So my gaming group will be starting our first Curse of the Crimson Throne game in about 3 weeks. I'm going to be playing a Shelynite Bard, and he's built with a high Perform: Oratory. I wanted to take advantage of that, and so I went about finding a song or two I could use over the course of the game.

I know very little about the story of CotCT, so please stay spoiler-free.

Here is a little more about my character if anyone is curious. Zach, stay out! Yes you, the yeti. Anyone else who ISN'T in our group, please read on. It will make my motivations a little more clear.

Spoiler:

I'm not going to be a Shelynite bard at all. I will be playing a Hidden Priest of Milani, though the bit about the high Perform: Oratory is true. He is a Herald Caller/Hidden Priest, yes, with GM permission, and even the party thinks I am playing a bard. I am running with a Dervish Dancer, so they know I won't be able to use bardic music. Obviously it will come out eventually that I am actually a cleric, but it will be a fun ride along the way. Any suggestions on how to keep up the act are appreciated. I'll be taking a trait to make Bluff a class skill, and keeping it maxed, as well as using every roleplay opportunity to come off as a Shelynite.

Here is the song. I've already made a few changes to it, though obviously I will need to change the names of the Americans to my adventuring party when I know what their characters are named. The names Jesus and Moses could be subbed out for Golarion-specific prophets, for example. Most of the song fits already.

Please help me figure out a few appropriate changes to the song, namely anything that doesn't fit. I really want this to fit well, so when I spring it on my fellow players it works as seamlessly as possible. I bolded the changes I made.

I've actually been plotting this very thing for my upcoming game. Here is the basic rundown. Due to time constraints I can't go into much detail yet, but if you're interested I can go into more depth later.

I'm using the We Be Goblins line to forshadow events in Sandpoint.

We Be Goblins
Burnt Offerings
We Be Goblins Too!
The Feast of Ravenmoor
The Skinsaw Murders using the Boggards in Brinestump Mars on the way to Magnimar, and then the Dawn od the Scarlet Sun upon arrival in town
The Hook Mountain Massacre
The Ruby Phoenix Tournament
Curse of the Riven Sky (kind of concurrently with the Fortress of the Stone Giants, LOTS of overlap there)
Fortress of the Stone Giants
We Be Goblins Free!
Sins of the Savoirs
Academy of Secrets
We B4 Goblins!
Spires of Xin-Shalast.

If you want, I'll check back when I have a little more time and can go into greater detail.

J.J. A few easy questions.

My gaming group and I are in Humboldt, and one of my players is from the town of Mendocino. We're about to start the Anniversary edition of Rise of the Runelords, and it is the first time in this AP for the whole group (with my exception). I'm the GM.

1. Was the Lost Coast Road named for the Lost Coast of Northern California? I see some similarities (and a few differences) in the surrounding flora and fauna to our area. Was that also an inspiration? Obviously Sandpoint has a lot of forestland nearby, as does Point Arena.

2. We're considering taking a "Pilgrimage to Sandpoint" to visit Point Arena. Any time of year in particular we should go; places we should visit?

3. Is there anything else that someone so geographically close to Mendocino might recognize that was inspiration for Sandpoint, or anywhere else in Golarian for that matter?

4. For the matter, are any of the Golarian Gods/major NPCs based on people you knew growing up?

PS. If you're ever visiting home, and want to crash a Pathfinder game, we're only a few hours away!

Merephel busies herself checking in with everyone in town. She helps at the temple, and performs a few weddings. The wedding between Calden and Dimira is especially nice. She even dates a little, but never quite makes the connection she is looking for in another.

Eventually she takes a sabbatical, and journeys back to Tamran, to study at the Temple of Shelyn. She spends a year there, in quiet contemplation of what real beauty means. She paints, she sings, she laughs, and she teaches joy to her fellow worshipers.

It takes her a long time, many months of contemplation, but eventually she realizes that all she really wants is in Kassen.

