Bundling up for the winter...

----------------

Some of you are only recent arrivals to the Taldan village of Heldren, while most of you have been here awhile. And while all of you carry different reasons as to your migration to the town, you all can safely say that the town has been experiencing an unnatural cold as of late.

Despite the fact that it's the height of summer, heavy snowfall has blanketed the village and the surrounding forests. Investigations into the frozen woods have come up with no answer as to the onslaught of cold, and only bring whispers of an unnatural presence and new, dangerous predators.

But in any event, life goes on for the townsfolk, with the only noticeable differences being the hunters and loggers that bundle up for long shifts in the snow, and the whispering rumors that drift through the streets.

So this begs the question: where are you?

------------------

In order to streamline gameplay, would all of you be willing to use Skype to do some of the more lengthy encounters?

It's about that time of year where Christmas commercials air before Thanksgiving dinner is served, cold medicine is on the rise, and last-minute vacation plans are made. So, what better way to kick off the holiday and winter season than with a campaign based in Golarion's northern hemisphere? I've been away from the wonderful world of Pathfinder for too long, and I'm itching to get my teeth back into Paizo's wonderful world.

The ideal number of players for this campaign is four or five.

Estimated deadline for character submission is next week. I understand that people have schedules and school work to take care of, so I'm setting the deadline to be as it is to accommodate and allow room for everyday occurances.

Character Creation Rules

1. Stats will be generated using either a 25-Point buy system or rolling for them in the recruitment threat going by the 4d6 system of adding the highest three and dropping the lowest one. In the case of the latter, you may reroll the lowest score, but must take the new score in its place. Pick whichever method seems to be more ideal for you.

2. All Paizo classes and archetypes from all source books are permitted, barring the Summoner Synergist. Third party classes/archetypes are not permitted.

3. There is no specific race restriction, but if you wish to use something that's not a part of the CRB, let me know and I'll mull it over.

4. No evil characters.

5. Grab two character traits. One must be from the RoW Player's Guide, which can be downloaded for free from the website.

6. A character background, while not necessary, is a nice supplement. It doesn't need to be a six-thousand word biography (unless you want it to, in which case, go ahead), but it should be able to give me a basic understanding of who your character is and his/her motivations and personality.

--------------

If you have any questions, or if you want something in character creation specified, please don't hesitate to let me know.

I wish all of you the best of luck.

Best regards,

GM_Fenwick

There is nothing at first. Nothing but an empty void barren of all life. The only thing that greets you is a set of malevolent glowing eyes and the terrible words it speaks.

"We are eternal, the pinnacle of existence and evolution combined. Before us, you are nothing, mere embers that linger because we permit it. Now, you shall be extinguished because we demand it. Order must be imposed on the chaos."

"I am the Herald of your annihilation. Resistance is futile. Surrender and die."

Suddenly, the eyes are extinguished, and you feel something urging you to stand up. Begging for you to rise. It brings you out of the void, out of the nothingness.

"Wake up...please wake up!"

When you open your eyes, you find the cloudy mask of the quarian bartender. Closer looks around you reveal that the others you met at the bar are lying beside in similar states of semi-consciousness.

It is very dark in the area you are in, an enclosure littered with debris and ruined structures. There is barely any light fixtures that have power, and those that are are sparking mess just waiting to become an electrical hazard.

"Oh, thank the ancestors you're alright!" he breathes, and you notice him cradling a shotgun in his arms. "The amount of debris that you were pinned under had me worried that you wouldn't be getting up anytime soon..."

What are your reactions?

The year is 2185 by the human calendar, and the galaxy is uneasy. Spectre Commander John Shepard of the Alliance has destroyed a Mass Relay, obliterating a batarian colony. After standing military tribunal, citing the defense of 'buying the galaxy time' in order to prepare for "a Reaper invasion", he is now in custody on earth, stripped of Spectre status and languishing behind a desk.

Four months have passed since then, and anyone in any system can tell you that everyone is uneasy. Rumors of shadow wars between unknown forces whisper from all corners of the Extranet, and doomsday prophets are citing the end of times. No one with sense is travelling without a gun. Politicians desperately try to assure the general public that all is well, but generals begin to muster their forces, particularly those of the Turians at the behest of a certain Vakarian's warnings.

But that is all irrelevant, for that is only important for a part of my tale and then becomes significant only for the story of Commander Shepard. No, his is not my tale to tell.

There are certain individuals sitting at a bar on a Fuel Depot drifting through the Artemis Tau. They arrived to the station by chance or convenience, each carrying with them their own dark pasts and troubles a-plenty.

