Looking to build an oracle to 18th level (starting at 1st on New Year's Eve 2019). I've estimated the purchases and choices of the first 7 levels.

Low levels will be using dancing lantern spell with eclipsing spell on a candle lamp to get dim or darkness on my square without impacting allies vision too much. Gaining shadow blending at 7th for 50% concealment.
Mid levels will be buffing and life link healing, diplomacy, Gift of Madness.
High levels will be constant overland flight, black tentacles, debilitating portent, freedom of movement, greater magic weapons, healing flame, boneshatter, breath of life, fabricate and feeblemind.
Very high levels (13+) wil be eaglesoul, 1/day 12 hour +2 sacred bonus on attacks and will saves plus one teamwork feat you don't have to all your allies (probably Passing Grace for shared healing).

While working on another game system, it occurred to me that level by level advancement doesn’t seem to matter in Starfinder like it does in Pathfinder?

In Pathfinder, we need to track HP and favored class bonuses by level. Neither of those matter in Starfinder. Additionally we have the rebuild items to redo a character.

Can anyone think of anything that requires one to write down the order classes were taken vs just the total of each class you possess?

I normally run the PVP Arena fights at GenCon. I'm looking to add some pregens this year so people don't have time to build a character can join in the fun.

If people are interested in working together on some theoretical optimization of 12th level PFS legal characters using no more than 108,000 gp and require no more than 50 prestige points plus no use of any boons or scenario/module specific features. I'd love to hear some of the builds.

The Exchange 4/5 Owner - D20 Hobbies

I'm looking at a free PFS Boon Trading event on Gencon's schedule at 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday.

Are there any known conflicts with this time slot?
Are there any better time slots to hold such an event?

Would any VC like to be at this event to help with making sure all boons are "as authentic as possible"? Is this a concern?

Still shipping?

No progress since 11/31/17?

The Exchange Owner - D20 Hobbies

I've got 4 items in sidecard, and it looks like they don't get shipped on orders as they go out.

If these were not available, can we get them removed?
If available, why are they not shipping with orders?

Did I pay for these already or would that have happened during shipment?

Versatile Movement gives me a Climb speed of my base speed at level 1.

Climb skill wrote:
If you have a climb speed (see page 259), you receive a +8 bonus to Athletics checks to climb and don’t need to attempt Athletics checks to climb except in hazardous circumstances.
Climbing p259 wrote:
If you have a climb speed, you can use move actions to climb slopes, walls, and other steep inclines, and you don’t need to attempt an Athletics check to climb except in hazardous circumstances (see the Athletics skill starting on page 136). You are not flat-footed (see page 276) while climbing. You receive a +8 bonus to all Athletics checks to climb and can always take 10 while climbing, even if distracted or threatened. You can move your full climb speed when you use the move action while climbing, but you cannot run. You can move double your climb speed with a successful Athletics check to climb, but you take a –5 penalty to the check. Creatures without a climb speed use the Athletics skill to climb.

So as long as I'm on an Space Station Wall (25), slightly slippery (2), strong winds (2) = DC 29 I never need to make a check? Even a "take 10" check?

I'm considering making a free event (asking them for a gathering point essentially) near Sagamore for a boon trading session. It would be best done between 7 pm and 8 pm evening slot on Thursday.

Is this something many of us would be interested in doing?

I've coordinated several tables of PFS on Sunday of GenCon the last couple of years.

I'd like to do the same this year.

I'm envisioning 1-4 tables on Wed 7 pm to 11:30 pm and 1-4 tables on Sun 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

If you are interested in playing or GMing for this plan, speak up here. I'll need to sort out a location either by asking for it from GenCon (and if rejected locating it physically myself onsite and posting here where we are.)

I've compiled all methods of attacking with a Two Hand Weapon (or One Hand with both hands) and retain a shield bonus from a shield or gain a shield bonus.

I preferred solid defend-able conservative interpretations, over interpretations that may or may not work at most (if not all) tables.

