They were designed to serve mainly as NPCS or as very rare characters for specific games (like those generous GMs). They are a 0-HD race more akin to svirfneblin or drow nobles in that sense.
Ahh, I see. Thank you!

What I would really like to know is if some of the Demon Lords and the Great Old Ones are making it into this book. But I'm sure it's to early for this kind of information... Hope if they do, none of them are reprints.
And also, as you might have noticed (I know it's really hard) I'm a really big fan of dragons, and I'm super curious about the ones in this book, as this is supposed to be the "legendary foes book".
I know everyone would like a bigger diversity, but I would be ok with a set of six dragons related to the prominent good and evil planes. Actually, I would be ok with anything if they are truly epic dragons. Maybe some of them could get CR above 21 at ancient age category, just saying... XD
Will we ever get more than five dragons in one book again? There is the Thaumaturgic sept that has eight breeds, so I always thought about this possibility.

We've pretty much abandoned that initial set of alternate types of dragons that we tested in Dragons Revisited in favor of the direction we're going now: groupings of 5 along different lines and themes than what we tried out (and ultimately decided against) in that book.

Thanks for the answer James! I'm sure this will help us with or expectations about the 5 new dragons.
I just like dragons. :p And you know Linnorms.
I'm a bit surprised with that, Thomas. XD

While I agree with Ragathiel and Black Butterfly I still think Arshea should be included. Seven high praises to the spirit of abandon! :D

Hmmm...sooo...there's going to be five new Dragons and their going to be OUTER plane-based. Also I seem to remember seeing the words "virtuous" and "heavenly" in the book's description of the new dragons (although it could have just been my imagination). So, maybe Dragons based on Elysium, Heaven, Nirvana, the Boneyard, and Axis then?

At first I thought about the same breeds, but than I realized - with Dragon78's help - that would make to many good aligned dragons, don't you think so?
Wouldn't it be better to have the "virtue" (NG) and "sin" (NE) dragons, representing the celestial and the fiendish planes, and than three other representing the Maelstrom (CN), the Boneyard (N) and Axis (LN)?
That would make a perfect set of five neutral dragons, that could go with any setting and affairs related to the outer planes.

Nighttree,
I think we've run out of Tane...
Aren't there at least five?
Don't have my books but, there's the Jabberwocky, Jubjub Bird, Bandersnatch, that weird tree thing and the magenta-scaled, fire-breathing bear with a serpent for a tail thing.
Or maybe I've got that wrong...
Kalindlara - HELP!
(Please and thank you.)
<edit> Found the info! So no worries.^^

I'm all for Boneyard/Purgatory Dragon.
Nighttree,
I think we've run out of Tane...
Ok, so you wish for more environment/elemental gigas, for more dragons, for more linnorms (there are like 10.000 of each of those already) and you think Thane (which only have 5 members so far) are overdone and worked out?
I hope this bestiary is covered with Thanes, I love them.
Kalindlara Contributor |
Interestingly, in Kingmaker, Thrasfyr is described as "a mountainous mass of hooks, barbs, and iron". Kind of wonder what happened with the art.
Kingmaker also notes that "no one beyond the Eldest knows just how many of the Tane still breathe within their hidden barracks". So more are always a possibility. ^_^

It has been a while sine we have gotten any new tane.
5 Outer plane based Dragons could be called.
NG- Holy, Celestial, Heavenly, Elysium
NE- Dark, Unholy, Fiendish, Abyssal, Hellish
CN- Chaos, Maelstrom, Protean, Discord
LN- Axiom, Law, Axis, Axiomatic
N- Boneyard, Cosmic, Balance, purgatory
NG- Can be found in any good aligned plane. Has glowing white body, feathery wings, and a holy based breath weapon
NE- Can be found in any evil aligned plane. Has red and black body, shadowy black wings, and a unholy based breath weapon.
CN- Dragon from the maelstrom. Can vary in color, has one bat wing and one feathered wing, and breath weapon does chaos damage or random energy damage.
LN- Dragon from Axis. Has a metallic coloration, sleek with no marks or visible scales, maybe some clockwork traits, and breath weapon does law based damage.
N*- Dragon from the Boneyard or any neutral plane. Skeletal appearance, eats undead, evil spirits, and outsiders that feed on mortal souls.
+If the dragons weren't outer planes only I would have loved a positive energy plane(quintessence) based dragon for N alignment.
Set |
I am hoping more for a CN alignment for any of them really.
More chaotic and lawful critters would be cool, outsider or not. They can serve as adversaries or allies, depending on the story, making them more versatile than evil or good creatures, and yet some of them, like inevitables, are, IMO, deadly dull.
More proteans, or axiomites, or formians, or different sorts of lawful or chaotic creatures, would be cool, as well.
Nightterror |
Nekomata cant be good or neutral, they summon undead, which are always evil. I hope they have nine lives they can also use to ressurect allies, and like the julajimus from d&d I hope they shapeshift into cute kitten forms to create a false sense of security in their mostly young prey. Cheshire cat n my opinion is already in bestiary 2

Well, nogitsune are already detailed as kitsune possessed/fused with an oni, so maybe bakeneko and nekomata can share a similar relationship?
---
And yeah, I definitely want a scene with angels and psychopomps escort guarding along the River of Souls, when a platoon of astradaemons attack... only for a styx linnorm to decloak and take on everyone.
The Gold Sovereign |
And than the styx linnorm is eaten by Nhimbaloth... :O
Talking about mythos, we already have and idea of which of the Great Old Ones are making their debut in Strange Aeon, at least four of them (two already made it, one was confirmed, and the other is pretty much supported by the plot - no names, no spoilers).
Are any o them in the Bestiary 6? I would love to see stats for Mhar, Orgesh and Yig.
Dragon78 |
Not all nekomata have the power to animate dead. In fact many abilities that bakeneko and nekomata have vary from region to region. So depending on wich version they use will decide what their alinment will be.
We are getting more proteans but it is unknown if there will be more formians in this one. I would be surprised if they make new types of axiomites.
I would prefer nekomata being it's own creature but making the bakeneko the oni version of catfolk would be interesting. But we already know there will be no oni in B6.
I have not heard any info stating that any great old ones will be in B6. But if anyone has heard differently say so.
