If you don't want to go through the trouble, I already have a discord server set up. I'd be more than happy to handle the admin stuff. Ridge is even there already. :D
Anyway, thanks for picking me. I'm excited to see how this goes!
EDIT: Would you mind letting us post a dot in Gameplay? This would let the game show up on our campaign tab.

I appreciate your offer, Adam - I don't mean to impose, but joining an existing Discord server might be better.
As for the Gameplay tab, I'm working on my initial post now - I hope to have it up shortly.
Saquiel |
Happy to be selected. I do worry that Saquiel is not nearly as heavily optimized as the other PCs, so I may look to make some mechanical changes so as to pull my weight. One change could be reducing defense a bit in favor of improving offense; with so many martials, he doesn't need to worry as much about being on the front lines. We might have Titania, Garen, and Grod on the front lines with Saquiel striking from the second rank or using Frightful Gaze. Perhaps dropping Dex to 12 to boost Str to 18. Maybe swapping out the Focused Study option to get Spirited Charge online sooner.
Another change is adding a drawback. Just about everyone else seems to have them, and I rarely use them as I consider them poorly designed. But if avoiding them is nerfing myself to the detriment of the party, then I could take Unlearned as a drawback and The Rider as the additional trait.
I do think that our party as it stands will suffer from Paizo's favorite trap-like challenges, the things that only 1 or 2 PCs in any party can address. Traps themselves (which cause more problems than just damage), swarms (always awful), and haunts (at least until Saquiel and Garen gain Aura of Courage). As well, the lack of a cleric really hurts with the absence of status-removal spells, Restoration most of all. I have learned this the hard way in many campaigns. So I think we'll be heavily reliant on the magic mart.
Finally, I have a ton of questions about how the Ghost Rider archetype is supposed to work:

It's not an imposition at all! Just give me a bit to get things set up and I'll have invites out shortly.
Titania Olivia Thrune |
Alrighty! Everyone should have an invite. I'll try to get roles assigned as soon as you join.
Grod the Cunning |
Hey folks. Speaking of tweaking things, it did belatedly occur to me earlier today that, given that Grod and Gorum are both neutral on the Good/Evil Axis, it might make sense for him to channel/spontaneously cast Negative energy instead of positive, given his fighter first caster second stance. Channel negative might also help with swarms.
But actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I'd have to drop my archetype to channel negative, Arsenal Chaplain trades it out. And just spontaneously casting Inflict spells isn't that great, I'd almost always be better off hitting people with an axe or whatever. It's too bad you can't channel spells through a Conductive weapon, only SLAs or supernatural abilities. Probably best to stick to spontaneous curing. (But I'm open to hearing it if y'all have opinions).
Titania Olivia Thrune |
Yeah, it sounds like we're short on healing as is. I'd rather look into getting a wand of burning hands or something for swarms. Alchemist fire would also work.
Saquiel |
I think the party would be better off if Saquiel were replaced by another PC, one with more utility in other dimensions.
I appreciate the invitation but I just can't see how he makes a meaningful contribution given the melee prowess that this party already has. It's overkill, without adding much ability to solve other problems.
Best of luck with the game.

Hoping this is right. Replacement character, skill monkey/book-worm/know-it-all reporting. I chose the questioner archetype so will have Bard spells available. Once we can afford CLW wands that will have any out of combat healing covered. Unfortunately that also means no armor....
I am local and appear to be human except for extremely blue eyes. Actually, I don't know what I am. My parents are human so I must be right? Except that I can see in the dark and there's always a light breeze whenever I'm around.
Are we working our who knows who or in game connections?

Not sure about who knows who? Mokmurian do you want us to know one another before we arrive in Sandpoint?

