RPG Superstar™: Top 4 Announced!

Congratulations to our Top 4 RPG Superstar™ competitors!

Steve Miller - Raleigh, NC

James Olchak - Raleigh, NC
Tom Phillips - Fleming Island, FL

Mike Welham - Kernersville, NC

The Top 4 competitors have rolled with the punches and absorbed feedback from the judges and the voters. Now they are making that last push toward the finish line. Now is the time to double down in their efforts and write a proposal for an exciting adventure that'll impress the judges and the voters.

Congratulations to the Top 4—they've survived three rounds of voting and four rounds of sometimes-harsh judge commentary. They've caught the eye of the people at Paizo who make freelance assignments. Each of them has an eye on the prize: getting to write an adventure module and get it published, in print, with his name on the cover. The winner supplies the text, Paizo takes care of the rest. The proof of the winner's quality will be in game stores all over the country.

The deadline for Round 5 entries is March 23rd and submissions for will go live for voting March 27th at 2 PM Pacific time.

The ultimate winner of RPG Superstar™, announced April 3, 2012, will write a Pathfinder Module to be published in early 2013. The 2011 RPG Superstar champion module, Sam Zeitlin’s The Midnight Mirror, releases in April 2012.

Congratulations, all!

Now let's begin the theorizing of what's up with NC. Could it be the water? Is NC too boring to do anything but write RPG material? Are they all stealing ideas from one guy, who they have locked up?

Cheapy, I believe that last guy would probably be Spicer. Though you'd think he'd be able to post an SOS with all his time on the boards.

Congrats to the Top 4; Tom, don't feel left out -- Florida's not far from North Carolina.

Congratulations to all four of you!

Well Neil Spicer is from NC but I'm sure there's no bias...

Neil gets the same 1 vote as everyone else.

Liberty's Edge

Well done to the Top 4!

Congratulations! I wish all of you the best during this final round. Now, if you'll indulge me, a personal request and a challenge:

Top 4, the last couple of rounds have left it really clear as to who my votes were going to end up with. I don't want that in this round. Turn the creative juices to overdrive, hone your writing skills, check and double-check before you finally hit that submit button. I want voting this time around to be physically painful. I want to wring my hands and pore over minutia before I finally decide which one of you is worthy of being named RPG Superstar. When this round is over I want to be convinced that any of the three that don't make it could take it all next year.

It's just the only one that counts...

Fully with you on the hand-wringing desire, but I believe the Top 8 of each year are not eligible for future contests.

Yeah, you're right. How about I amend that to say that any of the other three could have taken it this year.

Congrats to the Top 4! Man, the Force is strong in NC this year. Or maybe it's all the nicotine in the air?

Whoever takes home the title, it can be safely said that this is the year It Came From the South.
Congrats guys! No matter what happens from here, you'll all be writing for Paizo before the year is out, but regardless: make those pitches awesome.

I'm just as confused about the whole NC thing as anyone else, and I'm from Raleigh :)

And now I'm impatient having to wait till the 23rd for all four adventure proposals. But it's 4 days after my birthday, so they'll be a fun present ;)

Also, speaking of Tobacco Road...is it just coincidence that 3 out of the 4 ACC teams also made it into the NCAA Tournament this year (i.e., North Carolina, Duke, and North Carolina State)? They'll be trying to represent, too. :-)

Ahem. And don't forget Florida State. ;-)

Quite right. I guess the irony continues.

Additionally, considering FSU went on to win the ACC Tournament this year, perhaps that bodes well for you? I wouldn't count on omens though. You better bring the awesome. You go big in this contest or you go home. You also can't afford to go too big or folks send you home for overshooting the assignment. Regardless, this is the round to win everyone over.

Congratulations to the top 4 and commiserations to the 4 who didn't make it.

UNC alum grinds teeth. Bah.

Pssh. Better than being a Wake Forest alum. We've stunk since Chris Paul left. :P

Damn, maybe I need to relocate from Charlotte to Raleigh! Congrats guys!
