Curse of the Crimson Throne

Game Master EltonJ

The Curse of the Crimson Throne is a campaign dealing with one of the curse on the rulers of Korvosa. Can you alleviate the Curse? Can you prevent a queen in her evil and mad bid for immortality?

Gonna do a fighter+rogue dual class setup, will start with fighter for the HP and to get an idea of what skills that the party need when I take rogue.

Wealth: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 6, 5) = 27
270 gp, sweet.

Oh right forgot to ask about trait drawbacks, as I want to add an odd trait to my character, that may not see any use, but fits with the character.

Awesome. I'll get to it today and have something by tonight.

Much appreciated

I'll also try to do the new system rolling thing as I get time during work

Character will be

Millinum Decimus

Milly for short

I'm working on finishing up Jawn for your consideration. He's a halfling (unchained) rogue with the Unhappy Childhood - Tortured campaign trait. I'll finish up the rest of the details tonight.

I will probably need help as I'm simply copying from what RHMG rolled

Yeah, you need to follow what is written in the system

Link to txt file for System

as math and looking at tables happens between each roll so no one can copy and paste someone's dice rolls, or you could end up in debt hell on your last stat like what you rolled.

Basically

Set the pool to the point buy

Look at table 1-1 first
It tells you the dice to roll.
Roll it, and subtract from the poll the cost of the stat (refer to table 1-2).
Repeat this for a total of 5 rolls.

Use the remainder to either set the stat or boost a few stats and set the final stat.

So everyone needs to switch over to the new rolling system? That's what I understood

I can apply that array to Azig? 17, 10, 17, 7, 10, 13

I'm kinda waiting for GM EltonJ for feedback on this and if he'll use this as a replace for the previous rolling method.

As it gives the richness of chaotic luck, but within an ordered limit of balanced fairness.

Sigh

You can use this method.

We can use this method, not have to from the wording.

So options are;
4d6 drop the lowest
25 PB
my system that is a semi-random blend of dice rolls and point-buy.

I'll stick with my roll that I had then :P

But thank you for the effort. New roll systems are always fun to look at

Seth86 wrote:

Sorry, but you didn't finish in the use of my system, So if your keeping the rolls of the system you have a ton of debt to pay on the final stat as written in the system. Two of your 16 have to be cashed into 14's and you get a 7 for the last stat, so your final array is

16,15,14,14,11,7

I meant the roll I had with the normal 4d6 drop lowest

16, 15, 15, 14, 13, 12

Oh, Sorry about that, I must of missed you rolling an array earlier in the thread.

I'm having a very busy week, so if it's all right with the GM, I'd like to keep my character, and apply any changes in case he gets selected. Honestly, he won't change much except some numbers, but the character core remains the same.

Fair enough, The drawback and the trait were more for flavor things then a benefit and weren't really needed,

I just wanted a thing or two that mesh with and flesh out the character's backstory and naive mentality with some backed mechanics.

Edit:
Still filling out all the character stuff and their backstory.

Switched Felicity over to 25-point buy. The additional points went to fixing her bad Charisma and improving her Wisdom and Constitution. Also revised her gear since we're not really tracking encumbrance.

It's getting tough to pick.

Does the the possible sprite barbarian seem plausible?

I miss read the cost of the fey DR. So I'll drop that. Total RP then 18

I think it's too powerful. 18 RP is enough to grant you +1 LA.

Okidoki. I'll stay with initial character then

Backstory:
Like so many orphan children on the streets of Korvosa, Lara grew up on the streets and ended up as part of Lamm's "Little Lambs". While it meant she at least had something to eat and a place to rest, Lamm was a despicable man, and the beatings he would dole out when they'd failed to bring in enough in a day were brutal.

Lara would sometimes give what she stole to other kids, especially the younger ones, hoping to shield them from Lamm's wrath, which only made things worse for her - until he finally had enough - after a particularly bad string of failures, he gave her a brutal beating and left her battered in a garbage heap. Those scars we still visible today, even if she tried to hide them as best she could.

She'd probably not have survived if not for Shadi, a Shoanti woman who found her, and took her in. After she managed to nurse Lara back to health, she asked her to stay. With nowhere else to go, Lara agreed, and Shadi began teaching her. How to hunt, how to move about unseen. How to read a target's movements. Lara was a quick study, and would practice hunting for rats on the street.

Shadi was very reluctant to share much details about herself, but Lara eventually managed to put enough together to get a clearer picture about her saviour's life. Shadi worked as an assassin for hire for Korvosa's crime lords, known as The Crimson Whisper, renowned for her deadly skills. She couldn'y find any details about her life before coming to Korvosa, although Shadi's teachings had helped her notice she signs of shame and regret in Shadi's eyes whenever Lara asked about her past before coming to the city.

Whatever brought Shadi to Korvosa had also led her straight into the grips of shover addiction - Lara had caught her shivering frequently at night, typically after a job. And in the end, like so many others in the streets, it was the drug that took her life. Shadi's death shook Lara, and she spent quite a few days grieving, and wondering what to do with her life, as she had no one else to turn to. Eventually, she decided to try and do something about the city, try to make things better for those like her.