She moves back home, and takes back up with the local church. Life continues as normal, but this time, Merephel is different. Nothing has really changed in her, save for her mindset. She went all over the country, and never found what she was looking for. It took her leaving Kassen again, this time on her own, to realize that what she'd missed was in Kassen.

Her family.

Merephel is happy, living a quiet life. She eventually does marry, and the townsfolk don't know what to think, as she marries both a man and a woman, but they all live happy, productive lives, and the village of Kassen is all the better for it.

She names her three children Calden, Shirzon, and Korech.

I didn't see my post got eaten! I think I recreated it well, but it's been a few days.

Merephel gasps as she comes to her senses.

"CALDEN!"

She looks around frantically, and eventually remembers the events. She sees her friend's charred body, and begins dragging herself over to him. She cradles his still smoldering body, her hands and clothes singing at the touch. Merephel starts to sing, a mournful funeral dirge, and as she sings, she points to the top pouch of her backpack. It is where the Salve of the Second Chance is kept.

Her voice starts soft, but she finds her inner strength, and gives the Calden she once knew a proper send off.

"Cry above a nameless grave
But all that's there is motionless
Angels sob with vermin's fangs
A funeral dirge drifts slowly by

Puppets they who come and go
And laugh but smile no more
Evil things in robes of sorrow
They are neither man nor woman

Hear the menace of their tones
In the silent watch of the night
Evil things in robes of sorrow
They are neither man nor woman

Cry above a nameless grave
But all that's there is motionless
Angels sob with vermin's fangs
A funeral dirge drifts slowly by"

After her dirge ends, she explains to Korech and Shirzon that the group needs to find a safe place to hole up, so that she can use the Salve on Calden. It takes over an hour to work.

I don't suppose tonight is the new moon, is it? And who is supposed to roll for the result? Calden?

If I had a dollar for every time I made that kind of a mistake, I'd be in a lot more PbP games, because I would be so wealthy I wouldn't have to work.

Here is Roycilo's submission. Well underway, but not yet done.

How did you want us to handle HP?

Dungeons and Dragons has always been filled with iconic monsters and traps, and has spawned several tropes accordingly over the decades. Yet, many players haven’t fought a dragon. Or a Mind Flayer. Or even just goblins/hobgoblins/bugbears. Pathfinder has continued this tradition of excellence in gaming, and people have developed more clichés as they play.

I have a homebrewed campaign setting built around this idea that I’ve used successfully for several tabletop games. It is filled with iconic encounters, like rescuing a princess from a tower, fighting a red dragon to loot it’s treasure hoard, or protecting a village from bandits. I recently brought it to the forums, and I am looking to run a second table.

This game will be in a world that isn’t dissimilar to the way many people fondly remember their first adventures: Through Rose-Colored Glasses of Nostalgia and Fond Remembrance…tempered by lots and lots of TV and Internet Tropes. Players would assume the role of classic heroes, intentionally using fantasy clichés to really play up the setting. Previous F2F characters include the farmboy who picked up a magic sword and found out he is the long-lost prince of the kingdom. The virginal priestess who rode a unicorn. The halfling rogue who was something of a klepto, but with a heart of gold. The bard who died. A LOT. (That was the same month the Gamers: Dorkness Rising movie came out, with the pile of bards, so it has really stuck with my gaming group, having been solidified in a way we would have never imagined!) Additionally, every time I run this setting, the party goes through a classic adventure module as part of the main questline. Previous modules include the Tomb of Horrors, Expedition to Barrier Peaks, and even a brief foray into Ravenloft.

Would you like to come on this journey with me?

It will be a Pathfinder-Rules-Play-by-Post.I have the expectation of at least one post a day on weekdays. I would prefer more, but one will be the minimum standard. Weekends are optional.

While the premise does lend to some light-hearted moments, and occasional silliness, this will be a full-blown Pathfinder game. Be sure to make fun cliché characters, but nothing that would detract too much either.

