While I like my item, and it is certainly better than last year's entry, I do see now that it falls below superstar quality. If I make it even CLOSE to the top 32 I shall be pleasantly surprised.

naive question: a helm is armour, correct?

Player: I want to invoke this item.
GM: ok how?

GM: No I mean in what manner?
Player: I don't know . . . Saucily? No, timorously. No, I mean--

Ah, the unmistakable scent of alraune . . . well, similar to it anyway.

Smell that? You smell that? Brimstone, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of brimstone in the morning. Smells like . . . victory.

I wonder how many locks there are in the world, and how the GM would like to announce each one? e.g. walking through a city?

If your item will cause 20-minute arguments between the GM and player (and possibly fisticuffs), I'm downvoting it.

A joke item that's actually funny, interesting, and useful.

I love it when bizarre, funny, or anachronistic items work out (to be used in moderation). I don't consider those to be "jokes." For me, a joke item is one that is just a deliberate waste of a submission.

This item is made of a material so rare that it can only be found in one place; you can't even find it in the requirements.

This may be a naive question, but do many sessions really stop for an hour or so, so a character can have a dream?

What if the item relies on a celestial body that does not exist in relation to whatever body your character happens to be on at the time?

Player: How important is it that this requirement be fulfilled? I mean, just an ordinary amount of importance? Or something more?
GM: Ha! Did you think I would say it would be of less than ordinary importance? No way. It is extraordinarily important.

Huh, so this does nothing, oh wait, re-roll anything, anytime.

Player: Is this item seen commonly?
GM: Oh yes, oft. If anything is seen oft, it's this thing.

Realizing now that my item has a fatal flaw. Oh well it's been fun!

GM: You hear the unmistakable sound of [x]
Player: Is it possible that I am, in fact, mistaken?
GM: No. Unmistakable.

The word "the" misspelled.

Battling cliches, "more often than not" vs "all intents and purposes"

Again, always avoid alliteration and all assonance.
