With the group reporting in ready, Theodore throws open the doors to reveal a large hanger bay. It's completely empty except for two things: a pile of rubble and a fearsome dinosaur-like monster standing on its hind legs, slashing at a wall with claws that somehow sink deep into the metal as if it were paper! The beast turns its head towards you slowly, the keen gaze of a predator narrowing in on new prey!
We'll move to Initiative.

Bold should go!
This encounter takes place on Slide # 2. There are no special terrain features or hazards for this encounter, but please do remember that each square is 10' in scale.
Initiative (Tulgram): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Initiative (Theodore): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Initiative (Xylian): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Initiative (Amhesha): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Initiative (dinosaur): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1
Tulgram Coldforge
Tulgram carefully reaches out with his pole to Theodore and gives him a barely noticeable injection. They have a dinosaur. And we have Theo. He chuckles.
Theo, +1 AC for 9 rounds.
GM Jhaeman
Theodore's skin hardens as Tulgram's custom-crafted chemical races through his veins!
@Everyone: These little buffs can make a big difference in Starfinder, so don't forget to add them to your tagline.
Xylian, Theodore, Amhesha, and Zharis are up. That poor man-eating dinosaur is slow off the mark today!
Zharis
Zharis peeks around Theo and wonders if a stickybomb would help. Better if it wasn't killing everyone while they killed it... but with those claws would it do any good?
Might as well try, since Theo seems scared. She squeezes past him and tosses the grenade at the scary dino's feet.
Throw Grenade: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Save is Reflex 14
Entangled for: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5 rounds.
Tulgram Coldforge
I want to note about grenades that distance penalties go as penalties in the DC of reflex saving throw. Sorry about that.
Xylian Xuuvats
"Hm. It is quite large.
Stride to somehwere around Zharis. Overcharge and shoot.
Hailcannon vs KAC (Ignores up to 4 AC from Cover: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
P + C Damage: 4d8 + 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 8, 6, 7) + (2, 3) + 9 = 40
Amhesha
Amhesha takes a shot at the dinosaur... and utterly fails as she tries to strike the creature, not even her combat tracking exocortex helping her as the slightest as she shakes at the last minute. She then mumbles a few Protean curses under her breath. She then takes a step back. Ideally she'd like to try out her frost Projector, but now is not the time to try newly-installed integrated weaponry in combat against this dinosaur-looking creature.
Horizon Striker, Combat Tracking: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
Zharis
Oh yeah, good point Tulgram. I guess there is a distance penalty because that is a little over 20 feet., so -2 to the throw (won't make a difference), but also to the save (so probably will). Probably too much to hope for that the dino is slow because of its size. :)

Life Science: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 What am I looking at?
Theodore approaches the creature boldly, doing his best to put on an aggressive, commanding aspect, and roars in what he hopes is an intimidating fashion. It's too bad telepathy only works if you share a language. I doubt this thing speaks Common, Draconic, or Vesk.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Probably doesn't work. But it's worth a shot! I needed to get closer anyway.
GM Jhaeman
The adhesive cloud from Zharis' grenade is too weak to even slow such a massive beast, Amhesha's shot doesn't connect, and Theodore's attempt to scare it seems like a gnat trying to frighten wolf.
On the other hand, Xylian's supercold blast certainly has an effect! The dinosaur reels back in pain before clamping its jaws around Theodore and shaking him vigorously back and forth!
The grenade isn't a direct hit, but even if the miss still put the dino in the area of effect, the creature made the save vs the stickybomb grenade and is unaffected.
Xylian's attack hit (Xylian, I moved your token somewhere near Zharis as stated).
Amhesha's nat 1 is a miss, of course.
Theodore's Intimidate (demoralize) attempt fails.
@Theodore: It's actually a Mysticism check to ID this creature.
The dinosaur bites Theodore for 36 F&P damage. In addition, Theodore you are now grappled (Tulgram's booster makes the difference between being pinned instead!).
Reflex save vs grenade: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Bite vs Theodore: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (16) + 24 = 40
damage: 4d6 + 19 ⇒ (6, 5, 3, 3) + 19 = 36