Unknown to them, these individuals are about to be swept by the jaws of fate, destined for great and terrible things. But what lays in store for them is something that even I am not privy to...

Will they stand defiant against the abyss? Or be consumed by its ravening jaws?

----

The Ursa is a medium-sized, privately owned space station designed to be a fuel depot for passing ships of all race and coin. While its only residents are those that have permanent jobs performing maintenance and other laborious activities aboard the station, there are still residential areas that cater to visitors and tourists, though it is obviously nowhere near the glory of the Citadel.

The illusive Mister Jackson is the station's owner, a wealthy human who likes to keep out of public eye. For the most part, he allows his station to be run by the administrators and dispense discipline and justice when necessary. Don't disturb the peace, and the administrators won't disturb your head off.

Possessing a similar build to the infamous Omega, there is a place for almost every person. Armor, ship parts, whores, bobble-heads, you name it. If you can think it, then it should exist. A general description of the 12 mile structure include:

10th Floor: Mister Jackson's Private Floor

9th Floor: Residential Blocks for Visitors and Neptune's Lounge, a bar of respectable repute and owned by Mister Jackson.

8th Floor: Marketplace F2 (Mechanical Parts, Ship Parts, Tourist Attractions, etc.)

7th Floor: Marketplace F1 (Armor, Foodstuffs, Guns)

6th Floor: Ship Docks Iota-000 to Mu-999

5th Floor: Ship Docks Epsilon-000 to Theta-999

4th Floor: Ship Docks Alpha-000 to Delta-999

3rd Floor: Permanent Residential Area

2nd Floor: Permanent Residential Area

1st Floor: Permanent Residential Area

??? Floor: Rumors linger that floors underneath the 1st floor exist. Mister Jackson has firmly denied such claims, but rumors still persist.

------

You have landed on The Ursa. Who are you, and what is your business here?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

So I find myself over the weekend, replaying Mass Effect 2 because my gaming console reset itself and it hit me harder than a charging krogan: "Are there any Mass Effect Tabletop RPGs?"

The question had me pause the game and hop onto my computer. A few Google searches later, and I find that there are SEVERAL fanmade Mass Effect RPGS that exist within the internet! Now, I couldn't just sit around and wait for the school year to start and return to my RPG club. I have to NEED TO play it. Because God knows that we're all still butt-hurt over ME3's less-than-satisfactory ending.

This is where you come in. Link to Creator Site is here. There is a link on the page where you can download the rulebook.

Criteria:

1) Four/Five people will be chosen to play test.

2) As a d20 conversion, several components of Character Creation are similar. Generate stats using the 4d6 approach, dropping the lowest number and adding the three highest numbers together. You may re-roll a single stat and assign the numbers freely.

3) No Race/Class restrictions, but I will only accept ONE PC with a Sentient Geth background because of obvious reasons. Please keep that in mind when creating a character.

4) Use the "Average" starting GP credits provided in the Class Description.

5) Because of a lack of a formal "alignment system" in the Rulebook, Paragon/Renegade points will be the way to go. You can have an "alignment" if you want to, but know that the prioritization goes to Par/Ren points. Start with 20 points and distribute them freely between Par/Ren as you see fit.

6) Starting Level will be at 3. You guys have seen some bad things in the galaxy, but have pulled through regardless.

--------

One more thing...

When in the Mass Effect Timeline do you want to play?

1) Before the Storm {Any time Pre-ME3}

2) Galaxy at War {ME3 Events}

3) Rebuilding what was Lost {Post ME3}

* My custom ending: Shepard fires the Crucible without the brat's Catalyst's interference -destroying the Reapers and their Forces w/o killing the Geth/EDI- gets evacuated in time and crashes on unknown planet with crew. They are rebuilding the Normandy SR-2 and most likely will not be seen by the PCs if you chose to play in this timeline.

The Aquila lander flying you to the Angelae Imperator was one of the best examples of inter-planetary shuttles that the Inquisition had to offer. Despite its spartan decor, there is something soothing about the grey benches and small confines of the ship. Purity seals and inspirational texts are stuck to the wall, either affixed by an adhesive or etched into the metal itself. Truly, this is a shuttle worthy of the Inquisition.

Some of you remain silent while the others have begun conversing. The conversation in itself is animated, but subdued, but there is an excitement in the air that can be felt.

"We shall begin approaching the Angelae Imperator in twenty standard Terran minutes," the voice of the tech-priest piloting the lander drones over the intercom. "And it will take an additional ten minutes to dock."