X is the bonus the shield grants
Y is variable noted in ability

  • +X+1: Feat -> Taldan Duelist (requires falcata and buckler and combat trick to retain ac)
  • +X: Magus (Skirnir) -> Level 8 Spell Combat (buckler only)
  • +X: Item -> Anitmated Shield (move action for 4 rounds)
  • +X: Fighter (Thunderstriker) -> Level 19 (no action or caveats)
  • +X: Feat -> Unhindering Shield (nice but not PFS legal)
  • +X: Feat -> Shield Brace (polearm or spear group, ACP applies to attacks)
  • +Y+1 or +1: Feat -> Shielded Gauntlet Master (style path, Y=enhancement bonus of gauntlet)
  • +Y+1: Feat -> Kyton Shield (with spiked chain, Y=weapon enhancement)
  • +Y: Magus (Staff Magus) -> Level 7 Quarterstaff Defense (Y=Quaterstaff enhancement bonus)
  • +Y: Feat -> Force Shield Mastery (shield duration, limited uses, Y=1/3 fortitude bonus)
  • +4: Spiritualist -> Level 3 Bonded Manifestation (swift action and limited to rounds per day)
  • +4: Spell -> shield (standard action)
  • +4: Feat -> Shield of Swings (half your damage)
  • +2 or 4: Summoner (Synthesist) -> Level 4 or 12 (when fused and not PFS legal)
  • +2: Vigilante -> Level 2 talent Shield of Blades (Must have Power Attacked)
  • +2: Spiritualist -> Level 4 Spiritual Interference (near phantom)
  • +2: Spell -> silk to steel (standard action and rounds per level)
  • +2: Spell -> shock shield (standard action)
  • +2: Kineticist (Water) -> Level 2 Shroud of Water (level and burn based)
  • +2: Item -> War Lance (while mounted and not PFS legal)
  • +2: Item -> Ring of Force Shield (deactivate, attack, reactivate)
  • +2: Item -> Bracers of the Shield Mates (mythic and must be within 100 ft and not PFS legal)
  • +2: Fighter (Swarm) -> Race Kobold Level 5 Share Space (while in another creature's square and not PFS legal)
  • +2: Feat -> Orc Weapon Expertise (Defender and requires orc race and not PFS legal)
  • +2: Feat -> Underfoot (while in another creature's square, Ratfolk race boon required for PFS)
  • +1 or 2: Feat -> Cornugon Shield (with spiked chain, 2 if fighting defensive or total defense)
  • +1: Weapon (Meteor hammer) -> (fortress mode)
  • +1: Weapon (Bill) -> (Fighting defensively or full defense)
  • +1: Fighter -> Advanced Weapon Training Defensive Weapon Training (while using weapon training weapon and increases level based)
  • +1: Feat -> Weapon Trick (Two Handed Warding Weapon while fighting defensively or total defense or using Combat Expertise)
  • +1: Feat -> Swordplay Style (requires heavy blade, fighting defensively or total defense action or Combat Expertise)
  • +1: Feat -> Aldori Dueling Mastery (Aldori dueling sword in two hands)

If you find missing items or better options, please post. If I'm incorrect, please post.

Note: I didn't include things like Shield Focus (things that increase an existing bonus), Improved Shield Bash (things that don't work with two handed weapons), or things that last less than rounds per level.

I've been working on a new PFS character for a while, maybe over a year. This is my current best working solution. Advice on any rules chicanery detected and anything I'm missing I should have taken is most welcome!

wereboar Skinwalker (I have a boon) - +2 STR -2 CHA (+2 CON)
STR 20 DEX 12 CON 15 INT 12 WIS 7 CHA 5
Change Shape gaining Hooves attacks
Deity: Torag

Traits: Vandal (+2 Sunder?) and Fate's Favored (lucky me)

1V) Vigilante - Avenger - Social Grace Craft Alchemy (Day Job)
1) Feat: Extra Feature (gain Gore attack also; Con 13, Skinwalker)
2V) Vigilante - Shield of Blades (gain Power Attack and +2 Shield AC)
3S) Courser Swashbuckler - Dodge
3) Feat: Improved Sunder (Str 13, Power Attack, BAB +1)
4M) Scaled Fist Unchained Monk - Dragon Style, Stunning Fist, IUS
5F) Savage Warrior Fighter - Gate Breaker (Improved Sunder)
5) Feat: Relic Breaker (Gate Breaker)
6F) Savage Warrior Fighter - Greater Sunder (Improved Sunder, BAB +6)

