Background is done, yay!

Seraphyna:
Seraphyna was born to the elves of Glamowynn in the Grunwald. Like all elves, she enjoyed playing tricks and enjoying life, though sometimes, life plays tricks on you. Seraphyna was out collecting skunk cabbage and other herbs when she heard a roar in the distance. Investigating, she found a bear cub caught in a hunters trap. Feeling sorry for the poor thing, she released the cub and used some of the herbs she gathered to ensure the wound stayed clean. After the cub scampered off, she made the mistake of staying nearby. When the hunters returned and found the trap sprung but their quarry freed, they tracked down the small elf to repay her kindness. They beat Seraphyna with clubs, boots, and fists, nearly killing her. However, our story has a happier ending, for as they brought Seraphyna within an inch of death, the cub returned with its mother. The fight that ensued is one she can barely remember, drifting on the edge of consciousness, but when she awoke a few hours later, all the hunters were dead, and so was the mother bear. Following a trail of blood, she found the baby wounded with a nasty arrow wound, and bleeding out near a pool. Knowing there was no way to save the baby; she took a nearby rock and ended its misery.

Seraphyna lost much of her joy and innocence that day, witnessing and even causing death. She focused on her healing arts more and more and even began trying some of the magics of the forest and sky. One night, while watching a shooting star, Seraphyna made a wish, that she would have been able to save the baby bear. Suddenly, the star’s light did more than just shoot across the sky, it struck a spark within her, connecting the links that imbue those select few with magical skill. I also placed upon her a terrible curse. She would be able to heal the wounded, but also see those that had passed, and they would know she can see them. She returned to the site of that horrific day, and found the two bears together and content in the afterlife, which made her happy. The hunters were bound in chains, legs trapped in ghostly clamps, echoing the strife they caused.

Now, Seraphyna has grown, and the dead are restless. They speak of a coming storm that threatens all three of the goodly races on Louwilder, but none of the elders believe her, and so she must do what she must do, fleeing the safety of her woodland home to try and stop the coming troubles. Perhaps she will find allies, fate is fickle like that.

I will make an alias and post crunch if selected. She's a pretty basic oracle of heavens, bow user, knows CLW. Nothing too fancy.

*sneaks into thread to post interest a leeeeetle bit late to the party.* If you still have room for more potential recruits, that is. Will try to have a concept up tomorrow or so.

Liberty's Edge

My progression will be "classic" Magus, Improve damage and survivability. But I'll be starting with a dip in Fighter. Will be changing my crunch soon to match.

And how about deity-dependent traits ? It would be nice if I was allowed to refluff one of Saranrae's to this game.

@Mezegis: very nice character. I hope we both get picked.

Thanks.

I'd be fine with working out backstories together if we're picked.

Derek, do you want the crunch posted, or does it not really matter?

The Exchange

I have decided to go with option 3, partly because becoming a magus unnecessarily complicates things, but mostly for the superior spellcasting.

While Mithroon has a strong will to become a Ranger, its the soldier type defender of the dwarves, not the class. So having learned the art of crossbowing with magic he will probably stay the course as a Transmuter. No guarantees tho, I have been known to dip a level into rogue for no other reason than that I like the rogue class....My worst offense was a 2nd edition Wizard 11/ranger2/cleric1. was a lot of fun but VERY squishy...

Oh, I have no issue with multiclassing, and many themed characters require it. I just have a huge pet peeve of characters that require and entire sheet of paper to write down their 7 different classes, all with Archetypes. Those types of characters always seem to be the targets of the super nasty insta-gib effects.

Can I do a Psionic class? I've been meaning to try out the Cryptic Brutal Disruptor archetype. I'll be an Elf.

@Orelius - Sorry, no psionics in this one. Definitely some neat stuff out there, but I couldn't fit it into the theme of the setting like I'd want to.

So I have completed submissions (meaning at least a good backstory and outline) for the following:

Roarke Stonebeard, dwarf druid
Tomm Odelle. human huntmaster cavalier
Rizzo, human free-hand fighter
Jack Smith, human rogue
Mithroon Boolt, dwarf wizard (Transmuter)
Tessara, magicky bow-elf (JK!)
Berion Silverhand, elf magus
Caelin Ferrier, human wizard (Conjurer)
Seraphyna, elf oracle

Did I miss anyone? I will take new submissions for another day, then start working on a final group.

Eh, I guess I won't join, then.

Bleh, nothing's quite coming together for me. Have fun! *sneaks out of thread*

Liberty's Edge

Good luck everyone!

So I'm trying to break things down by "role". I know this is a dirty word among some players, but I just want to make sure we have certain mechanical aspects covered.

Melee Combatants
Tomm - do you get one dog or two? Is the second actually "there" or just flavor?
Roarke - not sure for you, but many druids endup wildshaping and using natural attacks - was this your plan?
Rizzo
Berion

Skills/Ranged Combat?
Jack Smith
Tessara - ?

Divine casting
Seraphyna

Arcane casting
Mithroon
Tessara - or more of a ranged combatant?
Caelin

The Exchange

Tessara will be (from level 2 onwards) casting as a wizard of 1-3 levels underneath her actual level, but most of her feats and spell will be directed towards combat. It doesn't matter to me where you put her since you are already aware of her dual talents :)

I purchased another hunting dog, Quinn, which as soon as I get another level I'll make her a legitimate animal companion. For my first level though I do plan on using her as just flavor.

I could qualify for ranged or skills as well, depending in what fighter archetype I take ;).

I could almost make an argument for Rizzo being skilled, but only planning a one level dip into Rogue and Fighters only get 2 SP per level. So I'm happy with being relegated to the Melee Table.

Okay, I decided to completely rewrite my background as I wasn't happy with it. In fact, it's almost completely reversed. :) However the mechanics stay the same. Everything is on my profile now for you to peruse.

In terms of future development... uh, wizard wizard wizard? Lots of crafting feats!

Ok, so you're no doubt wondering whre the heck I've been over the last few days. I have wrestled with deciding who to pick time and time again. I have settled on a final group. Please know that I turly enjoyed each of your submissions. If I thought I coul din any way manage two groups or a group of more than six players, I would absolutely make room for everyone. I just know my own limitations, and I REALLY want this game to be a a quality experience for everyone. So here is my list:

Tomm Odelle
Rizzo
Berion Silverhand
Tessara
Seraphyna
Caelin Ferrier

Again, thanks you everyone for your interest. This selected, please dot in the gaemplay thread. I'l get u started once everyone's checked in. Just in case any of those selected opt out, I may PM other applicants to see if they still woul dlike to join. My goal is to get going by Monday at the latest.

Completely understandable. Good luck all. See ya in the other game Derek.

Liberty's Edge

Its always a bit disheartening not to get chosen for a game...I always wonder what was not good enough...anyway, best of luck and have fun!

Hey guys, it's really not a matter of "good enough" or "not good enough". I definitely had a hard time with this one. So far, only two folks have checked into gameplay. If someone dropped off, I'd only be too happy to welcome anyone else to fill the spot.
