I'm also having problems with the new file. I've tried changing browser, cleaning cache and changing the computer from where I download the file, but I always get the old file. Hopefully this can get resolved soon.

The only way it makes sense is if activating and loading are the same action.

As written, that's how it works. It takes 4 actions to use quick alchemy with a reload 1 weapon.

Source GM Core pg. 255 2.0
If magic ammunition doesn't have an Activate entry, it's activated automatically when it's launched. Types of magic ammunition that have an Activate entry must be activated with additional actions before being used. Once you activate the ammunition, you must shoot it before the end of your turn. Otherwise, it deactivates (but it isn't consumed) and you must activate it again before you can use it. If you shoot the ammunition without activating it first, it functions as non-magical ammunition and is still consumed.

The action required to activate the ammunition doesn't alter how many actions it takes to reload. For example, you could activate a beacon shot arrow by touching it with 1 action, then draw and shoot the arrow as part of a Strike as normal. For a beacon shot bolt, you could activate it, load it into a crossbow, then shoot it, or load it into the crossbow, then activate it, and then shoot it.

I just did a quick scan through and don't see any changes for automaton other than some page layout changes.

Was this book supposed to be in the rulebook sub? I thought it had initially said it would be and have been looking forward to it but now it looks like it isn’t and the next one is the npc core.

It was announced upthread that this, and presumably other Remastered updates, are not part of the Rules subscription. If you have the product already, it’s pdf will be updated. If you subscribed later, or want a new physial copy, you need to buy normally.

I’m having the same issue, how did you get it to work?

The only change I've heard about is to reinforced chassis. It now provides a +3 item bonus to AC with a dexterity cap of +1, but uses your unarmored defense proficiency (and doesn't have regular armor stuff like a strength requirement or check penalty), and the item bonus increases by one when you reach level five and again at level 10.

Precisely. Barring being quickened, the only way to make use of ammunition posessing an Activate entry is with the Risky Reload feat.

1 action quick alchemy the ammunition
1 action activate the ammunition
1 action risky reload to boath load the ammunition into your gun and shoot it

Bringing this forward.

Hey folks,

Just dropping in to clear up some confusion. While this book was initially set up as being part of the Pathfinder Rulebook subscription, it has now been removed from that line. This book will NOT be part of the Pathfinder Rulebook subscription. If you've already canceled your subscription because of this misunderstanding, you should be able to restart with either War of Immortals or NPC Core on the subscription page here. If you have any troubles with that, please contact our Customer Service department.

Also, to answer some questions about the digital version, we should be following the same protocol we did with the Remastered Beginner Box. That is, both versions of the PDF will be attached to one another in such a way that anybody who has the Guns & Gears download will have access to both versions. Once I've uploaded the updated version of the PDF, I'll be sending out an email notification to inform folks that the new version is available.

Sorry again for the confusion!

I am not able to download the remastered file. i have tried two different machines.

Any thoughts?

Managed to do it, but that was a lot harder than I expected. In the end I had to remotely log on using my daughter's pc before I could get the correct file.

Cool, I think I like this more than the medium armour version. The auto-heightening is because you can't put runes on it any more?

I don't know why they decided to auto-heighten. I think it may be so that it's not worse than other armor choices. You can put runes on it.

It does not say what armor proficiency you use for it, but I would argue it is unarmored.

Expecting to see lots of Automaton Strength Monks and cloth casters

No, you can explicitly have runes carved on you. The reason you don't start with a +4 item bonus to AC is so that you can't get a better unarmored AC at level 1 than other characters. Otherwise monks could get an AC of 20 at level 1, which is a bit much for GMs to deal with*. The continued scaling at level 10 to heaby arnor levels is... surprising. Not a big problem in my opinion, but I suspect we are going to hear some bitter Mountain Style monks complain. Also, the PFS options page ruled that unarmored proficiency is used.

*Upon Player Core 2's release, this was possible with the Dragonblood Feat Scaly Hide, and there was some backlash on the forums. The Winter 2024 errata made the feat scale so this was less of a problem.

it does feel funny to get remaster pdf in digital files but not owning this one technically according to the site ui :O does that mean the guns & gears in files will get updated in future as well if this one gets errata?

I have 2 times guns and gears in my downloads, but none of them is remastered

Hav you tried downloading the new one? My remastered copy didn't say it was remastered, but downloading the new version showed it was the remastered PDF.

Is G&G(R) not part of the rulebook subscription? :ThinkingEmoji: Been waiting to see it arrive in my files yet I'm hearing of Demiplane and Herolab have already updated their rulesets (This usually happens AFTER subscribers get the PDFs). Thanks for any heads up either way.

It's been confirmed several times here that remastered reprints are not part of the subscriptions. (I'm not syaing it this way to chastise you- I just want to cite my sources).

I appreciate the heads up. Yeah, I missed that and really didn’t want to read the 173 comments prior to mine. (I probably should have but I haven’t had the time due to life and all the lemons I’ve been getting recently.) Thanks for the heads up.

Since nobody else has mentioned this, it looks like there's a lack of optimization/compression on the remastered PDF.

I'm a little surprised - I assumed with it being a new rule book, the rule book subscription would contain this. Any reason it does not?

Shadracht wrote:

Because it isn't a new rulebook. Guns & Gears came out in fall of 2021. None of the core content changed meaningfully. It's much more akin to a new printing than a new book.

There is a reference to Monster Core 2 on Page 71?

Both there in the Instant Spy item description, as well as on Page 98 in the Ambling Surveyor item description. They refer to a Clockwork Spy, who was originally in Bestiary 3!

Huh. Very tiny modification to the Unstable trait. If you're Legendary in Crafting it becomes a DC 13 instead of DC 15.

Was kinda hoping for a bigger change than this, but at least it's something.

I thought that Paizo was only doing the core books as remaster? I went and bought all the physical books about a year ago with that information and now I look at what new books are available and find things like this, Guns and Gears and Treasure Vault are remastered now too. What about things like Book of the Dead or Secrets of Magic or Dark Archive? All that money spent on now out of date books. I'm aware of AoN and errata, but I shouldn't have to go to others sources and flip though printed errata to find differences. I would've held off on buying all these books if they hadn't had made a statement saying the core books only were getting a remastered edition.

The books are remastred because they were due for a second printing and errata pass and it makes no sense not to remaster them at that point as you’ll be looking over the rules anyway. The changes are more in line with an errata pass than a complete rewrite, so it’s no different to any other errated book.

So, I don't know if anyone has brought this up yet or not, but I want to say I REALLY appreciate the links in the front of the PDF in the table of contents. They really help when you're looking up a rule quickly. Now, if only we could get links on the right page ribbons to jump directly to where you're looking for, that would make the PDF much quicker to reference than the physical book at the table for me.

Has anyone seen the book in their FLGS yet? I asked mine to hold a copy for me but they still don't have it.

Can anyone verify that all you need for Errata to get someone up from the original printing to the current would be to print off the following in the FAQ.
Guns & Gears Remaster Errata (Winter 2025, Remaster Compatibility)

Or would there be any things things found in the FAQ of Guns & Gears Errata (Spring 2024, 1st Printing) that you would also have to reference?

If you already have the Guns & Gears PDF, you'll get the remaster version of the download automatically just like you would when we release a new printing with errata.

So...when? Or is this just a new printing/cover of the errata'd version released last December?

The file in your downloads for Guns & Gears that says it was last updated Dec 3, 2024 is the Remastered version.