Dead class features:
Dodging Panache (Heavy Armor)
Monk AC Bonus and Flurry of Blows (Heavy Armor)

6th level estimated stats:
HP 57 - AC 28 - Fort 11 Ref 10 Will 3
Full Attack:
+19 Sunder 1d10 + 16 + 4 (Thunderstone) + 6 (Gate Breaker) -> Surplus to target
+14 Sunder 1d10 + 16 + 4 (Thunderstone) + 6 (Gate Breaker) -> Surplus to target
+6 Bite 1d4 + 5 | +6 Gore 1d6 + 5 | +6 2x Hooves 1d4 + 5

Purchase Order (estimated 22,000 gp including day jobs):
+1 adamantine piston maul (Boon Expedition Manager 6 pp)
Amulet of Natural Armor +1 (Boon Expedition Manager 4 pp)
Ring of Protection +1 (Boon Expedition Manager 4 pp)
Belt of Giant Strength +2 (4,000)
Cloak of Resistance +2 (4,000)
+2 full plate (5,650)
Dusty Rose Ioun in Wayfinder and Cracked Dusty Rose Ioun (5,250)
Ring of Rat Fangs (5,000)
----------
2x Cracked Pale Green Ioun (Attack and Saves) - (2x 4,000)
Lucky Horseshoe (6,800)
Deliquescent Gloves (8,000)
Fortifying Leeches (6,000)
Helm of the Mammoth Lord (8,500 + retrain cost of Feat: Extra Feature to Sundering Strike at BAB + 9)

Skills:
Maxed Craft Alchemy, Perception, Disable Device with points left over

My Concerns:

  • Until I can afford Lucky Horseshoe and the Pale Green Saves to make my saves Will +6, the chance of a failed Will save is dire. Maybe prioritize saves over attacks such as Ring of Rat Fangs/Belt of Giant Strength?
  • My AC 28 is going to get me hit a lot. I've tried to work out higher AC, and I can't maintain high STR, CON, DEX, and INT (in that order) with higher AC.

We are missing three copies of the Yetisberg game that we ordered.
Also, we are having a hard time understanding the math of charges on this order.
It says the subtotal is 129.46 - which adds correctly based on prices of what we bought.
It says shipping and handling is 25.74, and we should get $10 off shipping due to our order being over $100.
Then it says our order total is 159.44, which is not what subtotal and shipping add up to. Can you please help us clarify this? Thanks.

Klar is a light shield with shield spikes, which is a virtual size increase and doesn't stack with bashing
Which of these are true: A Bashing Klar deals 1d6 slashing or piercing; 1d6 slashing or 1d8 piercing?; *or* 1d6 slashing or 2d6 piercing?

Klar: The traditional form of this tribal weapon is a short metal blade bound to the skull of a large horned lizard, but a skilled smith can craft one entirely out of metal. A traditional klar counts as a light wooden shield with armor spikes; a metal klar counts as a light steel shield with armor spikes.

Let's try the third FAQ of Spiked Bashing FAQ, this time with the Klar.

It uses the same flawed "armor spikes" language and doesn't describe how the 1d6 is calculated, so both adding spikes and adding bashing are independently recommended to increase it's damage beyond 1d6.

Regardless of the side of this issue you stand, please don't debate it here. Just FAQ and tell your friends to FAQ.

Klar derailing the recent Spiked Shield Re-FAQ
Magically enhancing a Klar with Bashing and Spikeds for 3d6 damage!
Klar is a innate Bashing property so won't stack with spiked or bashing
Klar is not a Spiked Shield so you can add bashing or spikes to it
Klar can be affected by the Bashing property to deal 2D6 Slashing damage
Klar with the Bashing Enchantment does as much damage as an Earthbreaker
Shields with Armor spikes make no sense
Stay with your bashing klar, it's more damage
27 questions about the Klar, it could be a whole blog post answering them all
Focus on Bashing Klar!
They must have said armor spikes to make it useless for Bashing right?
The Klar practically needs it own FAQ
Klar is a 1d6 slashing attached to a 1d3 shield bash?
Is klar just a slashing 1d6 shield bash?
Klash with bashing is 2d6
Klar is two weapons in one, a blade and a shield
Klar with bashing...
I'm getting bored typing these ... I just skipped over 20 more threads back to Jan 2014. Suffice it to say this comes up often and is often an issue that the two sides don't agree.