Setting:

Spoiler:

Althamar:
Althamar is a largely agrarian nation, ran by a family of Paladin-Kings. The Royal Bloodline is rich with Sorcerous power, and as such the threat of action by the King and his family is often enough to stay the hand of any would-be aggressor. Althamar’s population is approximated at two hundred twenty nine thousand people. About a third of the country’s population live away from towns or villages, and instead form a series of homestead communities with their closest neighbors. Often you will see four homes built very close together, forming a sort of square pattern, not unlike the Microsoft symbol. These families look out for one another, and foster a sense of community in their little neck of the woods. It is estimated that over 90% of the country’s population work in the farming industry, in one capacity or another. Halflings are by and large the most common non-human race in Althamarian cities, though they are actually third, not second, in population size. Althamar is unique in that it has several “kingdoms” within it’s borders: the Elven Kingdom in the eastern forests, the Sea Elves in the inland sea, and the Dwarven kingdom in the northern mountains. As such, the elves are actually the second most prevalent race in the kingdom, from a population standpoint.
Althamarian Geography:
Althamar is surrounded by mountains on about three sides, with coastal access in the southwest. Picture the country as a vast, flat plain of preternaturally-rich soil. The occasionally rivers and streams run all throughout the kingdom, and it has a large salt-water inland sea dominating the northwestern quadrant of the kingdom. Forests line the east and west foothills, with the forest on the eastern side being much larger. You’ll be starting the game in the city just north of the southernmost city of the country. That second star from the bottom, the city of Dromstron. Dromston is a city with lots of taverns. It's the place where soldiers from the southern military city of Combley travel on leave. Since Dromston accommodates so many farmers and off-duty soldiers, it is something of a poor man’s resort town. It has an active and engaging theater community, more taverns per capita than anywhere else in the country, and a lively and exciting boxing club. The city is at it’s core a tourist destination for the people of the region.

A Map of Althamar

Character Creation Rules:
Backstory:
First off, the backstory. It is the most important aspect of this recruitment, and while I don’t expect pages and pages of story, I do expect something decent. Please try to incorporate the following list:
• 2 character goals to accomplish in this game. Preferably at least one short-term, and one long-term.
• 2 secrets, one the PC keeps to himself, and one kept from the PC. I'll come up with a third that both the character and player aren't aware of, because plot.
• 3-5 people that are tied to your PC by blood, love, rivalry, honor, etc. I'd like at least one enemy in a set of three or four, with no more than two for a set of five.
• Three key memories that define your character as the person they are at the time of submission.
• Please speak a little to your character’s personality and appearance.

Yes, I am lifting all that from GM Knightmare Knight’s background format, by way of GM Fez’s recent recruitment thread. Lastly, when the game starts, none of you will be heroes or adventurers. Please try to reflect this in your background.

Level: Characters will start at 1st level.

Stats: 25 Point Buy. No ability scores below 8.

Races: All Paizo races are allowed within reason. That said, the core races are a bit more “classic”, and will likely have an easier time getting in. You’ll notice that the primary kingdom is very human-heavy, as it is the “Old Standard”, and as such if you aren’t a core race, you are very likely from another kingdom. Which is fine; just understand you may have less of a motivation to help the country in it’s hour of need. So be sure to work that into your backstory.

Classes: Any Paizo class is allowed, excluding Gunslinger, since the tech level just isn’t there. Alchemist is allowed, but needs to have a more high-fantasy feel. This includes prestige classes at higher levels; just run them by me first. Archetypes will all be permitted unless something really crazy comes up. No 3rd party material, and no early-entry shenanigans.

Alignment: Anything non-evil is allowed. Good characters are more “classic heroes”, and much like the core races, will also likely have an easier time getting in.

Deities: Standard Pathfinder Pantheon.

Skills: In addition to your normal skills, I am using the Background Skills from Unchained. They can be found on the PFSRD for anyone without the book. These should be relevant to your back story. I will be giving an extra skill point per level, that must be spent on Appraise, Craft, Perform, or a Profession skill. Three extra total. You’ll notice the heroes are often the best at what they do, even though you rarely see them ever practice. This is a fun way to acknowledge that, while making a roleplay skill easy to stay relevant. I’m also not of those GMs that punishes a group for not having a trapbreaker, or constantly screws people over for a lack of Perception or Sense Motive. Take those skills if you think your character would have them; don’t worry if you don’t.

