The Pathfinder Player Core presents a new entry point to Pathfinder Second Edition, with everything a player needs to learn how to play the game! Choose from eight ancestries, eight complete character classes, and hundreds of feats and spells to make unique characters ready for deadly adventures in a world beset by magic and evil! This 464-page hardcover tome is the definitive rules resource for all Pathfinder Second Edition players!

Pathfinder Player Core is the first core rulebook for the fully remastered Pathfinder Second Edition RPG! These rules are compatible with previous Pathfinder Second Edition rulebooks, incorporating comprehensive errata and rules updates and some of the best additions from later books into new, easier-to-access volumes with new presentations inspired by years of player feedback. Along with the GM Core, Monster Core, and Player Core 2, these books provide a new foundation for the future of tabletop gaming!

The pocket edition presents the same contents as the standard edition in a smaller sized softcover for a lower price and better portability.

Pathfinder Player Core includes:

  • Easier to Learn! We’ve taken feedback from the Beginner Box and the Core Rulebook and made this new entry into the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game easier to navigate and get right into the fun.
  • Complete character creation rules, walking you through building a character by selecting your Ancestry, Background, and Class, with a focus on the bard, cleric, druid, fighter, ranger, rogue, witch, and wizard! Core ancestry options include human, dwarf, elf, gnome, goblin, halfling, leshy, and orc!
  • A mountain of options allowing you to customize your character including versatile heritages, like the changeling and nephilim, skills and feats, and hundreds of spells (including dozens of new ones), ensuring that the character you build represents your hero not just in story, but in rules as well!
  • Everything you need to know to start playing, from advice on how to explore the world to tips on surviving deadly combats with terrifying foes.
  • A primer on the world of Lost Omens so that your character can be a part of an exciting and diverse world!
  • Rules and tools to advance your character through play, taking them from a fresh-faced adventurer ready to take on the world to a veteran hero, wielding powerful magic that can reshape reality!
  • Fully integrated errata from the first 4 years of Pathfinder Second Edition, including revisions to the witch, expanded options for every character class, streamlined spells, new equipment, and more!
  • This is the first Pathfinder product published under the new Open RPG Creative (ORC) license, giving players and Game Masters even more freedom for making their own creations based on Pathfinder Second Edition.

Yay for pocket editions. Now can you please give me back the vision I had twenty years ago? :P

Will there be a subscription service for the pocket editions? Would very much like a pdf and those rather than the larger ones!

Possibly, but we don’t have an answer for you yet. :)

Why, I wonder, is the pocket release so far from the initial release?

It is an intentional change. All Pocket Editions will now release 90 days after the hardcover, which is more in line with the publishing industry.

Interesting!

I've never heard of this?

We first announced it in our Remaster Blog:

"Will the new Pathfinder Second Edition Remaster books have Pocket Editions?

Yes. Pocket editions of the new books will appear roughly three months following the hardcover releases."

At least it is predictable now.

Hard pass then. Not buying until errata is included.

more than likely to make more money as the hardcovers are more expensive, they want people to buy the more expensive version in order to make as much money as possible before releasing a cheaper version.

Not *too* cynical, are you?

It doesn't matter too much, I usually get the pocket edition a month or so after I get the hardcover any way.

Eeh, the sales advantage is probably a factor, but doesn't seem a nefarious one to me. The people who were only going to buy a pocket edition still get to buy it; and the company's been completely transparent about this change, so customers can make their own decision about whether to buy the hardcover or wait. If other companies in the industry do the same with their versions (I'm not well traveled, but I'll trust Aaron's word) then normalizing to that convention seems fine.

As a merchandiser, the typical rotation for bestsellers is the Hardcover coming out first, than a trade paperback coming around 6 months later, depending on continuing sales, then if the sales of the book is slumping but is enough for consideration, the paperback version comes about a year later. Sometimes as soon as 6 months if they skip having the trade paperback.

Seeing the same titles come up again and again in different formats gets to me sometimes, seeing some books go through the process in an accelerated time scale, getting the hardcover and paperback within two months sometimes, but that gets a bit extreme with the release schedule.

Will there be sketch covers for the pocket editions?

:(

Do we have an idea on when the errata will be incorporated into any version of this? I know the obvious answer is "in subsequent print runs," but that is nebulously vague. I would buy a second copy, but only if it incapsulates those changes.

They only know the date of reprints when they sell out, as that's when they do those. So hard to answer until that book sells out.

So, are there any plans to offer hand bound digest sized books (ala MÖRK BORG, Vast Grimm, Into the Odd, CY_BORG, etc.. physical copies)?

I am kinda new the the Pathfinder community, Hi!

I was just gonna ask why is the pocket edition unavailable? My local tabletop game store doesn't carry it so I figured I would try to buy it directly.

Does this happen often and we just have to wait or is there some issue?

Thanks in advanced!

I haven't seen a specific reason, but usually it's because the particular item has sold out from the warehouse and reprints have not yet arrived. Since this is part of the remaster I'm sure there will be a new shipment in the near future, but sadly with the god of prophecy dead, hard to say when they'll arrive more specifically. (as to frequency, I haven't seen it before on this particular product, but it's a thing that occurs sometimes.) Welcome!

Thanks for taking the time to respond. These pocket editions seem really convenient to have at the table so I will just wait to get one.
