The Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path begins here, in the small coastal town of Sandpoint. a FANTASTIC initial offering

As the first Adventure Path I ever purchased from the Pathfainder Game system, I have to say that I was instantly imptressed. It is fully packed with ample background info and gamemastering data and really set my team of mostly new D&D players on the right track to having excellent D&D adventures. All of the Pathfinder game system products I have purchased thus far have been of exceptional design and authoring. I look forward to many years of memorable adventures and can't wait to fully establish my team in the Pathfinder rules when I integrate the newly released core rullebook into our campaign.

I was really impressed with this adventure. The city of Sandpoint, its history and background, and its NPCs are extensively detailed making it a joy to read and very easy to DM. The main villains are very interesting, instead of the usual cardboard characters one sometimes finds in lesser quality works. The goblins are given a new life, and are a blast to throw at the PCs. Some of the encounters are quite challenging, and I would recommend toning them down a bit for less experienced groups.
The chapter describing the ancient empire in Varisia is also interesting, albeit small. The monsters in the bestiary are quite interesting also, specially the Attic Whisperer.

All in all, I strongly recommend this product.

Review: Pathfinder #1 Burnt Offerings

Enclosed is an exerpt from the review on my blog. My full review is a bit longer than is allowed, however it can be found on my blog which is attached to my profile.

Summary

The characters are present in the village of Sandpoint, when a host of goblins invade the town, that shows an unusual amount of organization that is atypical for goblin tribes. With the initial goblin foray defeated, the effects of the attack linger on. Clues lead the characters to a goblin hideout on Thistletop for the final showdown with mastermind behind the attacks.

Key features

1. A large dungeon adventure with 2 dungeons for the characters to explore.

2. A fully mapped out village of Sandpoint, along with a gazetteer detailing the village.

3. An interesting article by Wolfgang Baur titled The History of Thassilon.

4. The Pathfinder Journal, which has the feel of the older pulp sword and sorcery writing. Now the first one is more of a general introduction, and in the next books, it follows in a first person narrative. While there are a number of folks that consider this a flaw in the design, I consider it a feature.

5. A re-imaging of the classic goblin monster, that is both a bit comical and horrific. Count me as a proponent of the new image. I have always like their image as the small monser in the closet, that struggles in the realm of planning, but can still cause significant distruction due in part to their number.

Suffice to say that first installment is very solid, and there is plenty of information provided to allow for quite a bit of role playing and adventuring around the town. For a low level adventure, there is a good amount of action, and note worthy combats to be had.
Overall, I give this module a solid thumbs up, and it is one of my favorites in their Pathfinder lineup.

I'm wondering now if it's worth the hassle of listing it directly on eBay UK (which would allow me to cross list it on eBay US) or if people in truth are not interested enough.

The only thing that could qualify as "pull-out maps" would be the Pathfinder Chronicles: Rise of the Runelords Map Folio, but that's a separate product.

Add my vote to someone who came late and would by a compilation of RotRL. I would really love it if it was updated with the new rules. I think it would look amazing in a sexy hardcover too.

Just to point out. You can still find them in stores. Rare but they are around. I know the local game store chain still has one of each of the RotRL except I think number 2. In some cases like 4 on up they have 2 or 3 copies still left. Granted they are mostly spread out over there 4 stores.

At this point I've been one over with the PDFs. I would still love to have them in print form but that's just the compulsive collector in me.

Would love to see a tie in with the goblins and Kagmar from loot 4 less the goblin trader if they revamped this..I loved using the compatible stuff at times with the core stuff..and had this character start out in the original goblin raid and then shoiw up latter in adventures..the lumber mill making carts for less and magic shop later..in Magnimar..then the seedy..unground blackmarket..other this series is incredibly written thanks to you guys at paizo..great stuff. I agree with the earlier posting i also like pdf's but nothing like a good book in hand.

I'd like to include myself in the hordes of people wishing for this to be reprinted. Especially since I don't have cheap access to a printer :/

AP one is 4pm Indy time tomorrow, the Future of Paizo is 10am Saturday I think, but that one I'm uncertain on.

In the meantime, you can check out the Rise of the Runelords forum, where there are plenty of community-generated conversions and lots of other useful stuff.

Is the Sandpoint material in this book identical to the Anniversary edition, or is one more complete?

The information is a little more complete in the Anniversary Edition, yes. If only because there are a few additional encounters in Sandpoint in the adventures itself, but also because there's more illustrations of Sandpoint locals. And the words themselves are slightly increased in total count.

Second time running Burnt Offerings.

Feel Tsuto Kaijitsu tends to be a walk in the park for most parties. I also felt that his being a monk was a strange choice, since the player guide says there are no monastic colleges anywhere nearby. I guess he could have been sent away to one because he was a half elf and this greatly embarrassed his father.
I felt it might be more logical or at least offer more of a challenge if he was a rogue/alchemist. Anyhow, here is Tsuto as a rogue alchemist if this interests you.