At first she tried helping out the Korvosan Guard - they were surprisingly willing to work with mercenaries and adventurers and the like, and she managed to put her skills to use, working mainly as an informant for them. And whatever money she could save, she'd donate to an orphanage in the city. But things didn't change much - the guard didn't have the resources to act on most of the information she brought, and every week she'd learn of more kids going missing, or people turning up dead on the streets, from either violence or drugs.

Fed up with the state of things, Lara made a decision - the only way for things to change, was to go after the crime lords themselves. Either intimidate them enough to stop their evil deeds, or force them to stop - permanently. Shadi's reputation was still quite well known, and few, of any, knew of her death. She'd become The Crimson Whisper, but she'd be focusing on going after the crime lords themselves instead of doing their dirty work. As a way to protect ghose like her, and to honor Shadi.

She took care to assemble a similar outfit to the one Shadi used to wear on her job - while the dark clothes and hooded cloak were something most would expect from those with her occupation, the dark red scarf she used to cover her face was distinctive enough. As was the intricate Shoanti tattoo she had on her right arm, that she displayed with pride.

After getting a similar one done, and seeing it contrasting with the scars she'd gotten from Lamm so long ago, Lara knew exactly who her first target as The Crimson Whisper would be.

I got the crunch down for the character, for the most part. Just need to add all of the racial abilities, as well as the background, personality and appearance.

Speaking of which, are alternate racial abilities a thing? If so I was thinking of swapping defensive training and hatred for barrow warden, and stonecunning for barrow scholar, both from Horror Adventures. if I have to just choose one I can choose barrow warden.

I'm submitting Bridgette Olivia Noya Yakov (Also known as Bonny) - Half-Drow (Half-elf using Drow alternate racial traits) Fighter

They'll start as Fighter then take levels in Rogue for a dual-class build like one could see and find in classic 3.x D&D.

They are using the rolled Point-Buy system, as I'm not sure of all the benefits the old rolls will get, so I kept a back up version with the old rolls

Realized I probably should reroll that one score that was a total of 7. I’ll do that now but let me know if it wasn’t necessary

4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 3, 3) = 16 = 13, much better

Sadly that roll of 7 stands, the re-roll is for if the WHOLE stat array has a mod of Zero or less

Ah damn. I'll have to work around that on level up if I'm selected.

Power Attack Elwe can take a -1 penalty on attack rolls to add +2 to her damage rolls.
Stonestrike Once per day per paladin level, as a swift action, Elwe treats her melee attacks until the beginning of her next turn as magical and adamantine, ignoring hardness up to twice her paladin level, and gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls, damage rolls, and combat maneuver checks. As long as she touches the ground or a stone structure, this also applies to her CMD. This bonus increases by +1 at 5th level, and by +1 every 5 levels afterwards.

I don't see a problem. The Stats are well presented. I think you did the skills right, and you have your feat selected.

Since we are going to pivot to the 25 point buy I will wait to make that modification if chosen. Nothing would change as far as the build/background.

I was unaware that there were few arcane spellcaster submissions. Too late for that I suppose.

yes.

Here is Elwe Pyrebash, Koolkobold's dwarf paladin (stonelord) submission. Copy pasting her background, appearance and personality here.

Background:
Elwe comes from a long line of undead hunters who have settled in the Sky Citadel of Janderhoof since its foundation. She was trained under the expertise of her father and uncles, all devout warpriests of Torag who strive to hunt down all undead. However, unlike others in her family, she is more attune to the earth, and thus became a specific type of holy warrior among her kind-a stonelord. Once her training was complete, however, she decided to settle among the nearby town of Korvosa, assisting the temple of Torag within the city's South Shore. There, she met a dwarf bard by the name of Strod, who spends his days livening the atmosphere of the city with his music. They fell in love quite quickly, and although their marriage was quick, it took almost a decade before Elwe became a mother to a daughter, whom she named Marel.

Life was simple for Elwe for some time-balancing her training with raising her daughter and relaxing to the sweet music of her husband. However, tragedy struck one day, as while she and Marel were at the Green Market getting goods, the dwarf woman took her eyes off her child for a minute...and like that, Marel went missing.

Days of searching turned to weeks, and now it has almost been a month since Marel has been missing. Nothing seemed to lead them closer to her daughter-even her husband's requests from the Sable Company and the Korvosan Guard were able to muster up a trail. It has taken a toll on the stonelord, as she has forsaken her training and refuses to even think about returning to training until she finds her daughter.

Appearance:
Elwe stands at an even four feet tall, her dark brunette hair generally held in a small ponytail. Her eyes are a sharp amber, and her stocky build showcases her great strength and stamina. She is almost always wearing her dwarven scale mail, and wielding her warhammer made by her uncles, and her shield with a symbol of Torag painted in the center.