Traits: You may select two traits. Campaign traits from APs may be allowed, but I reserve the right to approve or deny them on a case-by-case basis. Please no drawbacks.

Wealth: Max for your class.

Hit Points: Max hit points at each level.

About Me, as a GM: I've been playing D&D for over 20 years, and that is most of my life. I prefer grand, epic adventures; smart games, that are heavy on roleplay. Don't expect me to always guide you, instead, I prefer to let the party work together to make decisions and really go where they want to take the story. That said, I am on the boards for several hours a day, and will likely post multiple times a day. I try to adjust my posting rate to that of my players. I love incorporating backstories, and weaving tales that have people talking for years. As for houserules, I just make natural ones auto-fails for attack rolls, not fumbles. It helps with pacing for PBP, but NPCs can still fumble. You are heroes, after all. That, and successive criticals. You roll a 20, roll again. Roll another 20? Roll again. Etc, etc, until no natural 20 is rolled. Enemies don’t get this, not to worry. I am always available via PM.

What I am Looking for: I'm not as concerned with posting count as I am with posting rate. I want a well thought-out character, and characters without backstories are very likely to not get picked. The more you have, the better. I try to give preference to active PBP DMs as well, but it isn't a dealbreaker, but more of a tiebreaker.

Recruitment will run until Noon Pacific Time, Thursday the 7th of April. That is two weeks from today, at which time I will deliberate and pick a party of six PCs.

Merephel chants over the fallen man, trying to save his wretched life. She waves her holy symbol over his wounds. She sticks her finger on his arm, tracing a basic version of Shelyn's Songbird as part of the casting. In his blood.

'Hopefully he'll rethink this Razmiaran nonsense when he awakens.' She thinks to herself grimly.

She casts Stabilze on the cultist.

This is a lesson in how I need to be less forgiving.

In/Out of Game: A guy who was a friend of a friend (of a friend, actually) had invited myself and one of the friends over to his house for a new game. The GM was a guy I didn't know, but since I knew a few of the other players, I figured why the hell not. Good group, and we had a lot of fun. One of the guys I didn't know was hosting. At one point, his wife called him into their bedroom to help with something. The timing wasn't great, because it was his turn, but we politely waited for him. About five minutes later, he came back out, zipping up his pants. He smirked, and proudly declared he had just gotten laid. I made a sarcastic comment about how he'd been gone less than five minutes, and the group chimed in with how long it would take to take clothes off, put them back on, etc, and ended teasing him about it for a few minutes. Not terrific behavior, but he had the grace to look embarrassed. We ended up moving the game to another person's house when he was no longer available.

Eventually, a year or two later, that same guy invited me to a game with a GM I didn't know, and another player I did. Game went well, the new GM was actually quite good, very story-driven, and prone to bouts of really long in character conversation. I loved it. After several hours, the FIRST session, the host(Mr. Five Minutes) failed a REALLY trivial roll. I don't even remember what it was now, but it was a simple skill check. The player flipped out, stood up, and said his character slits his own throat. He threw his character sheet on the table, and went into his bedroom. He called out we were welcome to stay and continue the game. Cut to us, awkward as hell, not really wanting to keep playing, and not quite sure what had just happened. We ended up leaving later after he refused to come out, for twenty minutes.

Out of Game: A few years later, we ended up inviting several gaming friends over for a big group. I'm now married, and have a three-year old in the house. A friend also often brought his two-and four-year olds over. All the kids would play together in the adjoining living room, within eyesight of the parents. It was all working out great, and was the first time I ran a homebrew setting: which I am running a game in on these very boards. The setting stuck around, obviously. Here is the facepalm moment. That same player from above(Mr. Five Minutes) was in the game. It had been several years, and a player (a mutual friend) said that the troublesome player had shaped up. Sure enough, he had a good job, had gotten married also; it seemed things had changed for the better.

