About Anyborthelos SarinAnyborthelos Sarin, Elven Magus A little about me as a player: I’ve been in play-by-post games off and on for years. I’ve run a few and been in several. As for posting, I can do 2-3 a day on the weekends, but since I can (and do) get on the Paizo website at work, can basically post as much as needed Monday-Friday. So I made a character to capitalize on that. The weirdness won't be overpowering, but will definitely manifest in a few fun ways. Backstory:
Spoiler:
Anyborthelos grew up in a small village, on the edge of the elven territory near the Mordant Spire. It was comprised mostly of farmers and animal herders. There was a prosperous inn, a few hours away, bringing in people of all races from all over, stopping by on their travels to whatever lay beyond. As with most Mordant Spire elves, his parents were quite hostile toward any outsiders, but Anyborthelos loved them. As a child he would play in the inn, and pester travelers for stories of where they had been, sights they'd seen, and the lives they'd led. It wasn't often that they went, usually to sell a few farm goods, but it was always quite the event. The whole boat ride over Anyborthelos would make a mental list of all the questions about the outside world he'd be able to ask whoever was unfortunate enough to be nearby. On the way back, he'd replay the events in his mind, to further commit them to memory. He was always a strange child. He liked swordplay, pretending to be a warrior, and he loved reading. He loved climbing, and he loved learning. He never really fit in with the other children, as he was always of two worlds. Still, his future seemed bright, until his kidnapping. He had been taken by cultists of some evil being. He didn't quite know who, not at first. Truthfully, he doesn't remember much of his captivity. It's just seeing the bright, beautiful woman who came bursting in like a Goddess. The woman saved Anyborthelos, and brought him home to safety. He has carried a torch for the Queen ever since. He continued to train in swordplay, and eventually was brought under the wing of a local bladesman, Ramdon, an old, retired adventurer. He had traveled with a young elven woman of whom Anyborthelos reminded him, and he began to teach him how to use the various weapons in his collection. When he had taught Anyborthelos the basic use in all his possessions, he encouraged him to go and see one of the Queen's advisors. Said advisor, as it turns out, was in fact that same young woman, named Shalendras, all grown up. She took Anyborthelos as an apprentice, and helped him learn the arcane arts. He has grown up among these elves, very different from the ones in his homeland. His odd personality quirks have been tempered some, and he loves that the Queen is more open to trading with the outside world. Now, proficient in the blade, and studying the mystical arts, he was told he would learn his craft best by practice, they said, as they had decades ago. They told him to find trusted allies, right wrongs, and better himself. He intends to do all three. Facts About Anyborthelos: Spoiler:
Fact 1: He is a skilled swordsman, combining elven battle disciplines from several schools of training. He is best at using an opponent's momentum against them, and has a very flashy fighting style. Fact 2: Really comes out of his shell in a fight. He becomes quite a bit more talkative and charming. Fact 3: Is loyal to a fault, and desires true companionship. He can't stand the idea of someone being forced to live their life in a way other than the way they choose, and it has gotten him into trouble before. Fact 4: Hurt by words more than swords. Fact 5: Has an incredibly vivid, recurring nightmare involving him acting as some monstrous creature's slave handler. In the dream he is forced to beat the slaves, and then in turn be beaten by his master. Fact 6: He is related to one of the other PCs, though he may not know it. Fact 7: Something of a procrastinator, except with his magic, or when people are truly counting on him. If it isn't important, it can wait! Anyborthelos' Goals:
Spoiler:
As for goals I would like to see him accomplish, I actually have three. One is really quite far-fetched, but I am putting it in anyway.
Goal 1: First off, I'd love it if he was able to make a name for himself, as he will be a little bit of a stand-out personality. Goal 2: I plan to have him morph from a semi-antisocial weirdo to a normal, well-adjusted character as the game goes on. I think he will need a little help, maybe a push from the other PCs, or perhaps a wake-up call that his personality needs work. Goal 3: In doing research on the Queen, I discovered she is looking for a suiter. I know it is a little far-fetched, but I love the roleplay opportunities for a socially bizarre outsider elf winning her hand. Anyborthelos' Secrets:
Spoiler:
Kept to Himself: He is madly in love with the Queen. He dreams about her almost nightly, and is willing to do almost anything to win her favor, or to get her attention. It is bordering on fanatical, though so far he has managed to keep his obsession to himself. Kept from Him: The Mordant Spire elves aren't sure if he left voluntarily, or if he was taken. But they have been looking these past several years. They've recently discovered that he was rescued by the Queen, and rather than risk open war with such a vast military force, they've sent a stealthy group of soldiers to "reclaim" him. Kept from Him Number 2: The recurring nightmare he has is the not-quite-vanquished remnant of a vampire that enslaved several of Anyborthelos' ancestors. It has haunted his family for generations, but as he was taken from them at such a young age, he was never informed. In most members of the family it eventually fades and stops, but Anyborthelos, due to the stress of his life, is more susceptible. Not enough that the vampire's "ghost" can assert control, but perhaps enough to weaken his resolve. A powerful enough evil spellcaster could use the vampire's essence to restore it, should they so choose... Important NPCs:
Spoiler:
Ramdon, his former mentor. A retired adventurer, he trained Anyborthelos in the sword. Has converted to worship of Asmodeous in hie old age, lured by promises of wealth and an easy retirement.
Shalendras, his other mentor. She is currently an advisor to the Queen, and is an accomplished wizard. She taught Anyborthelos everything he knows about magic. Fanatically loayal to the Queen, she leads a secret group of Inquisitors dedicated to quietly "removing" threats to the Queen. She may try to recruit Anyborthelos when he comes into his own. Awenei, his younger sister. Just a babe when he was taken, she has grown up and left the nest. She has gone looking for her brother. Can be a member of the team sent for him, doesn't have to be. She is a multiclass Ranger/Cleric of Gozreh. Benvoyion, former bully who despises Anyborthelos. A complete asshat who has it out bad for Anyborthelos. He will go above and beyond to ruin Anyborthelos' day, and may even make attempts on his life. He works as a guard for the city, and abuses his authority to frustrate his rival. Chandrissa, an elf maiden who has a love/hate relationship with Anyborthelos. She is deeply in love with him, but acts like she hates him. Would die to get his attention, but Anyborthelos is absolutely convinced she would let him die before lifting a finger to help him. She is also a city guard, and often helps Benvoyion with his shenanigans against Anyborthelos. Statistics:

Spoiler:
Anyborthelos will be grabbing Dervish Dance fairly early on, and taking a few metamagic feats. I've been toying with the ones that raise/lower light levels, to play on his stealthier side. As for Magus Arcana, he'll be picking up Flamboyant arcana and Arcane Deed, to grab Precise Strike. He may take it to get other Swashbuckler Deeds, but not until much later on. In the meantime, he'll grab a few extra arcana as well. Also, Dodge and Mobility to further the movement-based fighting style he uses. Lastly, I'd like to ask that he can use a cutlass in lieu of a scimitar for feats and whatnot, since they are identical in cost, damage, weight, damage type, and are even both One-Handed Melee Weapons. Just for flavor, you know? I don't want to use the thinblade like everyone else.