Personality:
While to strangers, Elwe may seem like a gruff warrioress, those who get to know her learn that she is the definition of "mother hen". Her generosity goes so far as to make sweets for her friends and neighbors, and occasionally will use her cooking skills to help out priests and worshippers of other deities (sans the evil ones worshipped). As of late, though, she has become more impatient and sullen, as every day where her daughter is not found is another day where her anxieties convince her the worst has happened to her baby. Although her powers are not yet unlocked, she holds onto the steady and patient determination that, as the mountain is formed from decades of erosion, her true powers will awaken in time.

Liberty's Edge

Here's my submission, Wrathadorand. He's a shoanti half-giant Aegis with plans to take levels in Soulknife and eventually the Metaforge Prestige Class. I really wanted to do two-weapon fighting with psychically manifested blades - if you're familiar with Starcraft's Zealots, that's pretty close - but this build gets exactly one bonus feat and has five non-twf related feats it needs so that's not going to work... so he has a big hammer. Just your normal dad lookin' for his kids.

Wrathadorand:

===============Personality===============

Like any shoanti, Wrathadorand carries himself with cool confidence, trusting both in his own skill and the guidance of the spirits. Unlike most shoanti, Wrathadorand has a certain charismatic quality making him far more approachable than his tribal kin. Despite a natural gift for socializing, his status as a half- giant oft marks him as a loner, though he is never really alone. Haunted by visions of the spirit realms and those who reside there, he has always been distant with those who still have two feet firmly planted within the land of the living. He can come off as more aloof and spontaneous than his stoic brethren, but that is only because the spirits are fickle, often changing their minds without notice, and he follows where they lead. His calm and quiet personality stands in stark contrast to his appearance. He does not seek confrontation, but he does not shy away from battle or challenge.

Picture of Wrathadorand

Age: 41 | Height: 8'2" | Weight: 368 lbs. | Hair: Dark Brown| Eyes: Dark Blue

Wrathadorand is a shoanti of giant descent. His most notable feature are his dark blue eyes, which shoanti do not normally have. Brown hair hangs to his shoulder blades and he has a full, manicured, medium length beard. He has copper colored skin - a feature as much a gift from his shoanti heritage as it is from endless hours spent under the sun. His skin is crisscrossed with many battle scars, some from beasts, some from more intelligent foes, but he has somehow managed to acquire a collection of only what would generally be considered "attractive" scars - scars that make readily apparent his tale as a skilled and powerful warrior, but do not leave him disfigured or maimed. His copper skin is also covered in tribal tattoos, mostly on his arms and back, representing his Quah. He is, naturally, enormous, even for a shoanti, with broad shoulders, barrel chest, and heavy muscling. His clothing is of traditional shamanic styling: open toed leather sandals and loose-fitting flame-orange linen trousers under a simple, white sleeveless cotton robe of sorts that is often left open to bare his chest. He wears a large amount of jewelry and piercings for a warrior, mostly gold and onyx, each piece representing a different spirit or rite or ward against the undead. He wields a mighty earth breaker - the weapon of his people - but dons psionically forged plates for combat.

===============Story===============

Wrathadorand - born Bhornkild - is a giantkin shoanti of the Shriikirri-Quah. He had a typical shoanti childhood just trying to survive in the increasingly small territory left for them by the Chelaxians. Being gaintkin, Wrathadorand was naturally a boon to the quah, though he was rather intelligent and spiritual for such a fierce warrior, rarely quick to anger and communing regularly with the spirits.

On reaching adulthood he entered into an arranged marriage with with Aiyana, a human shaman who is the opposite of Wrathadorand in many ways - short, slight of build, and quick tempered. Aiyana was shoanti and had family within the quah, and more distant family in the other quah's, but she also had family that lived in Korvosa. Eight years ago the young couple welcomed twin girls, Alona and Wildcat, who took after their mother, into the world.

Having somewhat more charm than the average shoanti, and with his wife's connections in Korvosa, the quah sent Wrathadorand and his family to Korvosa to try and strengthen relations between the two peoples and Wrathadorand started traveling back and forth between the city and the barbarian lands, sometimes bringing his wife and daughters. He had been warned that the Korvosan's hated shoanti, but he personally found it a rare circumstance for anyone to be rude to his face.

It was on one such trip to Korvosa, Alona and Wildcat in tow, that the twins disappeared in the market. Gone without a trace, the only sure thing is that the kidnappers must have catastrophically bad decision making skills to anger the shoanti. It was all Wrathadorand could do to keep his immediate family from trying to tear apart the city looking for the girls, knowing panic would only make things worse, especially since they were not welcome in Korvosa to begin with, imploring them to trust in the spirits, even though he struggled to hide his own panic and uncertainty.

Tensions are high as some among the quah speak of needing more direct intervention from the shoanti, believing that the people of Korvosa simply do not care about the missing shoanti girls. Wrathadorand cannot help but notice the spirits have been unusually quite since Alona and Wildcat went missing and the leaves of the calendar continue to fall away ...
