The itinerary that Taeron sent from his scheduler is Diplomacy training and interview practice. The group is being scouted by corporations with potential sponsorship, depending on how the interviews go. It does have an interview with the Starfinder Society on arrival as a fixed meeting, but there are gaps where availability can be indicated for companies that they might be interested in.

This Introduction is well thought out and presented. Thank you.
Post before my SoT game tonight.

I felt like Blue was honest enough on the way "in" about not knowing much about the setting ... so I figured I would help substantiate Sun Tzu versus calling anyone out. Hope that's okay with everyone.Hello! Disregard if you are all full. I've never played Starfinder and would likely need help with the learning curve. But I liked the opener and the references being made so I thought I might make an attempt at a concept.
Blue stars burn hot, bright and fast. That's the problem, you see. They burn themselves out or supernova all too soon. When they first manifested, the news was bittersweet. Living into retirement was unlikely. So they embraced their fate and sought to do as much as they could while they were around to do it. To make a name for themselves and make their family proud.
Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with the setting to put in much detail. I don't even know what Alien/Race to pick. There are so many! The Worlanisi seemed interesting, but I saw the shield manifestation wasn't yet utilized but I'm not sure a small character lends itself well to tanking.
Is anyone going for piloting? That was an impulse to include in the concept, but wasn't sure if that role was already filled.
Anyway, would appreciate input toward choices that would synergize well with the concept or are just good for the build. I have built a pretty effective bodyguarding cavalier for PF1e before so I'm not completely hopeless. XD
No worries. That was definitely IC as much as OOC for my character. I didn't *think* Sun Tzu had made it in, but the setting is so vast I could always have missed it, and Pertinax doesn't know anything at all about ancient Golarion. (I do still think it'd be cool to have Sun Tzu in the setting as a deity. I might outta write that down for a home game).

This time on the ship is intended to establish some familiarity with your characters, give yourselves the opportunity to stretch your legs, and given that the HAC can be used for a multitude of purposes, serve as a media and instruction hub for the duration of the trip. Once everyone is satisfied, just let me know and we can arrive at the start of the adventure.
I think Zem has exhausted her "getting to know you" schtick for the time being. She did ask Pertinax for a clarification but beyond that, ready to move on with the plot.
I did post some time back that she would spend some time with the materials Taeron made available to us but really have no concept to narrate that myself.

I had meant to post a Zephyr/Taeron "omg you're lashunta" post but I can do that shortly. The post will be meant to highlight Zeph's longing for Castrovel ...

No worries. It is made available to everyone, but is by no means mandatory. Just a chance to get a leg up, learn a skill that might not have had any real opportunity to be used, and get a bonus.
Anyone utilizing the HAC programs will be able to put a point into Diplomacy, officially. Agreeing to a round of interviews has a chance to land a sponsor, and a guarantee of a set of Designer Clothing for said interviews.

Zeph will gladly do all of the above. Let me know what you need to see.

Dirk Gently. |

Does that perhaps mean that Dirk could get Trained in Culture and Pilot?

Same here! Just for clarity, is it a rank? Or a bonus? Zem's diplomacy is as yet untrained.
Also, how do I get the sheet to reflect that?

If you're not just relaxing and enjoying the trip and want to dedicate the time to one single skill, you could get a single point.

It will be a rank towards one skill that you are not currently trained in. In the sheet, you can just add a point. It will put the counter into the negatives, but that's fine.

Dirk Gently. |

So, not Trained. Only a Rank, which is still really generous. Thank you!
@Group Culture or Pilot? I may at 3rd make them class skills anyway depending on the game.

The Lost Voice |

So, not Trained. Only a Rank, which is still really generous. Thank you!
Having a rank in a skill would make you "Trained", right? I may be misunderstanding though. I'd like to use this to emphasize the level and prestige of the school and its networking skill. It's easy to get the basics, and their resources are top-tier.
In terms of the interviews, we can handle those off-screen. Are there any companies that your character would be interested in? What is that company's focus? Are there any others? This can be a listed Manufacturer or a created one, but For each interview, there'll only be one Diplomacy Check.

Dirk Gently. |

Apologies. Too much PF2e...
I meant Class Skill. A Rank is sweet. Thanks!
Dirk was recruited out of Highschool...lol.

Anything where her limited skill set would be of use. Pilot, Bodyguard, *cough*smuggler*cough*. XD
Am I right in thinking that this is just going through the motions and we eventually join up with/become associated with the Starfinder Society?

Sparks Goforth |

I think I missed something, with people talking about adding a rank in a skill as ... I'm not sure why. Could you clarify what is on the table for PCs based on downtime activity over the trip?

Here is the the relevant post, Sparks.

That is the general premise of the Adventure Path, since it serves as a convenient hook with which to direct and inform the party where necessary-- however, there is (some) room to move around.

I saw that but I'm not clear on what is happening to provide that point in diplomacy. Are these actual interviews done virtually or are they simulations of interviews meant for practice? What is an HAC program?

The Lost Voice |
3 people marked this as a favorite. |

The latter. They are simulations meant for practice, and if you utilize them you'll get a point (above and beyond your norm) in Diplomacy. However, the Holographic Amusement Chamber can be utilized for other things, so if the time meant for interviews is irrelevant, it can be configured to train other skills. However, it can only be used to grant one skill point, and only for a skill that you do not have a point in, if it is not Diplomacy.

