Monstrous

5/5

Follows Bestiary 1. A lot of fun new creatures.

Great addition to 2E

5/5

Bestiary 2 extends the range of Bestiary one critters and adds whole new types creatures. Well worth the money.

I particularly enjoyed all the interesting variants of elementals, from Ember Foxes to Icicle Snakes: so much more than the old small, medium, large elementals of old. This creativeness has been carried throughout.

As with Bestiary 1, great creature backgrounds, treasure notes, and wonderfully varied unique abilities.

Definitely looking forward to more Bestiaries!

Fantastic

5/5

Utterly fantastic. Loved the sidebars, the artwork, and the mechanics. It has a ton of monsters that were in Pathfinder 1st Edition making the book great for converting adventures to 2nd Edition, along with new monsters and lore. I especially love the fey creatures and animals.

Look at those beautiful linnorms! *-*

The "main" celestials and fiends are all back now!

Silver Crusade

Yeeeeee

I just want to flip trough this book so much!

The amount of lore in it seems to surpass any 1E bestiary, and that added to the beautiful quality of the art design and the illustrations. It's a "breathtaking" book.

Can't wait for New Order to bring it in portuguese to Brazil. It might take some time, of course, but it's more them worth.

I wonder if bestiary 2 will have any new simple templates? There doesn’t seem to be a way to recreate the old fiendish and celestial creatures that were quite commonly used in published content

It doesn't.

Then again, recreating them is super simple, bump them up a level, give them some resistances and a smite ability, you're done.

Is the a low level smite ability that currently exists?

In the Gamemastery Guide at the end of the monster creation rules it has Trait Abilities, including Fiend and Celestial that you could tack on a creature to imitate fiendish or celestial creatures from 1e. Maybe throw the elite template on there too to get the full +1 level adjustment.

I really liked the fact that the same artist was chosen to illustrate the true dragons. Not only because I really love Miguel Regodón, but also because of the feel of continuity. Although they are all dragons from different kinds and families, you can actually recognize them as true dragons by the art style alone.

Miguel Regodón made a awesome job in 1E, and I hope to continue seeing his amazing work in 2E. I can't deny wanting to see his take into the imperial or the planar dragons as well.

I'm surprised how closely does PF2 Bestiary 2 mirror the PF1 Bestiary 2. I mean, it's down to Kelpie and Korred sitting next to each other. I was somewhat expecting B2 to be a selection of stuff from across all PF1 bestiaries and softcover books, but it really is a large chunk of PF1 B2 redone for PF2. Which is a good thing, because B2 was quite a lot of monsters filling out thematic and mechanical gaps left by B1, but still, it's surprising.

Considering that Grendel was a mythic creature in 1e, I'm super curious to see how a 2e Grendel looks!

It looks level 19.

Gorbacz- did you get all the information from viewing the flip through on YouTube ? It didn’t seem high enough resolution to see levels of creatures . But maybe I was using to small a screen

I could see the levels just fine. The resolution was low so people couldn't complain about pirating, but Creature Level was definitely visible.

Some levels were hard to read because of a glare on the left page, but mostly they were legible. Actually, that was most of what I was looking at when I watched it.

Reading the statblocks on a 15,6" screen at 1080p was doable, not sharp enough to call the process comfortable but it does the job. I guess it will be even easier at my 27" home monitor.

I think the advantage here was several of the Bestiary 2 monsters from 1e actually got moved up to 2e. (Aeons, Daemons, etc for example). Which is how we got the Oni, Grendel, etc added.

Honestly, I could read the paragraphs by pausing, it was a strain though, I'll be super happy to have the actual pdf though / hard copy in a few days.

Also gonna guess from the APG preview, that some things, like the Oni, were partially because of Lineages for versatile heritages, like Oni, would be Tiefling Lineage.

I loved the picture of Grendel.

Weird. This is in my digital downloads, since it's shipping soon, but the ZIP doesnt seem to have anything in it?