Bold should go!
Please remember that each square is 10' in scale.
You can’t use Stealth to hide from the creature grappling you, even if a special ability allows you to hide when you normally couldn’t. If you become invisible, through a Spell or other ability, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus to your check to escape being grappled, but you receive no other benefit.
Xylian Xuuvats
"Theodore appears to be in distress." Xylian notes, bringing his combat tracking online and launching another chunk of supercooled ice at the dinosaur. Betwixt the laser sight and exocortex, there is minimal chance of him hitting Theodore, despite the difficult conditions.
Move Action to activate Combat Tracking. Standard Action to Overcharge and Shoot.
Hailcannon vs KAC (Ignores up to 4 AC from Cover: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25
P + C Damage: 4d8 + 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (8, 4, 4, 2) + (4, 1) + 9 = 32
Zharis
Doesn't matter, but isn't throwing a grenade against AC 5? An area thing, not an attack against the creature's AC. Not sure how it could have missed. Doesn't work anyway, I get that, and not arguing the outcome (it was a long shot anyway), but just wondering.
Zharis moves to a better position, and shoots at the dino.
Attack (Frosbite Class Zero Pistol): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Flying chunks of supercooled ice glance off the fiery nyssholora's bony armored back as Zharis and Xylian try to find a weak point in the fearsome dinosaur's defences!
Xylian's attack *just* misses.
Zharis' attack misses.
@Zharis: Yep, you're right--I've been running a PF1 alchemist in a campaign where there's a difference in effect between targeting a creature and targeting an intersection with a bomb, but in Starfinder it's just the DC 5 intersection.
Theodore, Tulgram, and Amhesha are up.
Tulgram Coldforge
> Tulgram's booster makes the difference between being pinned instead
This remark made my day a little better! )
It seems like they won't figure out s*** there wi'out uncle Tulgram! Duergar activates the accelerator on his armor and rushes to Theo's aid. Halfway there, however, he turns to the shelter when it seems to him that a sound wave is about to break out of the monster's maw.
Alas, getting close to the creature is double move, even with haste, so for now I will hide from a possible AoE.

Amhesha takes another shot at the creature, sinking into an analytical calm aimed shot as she fires an ice-cold bullet at the creature, hoping it has no resistance to it.
Horizon Striker: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
Damage: 3d4 + 8 - 1 + 1d4 ⇒ (2, 1, 3) + 8 - 1 + (1) = 14
Zharis
Great shot! yells Zharis to Amhesha, making sure the camera gets a good shot of her being a team player. She is also silently a little worried that they are in over their heads, but she maintains her outward confidence and calm for the camera.

I've been in worse scrapes. Theodore sends back to the party, as he fights back against the creature.
Attack, Claw: 1d20 + 15 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 15 - 4 - 2 = 29
Damage, Magical Slashing: 2d6 + 25 ⇒ (2, 2) + 25 = 29
Crit?
Attack, Claw: 1d20 + 15 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 15 - 4 - 2 = 15
Damage, Magical Slashing: 2d6 + 25 ⇒ (3, 3) + 25 = 31
Attack, Claw: 1d20 + 15 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 15 - 4 - 2 = 12
Damage, Magical Slashing: 2d6 + 25 ⇒ (3, 3) + 25 = 31
The Ascetic Warrior Alternate Class Feature gives me the Block weapon property with my unarmed strikes, so I get +1 to AC for the next round because I hit it this round. Also, just for record, I have DR 5/- from my armor so I only took 31 damage.

And you also don't need to confirm crits in SF .)
As I said, they have a dinosaur, we have Theo.
GM Jhaeman
Amhesha lines up a perfect shot, but the dinosaur rears up at the last moment and the shot misses by millimeters! But Theodore uses the distraction to rake a claw into the creature's eye, wounding it grievously! Still, it keeps its teeth clamped down on the uplifted bear, shaking him back and forth before swallowing him down in one big gulp!
Amhesha's attack misses KAC.
Theodore's first attack is a crit and does double damage (Theodore, I just took the first two damage rolls in your post). The other attacks missed. The dinosaur is badly hurt, but not quite at a triggered morale condition.
At the beginning of the nyssholora's turn, Theodore has not escaped the grapple and automatically takes bite damage again due to its Swallow Whole ability. Theodore, you take 34 F&P damage. The dinosaur then tries to swallow him whole, needing to hit (grappled & block) KAC+4. Result: Success. Theodore, you now have the Grappled and Swallowed Whole conditions. I've moved your token underneath the dinosaur's token to represent sharing its space.
bite damage: 4d6 + 19 ⇒ (2, 3, 5, 5) + 19 = 34
Attack vs Theodore (grappled, block): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (12) + 24 = 36
Amhesha
Amhesha sees the wide gulf between her and her target and decides against using the new technology installed in her suit of armor. It wasn't nearly as fancy as the power armor Xylian uses, but it suffices to store what's essentially a cryo-flamethrower up its sleeves.
Now, however? She aims directly for the creature's head as she slowly backs away 5ft .
Horizon Striker v. KAC: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Damage, Aimed Shot: 3d4 + 8 - 1 + 1d4 ⇒ (2, 1, 2) + 8 - 1 + (4) = 16
I swear she's going to use the Frost Projector eventually, she's just kind of a coward... and she'd miss on even a 19 from this far away with a full attack :)
Xylian Xuuvats
Xylian diverts power from his armors legs to the shoulder-mounted cannon to expedite freeing Theo. This time he hits the giant dinosaur that should be difficult to miss.
Move Action to Activate Miracle Worker. Standard Action to Overcharge and Attack.
Hailcannon vs KAC (Ignores up to 4 AC from Cover: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 15 + 2 = 28

