Remembered as the Ruby Phoenix, the legendary sorcerer Hao Jin disappeared without a trace centuries ago never to be seen since. The Pathfinder Society has spent much of the past decade exploring her vast museum demiplane, yet in recent years the demiplane's very existence has begun to unravel, threatening to cast its contents into the void. The Society's leaders believe that only Hao Jin herself might be able to repair her creation, and a new lead at last reveals where she had gone: the realm of perfect law, Axis. As elite agents, the PCs must track her down and convince her to save the tapestry demiplane and all of the creatures that live there.

The game MUST finish by 1/13/19, so be prepared to post regularly to help meet that deadline. Priority given to the Exchange, Liberty’s Edge, and Silver Crusade factions.

As this module is long, very complex, and not written with Pathfinders in mind, I’m only making a token effort at tying the opening to the Society.

You find yourselves at one of Lady Gloriana Morilla’s estates, just outside of Oppara. When all are assembled and refreshments have been served, she gets down to the business at hand.

”A Taldan merchant named Hanoris Dellum contacted me recently with an very intriguing proposition; one he promises will make the Society incredibly wealthy and even more famous. Normally I wouldn’t be bothered to entertain this type of proposition; after all, the Society certainly lacks for neither wealth nor fame...or infamy, for that matter. But my curiosity was piqued when he mentioned that it involved a disgraced Taldan family—the Adellas. He claims to be the last living scion of this family, if you can believe that! While I’m certainly skeptical about his claim, he also mentioned he thinks he’s located the family’s legendary—at this point practically mythical—secure and remote boneyard, known to time as the Tomb of the Iron Medusa.”

”I’m asking you four to go meet with this Hanoris Dellum and find out more. He wishes to meet this next Oathday at a remote roadside inn northeast of Zimar, called the Lion Sleeps Inn, and he is insisting on absolute discretion. I’m afraid that’s about all I can tell you at this point. I’m counting on you to see where his intriguing claims lead.”

About the Adellas: Knowledge (history or nobility)

DC 10+:
The Adellas were an old Taldan noble family who disgraced youselves and were stripped of their title many years ago.

DC 20+:
The Adella house symbol was the medusa, said to have been derived from the family’s patriarch, Marcus Junius, who according to stories was so feared by his military subordinates that a mere glance from him would turn an unruly recruit to stone. The three branches of the clan each developed their own variation of this emblem: the howling medusa (Sardisi), the mocking medusa (Voxus),
and the cross-eyed medusa (Daellum).

DC 30+:
Critics commented on what appeared to be a race to self-destruction between the three clans. Certainly, the cancer of pride had worked its way into the Adellan psyche, polluting the noble house in ways both insidious and dramatic, and finally spelling the end for each of the three branches in succession.

The Sardisi clan was the first to fall. The Sardisis became preoccupied with pleasure and self-indulgence. The last of the clan, Drusus Adella, was known more for the fanatical devotion of his five daughters than for any significant accomplishments. Indeed, his lack of achievement was so profound he eventually retreated in shame to a self-imposed exile. By this time his daughters had been married off to important aristocrats, who were acutely sensitive to public humiliation. Their husbands forbade you any contact or correspondence with their disgraced father. Soon after the lonely and destitute Drusus committed suicide, opening his veins in the bath of a seedy Absalom brothel, his five daughters became infamous for murdering their husbands in 4222 and then vanishing from society.

These five scandalous murders had no clear connection to the other two clans, yet they triggered a cascade of increasing bad luck and ill fortune upon the family nevertheless. The Voxus branch was next to fall. Known for their nautical prowess, members of the Voxus clan traced their lineage back to Pasco Adella, admiral of the Taldan Third Fleet during the 42nd century and veteran of over a hundred sea battles. Later generations would exploit their family’s seafaring renown to become great import/export tycoons, controlling vast fleets of merchant ships plying the oceans of Golarion. But this branch of the Adella family withered during a literal civil war between twin brothers Vespacio and Vincenzo, who went so far as to field armies against one another. The crimes of their five murderous cousins may or may not have directly led to the fratricidal feud that dealt utter ruin to the Voxus branch in a single generation.

The last surviving branch, the Daellum clan, at first seemed likely to weather the ignominious end of their cousins. The cunning and ruthless Bartolomae Adella, who led the Daellums, was an exemplary and highly successful commander in the Taldan military, and for some months it seemed that what had come to be known as the Adella curse had passed this final clan by. Yet Bartolomae went on to suffer a crushing military defeat on the fractious Qadiran frontier. Humiliated to the point of blasphemy (although some held that Bartolomae’s blasphemies were nothing new), he fell on his powerful sword Infensus Mucro in contrition, yet even this act was hardly salving enough to atone for the family’s military failure. Indeed, so appalled was Grand Prince Beldam II by the family’s impressive descent into murder, hubris, and blasphemy that he proclaimed the entire family damnatio—their memory was to be wiped from every public record and monument, and all members stripped forever of noble status.