The Lost Voice |

Seeing as things are tapering off, I'll be moving towards arrival if everyone is good with it?

Sparks Goforth |

I'll use the HAC to pick up a point in Sense Motive instead of diplomacy. Sparks already put a point into diplomacy and his race gives him an additional +2. His bonus is already +10. He'll take training in Sense Motive instead. I chose to leave his Intelligence at 8 and focused his abilities on Charisma, Dexterity, and above average scores in strength, constitution, and Wisdom instead. He'll never be a skill monkey, alas. I hope others can cover the Int-based skills.

Zephyr Starrr |

Zeph totally hacked DIPLO and appreciates it. Happy to do interviews, and of course, Zephyr is most focused on corporations dealing with New Kyonin and Castrovel.

The Lost Voice |

Very well. For those that are at least fielding interviews-- leading into which you learn that it is for a brand rep/sponsorship situation that may grant you perks for the use of your name and likeness for a period of time-- give me a Diplomacy check and am interest or two, similar to Zephyr.
Don't forget your bonus from your designer clothing!

Zephyr Starrr |

and the roll should be DIPLO (with the level of training) + normal bonuses + clothing, right?
As we can imagine, Zephyr desperately wishes that the Base Clothing were Couture to begin with ... but that seems unlikely
We mean this, correct?

For those wishing to have a more active hand in your travel, feel free to roll a relevant check for your station of choice. With the start of Drift Travel, I'll probably put up a post or two, and then everyone will arrive at the docking bay. For those that don't have a comm unit, take one for free, as a base model is practically free, and a little after arriving, the results of the interviews should become available.

Didn't really even think of it until I saw DIrk & Zwm's rolls: this ship has pretty much everything, does it have a Magic Officer Station? Would be happy to make a Mysticism roll if so :)

The Lost Voice |

Given the prevalence of Magic, and the utilization in MagiTech and such, it would not be hard to have a station set up for that use.

The Lost Voice |

Considering there will be a need for it sooner, rather than later, which method of map usage would everyone prefer to use?

Google tends to be simple, but I also think I have a login almost everywhere.

Google maps is kind to my 100% posting source....
I perpetually phone post nowadays.

I use Google Drive with maps created in Google Drawings with a link that gives access and editing rights to anyone with the link. The only drawback is sometimes people with phones cannot do certain things like move an icon.

The Lost Voice |

It appears the board got moved somehow. I've corrected it and should have it fixed in place in a little bit.
So it turns out that I cannot pin it in place, but it is at least centered, so returning it should not be an issue.
I sent a request for access, very glad I'm not up first since how the combat works will likely be where I need the most help. XD
Approved and not a problem. Are there any questions that can be addressed here, so that we will not clutter the Gameplay thread?

Pertinax Islaran |

Durevor, a lanky dwarf of an easy smile on his face, looks away from the taller individual to raise a hand to wave at all of you in a greeting that is a far cry from the High Corporate mannerisms that you have recently experienced in your interviews. Given his appearance, this appointment was more a very casual meet-and-greet than a formal interview of any sort. There is a badge that bears the symbol of the Starfinder Society that stands out on his chest, the color and design of the emblem different enough from the industrial workwear that he wears.
Incredibly suspicious, if you ask me.

I have to say that I have already been enjoying this game. Let's make this one fun everyone!
The premise of this game and the fact I've had been wanting to play this AP has been initially the motivation but I am really getting to enjoy these characters.
@The Lost Voice I do tend to think outside the box, so if I do overstep please let me know.
I enjoy creative nontraditional solutions... lol.

I cannot access the map. If this is on Google Drive, you need to change the access to "Anybody with the link" and give those accessing it editing rights. If you are only listing those with permission to access it, use the email address that I will PM to you next. I also sent a request for approved access.
Regarding the map getting moved, this can happen sometimes when trying to move an icon or some other item on the map. If you accidently move the map, there should be an "undo" button to reset things.
A few other editing options that can help:
1) If one item is covering another interfering with accessing the underlying item, right click on the top item, select "order" and then "Send to Back". Then click on the map and do the same, send it to the back. Now the item that was on top should be underneath but still visible and the new top item can be moved.
2) There are various shapes and lines that can be added to create area of effect perimeters, movement paths, etc.
3) You can enter a text box to describe something, like an area of effect region or to indicate that one is flying and at what altitude, etc.
4) You can paste an image item onto the map for summoned creatures, special effects like a ball of flame, etc. If you paste an animated GIF, it should be animated on the screen. Some PNG format images have transparent regions.
5) Any pasted image can be further adjusted as follows: Right click the item, select "format options" and a sidebar opens with options. You can adjust the transparency level if you want an image to show the underlying parts of the map through the image.
6) There are zoom in and zoom out options in the toolbar if the map is too small or too large. If you click on the zoom icon, then if you right click on the map, it will enlarge and a left click will reduce. After setting the zoom level as desired, click on the icon with the arrow to the right to return the mouse to normal selection mode.

Like I agree for myself AND I agree that Dorien is really in his element on this one ;) it's awesome. The opportunity to play this AP as the SF2e playtest rolls out is really amazing, thank you.
