of selfish in it for themselves pcs so I had to put in a lot of no retreat encounters to compensate. (If I didn't do the no retreat thing when things got bad they would abandon one or the other to be killed, and annoying arguments would ensue). And now I'm a player and guess what I'm the only good character. It's getting annoying being the wet blanket. I'm constantly don't dare steal from that beggar. You kill that city guard and I kill you. Stop coming up with ideas that involve the death of innocents, don't cast that fireball in the middle of a marketplace. I had some people who where like this.

For them it stemmed from the fact that they couldn't see past the 'easy money' and didn't want to get involved because they couldn't see the payout. They also had a weird association of good with gullible, stupid or foolish.

They wouldn't see the evil in crimes against mainly adult males (stealing, assault or murder) but didn't see the characters as evil because the wouldn't put up with rape, tyrants (they didn't like being told what to do), violence against woman, children, etc.
They appeared to have impulse control issues (imagine how many more criminals there would be today if there was no real forensics, no interpol, no phones, etc).

As an aside, I find that alot of players who act this way have trouble taking the imaginary world & characters real. They have trouble with empathy towards the NPCs and don't want to invest the time and energy trying.

Unfortunately I eventually had to get discontinue GMing for them as they didn't see any need to change and I didn't want to play 'Crime Spree, The Game'.

I work in a call center. It is a busy, busy place, and all the staff is expected to pitch in and answer all types of incoming calls (it's a 911/Medical Transport company.)

Why am I constantly on the phone with any and all sundry people (from the crazy whispering old dude ALREADY IN THE HOSPITAL calling 911 to the irritated RN at the ER who wants to know why ole Mz. Daisy has to PAY for her transportation!!!) while my coworkers chat, read, do needlepoint, or other arts and crafts activities?

Where are the supervisors, you may ask...

That's an excellent question, now, let me just check the schedule....and.....wow, where'd he go? Was that a cloud of smoke from behind him he moved so fast? Really?

In fact, this place is so bad off, when I (or another of the few hard working folks) take the day off, all I hear is about how bad it was, how busy everyone was, and why did I have to be off?

If I'm that valuable, why are you not paying me what I'm worth!?!?!?!

I really need to move out of my mother's house. I'm almost twenty-four years old, and I'm done. Unfortunately, my mother has suddenly decided that she needs to make up for a lifetime of bad parenting by NOT LETTING ME LEAVE. Well my supervisor was off work for cosmetic surgery for 1 1/2 weeks. She was getting a breast enhancement surgery. I filled in for her while she was away.

She got back and asked others how I did. They said I did very well. I covered everything, didn't abuse power and did a decent job training the new staff member that came in while balancing everything else. Well I'm kind of pissed about the way she has been treating me since she got back. She didn't seem pleased that I wasn't destroyed by her work load (we had both previously competed for the position she is currently in).

She has been nit picking the job I did but she has now settled on how I didn't keep up with my tasks.

I'm so sorry that I couldn't keep up with my job requirements while doing your full time job requirements, helping set up new computers, answering phone calls, addressing computer errors (which just seemed to crop up suddenly), trying to address our auto phone system errors and training new staff.

This is a Facebook rant. Here goes...

If I don't know you and you have 1000+ "friends", don't frickin get in touch! I don't give a s!&# about you, and I'm not interested in adding to the number of your "friends". I don't want you knowing stuff about me, anyway!
(The exception here is Ed H - whom I hope to meet at Paizocon and have conversed with for a while - and Paizo staff!)

I'm not frickin interested in Mafia Wars, Cafe Farm, or any of the other time-wasting games, or causes either, so please don't invite me! Thank you!

A couple of months ago, one of my sister's primary school friends wanted to add me, so I agreed. However, she seems to have not sent me a message in that time. So I think it's time to say bye bye. Another of my sister's primary school friends wanted to add me over the weekend. Seriously, I wasn't interested in knowing them then, so why the heck would I be interested now?
Would it be rude to say something like "Although you were my sister's friend, I have zero interest in staying in touch with people from that area (except for my sister's best friend). I wish you the best."

Rant over.

My five person saturday based group is driving me to distraction. More accurately two members of the group are. Ofcause, it doesn't help that said people are the ST and the lead character.

First of all, a little background. Our group has been having major issues for a while, so we decided to change the structure of the group, so that one player would always be the driving force behind the group. This system does seem to have worked fairly well, for during the game much of the bickering and stagnation that occured in earlier games has evaperated.

The problem, i think, is that we are playing exalted, a game that neither the ST nor the lead player actually understand. Exalted is a game where starting characters are certainly very powerful, but are still threatened to a degree by such simple things and animals and mortals. The threat from normal people and wolves arn't that great, but well armed troops and monsterous animals can kill starting level characters.

There is a narrative curve, along which characters develope from local heroes who beat up bandit kings, and raid the tombs of their previous incarnations to the god-kings of creation, who go to war in magitech mecha, with magic lazer cannons and armies numbered in the millions.

But neither of the ST or the lead player get this. Neither of them understand the system or setting, so we get a position where our first meaningful combat as a group was damned near a TPK, as we had to fight a second cicle demon. Each second circle demon is a unique and powerful enemy. We survived due to a combination of factor including exceptional luck, unintentional cheating on the part of one player, the ST not using the demons resources in anyway realitically or effectively, and the fact that my self and one other player had entirely changed our normal play style to make characters that could stand up to almost anything thrown at us(we knew from sad experience that the ST does not understand the system, so we took a better safe than sorry approach and made the ludicrously spiked character).
This, encounter, that left every character in the group either dead, or one turn from it, was then described as 'a good challange' by our fearless leader.

The only player who followed the spirit of the character creation guidelines ended up dead in a single blow, and then got b*%%&ed at by the lead player for over an hour.

Which brings me on to the bullying. Our lead player has, since the start of the game been picking relentlessly on the player who's character died, to the point where I can only call it bullying. I have had to retrain myself from doing violance to the lead player on several occations now, but both the two 'good players' have said they don't want to cause an issue by doing something about it.

I love playing with chris and claire(the good players), but the other two are making my saturday game a nightmare. Both chris and claire are nice people but they don't like conflict, so they are unwilling to kick out both the two problem players. So basically... I don't know what to do at this point. I can't leave my friends to deal with the issue alone, and it isn't my place to kick the problem players out.

ZN, I suggest taking your two good players and leaving for a time, or permanently.

Ugh...what is it about Exalted that brings out the worst in people...

I agree with Turin. It's time to go. Exalted is a game you need to know inside and out and backwards and forwards before playing, it's not for everyone due to the power level/sandbox issues.

It is unfortunately not my call to make. If I leave, I leave alone, and leave chris and claire with their only regular game being ruined.

I know what you mean Freehold. Exalted is an amazing game, but if you don't understand it(not claiming i do, just that i think i get it better than the ST and the Lead Player) the game is horrible.

I can't claim that this is in no way my fault. I have fairly serious personality clashs with both the ST and lead player, but i have offered time and again to quit to make things easier on chris and claire, and always been told no. I try not to cause a problem, but its pretty hard to dodge.
