Just curious, is anybody else from Golarion or spent considerable time there?
I'm fairly certain The First Flame was around before the planet was event formed, lol.
Other than that, I know Josten's parents are Golarion deities, but that doesn't mean he was on world much.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Oh, The First Flame was definitely around long before Golarion was formed. :D I'm figuring it hasn't visited any of the primary campaign settings. They already have their own sources of warmth and light.

Josten Cailean |

In his backstory, Josten was left on Golarion by Cayden Cailean to get some Material Plane experience. He started in Absalom, then made his way by ship to Varisia and involved with the Rise of the Runelords. Josten became famous throughout Avistan, and played before Queen Abrogail Thrune in Cheliax.

Pasha of the Nightsands |

Well, I had to take take the weekly allotment of two days without posting since they were upgrading our internet locally and that left things spotty! Glad I decided to go with a five post a week standard so I didn't end up looking like a slacker missing two consecutive days as the GM.
@Vulpiano: Pretty much EVERY language is available from ANY setting! If you're dead-set on it, you can even know C++ and that's only half a joke. Go wild with whatever languages you want to know since you do have 90ish at your disposal!
Also, I didn't see you mention whether or not you needed any tweaks, so are you good with things as-is? Just wanting to be sure since everything else seems to be in order.

Dr. Vulpiano Arvanxi, MD |

Apologies, I forgot to reply to this. Last few days have been a little busy, and it just slipped my mind.
I think I have still have a ton of gold left to spend. I'm thinking of maybe making some of unique Tel'Kira esque item, attuned to House Arvanxi(and obviously for humans not elves. Just using the Tel'Kira as inspiration).
Gotta go through and choose all of my languages, and spend my last couple of feats(I think I have 2 left) and a few skills, but otherwise, I **think** I'm done.

The First Flame |

I am very much looking forward to writing The First Flame's weird communication. :D

Pasha of the Nightsands |

Got a little busy since my post about two hours ago, but the first official gameplay post is up now! IT BEGINS AT LAST! :D
It also dawned on my that the profile picture I chose for my GM alias is basically just my main one, but looking like it's doing a Rick Flair "WOOOOO!" towards the sky and I don't think that I can be any more pleased with that than I am right now!

Pasha of the Nightsands |

@Vulpiano: Yep, just you six! You all still belong to the greater Circle of Wardens/Wardens of the Lattice, but every Circle is an autonomous cell that generally only interacts with the others out of dire necessity so as to not stretch the organization too thin.

The First Flame |

Hmmm, should we bump into each other before we're all in a big group, or just wait until we're all together...

Dr. Vulpiano Arvanxi, MD |

I PM'd Pasha about how long the our version of the Broken Circle has been together for, and they basically said it's up to us to figure that. Ie, they don't personally care how long we've been a group, so long as we aren't there from the beginning. I guess the Circle itself has been around for several centuries, at least.

Gamemaster of the Dreamlands |

My plan was that you would all arrive at your Hall of Justice-style meeting room to discuss your meeting with Magdalena and decide as a group to use your keys and journey to Allialla. If you want to bump into each other and say a few words while on the way, that's 100% A-okay with me.
As for Vulpiano's topic, I just have this to say: the Broken Circle was been around for ages, long enough where they were around during the Wonder Wars against the Kyton Exarchs. You all could have joined at any point past when the initial group was broken by betrayal, as I have both lore and plans for those first members of the Broken Circle. So you can be either recent recruits or members for centuries if you want.

The First Flame |

I'm thinking The First Flame has been in the city for about eighty years, and probably joined the Broken Circle not long after arriving in the city.

Gamemaster of the Dreamlands |

Oho, the ball is now rolling! I'm getting really hyped about what's to come. I'll let you guys hash everything out and, once you choose to use your Keys, this trip of epic action and extraplanar weirdness can finally start to become a reality! It's enough to make this ol' jaded GM want to belt out the manliest of squees.

Dr. Vulpiano Arvanxi, MD |

Just an FYI, I probably won't be able to get my first post up till at least this afternoon. My mom and I have our first big craft fair event tomorrow(assuming the weather holds), and I'm supposed to have an IRL game tonight as well. Have been super busy.

Josten Cailean |

A good omen, to be sure.