While we are on the subject, I think most of this could have been solved by forum posts by PDT members. We are currently unable to do so primarily because of this PDT member post invalidating any wisdom that could be used. Any chance on getting a change of this "posts are all unofficial" policy? It would do wonders.

Also, thanks to Melkiador for the title pun on clarification!

We have a lot of FAQ answers over the last couple years. I've noticed a positive trend on the forums. There are less and less burning issues. They type of issues that get people defending their interpretation.

Can we compile the remaining burning issues? Maybe with links to discussion threads.

I'm more interested in the issues and not a discussion on the finer points of each issue. Can we join to compile some issues?

The Exchange Owner - D20 Hobbies

I'm trying to audit the legality of a PFS retrain event.

Character has a 3rd level Arcane SLA (Aasamir).
Wizard level provides Spell Focus pre-requisite.
Bloatmage has two +1 casting level of Wizard.
3rd level take Spell Focus of a different one than provided by the Wizard.

Retrain away Wizard 1 to Arcanist 1 seems legal but leaves the Bloatmage without pre-requisites.

Bloatmage requires 3rd level spell casting (Aasamir) and Spell Focus (one left taken at 3rd level) seems to be legal.

Bloatmage +1 level effects pointed toward Wizard, retrain class feature to point toward Arcanist seems legal.

Any dissenters to these positions?

The only I can think of now is that the character may need to expend two retrain class feature for the Bloatmage, to move both of them to Arcanist.

I'll put in $40 to start, and I'd like to get at least a couple more names on the card when it is delivered. If you'd like to be on the card, post here and PM me the amount (or post your pledge amount.) You can send the pledge now or wait until after it's delivered.

We got errata for Ultimate Equipment and it didn't correct the "armor spikes" language for spiked shields.

A question that seems to continually come up is the question of what is a shield modified by spikes:

  • A spiked shield as a separate weapon and not using "as if" language.
  • A shield with spikes which uses "as if" language.

A the FAQ that resulted from a 107 post FAQ request prohibits stacking of the spiked and bashing properties.

There are tons of threads on this matter:

The FAQ seemed to solve most of the problem, but there is some confusion. It is similar to the ranged flanking confusion after the Gang Up FAQ. We had a FAQ that answered the question, but some felt the FAQ didn't apply.

Let's not try to debate which way is correct in this thread, it is abundantly clear that there can be no consensus to be found. Instead we should try to get as many FAQ clicks as possible. Please click FAQ and tell your friends to click FAQ.

I've got an old character from 2010 with a ton of GM sheets with only 1 prestige.

Is that correct? Or in error?

Did the old PFS guides used to only provide 1 prestige?

The Exchange 4/5 Owner - D20 Hobbies

So I just recently understand that you can play for no credit.

Apparently, you'd get a sheet. It would have 0 XP and 0 PP.

Should you die, you'd have to fill that out.

Can you make a day job roll and get your day job money?

The Exchange 4/5 Owner - D20 Hobbies

I've got some blobs. Two or three.

I'm setting down today to make one into an actual character I'll play. I've read the GtPFS and searched around. I can't find some answers to these questions:

1) Can you make purchases in between sessions if all your sheets are GM credit?

2) Prestige awards can only be 1 per session (The Field Guild "GMs might consider limiting characters to spending Prestige Points only once per gaming session." Is that required in PFS?

3) Do people just slap everything on the last GM sheet, all the purchases in one batch?

This reads like you can be a Skinwalker PC.

Inner Sea Races

To create an ... skinwalker... character, you must have a Chronicle sheet that opens the race as a legal option at character creation.

Races: A dhamphir or skinwalker PC can use the following different statistics as alternate racial options supported by the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign rather than those options that appear in Blood of the Moon and Blood of the Night: jiang-shi born, vetala-born, wereboar-kin, and werecrocodile-kin. The racial heritages section from page 236–254 is a legal resource when qualifying to play a character of a different race, much as if the player owned a copy of the corresponding Bestiary or Advanced Race Guide.