They hadn't.

We are a few sessions into the game, and he is playing on his cell phone. He, as a joke, played an adult video on his phone, and set it on the table. Something graphic. He was told to knock it off, and he put his phone away. He pulled it back out, and was told in no uncertain terms to KNOCK IT THE HELL OFF, as there were kids in the house. Thankfully they were in my daughter's room at the time.

He did it again, when the kids had come out to have a snack.

And when I say he played the video, I mean he turned the volume up as far as it would go, and made moaning noises along with the women in the video.

He hasn't been allowed back.

All done Calden, not to worry! Giuseppe, I changed several spells, including both domain spells. I posted them in the discussion thread for you.

Merephel, true to form, looks worried.

"I wish we didn't need to leave Evlar here, he just seems so lost. But, unfortunately, I believe you are correct. Maybe we can come for him when this is all over?"

Round 2

Merephel gags as the spiders swarm her, her eyes wild with fear. She struggles to cast a defensive spell, thankfully successful. She backs up several feet, trying to stay back from the majority of the swarm. She tries to throw off another spell, hoping to aid her allies.

Concentration Check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Merephel is poisoned!

She casts Bless on the group. I will add on another concentration check here, in case it is needed. That way the group can add the modifier if she is successful.

Concentration Check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Success! Merephel has Blessed the party.

Merephel shrugs at the half-elf's frustrated tone. She was put off at his attitude, but then again, he had a point. They were to wait. While Merephel loved to chat, she did have tremendous experience in patient meditation. She sits and focused inward. Her thoughts drift, as they often do, towards the Grace of her Goddess. She ponders for quite a long time, thinking of how she can mitigate the damage to her faith by masquerading as a follower of another deity. Eventually, she was able to reconcile her faith with her mission. It was a simple epiphany, really, but it was enough. Regardless of her Lady's aspects as Goddess of Beauty, of Luck, or of the Arts, at her core Shelyn cares. She is a good deity, one who is filled with concern for others. She wouldn't stand for the evils that the Razmirans were committing, the way they hold the city hostage, and most of all, the way the cult was misleading people about the truth of their "faith". They were criminals, pure and simple. Merephel would help protect the common folk from the Razmirans, and her Goddess would understand.

A time later, after Black Robe, as Merephel had taking to calling the man in charge, came and fetched the group, she was pulled from her thoughts. As they wandered the corridors, she was quickly lost. Merephel never did have a terrific sense of direction. She desperately hoped they didn't need to make a quick escape. She'd be caught before she began.

When they came to the last room, Merephel was impressed. Not with the grandeur of the room, but rather the audacity of the theatricality of it all.

'Surely they can't be serious? They rob the poor to maintain this lavish temple? This is criminal, in more way than one!' She thought angrily to herself.

She went to the first step, and received her mask. Once it was in her hands, she breathed a sigh of relief. Not being able to have others see her face would be a boon for Merephel.

'Is Krant Black Robe?' She wondered to herself.

When it came time to praise Razmir along with the congregation, she choked on the words, but managed to get them out.

"All...ha...hail Razmir."

It made her sick to her stomach, but she knew it had to be done. She waited awkwardly with her companions, and inwardly said a little prayer for strength.

Merephel, after many tears, several hugs, and equally many laughs, finally left her party. She was a whirlwind of emotions, and couldn't keep a rather large grin off her pretty face.

As she walked across town, a bounce in her step, she thought back on their adventures. All of her life, Merephel had had it easy. People gravitated to her looks, and to her personality. She recalled a time when she was especially mean to another young girl. They were maybe five years of age, and Merephel distinctly remembered the girl running out of the school in tears. There had been several incidents like that, and she'd gotten away with all of them. This one was different, however. The girl was the only other blonde in class, and Merephel had a flash of insight. It could have been her. She just as easily could have been on the receiving end of abuse from another student. She was just born lucky.

