OK, if we have a Barb and a Warlock, a cleric would fit in nicely. Rolling for stats: Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 5, 1) = 13= 12
Guess I can work with that. I'll likely post up a character tonight.
Had some dramas in the real world that turned me off from pathfinder for a while, so I started playing other things. Friend recently got me into Adventure League at my FLGS, and I started running a Princes of the Apocalypse for him. Since I need my PC fix, I've been poking around trying to find some 5e games to play here.
This seems like a fun way to get back into PBP after some PFS burnout level: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Oy, a level 13 with 2580 gold... so yeah, this should be fun... EDIT: Think I'll go some kind of paladin who has spent way too much money tithing to his church to have bought himself fancy stuff....
I feel that they intentionally included the "a use of an attack of opportunity" instead of "as an immediate action" to reward a swashbuckler who takes combat reflexes. As such, it should also suffer from the same limitations as AoO's, such as not being able to use them when flatfooted or totally defensive. He's giving up an ability to make an AoO to do something else. If he doesn't have the ability to make AoO's, then he is essentially giving up nothing for something, which is just wrong for a basic class skill. Also, if they could go Total Defense, and still parry/riposte, it would be very similar to the old school Crane Style of increase defense->Negate attack-> hit back for damage, and we saw what happened to that.
Dotting for interest, Probably going to make a thug... err... rogue, since everyone seems to be on the ranger/barbarian front. Rolls: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5, 5) = 16 15
Solid array. I can probably have something up in the next day or two. I didn't see anything about alignments, are there restrictions? What about PvP. Not that I plan on getting into it, but when playing a backstabber, its good know if someone can actually stab it, lol. ACTUALLY: DM, check your PM's, I might like giving the priest a trial run.
M Human
Very weird. I tried posting something in the gameplay thread, and the post just vanished after I hit submit. I would probably just make a new game once you have your players and make this one inactive. It DID show up in my campaigns tab, as if I had succeeded in posting something. If I do not get accepting into the game, please move me from the active players :D
I'll be reusing an alias (Seraphyna Bell) from a past game, and she's getting a complete mechanical overhaul as she will be a Sorcerer, not an Oracle, but the personality will remain relatively intact. Writing Sample/past introduction: Seraphyna, or Sera as she is known to many of her friends, wakes with a stretch and a sigh. She had stayed in a field, preferring the open air and view of the night sky to a raucous and smelly tavern. Packing up her small campsite before she is found out by the fields owner, she takes a moment to stretch and ensure her new armor doesn't impede her too much. The leather armor, still fairly new from the armorer, was one of the few good ideas Sera had gotten while her mother railed at her about how she'd be split by a human's sword, eaten by a pack of wolves, fall off a mountain and be crushed by boulders, or a dozen other things. Picking up a small stone, she drops it, only to have it flung some 10 feet away. "Good morning to you as well" she says to no one, "I'd ask if you slept well, but I think we both know that answer." As if to answer her, a breeze comes from no where and sends her long hair billowing. Finally ready, Sera continues on her trek, coming to a small inn about to begin her day. The smells of roasted meat fill her nostrils and the rumble in her stomach remind her that hard tack is not a good meal, and it was early enough to avoid many of the more rowdy customers, so she decides to risk entry into the inn. Quietly entering the inn, she does her best not to disturb the youth engrossed in his book, and a giggle escapes her lips as the dogs play with each other, much to their owners dismay. At the sight of another elf, Sera's face goes white, and she dashes to a seat that she hopes will hide her from view, Oh heavens, father must have already sent people out to look for me. Stupid Sera, this is the closest settlement, of course he'd think this would be my first stop. she thinks. She is so completely engrossed in thought she completely misses the serving girl approach and ask her three times what she wanted to eat. "Oh, I'll have whatever the cook is making this morning and an empty mug." she says.
GM: How rigid are you on the 5 PM cut off? I ask because I have the character made, but between the Easter Holiday and work, I haven't been able to put as much effort into the backstory as I'd like, and will be at work till 6 pm, EST I would understand if you don't want to allow me an exception, you have plenty of other applicants, but it never hurts to ask, right? :)
I read over much of the RotRL thread, and while I can't say I'm a huge fan of spoilering all the dice rolls, it does make the story flow a bit better from a reading stand point. If I get chosen, it may take some getting used to, but I think I can make it work :D That said, I'm currently working on a Halfling Seeker Sorcerer to fill both the arcane roll, and add in some rogueish bits in case one doesn't get picked (since none seem to have been put forth yet) I'll have crunch/fluff up tonight/tomorrow. A bit about me: I’ve been playing games of this type for about 20 years, and have been playing on the Paizo site for about 10 months. In that time I’ve nearly reached 5000 posts, so that should tell you the kind of activity I have. I’ll admit I don’t write a book for every post, sometimes simple posts are what’s needed, but I never write a “Bob swings his sword” type of post.