The First Flame |

Depends on how much we want to lean into the idea of The First Flame being made of plasma and whether or not your drones could deal with that. :D

The First Flame |

Hmmm... on the one hand I feel like it makes sense roleplay-wise for her drones not to work on The First Flame, on the other talon its not a game-mechanical thing so *hostile* effect similar to it would work fine... maybe say we've figured out a way to get them to work? I would assume this isn't the first time Maedyri's done this with the Broken Circle.

Duskashae |

These drones offer many benifits such as allowing her to communicate over any distance (within a plane), find you, know any condition affecting you and give you buffs. However it does make you more susceptible to her mind and death sphere effects, which she doesn't hide. It's up to you whether you trust her enough.
Has Maedryri given us a good reason to trust her over the years? Like, does she ever use her Mind and Death sphere effects on her allies? I always prefer to trust my fellow players, and thus by extension have my characters trust their characters, but I don't think we've played together before and I don't know if anyone is planning to do any subtle PvP with their characters. So yes, out of character I want us to work together as a team, but if there's any possibility that you might jump up later and shout "You fool! You should never have trusted me! Muahahaha!", well then I don't want my character to act stupidly. :)

Arc Zeon - Humanity's Zenith! |

Eh, that's part of why Arc Zeon gave everyone access to a team wide Death Ward. Besides, he's pretty decent at dispelling spell effects, so he should be able to help anyone in the party whose fallen under mental control.
He definitely doesn't need any of the buffs, but he won't say no to the ability to maintain long range communication as needed.

Maedyri |

Oh, and Arc and Duskashae, my drones aren't trinkets or something you can stuff in your pocket. It's literally a minuscule spider that burrows into your body like a parasite. Yes, it's creepy and a little disgusting. You can read more about it here Gravecrawler.

Gamemaster of the Dreamlands |

You all can read the spoiler for Duskashae. I just spoilered it since she seemed to want to scrutinize what she saw, but there's nothing I need to keep from the rest of you.
Also, I have a question: would you prefer I make Perception and Sense Motive checks for you all unless you have choose to make one yourselves? It's totally up to you folks. It would definitely make things speedier in the future, although I can understand if me making secret checks would be disappointing from the standpoint of someone who just wants to roll them bones at every opportunity.

The First Flame |

I don't have a need to roll checks myself, I'd be fine with you rolling them.

Josten Cailean |

I'm confident in Josten's Perception and Sense Motive modifiers that I'd let you, Gamemaster, make those rolls for the demigod.
Especially if it leads to more creative descriptions.

Duskashae |

I'm fine with you rolling for Duskashae. She's got Skill Mastery with Perception, so she will always have a 61 without modifiers, or 65 when Home Advantage is applicable. :)
Oh, and thanks for the detailed writeup of what was happening around us. It's nice to occasionally get a broad sense of what a new location feels like. Very fun!

Gamemaster of the Dreamlands |

Fair enough! Just wanted to make sure people were fine with me handling some rolls. I'll wait and see what everyone else says concerning their preferences, but I'm 100% fine with either way of handling things.
@Duskashae: Thanks! I do like to add in a bit of detail to environments instead of something like "You stand in a city and are welcomed by X character, who ushers you to your destination." It adds to the immersion when a GM adds little details like that. I may not ALWAYS go full-hog with the details, but I try to do so whenever possible. I can't wait for the characters to get out of the shifting cityscape of Allialla so that I can REALLY go into descriptive exposition mode with some of the weirder locales! Qaṣr al-Kawābīs, my homebrew name for the generically named "City of the Coliseum" in Coliseum Morpheuon, in particular has a vibe somewhere between a dark reflection of 1,001 Arabian Nights, The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath, and Planescape that is sure to thrill players when I start describing it.

The First Flame |

I'm seeing how long The First Flame can go without needing to use words to communicate. :D

Gamemaster of the Dreamlands |

Fair enough! So everyone but Vulpiano will have their passive roles made by yours truly then.
@Maedyri and Dushashae: Which camp do you fall under concerning the mode of travel to the Sunset Palace? Curious as to what the whole party's thoughts are.
@The First Flame: Ha, it will be an interesting challenge for sure!

I promise I'm not tryin to be difficult by being the odd one out twice now!
However, it is 100% in character for Vulpiano to want to explore a new setting(and thus learn more about), assuming there's no immediate danger/emergency. It doesn't *seem* like the danger the King is concerned about is imminent, *especially* with Magdalena offering us the scenic route in the first place.

Duskashae |

Duskashae sees no reason to linger here longer than neccessary. I'm with the majority thinking we should move ahead to meeting with the King. :)
