I could see doing that if one of the players just doesn't have one. But the druid class deck is shall we say underpowered compared to newer decks. The party as a whole would be better of with the second copy of an ult deck even if there is a risk of doubling up on a few cards.

That being said, This won't work unless all 6 players stick through to the very end. And while it has only been a couple of days, No one has expressed any interest.

This is probably just a pipe dream.

This sounds like a really fun idea but I'm in three games atm and work is getting very busy. I want to do this cuz it sounds like fun but I'm overextended atm.

I'd love to see less black borders too. Its hard on toner usage when you are printing alot.

Ah. The new wording says "If the level of the Core or Curse card is higher than your tier, you can’t replace that card until you’re allowed to put cards of that level into your deck." So yes, you can do that. If you think it needs to be clearer still, please suggest a wording. (However, please note that I can't add more than a few words to that column without causing a minor cascade of text flow issues.)

You cannot use a Core/Curse card as a replacement until your tier is equal to or higher than the level of that card. For example when starting at Tier 1 you can take replacement cards of levels 0 or 1.

Would that be too long? If it is perhaps instead it could just be left as written and include an core/curse replacement card in the example? I think that would clear things up pretty handily if there is room for it in the column/page.

I'm not completely sure what you mean here... but I see the Core/Curse replacement rules say you may swap cards "in between scenarios." Are you suggesting that some people think that means they have to finish their first scenario before that kicks in? If so, that's not the intent; we just don't want people swapping cards during play. (And really, that's true for all of the deck adjustments allowed by that section of the Guide.) Will adjust.

If you meant something else, can you be specific?

The question that I think was being asked (because I've seen the question asked on multiple tables) is whether you can really "cheat" in level 1 Core/Curse cards into your starting deck because their pre-Core equivalent is Basic.

A great example of this is the Standard Bearer ally, but it's not the only example. A lot of players seem to find it unintuitive - or think that they're somehow cheating - if they replace a basic pre-Core card with a Level 1 post-Core card in their very starting deck.

(It seems clear to me that, yes, you can replace your starting cards with any same-named level 0 or 1 Core/Curse boon immediately, incidentally. If a card is in your deck when you replace it, then the replacement card also ends up in your deck.)

Yewstance stated what I meant. I've played a couple PbP games now where it was interpreted that we could switch out for level 0 boons but not level 1 boons until we have completed the first scenario. Standard Bearer is usually the one we can't take until we have played one scenario.

I agree that it would be a little easier when teaching new people but we have been teaching them about B,C,P and basic since the game came out so I personally don't think it makes much difference. I agree with Keith as well that changing this would make us start stronger with fewer upgrades. There are also a number of cards in the class decks that would probably end up "dead" as no one would want to take them unless required to as well. As it currently is, I still feel excited to get a 0 card upgrade my first few sessions. Not as excited as a 1 of course, but it doesn't feel like we won nothing if we only got 0s for the first couple of games.

For Guide 6.2 can there be some clarification on whether or not you can replace a B basic card with a Core/Curse 1 card for the first scenario? There has been some question/confusion on that.

Nah, SotR characters are fine. At least as far as the impact of this reward goes. It's mostly just "some day a couple stats you don't really use gets a +1" (cause you max out your actually used stats)

I like to play jack-of-all-trades characters and DON'T max out a couple stats. I like to spread the skill points around. I don't think it can be assumed that stats a character doesn't use alot would be the only ones affected....

Has the Season of the Righteous reward for Adventure 2 been addressed yet or will it be addressed in guide 6.2? Sorry for bothering on it but my husband and I wanted to play it and see if we can beat it with the new rules for fun. =)

Spoiler:
Each character gains skill feats corresponding to all medals gained on the troop Knights of Kenabres (as noted on your Chronicle sheet).

These rules from page 6 of the Guide still apply: "In Adventure Card Society play, you are not required to play through specific scenarios in order... Your character can play any scenario whose # is within 1 of that character’s current tier."

To be clear, you can mix-and-match sanctioned scenarios with standard PACS scenarios too.

I missed that. Thanks Vic!

Ok so I'm getting ready to run this in person next week for organized play. I noticed soemthing odd though. Typically PACS scenarios may be played in any order but Dragon's Demand (and CotCT) dictate the order in which scenarios should be played. I figured it would be addressed in the sanctioning document but I can't find it.

Do Dragon's Demand (and CotCT) scenarios have to be played in the order listed for organized play?

Woot! Radovan it is then. =) Lini is my favorite character but I really like the thematic idea of the character doing season 5 doing the special as the name makes them sound related.

Hi everyone,

So I got tired of writing down my deck list on a plain sheet of paper along with my wishlist of deck list upgrades so I made a pretty template to go with my paperwork. Not sure if anyone else would like it but here it is. The top has room to list which deck(s) you are using. The Deck list section has slightly more lines than the maximum I counted on my cards. The Upgrade List is where I like to write down what cards I want to upgrade with.

