Actually, it could have any number of random effects. Let us not give in to d6 bigotry here! ;)

Ooo... that gives me an idea for the Banner of Foretelling that autoflies itself upside down when the party is in imminent danger of TPK!

In our gaming groups we joke about the Neon Sign of Near Death -- we have the tremendous, oddly frequent luck of knocking a big bad down to 1-2 hp (i.e., if the PC had only done one more point of damage, the fight would be over. This frequently happens just before the monster's turn so that, since it is still standing, it can still heal itself or kill someone before it falls). We've come to note when such a thing happens by saying the Neon Sign has lit above the creature's head.

It would actually be kind of amusing to stat that out into an item.

Why stop there? Why not have a divine Herald of whatever god is responsible for death who is nothing more than a very small pinpoint of red light that dances around characters in danger of death, until it comes to rest on the doom PC... Ah, Red Bead of Pharasma, how many times my party members have pointed thee out on my forehead, just before I was critted into oblivion...

Oh double-spaced item that is hard to understand and grossly overpowered for cost, you make me vote for creepy, but not very interesting item. so sad.

This happens so frequently to our group that we've named it after a player. This is known as "Dave-ing" the enemy.

I am so in love with the inordinate number of foot wear that activate by stomping your foot like a petulant child. I am sorry to anyone on this thread that might have written one of these, if yours was the only one, it might have been cool.

I'm back, I have my coffee, and I'm ready to tally up some more votes.

Ferro, I have to say that the owner of that glove is probably pleased. If the worst thing you had to complain about is a convention that Paizo started, then they should be breathing a sigh of relief. You're almost as hard on these items as I am.

I just voted for an item with a really narrow field of usefulness because it was really well written and I'd be interested in seeing what else the writer could do. I also have to say though, that I think they've watched entirely too many Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Also, Groetus, could you see your way clear to maybe devouring all these sickos who feel the need to wear mummified (or worse - fresh) body parts? It's not cool, and it makes the rest of us uncomfortable. Thanks G. See you soon.

Apparently, we players have a hard time with Diplomacy checks. How many items of that sort are there?

Wow, it's not only a spell in a can, but also a "I negate your effect and throw it back at you."

I love it when bizarre, funny, or anachronistic items work out (to be used in moderation). I don't consider those to be "jokes." For me, a joke item is one that is just a deliberate waste of a submission.

With so many items tied to drinking I'm happy to say found one that could actually be used to gain an advantage against the drinker - something people actually do in the real world...

No, that one I would have referenced Wile E. Coyote. This is a different item entirely that reminded me of one of my favorite Bugs Bunny bits.

If your item will cause 20-minute arguments between the GM and player (and possibly fisticuffs), I'm downvoting it.

We had a guy in our gaming group for three months that made the most useless rogue we had ever laid eyes on. The only job we counted on him for was planting a magical banner we acquired early on.

It depends on the players and the GM. Some GMs will target them; some ignore them altogether. Some players don't like to spend the standard action/full round action required to gain the benefits.

DnD 4E lent itself to banners fairly well. I had two PCs with banners when I was playing in LFR

Are you there Groetus? It's me, Quibblemuch. A lot of these items seem like they would require spreadsheets of byzantine intricacy to track their daily uses and the conditions under which one might use them. Now I'm as much of a fan of the overly complicated spreadsheet as your next worshipper, but it does slow things down at the table. Could you maybe devour them too? Thanks, Groetus, you're the best.

A fair point. But a lot of these magic items seem to be the equivalent of a bologna dress - I mean, how are you going to keep the dire rats from nibbling on that mummified spleen scarf that occupies the neck slot and grants a bonus on saves against anger enchantments (not a real item, as plausible as it sounds).