Interesting... Its rare to see someone pop back after a few year hiatus. I'm interested in the game, obviously. Can you explain more about what you mean when you say we will use spoilers for posting actions? Will the entire post be in spoilers? Just any dice rolling? I find too many spoilers ruin a game, and when 98% of the time the PC involved regurgitate what was in the spoiler in their next post, have taken to just leaving everything out in the open, similar to how I would do it at a table. As far as PC, I may try my hand at an arcane class. I play a number of divinely bent classes, and while this AP SCREAMS for a holy warrior, I think it would be fun for someone else to take up that mantle.
I usually play Neutral/Chaotic good, since they are very similar in my eyes. It makes it easy for plot hooks and promotes a nice team attitude and game. My favorite to play is Lawful Evil, because that's my inherant nature and its fun to let it out. People don't like my version of evil, because its the suck the fun out, I can't belive you just did that game ruining type. Thinking about it, it's kind of odd that my favorite villain is the Joker. I guess some shred of humanity in me still wants to have an out by pointing to the laws and process when I do bad things, so I can deflect the blame.
No worries, just debating over: Paladin 2: high saves, best HP, more consistant damage; lowest healing and virtually no support ability. Paladin1/Oracle 1: middle of the road, solid all around; but delays me getting into the sweet spot of either class longer Oracle 2: best support with channels/wands; lowest damage and saves
Debating making a character for this one, since my last RotRL failed. I can vouch for Karl's ability to play evil without disrupting the general flow of the game, and in our game together, it was an interesting back and forth between him and the "good" guys. GM: Are you looking more for fluff, crunch, or both? I tend not to make aliases until the character has been accepted, which makes posting crunch a bit more difficult.
Perhaps I'm being a jerk, but making a build that violates rules of the original post, and then arguing for your build to be legit with rules changes later is poor form to say the least. I think CRB +1 other book is fine. You want to play a class from the APG, OK, that's your extra choice. Its not like you don't know the rules when you chose the class. I will point out, the purpose of this game isn't to make the most asinine roflstomp build out there. There was an arena a few months back that failed because a few of us made normal characters and got blown apart by the OMGWTFBBQ uber builds of some others. It became unfun and quickly died. A concern of mine is what happens when only 2 people put in builds for the lvl 1 bracket? Do they fight monsters? Who would run them? I'm interested in the game, but want to see how a few things would be handled before I work on a character for the lower levels. Combat at 20 is silly.
Oh, I have no issue with multiclassing, and many themed characters require it. I just have a huge pet peeve of characters that require and entire sheet of paper to write down their 7 different classes, all with Archetypes. Those types of characters always seem to be the targets of the super nasty insta-gib effects.
Background is done, yay! Seraphyna:
Seraphyna was born to the elves of Glamowynn in the Grunwald. Like all elves, she enjoyed playing tricks and enjoying life, though sometimes, life plays tricks on you. Seraphyna was out collecting skunk cabbage and other herbs when she heard a roar in the distance. Investigating, she found a bear cub caught in a hunters trap. Feeling sorry for the poor thing, she released the cub and used some of the herbs she gathered to ensure the wound stayed clean. After the cub scampered off, she made the mistake of staying nearby. When the hunters returned and found the trap sprung but their quarry freed, they tracked down the small elf to repay her kindness. They beat Seraphyna with clubs, boots, and fists, nearly killing her. However, our story has a happier ending, for as they brought Seraphyna within an inch of death, the cub returned with its mother. The fight that ensued is one she can barely remember, drifting on the edge of consciousness, but when she awoke a few hours later, all the hunters were dead, and so was the mother bear. Following a trail of blood, she found the baby wounded with a nasty arrow wound, and bleeding out near a pool. Knowing there was no way to save the baby; she took a nearby rock and ended its misery.
Seraphyna lost much of her joy and innocence that day, witnessing and even causing death. She focused on her healing arts more and more and even began trying some of the magics of the forest and sky. One night, while watching a shooting star, Seraphyna made a wish, that she would have been able to save the baby bear. Suddenly, the star’s light did more than just shoot across the sky, it struck a spark within her, connecting the links that imbue those select few with magical skill. I also placed upon her a terrible curse. She would be able to heal the wounded, but also see those that had passed, and they would know she can see them. She returned to the site of that horrific day, and found the two bears together and content in the afterlife, which made her happy. The hunters were bound in chains, legs trapped in ghostly clamps, echoing the strife they caused. Now, Seraphyna has grown, and the dead are restless. They speak of a coming storm that threatens all three of the goodly races on Louwilder, but none of the elders believe her, and so she must do what she must do, fleeing the safety of her woodland home to try and stop the coming troubles. Perhaps she will find allies, fate is fickle like that. I will make an alias and post crunch if selected. She's a pretty basic oracle of heavens, bow user, knows CLW. Nothing too fancy.
And this is why I rarely multiclass. Pathfinder has a dozen ways to make the same type of character, and I'd get lost in the nuances of trying to min/max. It's much simplier to just pick a class and go! The fun is in the RP anyway, and not using a spreadsheet calculation to do .25 more DPR. Have you thought about pure archer bard? Feats at 1, 3, 6 would get you your pre-reqs, and you'd have a lot of skills and utility. Sign in to create or edit a product review. |
