Hats off to Patrick for landing this project! The new, expanded format provides an excellent opportunity to do justice to an unusual region of Golarion that likely needs that extra space. This is at the top of my list of upcoming Paizo products.
If you are excited about the new 64 page format, you should totaly check out The Dragon's Demand. It's the first module to feature that format, and it's being written by this savvy adventure designer who totaly nailed the second module of Shattered Star recently!
anyho, the new modules are shaping up great, and I like how Paizo keeps mixing stuff up, by having back to back modules be about "fight the dragon" (a great and underused theme in fantasy roleplaying) and "steampunk inspired dungeon", as well as mixing up the levels (1 - 7th, 12-16th). I'm also happy to see that leveling up will not happen quite as often in this one as in the first module - 6 levels is a whole lot to cover in 64 pages, and 4 levels sounds more apropriate.
Sadly mixing up guns in Golarion is really not my thing, so I'm probably passing this up, but I sure like the feel I'm getting to the new line here.

I really hope one of the maps is Alkenstar and the other is the specific region. I believe steampunk may have been an inappropriate word due to the feelings of 18-19th century fantasy it inspires.
I like the concept of steampunk. It's definitely fun for cosplay at cons. I've not been able to experience a good steampunk fantasy, however I don't believe that Alkenstar is the place for that just because they feature firearms. I do think the dwarven factory sounds cool.
I am interested in how magic will react in the mana wastes. But I would be more interested in seeing a primarily non-caster party in an area where it doesn't have a niche for spell casters.
I will definitely be purchasing this (as well as the dragons demand). I may even start picking up the modules line if they will continue to go this route.
Also, BPorter: Very well thought out and respectful response. Kudos!

So, so, soooooo happy to see this. This makes me very excited to see what's on the horizon for the module line as well. Tian Xia exclusive adventure? Off-world adventure? Casmeron or Vudra adventure? So many possibilities!

Very happy to see more 12+ level play opportunities arise for PFS play...my fist high level PFS character Venture Captain Sigvard will retire at 19 some time this year...My second high level character, Farmer Zucherman, has been sitting at level 12 for some time now...
Still would like to see an actual level 12 arc for PFS again though.

No, but sanctioning a module that levels a PC up one level is different than sanctioning a module that levels a PC up 4 times.
Makes me wonder if it is going to be sanctioned like the APs have been sanctioned, from "here to there" is sanctioned at tier X to Y for PFS.

Well, it could be done like Thornkeep where it has multiple sections and a chronicle for each section. That actually would be excellent.
Their goal I believe it to do it more like Thronkeep then the APs. But I think the specifics will have to wait until it is passed along to Mike and John after it goes to print.

It was run last year during Paizocon. I didn't win a seat at the table, but 2 people who had didn't show up and I was allowed to roll a character real quick and join the fun. It was a good time, there were hiccups on my end with the Gunslinger class but the adventure itself for the parts we saw was a lot of fun and promised to be a great time. I got to pick Mr. Renie's brain a bit about Alkenstar, but there wasn't that much he could talk about as it didn't seem to be fully nailed down at the time.
I think this adventure could do a lot for those of us who love the Alkenstar area so we'll have to show our support by purchasing this product in the hopes that we'll get more attention in that area of the world. I for one plan to buy this module for just that reason. After all Alkenstar is the hold out of the Browncoats don't ya know.

Does Alkenstar create and use scattershot firearms?
Yes, the city of Alkenstar does produce scattershot firearms (such as the blunderbuss), typically in the Gunworks or another major firearm factory. Shieldmarshals aren't generally equipped with scattershot firearms, however, due to their chance for inflicting collateral damage and general unreliability.

'Tis true, a part of this module was run at PaizoCon 2012 as a sort of playtest, with Robert and several other of our beloved customers serving as guinea pigs to my first crack at a lengthier adventure (putting aside the couple PFS scenarios I've written). The players from that game will no doubt recognize some significant revisions from the version they played (all for the better, I assure you), and the whole experience was very rewarding, since it allowed me to see what worked and what could be improved upon, and I like to think it gave the players a sneak preview of what was planned for Alkenstar as well as the opportunity to give me input into what they'd like to see in this side of Golarion in general. In the future, I would like to host an even more casual seminar or informal gathering where we (I and possibly several other members of the staff as well as any fans interested) can talk about the implementation of technology into a fantasy campaign setting such as Pathfinder's, what sorts of implications and opportunities such technology presents, the steampunk tradition in fantasy games and what kinds of deviations from that formula people might like to see, and more.
This project has very much been a labor of love, and it wouldn't be what it is today without the fans that played with me at last year's PaizoCon as well as the many other Paizo fans who have an appreciation for steampunk and doing something a little different. :]

See the way I see it, Paizo's goal with Golarion is to challenge the notion that every setting has to fill into distinct categories like medieval, swords & sorcery, steampunk, gothic, oriental, Lovecraftian, sword & planet, etc. I don't see myself as a Steampunk fan at all, but I am a fan of Alkenstar and firearms in Golarion. I love how the setting blurs these lines, and exposes people to a unique blend of fantasy influences.
And the most brilliant thing? If the GM doesn't like it, he doesn't have to include, and doesn't have to buy products like this. It's why I love roleplaying games, and Pathfinder in paticular.
But conversely, Pathfinder has a real patchwork feel to it, and not all of it feels connected as well connected like other worlds. Individually some of the areas are great, but the "here is Vikings, here is ninjas, here is eygptians, here is technology" is putting off as a world. Something for everything leaves a bit to be desired.

It's certainly the adventure we've published in which the most guns appear (well, except maybe Rasputin Must Die!). If there were ever an adventure where having a whole party of gun-toting PCs would fit, I guess this would be it, but the adventure also deals quite a bit with alchemy, Mana Wastes mutants, and primal magic, so if you had a party that was too gun-centric, you'd risk skewing the thrust of the adventure away from these elements that are also very iconically Alkenstar/Mana Wastes. I'd suggest taking a look at it once it's out to see where you'd like to draw the line, but the adventure would certainly fit thematically for such a party.

I'm really eager to see Alkenstar up close. It'll be interesting to see which way certain aesthetics go, considering its location and primary Garundi and Keleshite population coupled with those Wild West expectations a lot of folks might have.
Also possible soundtrack suggestion at 00:24. :)
(if only because Ennio Morricone is probably already going to be getting plenty of play ;) )

Excellent news. I'm very much looking forward to becoming a Module Subscriber to pick up all the Dragon's Demand and Warden's of the Reborn Forge merch.

Unless the shieldmarshal has access to salt shot alchemal cartridges. Nonleathal and effective.

Any progress been made on the chronicles for this adventure (cough still waiting on ones for dragon's demand) Is it going to be similar to the dragon's demand with 3 chronicles and a bonus? A bunch of my local players have expressed intrest in playing this once it comes out so would be good to get a rough idea how I am going to plan out the sessions.