Well, we had been discussing how our characters might meet each other in AdamWarnock's Discord server - 'members of the same caravan' was floated as a suggestion, but don't feel bound by it. Also, being in the same caravan doesn't necessarily mean you have any further acquaintance than probably knowing each other's faces - feel free to discuss with the other players and see who has cause to know who. For instance, if AdamWarnock decides that Tot's shy nature, marginalized status as a tiefling, and limited experiences with the faiths of good mean that she's tried to avoid the caravan's paladin, the two characters may well start off the adventure as virtual strangers. Again, this is just an example, however - pretty much any extent of prior social interaction or lack thereof you decide on is fine, whether as a group or on a case-by-case basis.
Titania Olivia Thrune |
Pretty much what the GM said. Tot would have joined the caravan in Magnimar and worked as a cook. Some of the things I think others would notice about Tot over the two days it takes to get to Sandpoint include:
- She is painfully shy, answering questions with as few words as possible and trying to deflect any questions about herself.
- She's a pretty good cook. (Taking 10 gives her a 16 on Profession(Cook) checks)
- She keeps to herself for the most part, but every now and then she'll listen in on others' conversations.
- She keeps a journal, and is very protective of its contents.
Garen Williamson |
Garen is not much of a talker. He is good with animals though. In the evenings, he would help with the wagon teams and assist the caravan healer.
He prays three times a day, works through combat forms in the evenings after the caravan settles in, and helps with any injuries incurred during movement. He neither preaches nor proselytizes, not his thing. Therefore, unless Tot needed healing they may not have even crossed paths. I could easily see him sparring with Grod. Not sure about interactions with the other two at the moment.
Garen Williamson |
Sounds good. The opening sounds great. Will there be a follow on "And your caravan rolls in like a barrel of monkeys. What are you doing?"

I'm a local from Sandpoint. But I could have met any of you when the caravan arrived. My parents are merchants. I would have been with my mother meeting the caravan to help her move stuff that they would have ordered from points around Varisia. My main interests from the caravan would've been any books in the shipments, and any obvious non-humans that didn't tell me to go away....
Out of character: Erridon doesn't know that he's a Sylph. He's looking for non-humans that might know what he is. He looks like a human with very blue eyes. There is always a light breeze around him, but outdoors it wouldn't be noticeable.

Excellent, I was hoping one of us would play a local! The GM and I were considering that Izzy D might have a cousin or Uncle in town, but he may end up being a Shrubber ;)
Titania Olivia Thrune |
I think we're trying to figure out how we all got to Sandpoint. It looks like at least four of us, Garen, Izzy, Tot, and Zorlen are coming in as part of a caravan. Not sure about Grod and Erridon.

Hey, I'm a local, too! Just... Been away for quite a while.
For the folks in the caravan, Zorlen would mostly keep to himself, practicing magic, going over his spellbook, notes, rune covered scrolls, maps. You know, bookish wizard sort.
He'd be curious about Tot, as a fellow tiefling, but wouldn't impose, having taken notice of her shyness.
@Erridon: We're both from Sandpoint and we're the same age - I think we'd at least know of each other. Up to you how close you want to be. I figure we could be good friends, given our shared bookish personality, but it'd mean associating with the "weird, cursed kid", which you, or your parents, might not have wanted you to do. And regarding what you are, well, Zorlen has been reading a lot this past five years, and knowledge of the planes is something he's looked into, too :).
Erridon Drallen |
@Zorlen. Erridon's parents are fine with his interest in other races. His father might be less open but Erridon and his mother don't believe in the "weird, cursed" part of that. As some kids like to say, "You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose. You might even be able to pick your friend's nose.... But you can't pick your parents!"
He would be fascinated by your spellbook if you let him see it, even though he wouldn't understand the words you use to cast spells. If you took the time he would possibly understand your process, and he would have demonstrated the spells that he can cast. But his process is more like a sorcerer.
So basically I think he'd definitely consider you to be a friend. And he'd be happy to meet Tot if you introduced him. And he'd want to hear all about the traveling that you did. He has Knowledge-local, history, and geography so he's studied wherever you were. He's just not been there himself, yet.
Titania Olivia Thrune |
Figured I'd put this here since everyone's more likely to see it (I hope.) I made a last minute addition to Tot's appearance and personality. She now has freckles and she is self-conscious about how young they make her look. I just figured I'd put that out there just in case one of you wants to tease-- I mean just so that you're all aware of it.