My copy was shipped today day Grendal is indeed a level 19 CR.

This continues the trend of Paizo keeping (most) monsters at the same CR/level between P1 and P2 (the only exception I can think of off the top of my head is the Banshee).

P1 CR19, P2 level 19, despite losing 7 Mythic ranks in the process.

Spider or spider like creature warnings. pgs 37, 60, 148, 157,217 (This is NSFL, really you did not need to use this picture paizo.), 234 (scoprions), 246, 249, 260.

:/ I know that aracnophobes need warnings to avoid severe anxiety, but as someone who loves spiders it hurts my soul when someone says that you didn't need to use an arachnid picture

I have it and they knocked it out of the park, answering questions here on reddit:

Feel free to help out answering questions or asking things you think might be worth hyping, I do this to hype up the product and make every release as exciting for as many people as possible, since I want to share my excitement and help out the game's burgeoning popularity. I don't lie though, if I don't love something I'll be honest about it.

I am fine with regular spiders but it's an demonspider and is wrong on so many levels.

I can report that there were robots with lazors nearby.

And yeah, PF2B2 follows the general trend of having much more consistent art style. PF1 swung wildly, even if the individual pieces were excellent.

PS: Bring back Arnold Tsang.

PS2: Oh wait you can't, he's now working for Blizzard and doing Overwatch.

Brink back whoever did the Lamia arts in the 3.5 Rise of the Runelords bestiaries, some of my favourite art.

I would love to see more of Ekaterina Burmak in a bestiary, specifically, I woul love to see her take on the asura and the agathion. Her art is actually my favorite.

My favorite early art was actually that vaguely animeish art most D&D old school fans don't like xD

My other favorite art was the artist for War for the Crown and Tyrant's Grasp :D Both the maps and characters

But yeah, I enjoy art in 2e in general, though I don't like all the new designs. Like I don't like Pit Fiends become less lizard like and more human faced to make them more distinct from D&D pit fiends. Like sure they look different now, but to me they look more generic devil with pitchfork like.

Thats more of minor nitpick though :D But yeah in case it needs repeating, I think the map art in 2e has been great so far

Watched the preview video on Youtube, and I completely agree; the art style is more consistent, and 99% of all the illustrations in the book are just gorgeous. This is due to excellent art direction, bravo! :)

I was surprised, too, how well this Bestiary mirrors the contents of its 1E counterpart, plus then some. It's an impressive collection of monsters, and the beautiful art makes it even more appealing to me. I think this may even be my favorite monster book for (A)D&D and Pathfinder so far!

I preordered Bestiary 2 at my FLGS, but they told me it's unlikely I'll get it before autumn. It's a long wait, but it's reassuring to know it'll be worth it. :)

Qlippoth art in this book is greatest :D Bit disappointed with daemon art though, or rather the designs. Nothing wrong with art for daemons themselves, the designs just look less striking than in 1e

A little surprised Strix and Gillmen weren’t also introduced here, given their big namedrops in the World Guide. Apart from those omissions (and maybe some Valkyries and robots), loving the selection. Amazing, indispensable book. I know they’re pretty niche, but seeing the

Wow. Didn't know that pre ordering the bestiary 2 from roll20 gives you access to pdf ._.; Since that wasn't said anywhere on either site.

...I guess it does make sense, but still really positively surprised

...It could also be just a mistake though relating to the API now that I think about it, so uh, sorry? Wait why I'm apologizing, if its a mistake, I'm now reporting to Paizo so they know to fix it if they want it to be subscriber exclusive thing

still no email ;(

Yeah, waiting with baited breath as well. Hoped that the book would be send a week before the official release date, but alas, nothing yet. Fingers crossed we will get access to the pdf this week!

Shipping can be so hit or miss. My gods and magic book came after the official street date, gmg came late in the cycle, but I got my B2 on Monday.