Deck List Template

Hi there, super excited to play this! I'm not 100% sure Lini is going to play this. It could be Radovan instead depending on how far I get at my in-person game with Radovan so I won't be doing a character introduction until I know for sure which character I'm playing. Radovan would be more thematically appropriate for me since he is doing season 5 right now but he's already tier 6 and may end up tiering out before the special. ;)

I'm cool with Discord or Google Hangouts as well.

Yep I think that would indeed fix it.

1/5

Good question. I did just convert but that was mostly due to wanting to walk through the exercise. I haven't played this character in over 4 years.... Not sure how many folks have old season 0 characters they haven't played since season 0 that are actually planning to play with those characters again.

Spoiler:

During This Scenario: WBH-1B: Chicken Run
Danger: Blasted Chicken
Villain: None
Henchmen: None
This scenario has two acts, Act 1 and Act 2. In both acts, you may not move on your move step. After you defeat a bane or acquire a boon, you may move. When you move, you may move only to an adjacent location.
Act 1: When Shiny Longshanks is defeated, display the story bane Blasted Chicken next to the scenario. At the end of the turn, if Shiny Longshanks was defeated using a combat check, display the Proxy A at the rightmost location; otherwise banish it and display Proxy B at the rightmost location. Then begin Act 2.
Act 2: At the start of your turn, each character must succeed at a Constitution, Fortitude, Stealth, or Survival 5 check or suffer the scourge Entangled. Then if a Proxy A is displayed at your location, suffer 1 Combat damage; if Proxy B is displayed at your location, add 1 to your checks against banes this turn. Then display the proxy at the rightmost occupied location.
After a character encounters a non-summoned bane, any number of other characters may summon and encounter it.
In the reset step of any turn in which you did not move, you may reset and remove 1 of your scourges.
When the proxy is displayed at the leftmost location, you win.

Ok so question on the part that says: In the reset step of any turn in which you did not move, you may reset and remove 1 of your scourges.

So this means I can reset and remove the entangled scourge on someone else's turn, right?

And finally, I'd like to double check resetting for this as I think our in-person gaming group has been doing this wrong for years....

If I reset on someone else's turn per above instructions, does that mean the entire Reset step? Ie discard down to hand size or (optionally more) then draw back up?

Awesome thanks you two. I'm a bit tired from a convention last weekend and wasn't sure if I was just not reading this right hehe. Hopefully this can be fixed in the next version of the guide. :)

So I got curious how Appendix 4 in the 6.0 PACS guide worked so I got out an old season 0 character that hasn't been converted to the tier system (due to not having played it since 2014). Here is what happened:

My character Tarlin completed 0-1A thru 0-1D and 0-1F. Tarlin had one skill feat (+1 Con) and 1 power feat (+1 hand size).

So going in order according to Appendix 4:

Spoiler:
If you completed more than one scenario, do the
following.
• Note which skill, power, and card feats you took. Then
uncheck those feats.
• Determine your tier: It matches is the # of the highest
adventure in which you have completed at least two
different scenarios. For example, if you have completed 2
different scenarios in Adventure 4, but not in Adventures
5 or 6, your character is Tier 4.
• Determine the number of experience points (XP) you
have by counting the number of different scenarios you
have completed within your tier. For example, if your
Tier 4 character has completed 2 different Adventure 4
scenarios, you have 2 XP. If you have at least 3 XP, you
may spend them all to advance to the next tier. If you
have at least 6 XP, you must spend them all to advance to
the next tier.
• If your character is Tier 4 or higher, select a role. (If your
character had already selected a role, keep that role.)
• Gain a number of skill feats, power feats, and card feats
each equal to your tier minus 1. For example, if you are
in Tier 3, gain 2 skill feats, 2 power feats, and 2 card
feats. Until you have chosen all of the feats that your
character took before, you may choose only feats that
your character took before. The first two power feats
must be chosen from your character card; additional
feats may be chosen from your role.
• If you completed more than 3 scenarios in any adventures,
get a hero point for each one beyond the third.
• If your character’s deck includes any cards of a level
higher than your tier, replace each with a card of the
same type that has a level equal to or less than your
current tier.

Notated the skill and power feat.
Determined my tier. Since this character has only completed scenarios in Adventure 1 , this character is tier 1.
Determine my xp: Since my character completed 5 adventures, it has 5xp. I can choose to advance to tier two if I wish.
Gain skill/power/card feats: Tarlin is tier 1. 1 minus 1 is zero. Therefore no skill, power, or card feats are gained.
Hero points: My character completed five scenarios so has two hero points.

So if Tarlin stays at tier 1 the character goes from 2 feats to 0 but ends up with 2 hero points (which presumably cannot be spent on feats) and 5 xp. This means I would need to complete 1 more scenario at tier 1 and five scenarios at tier 2 before advancing to tier 3 in order to catch up with my feats. This seems contrary to the example given if you have only completed 1 scenario.