Blood of the Moon

To create a skinwalker (which includes all were-kin), you must have a Chronicle sheet that opens the race as a legal option at character creation. A wereshark-kin does not gain amphibious as a bestial feature; it instead gains the ability to breath water as well as air as an option.

All this reads like I can be a skinwalker, any of the kin, and if I choose werecroc or wereboar, I can use Blood of Moon or Inner Sea Races stats?

I'm actually interested in Fanglord, specifically. If I choose to use a Skinwalker boon, I may be a fanglord based on these passages?

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

I recently found the Iroran Paladin. It's my kind of Paladin.

There are a number of rules interactions I'm having trouble predicting how they would far with a FAQ answer.

This will be PFS, so RAW (with heavy RAI attention) is likely the safest route.

1) Iroran's Confident Defense "adds 1 point of his Charisma bonus (if any) per class level to his Dexterity bonus to his Armor Class"

One of each of these statements are true:

A The Cha is added to your Dex and then your Dex is added to your AC. This allows Cha to be added twice (Dex including Cha to AC and Cha to AC).
B The Cha is added to Dex but it ultimately is still being directly added to AC. So if you also have Cha to AC you are adding Cha twice and they will overlap.

2) Confident Defense adds to Dex and how does this interact with Max Dex:

A Cha is being added to Dex before being applied to AC, and as such the total of your partial Cha and Dex is limited by Max Dex.
B Only Dex is limited by Max Dex, so the Cha added to Dex is after the Max Dex limiter.

3) Iroran's "gains the unarmed strike monk ability, treating his monk level as half his paladin level (minimum 1) for calculating his unarmed strike damage."

A Levels in Iroran Paladin and Monk stack, like Monk's Robes stacks. So a 4th level Iroran and 4th level Monk would be 6th level Monk unarmed damage.
B They don't stack because they don't say they do.

A maneuver master loses this ability when wearing armor, using a shield, or carrying a medium or heavy load.

There are a number of items that are "as Amulet of Natural Armor +1" but have a different name or slot. These are only valid if you have a chronicle sheet. May players upgrade these as they can the Amulet of Natural Armor? Or not because the item only comes in the one form?

Some of these say "Can't be upgraded" and the rest do not.

I'm assuming the ones that do not say they can't be upgrade, may be upgraded.

Well the good days are over. Divine Protection from ACG got nerfed from "Give me Paladin 2nd level Divine Grace" to 1/day immediate action on one save.

I got to say it is probably for the best. That feat was ridiculously broken.

I had it on a RotRL character, rocking 34 as my lowest save (Couldn't afford 2 levels in Paladin.)

I had it on another home creation.

I had it in a Dragon Conflict event on 2 characters I'm running for GenCon.

It was in PVP tournament characters I've played.

It was prolific. Every character that is CHA based, had this feat. If they didn't have the pre-res, they took them if possible before taking this feat.

It was dumb.

I'm thinking these basic roles:
Ranged combatant (Zen Archer/Fighter, Ranger)
Healer (Life oracle, Cleric)
Melee (Fighter, Barbarian)
Buffer (Bard, Sorcerer)
Arcane (Sorcerer)
Wild Shape (Druid, Dark Tapestry Oracle)

Primary goal is that these builds be simple enough that a good player can look at a one page character sheet and play it without prep.

Does anyone have advice on how to make simple characters, what would be good builds, etc.

If one of the items got crushed on a corner during shipping, what can be done?

I'll get it out of the way, this is what I think of blood money:

I really hate the spell and wish it had never been created.

In a Rise of the Runelords campaign, with a character with blood money, permanency, and various spells allowed on the permanency list.

I'm curious what others would do in their game:

  • Allow a moderately optimized PC to use these to get free permanent spells for himself and the other PC's.
  • Block the PC from this using some Rule 0 house rule.

Full disclosure, I'm not the GM. I'm the player with blood money.

This year seems to be better. There are much less items that can be DQ, that grossly violate the formatting rules, and are otherwise bad.

Oddly there seem to be much less items that are on my "must have" list this year.

I'm looking to play either of these scenarios.

Can someone GM?

What spells, items, or hexes can protect against someone closing to melee on a witch?

I seem to recall something that forces a save on anyone close and if failed shuts them down. But for the life of me I can't google for it with the right phrase.