The human Imperium is a dark, dangerous place. While Space Marines and the Imperial Guard battle aliens among the stars, it is the job of the Inquisition to hunt down the traitors who corrupt society from within. You are a member of this glorious organization, a fresh acolyte in the retinue of Inquisitor Alistair Sharben of the Ordo Hereticus. In your journeys through the galaxy, it is your holy duty to scourge the heretic, suffer not the xenos to live and purge the daemon in the Emperor's name.

But remember this: there is no such thing as innocence; only degrees of guilt.

***********

The grimdark universe Warhammer 40k is what originally got me into tabletop games, so it's only fitting that I return to them now that I've got a couple of years of experience under my proverbial belt. While it would be a bloody nightmare to try and coordinate the large-scale battles over the message boards, I'm more than happy enough to run a Dark Heresy campaign. I really miss d100/% dice.

All are welcome, be they veterans of the 41st millennium or newcomers to our dark corner of the galaxy.

Character Creation
1) Character Stats will be generated according to the Core Rulebook, with the allowance of a single re-roll for your lowest stat and 400 starting EXP to spend at your discretion.

2) You can use any source book to create a character save for Ascended. Emperor knows you won't be touching that anytime soon, as its a prestige class supplement.

3) Background is important. While you can create your own unique planet for your acolyte to hail from, keep in mind that your character is an acoylte in the service of the Inquisition, and your past prior to service should reflect that. Having a cool character is better than having a super-powerful character without a "character". Best background(s) gets either extra starting EXP or extra starting money.

4) Interested players will have until Friday the 30th to sumbit characters for my approval. I'm looking at a 5/6 man cell that's well-rounded and balanced for both investigation and combat.

Character Classes, Sample Images and Brief Descriptions (pictures taken from Google Images, descriptions taken from 1d4chan)

* Adept (Lexograph or Logister) - The brains of the party, quite useful when it comes to knowledge.

* Adepta Sororitas (Famulous, Hospitaller, or Battle Sister) - Nuns with guns. The Inquisitor's Handbook adds in Sisters of Battle, but it represents them in a general light, so one might just be a booky nun rather than shooty. With Blood of Martyrs, rules are added in for strictly being bolter-b!tches and nothing else.

* Arbitrator (Enforcer or Investigator) - Judge Dredd in space. 'Nuff said.

* Assassin (Nihilator or Infiltrator) - Murderhobos with little to no training or scrubs who really wish they were working for the Officio Assassinorum.

* Cleric [This picture is kickass!] (Confessor or Zealot) - Clerics of the Empra' who kick arse for the Throne. Imagine a priest with a sawn-off shotgun.

* Guardsman (Stormtrooper, Officer or Sniper) - See "Imperial Guard".

* Imperial Psyker (Savant or Scholar) - Can try to channel the chaotic energies of the warp, usually with mixed results.

* Scum (Ganger or Fixer) - The rogues of 40k actually have a skill called "blather". Apart from that, the name says everything else you need to know about them.

* Tech-Priest (Technomancer or Omniprophet) - Borg clerics of the Omnissiah, the machine god.

Opening Preface:

Korvosa, the Jewel of Varisia, has long sparkled on Varisia’s southern shore. Established 300 years ago by Cheliax at the height of that empire’s expansion, the city now commands its own destiny. A line of Korvosan kings and queens emerged to rule the city, establishing an infamous seat power—the Crimson Throne. Rulers have sat upon the Crimson Throne for more than a century, and the city has flourished. Yet the monarchy always seems on the brink of disaster. The Crimson Throne is not a prize to be won—it is a curse. No monarch of Korvosa has died of old age, and none have produced an heir while ruling. Even though King Eodred II controls Korvosa more fully than any previous monarch, that control remains tenuous, and many secretly count the days until their latest king falls to what they call the Curse of the Crimson Throne...

******

So how did you all get to Korvosa, if your backstory hasn't established you living there and/or arriving there recently?

I'm gonna put my GM-ing skills to the test and see if I can manage two games at one time. I've been able to do this at my school's RPG club (which I happen to be the president of), so I figured "why the hell not".

Rules:

* 20 Point Character buy

* All Races

* No class restrictions except for [Gunslinger]. All archetypes are permitted.

* Alignment must be either any of the Goods, the Neutrals or Lawful Evil (the only evil I am willing to accept).

* Feats/Traits from any Paizo material.

* No 3rd-Party materials. We've gotta stick with the Paizo Product line.

That being said, I hope to adventure with you soon!

- I will be using the Anniversary Edition of RotRL.

That being said, I hope to adventure with you soon!