That was the incident that had started her down her path of redemption. She made a concerted effort to try and be kind to others. She struggled, often in vain, to see the good in everyone. It took her several months, and dozens of sleepless nights, but Merephel turned herself around.

Truthfully,' She thought to herself, 'In hindsight, I suppose I've haven't turned out too bad. Everyone seems to appreciate me, save perhaps for those who are far to wrapped up in their own misery. Shelyn bless him, he's had a rough life.'

Her thoughts then turned to her conversation with Father Prasst. He was asking her to look out for a different half-orc. Her friend, Korech, had started to find his way along the way walked by Erastil. Merpehel was never especially taken with Erastil, but he was the most widely worshipped deity in town. She was familiar enough to help.

Father Prasst was speaking, trying to convince Merephel to help guide Korech's spirituality. He should have known he needn't ask. She would be more than willing to help someone find the light, especially a dear friend.

"These are the Parables of Erastil. Read them to him and try to be a guide for him. I know you worship a different deity, but I don’t know anyone else who would be more appropriate for this. Good luck Merephel. Kassen will be significantly less beautiful without you, but you belong to the world and your companions. Go and keep them together even in the face of the worst odds."

His words drew her in, and she couldn’t help but laugh out loud. The surprised look on his face quickly calmed her laughing fit.

”Father, you should know that of course I would be willing to help. Of course I will. Korech is my dear friend, and I shall be honored to assist him. Thank you for all your guidance, and I can leave knowing Kassen is safe in your wisdom.”

She embraced him then, and ran out the door before he could see the tears welling up in eyes.

Stumbling over a rock brings her back to her senses, and the present.
”I will miss this place, but I feel it really is time to branch out. The Pathfinders don’t know what they’ve gotten themselves into!”

She smiled a wicked, mischievous smile, and began walking toward home, to finish packing.

”Look out Golarion. Merephel Angorat is leaving Kassen!”

Merephel noticed the bruise on Shirzon's head for the first time.

"Oh, dear! Let me use my magic to correct that. Save that potion for a time I can't get to you."

Merephel walks up to Shirzon, and murmured for a few moments. She gently pulled Shirzon's head down, and kissed the bruise. When her lips pulled away, the bruise was mostly healed.

Taking a small liberty with Shirzon, if that's ok. Healing her by converting the prepared Bless spell.

Yes, it is! Big holiday over here.

Merephel looks horrified.

"I do not control the undead! That...that is EVIL. No, I use the same power that lets me heal wounds, and it scares them away. They flee from Shelyn's Divine Radiance."

She thinks for a moment.

"Here, let me see if I can handle this."

Merephel walks up to the statue, and examines it. After a few moments, she gets a frustrated look on her face. She pulls out a torch, and gets halfway to lighting it. But, before she can light it, her face lights up instead. She chants a quick prayer, and her shield begins to glow.

Merephel casts Light on her shield.

Merephel's perpetual smile saddened.

"Oh, but I wish that were true. Unfortunately, so many get lost in the day-to-day of their lives, and before they know it, their whole life has come and gone. There certainly are those who desire to better themselves without being in love, I myself among them, but not everyone feels that way."

Her voice drifted off. When she resumed speaking, it was barely above a whisper, her voice haunted with remembered pain.

"Some just get lost, and let their anger rule them..."

When Grimscar approached her, Merephel stiffened in fear. She clutched Korech and Hrolf's arms in wide-eyed terror.

Once he had said muttered his thoughts, and been escorted out, she released their arms, and began weeping openly. She was grateful she didn't speak Orcish. She was positive she didn't want to know what he'd said.

EDIT: I was drinking water from a coffee mug when I read what you wrote, GM Giuseppe. I kid you not, I just spit water all over my work computer screen. Thankfully no one was in the room. I almost choked for laughing. Well done.

Merephel Angorat
Roycilo
Human
Cleric

I would like to present Merephel Angorat. I will continue to add to her backstory in the next couple of days, but other than a couple of items, she is about ready.