I have a new PbP campaign and the Gameplay thread won't work. I (and others) try to post but nothing happens. I'm told by more experienced PbP-ers that it's probably because I deleted the first post. Can you please get it working? Thanks very much!

I and a couple IRL friends want to get PFS characters to 20, so we're going to be doing high-level modules until we're at level 19.2. I'll be GMing Tomb of the Iron Medusa, levels 13-15. We are looking for two more players to join us at least for this module. We are:
Cleric 15 (me)
Investigator 15
Sorcerer 14
For this module, the party could really use a divine caster and a frontliner. Since modules are written for 4 PCs that's how we prefer to play them.

If interested, post here with the character you'd like to play.

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 5-9.

After two years of blood and bravery, the Fifth Mendevian Crusade has struck a terrible blow to the Worldwound’s demons and reclaimed lost territory. The Pathfinder Society, as one of the crusade’s partners in this endeavor, has earned the right to explore and salvage what it can of the lost Sarkorian sites under Mendev’s control, and it has identified one ruin as a priority. In fact, the site seems to actively call to one agent in particular, a scarred survivor of abyssal experiments. Venture-Captain Jorsal of Lauterbury has asked the PCs to accompany this agent into the wasteland, where perhaps she might learn how to control her demonic half—or purge it completely.

Content in “Thralls of the Shattered God” also contributes directly to the ongoing storyline of the Silver Crusade faction.

I'm putting together a 5th level Conjurer for Raiders of Shrieking Peak and I really want to add more spells to my book than the ones you get for free from leveling. Besides the cost (which is fine), there's an Arcana skill check. What's the protocol for this kind of situation when starting a character higher than level 1? Do I need to just have a list of the spells I want to scribe (and enough cash available on the PC) and roll Arcana at the table in front of the GM before we start playing?

Gameday has arrived at last! I'm excited to be GMing for you. Without further ado, let's get started!

Your assembled team convenes in Oppara at the clandestine lodge of Venture-Captain Muesello, who maintains his operation in the back rooms of a bait and tackle shop. His pockmarked face creases with concern as he nods to you in greeting, checks outside, closes the door, and posts a “Gone Fishing” sign out front. From there, he ushers you into a concealed room where Lady Gloriana Morilla waits in a chair near the fireplace.

“I appreciate your answering my call,” Venture-Captain Muesello says with a subdued smile as he closes the room’s curtains and clears away an unfinished wayfinder to make space. “Some of you may already know Lady Gloriana Morilla, and I shall explain why she’s joined us momentarily. First, let us remember that General Arnisant, hero of the Shining Crusade, is one of the most highly regarded figures in Taldor’s history. Arnisant’s hometown of Ridonport has always been especially proud of him, and nearly nine centuries since his death, his home’s still preserved as a museum. The Society regularly submits requests to the museum to examine the historical artifacts there. Usually we get a polite and curt ‘no.’ Most recently, though?”

Muesello tilts his head from side to side as if considering his words. “This time the curator, Cincia Reviamo, wrote that she cannot help because the local lord, Earl Calhadion Vernisant, has been taking undue liberties with the museum and its collection—apparently taking whatever he wants from it, claiming he has the right because he’s a direct descendant of General Arnisant. Taking priceless relics is one thing, but there’s another angle that Lady Morilla can explain better.”

Gloriana Morilla picks up where Muesello left off. “Taldor has many great legacies, but there are some traditions better left in the past. The practice of primogeniture dictates that Taldor’s crown only passes to male heirs, yet the laws have been amended over time to allow women to inherit land and titles in some circumstances.

“Even so, the Lion,” Morilla states, motioning that the animal has special significance, “has no male heir and seems utterly against his young Lioness leading the pride. It’s a stubborn stance that could condemn Taldor to civil war. I have spoken to many senators who also believe it’s time to update the empire’s inheritance laws. The Lion and his loyalists view this growing equality movement as a personal attack, even a coup. Among these is the Earl Vernisant, who would readily vote against reform just to become part of the Lion’s inner circle.

“Count Orlundo Zespire, however, is an undecided senator. Exports from his lands travel through Vernisant’s region, yet along the way many of the goods go missing as a result of canal piracy. Zespire suspects his colleague is at least negligent in allowing these crimes to transpire in his town—and possibly worse. It seems this isn’t the first misunderstanding between the two, and the count has informed me that he would be in the Lioness’s debt were she able to arrange someone to resolve the matter. If that also involves finding evidence that ties Vernisant to criminal elements, making that evidence public would cause the earl considerable distress and bring the count considerable joy. Just keep in mind that no matter what evidence you find, you’ll need to convince Ridonport’s citizens to trust you before they’ll take your word over that of General Arnisant’s descendant.”

Muesello clears his throat before adding, “Just to be clear, the Society’s interest is in stopping Vernisant’s relic-pilfering and getting in the curator’s good graces. It so happens that Lady Morilla’s and the Society’s aims overlap nicely. Visit the museum, talk to the curator, figure out how to protect the collection, and investigate the earl’s alleged misdeeds. Any questions?”