Spoiler:
If you completed only one scenario, conversion is easy:
Your character is in Tier 1. If you have not already gained a
feat, you get a hero point, and you may immediately spend
it to gain a feat. You also get 1 experience point (XP). No
further changes are needed.

I think the intent here would be for Tarlin to have 1 skill, power, and card feat as well as 2 hero points at the end of conversion. Especially as if I choose to advance Tarlin to tier 2 by spending his xp he would indeed have all 3 feats and 2 hero points.

Am I missing something here?

Thank you Rhynn. I think I'm going to try to get a little more used to PbP first before I tackle box running. That said if there is a ton of need (ie too much demand and not enough BR) I'm willing to help out if needed.

What all goes into being a BR for PbP? I'm regularly a BR for in person games but I imagine it's more involved for a PbP game.

This is awesome Yewstance, thank you to you and everyone else who contributed on this project!

Hero Point: card feat - weapon putting my nine-ring sword back in my deck
Card reward: Item 1 Tankard to Staff of Minor Healing
(Shhh don't tell Valeros that they lost their tankard in the siege.)

Ok so I thought I had this figured out in a PbP game I'm in but then more weirdness about this card came up in a home game tonight so I'm very confused and hoping you all can un-confuse me.

My husband and I started playing Dragon's Demand tonight. I'm playing Skull and Shackles Lem (cuz he's almost as awesome as Lini) and my husband is playing Fumbus. We added the alchemist's deck to the set to give him even more fun cards to play with. I managed to acquire an Alchemist's Fire and ended up needing to use it on a Bandit almost immediately. I discarded my Troubadour to add my craft skill. Here is where we get confused.

The conversion guide says:

Spoiler:
If an item has a check to recharge, change its cost to “Banish” and change any recharge powers to “DURING RECOVERY (If proficient,) you may succeed at a (whatever check is required) to recharge this card.” If it was intended to be have another cost if not recharged, such as discard or bury, it should be “(Do whatever is intended to) this card; (if proficient,) you may succeed at (whatever check is required) to (do the other thing) instead.”

During my PbP earlier today I was told that the discarded card goes into recovery. Since I'm playing Damiel in that game, the Alchemist's Fire also goes into recovery and then is auto recharged thanks to Damiel's power.

Lem doesn't have any such shenanigans though so we got confused. (It wouldn't have been confusing if Fumbus had used it instead after I handed it to him next turn like we had planned but oh no, I had to explore just one more time.... Oh well.)

So with Lem, do both the Troubadour and the Alchemist's Fire still go into recovery? Does the Alchemist's Fire now have a way to recover it or is it still auto-banished in recovery then? Help us please oh wise ones on the Paizo forums!

Greetings everyone. I'm Katlyn99 and I will be playing Damiel (S&S) with the UE deck added on. I haven't played any PBP before. Went a little crazy and signed up for three tables for this convention though.
I've played PACG since it first came out and PACS since it launched. Even so, I still manage to forget things or confuse rules so please let me know if I make a mistake. :) I've been a BR at many many local games. I am in Idaho (MDT) and work from home so I should be able to post pretty regularly during the weekdays. Weekends vary though I will be able to post at lest once a day.

I've used Discord for years for video games.

Using the following Core cards in my starting deck:
Mace, Longsword, Chain Mail, Crowbar.

Thinking that free booze is better than purchased booze, Valeros searches the cupboards of the abandoned Farmhouse. No alcohol in this cupboard but they do find a Tome of Knowledge.

Tome of Knowledge Int 5: 1d4 ⇒ 2 Fail

Unable to decipher the dusty book and being more interested in (hopefully) whiskey instead, Valeros tosses it over their shoulder and decides to keep looking.

Discard Blessing of the Gods (2)

Ooh a Treasure Map!

Treasure Map Wis 6: 1d6 ⇒ 2 Fail. Chose to Banish the barrier.

Valeros studies it for a few minutes until they realize that it's just a child's drawing. Disgusted, they throw it out the window. Thinking that they could use help ransacking...err organizing the Farmhouse, Valeros calls for his Standard Bearer to help look.

Discard Standard Bearer
The Standard Bearer opens the cupboard under the sink. No booze under here but he did manage to surprise a Goblin Cutpurse who was taking a nap there. Valeros immediately jumps to their friend's aid, swinging their Longsword heroicly.
Before the encounter Wis 6: 1d6 ⇒ 3Fail. Buried Longsword.
The Goblin Cutpurse manages to trip and steal Valeros' sword. Not to be outdone by a mere goblin, Valeros draws their Wakizashi from it's sheath and slashes at the goblin.

Revealing my Wakizashi for my combat check.
Goblin Cutpurse Combat 8: 1d10 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (10) + (6) + 2 = 18 Success.
Thirsty and annoyed that the Goblin managed to damage their longsword during the fight, Valeros decides to rest for a bit.

Looking forward to trying this out. Will probably play ROTR Lini but haven't finished deciding yet. Still need to take a picture of my plethora of cards for proof of ownership too. ;)