My apologies if I seem like I haven't been all there over the past few weeks. Both of my grandmothers have wound up in the hospital, one for falling and hitting her head, the other for RSV and pneumonia. On top of this I also found out that my remote work agreement would not be renewed by my employer, meaning I either have to move, make a 180 mile (190 km) three hour commute to work and back each day, or find a new job. For a variety of reasons, I've elected to go job hunting. Yesterday and today, I've received some news that is likely to make things more erratic in the near term.
While visiting with my mom and sister yesterday I learned that my nana, my mom's mom and the one that's in the hospital with RSV and pneumomia, is ready to die. The doctors say she's doing well and is recovering, but some of the things she's said, like waiting on Papa James to come get her though he's been gone since 2006, are just... I dunno if I can describe it. She'll be 96 this coming Saturday.
Just now, I got a text message from my uncle, my dad's brother. Grammy, the one that fell and hit her head, has been getting worse since Friday. She can't move much on her own anymore and is only mumbling when she tries to talk. She's 81.
Please, just keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
Garen Williamson |
I just said a prayer for you and will add you and your family to my prayer list. I lost my mom during this time of year and it can be hard. I pray both grandma's make it through their current illnesses.

How are we going to do treasure tracking? I use a very basic one in my games I could share.
Erridon Drallen |
All I say is keep it simple. So basic sounds good. If you could set up something and share it. Maybe the GM could post the link at the top of the page?

Question to GM Mokmurian. Was it 60 GP total, or 60 GP each?
Titania Olivia Thrune |
Speaking of gold, how are we calculating how much Tot earns? Per day, per week? Based on how much she got for helping out, it's a number of silver equal to the roll. If that's the case, then for two days, that'd be 16 silver a day. Does that seem a bit much?
Also, a bit of good news. My nana should be leaving the hospital and heading to the rehab center this afternoon.
GM Mokmurian |
Question to GM Mokmurian. Was it 60 GP total, or 60 GP each?
Apologies, I should have been more clear - it was sixty gold in total, to be split six ways. Each of you does get a combat-trained light horse/pony and saddle, though, so there's that.

It seems high at first glance, but as per the rules for Profession, a week's worth of work (5 days) nets you your result in GP divided by 2 - 1 GP = 10 SP, so 10 SP divided by 2 per point of check result means check result in SP per day. It's just an interpretation of the rules, broken down by day. As a corollary, I also note that while I wasn't intending it that way at first, Ameiko's generosity means that she's shaping up to be both a good friend to the party and a truly atrocious tavern owner.
Again, I apologize for my slow posting in this campaign.

I got some good news about my grandmothers.
My maternal grandmother is out of the hospital and undergoing rehabilitation. Unless something drastic happens, she'll be 96 tomorrow.
My paternal grandmother is more lucid and able to speak clearly again. She's still got some short-term memory problems and is bed-bound, but this is still an improvement from the last time I saw her, even if she's not likely to get any better.
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. I appreciate every single one of them.
Titania Olivia Thrune |
Sorry for the navel gazing, kinda easy to fall into with Tot. Part of it is trying to get into her head and another part of it is setting up something that I'd like to do when we get back to the Dragon, and having a conversation with Ameiko. Canonically, Ameiko's almost a decade younger than Tot (if we assume that RotRL's takes place in 4707 AR, then she's 18 at the start of the AP. Tot's 27,) but in many ways Tot's growth has been stunted by basically being trained as a soldier since she was 10, well, even before that since she didn't exactly come from a loving home. She's been out in the wild, so to speak, long enough that she's recognized this, but that still isn't going to be something that Tot overcomes overnight.
Hope this helps explain where I'm coming from. I think as we move through the AP, especially this first chapter, Tot will settle down and become less introspective as she realizes what she wants and what she has to do to get it.
That said, I'm loving the interaction between Ari and Tot and if Pancakes is alright with it, I think a romance between the two of them would be sweet and adorkable.