DC10 knowledge: local or nobility, or intelligence check:
the terms Lion and Lioness refer to Grand Prince Stavian III and Princess Eutropia respectively, and that Lady Morilla is using them for some combination of plausible deniability and thwarting divinations.

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 1-5.

For all its rich history and heritage, Taldor has not always welcomed the Pathfinder Society's inquiring minds. This is especially true of a small museum in Ridonport, birthplace of the legendary General Arnisant, who confronted the dreaded Whispering Tyrant during the Shining Crusade. However, the Society's ally Lady Gloriana Morilla has secured a small group of Pathfinders a unique opportunity to study the museum's relics. All she needs in return is the Pathfinders' investigative skills to uncover the local earl's indiscretions—an earl who proudly identifies as Arnisant's direct descendant.

Contents in Birthright Betrayed also contribute directly to the ongoing storyline of the Sovereign Court faction. This is one of several scenarios that also set the stage for and directly tie into the upcoming War for the Crown Adventure Path.

Can a boon that is for "one newly created PC" be used on a PC that has GM chronicles applied but has never actually been played?

Dark Archive

Say the PC sneaky scout has the spell "message" active. The PC has detected an enemy and whispers the presence and location of the enemy to other PC's via the spell. The enemy gets a perception check of DC 25 to notice the whispering, succeeds on the check, and becomes aware of the scout. If the enemy wants to attack the scout, regular combat initiative begins, since they are both aware of each other.

But would the rest of the PC's party (on the receiving end of the whispered message) get a surprise round, since they are aware of the enemy combatant, but the enemy combatant is not aware of them?

What if the scout had reported the enemy's presence and location to the rest of the party long before, and was only detected by the enemy while trying to sneak away?

3rd level cleric scroll of animate dead = 375 gp

total cost = 750 gp, which can be purchased for 2 PP

seems really straightforward, just want to make sure I'm not missing anything before I start buying these.

EDIT: I see I'd need to cast desecrate, otherwise the HD cap would be 10.

I just realized I made an error when I purchased ammunition for my Gunslinger. I didn't take into account the 50% cost for Alchemical Paper Cartridges and 10% Black Powder & Bullet cost. I did have points in Craft Alchemy when I made the purchase. I paid full price for 50 each:

Alchemical Paper Cartridge - 12 gold ea. x 50 = 600 gold
Black Powder & Bullet - 11 gold ea. x 50 = 550 gold

They should have been 300 gold for the Alchemical Paper Cartridges and 55 gold for the Black Powder & Bullets.

All told, I paid 795 gold more than I should have.

How should I resolve this on my Chronicle Sheets and Inventory Tracking Sheet?

What do you think are some of the most interesting items available in PFS? I'd like to "reward" some of my regulars who are great RP-ers and otherwise contribute a lot to making the games fun for everyone.

For example:

Spoiler:

Sanos Abduction: faerie dragon
Quest for Perfection: axebeak

The players I'm thinking of in particular are Samurai, Witch, Paladin, and Gunslinger.

EDIT: I hadn't heard of or thought about "cherry picking" before I posted this thread, and I apologize if this strays too far into that orchard. I just want to make my games even more fun for the players who help make the games fun. Thanks!

(not sure where to post this)

I like having background music on at my home Pathfinder games. I've made a station based around Final Fantasy soundtrack music that's pretty good, but it is getting repetitive. Does anyone else do this? any suggestions? Would anyone like to trade Pandora stations?

I got the PFS Winter 2013 GM Reward - Undine class boon. I know next to nothing about Undines. What would they be good at, from an optimizing perspective?

"Custom Order: You have a special contract with an ammunition crafter, and you are able to order small batches of specialty ammunition as a result. Choose either a +1 or +2 ranged weapon enchantment. You may purchase +1(enchantment) pieces of ammunition in sets of 10 instead of sets of 50. Once you choose the weapon enchantment, you may only change the enchantment type by spending 4 Prestige Points."

I don't fully understand this boon, as I don't have much experience with ammunition-using characters. I have a Gunslinger who's now level 3, and I'm wondering if this boon would be useful to him, or if it is for bows only?

I'm currently at level 3, and have ~4000g. My current Fame spending limit is 3000g. So far all I've purchased of note is a few wands and a Cloak of Resistance +1. Should I buy the +1 AC / 2000g Ring of Protection or Amulet of Natural Armor (I'm leaning towards no, because really I try to avoid being attacked and I'm hoping my gold might be better spent)? Is there anything else interesting at my current level? Anything I should save for in the near future?

I'm fairly new to Pathfinder; this is my 2nd character and my first caster. I'm Arcane bloodline, going for a well-rounded utility build. Current level 1 spells: Color Spray, Mount, Vanish, Identify (free spell). I've got wands of Infernal Healing and Enlarge Person.

Thanks very much for any input.

Thanks very much for any info.