She is a follower of Shelyn. She is a young priestess, called to Shelyn at a young age, and is currently on track to be the town's first official priestess of Shelyn.

She is sort of the ultimate team player, with lots of powers that affect her allies in positive ways. Some buff spells, some healing, some social abilities. I have more backstory I'm working on; I'd love any input. I thought it might be fun, since we are dealing with “Classic” Pathfinder, to have her backstory be a sort of classic PC backstory.

A little about me as a player: I’ve been in play-by-post games off and on for years. I’ve run a few, including one by Doomed Hero, who I saw you mention earlier (He’s a very different GM for F2F games, let me tell you!). I love the idea of helping a few people new to PbP; that is a great way to pay it forward, so to speak. As for posting, I can do 2-3 a day on the weekends, but since I can (and do) get on the Paizo website at work, can basically post as much as needed Monday-Friday. So I made a talkative character to capitalize on that.

I would like to petition the Love Subdomain from the Advanced Player’s Guide; as it really helps bring the Shelyn element to the character. I’m less concerned with the power; it just fits nicely with the theme I’ve developed from the two chosen domains. That’s the only non-core thing I have on the sheet though, not to worry. Not a dealbreaker by any means; it just helps expand her a little. Will that work?

Background:
Spoiler:

Merephel was born in Kassen, to a pair of successful dairy farmers. From an early age had most of the local populace wrapped around her little finger. An adorable tyrant; she ran the schoolhouse with an iron will. She often pitted the children against one another for her favor. The boys blossomed into an early puberty under her stern gaze, and many a girl learned betrayal at the hands of a friend, all to get Merephel’s attention.

This continued until the year she turned 13.

In her 13th year, she started getting the attention of older men. They began treating her differently, and while many were still willing to do what she wanted, even for just a smile, some men became much more aggressive and mean. She didn’t understand why this was happening. It came to a head, one dark spring evening, when a man she didn’t recognize attacked her on her way home. He pulled her off the road, into a grove of trees beside the road. She knew what he was thinking, and what he intended to do. As he began to hit her, she called out for aid.

She was answered in the form of a passer-by, who heard her struggles. His names was Luchael, and he was a wandering minstrel. He saved the young girl in heroic fashion.

Picture this: A young, handsome man, carrying a lute, swooped in and saved the young woman from her would-be aggressor. It was a story out of a dream. Until a few hours later, when her beloved rescuer died from the poisoned dagger he’d been struck with.

Nonetheless, Merephel had learned the power of hope and love. She dedicated herself to Shelyn, and has been training to be the official wedding officiant for Kassen. She plans to help her mentor, Father Rantal Prasst, with various services, and will also divide her time helping around the family business.

She was no longer too good to milk cows, after all.

Personality:
Spoiler:

Merephel, growing up, was a prissy little girl. She thought she was going to be queen someday, and acted like the spoiled princess she thought she was. She used her charm to get what she wanted, and for the most part it worked. As she grew, she realized that her attitude wasn’t making her any friends. After the events of her Calling to the faith of Shelyn (See her background), she worked hard to become a kind, caring person. She genuinely turned herself around, and is now a wonderful young woman. She has infinite patience for children, and for adults who were like she used to be; spoiled rotten, pouty, or just plain rude. These days, her humility is showing. She believe a kind word goes a long way, and uses her not-inconsiderable powers of persuasion to get what she wants. Kind, expressive, and considerate, she believes in living life as well as one can, to the best of one’s abilities. She is a dreamer, and hopes to one day be able to write love stories to further Shelyn’s cause. She maintains a careful poise as a matter of fact.

Appearance:
Spoiler:

Merephel is a cute blond, young woman who will obviously grow into a gorgeous woman. Her face still retains the roundess of youth, and her piercing blue eyes are often her most telling feature. She is tall for a human woman, just under 6 feet tall. She has a runner’s build; all lean muscle. She moves with a grace that belies her age. Upon first meeting, she is often mistaken for being a bit younger than her actual age. After people speak with her for a few minutes, however, many are left with the opposite impression.