The fiery nyssholora takes direct hits from both Amhesha's and Xylian's cryo-blasters! It staggers a few steps before collapsing with a thunderous WHOMP! that shakes the whole building! But despite the victory . . . Theodore is still trapped in the beast's belly!
Amhesha's and Xylian's attacks both hit, taking down the nyssholora--but Theodore is still trapped inside. We'll stay on Initiative until he is freed.
@Theodore: At the beginning of your turn, unless someone's able to cut you free before then, you'll take 38 B&F.
Zharis, Tulgram, and Theodore are up.
swallow whole: 4d6 + 19 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 6) + 19 = 38
Theodore Edward Bear
Cushioned from the fall within the beast's stomach, Theo nevertheless takes some of the shock of the impact. After that, he attempts to tear his way free of the creature.
Do I still need to make attacks? Here they are, just in case.
Attack, Claw: 1d20 + 15 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 15 - 4 - 2 = 12
Damage, Magical/Slashing: 2d6 + 25 ⇒ (2, 3) + 25 = 30
Attack, Claw: 1d20 + 15 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 15 - 4 - 2 = 18
Damage, Magical/Slashing: 2d6 + 25 ⇒ (3, 4) + 25 = 32
GM Jhaeman
As he's being slowly digested and suffocated while trapped inside the fallen dinsosaur's belly, Theodore tries--but fails--to cut himself free!
Theodore's attacks missed.
@Theodore: Yes, attack rolls are still necessary--under the swallow whole rules, there's a special fixed EAC/KAC to cut yourself out of the creature's belly (representing the toughness of its hide, I guess). (unrelated: please don't forget to update your tagline--you've taken a few hits now in this encounter)
Let's see if Zharis or Tulgram can lightsaber this tauntaun!

Old Theo really knows how ta surprise... Tulgram mutters something under his breath and rushes to the rescue of the stranded bear. He throws down his pole and takes out the captured efreeti's trophy blade, rightly assuming that in order to free Theo, the carcass must be cut.

Zharis grabs the claw she got from the other dinosaur and using that and her own claws, tries to help cut Theo free.
Attack (claws: slashing): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Damage: 1d3 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
The beast's claws seem able to cut through anything, which is why she tries with them, but not sure if they will help, especially with that sort of a roll. Below is another roll in case it goes to another round... might be unavailable tomorrow (holiday here).
Attack (claws): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Damage: 1d3 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17
GM Jhaeman
Tulgram's blade cuts deep into the creature's belly, slicing away several layers of its thick, muscular abdomen. The squirming shape of what must be Theodore can be barely discerned kicking and struggling through the thin layers of flesh that remain! Zharis tries to claw her way through, but gets snagged on thick gristle until she tries another angle. Suddenly, covered in burns and digestive acids, Theodore rolls to the floor!
Tulgram's attack hit; one more like that and Theodore will be free.
Zharis' first attack misses, but her second one in the spoiler hits and does enough damage to free Theodore.
We are off Initiative. (@Theodore: Please don't forget to update your tagline--by my count, even with the DR, you're now through SP and into HP damage)
Zharis
Zharis takes this one's claws and teeth as well, and then goes to open the door further into the tower. If it is locked, she tries the keycard they found on Nurleth.
Tulgram Coldforge
I might want to give first aid to Theo, but for that I need to understand how much HP he has lost.
Xylian Xuuvats

Was the dinosaur a native to the star, or was it brought here intentionally from the outside? Both possibilities are equally intriguing. Xylian looks for a powered-armor-sized motorcycle, but examines the other vehicles as well. "A short-range transport that can fly below the flak cannons would be useful."
:p
Zharis
Zharis says
Going to make sure there isn't anyone else here while you work on stealing a ride... make sure it will fit in the cargo bay.
She checks for messages on her comm just in case something came in from her family's lawyer, and then moves to the next double doors.
Amhesha
Amhesha checks over the various vehicles, seeing if there is any sort of electronic security or the like that need accessing in order to unlock them.
"You guys run into that symbol before?" she says as she points to the 8 pointed-star. "Some kind of religious symbol, maybe?"
Theodore Edward Bear
Sorry about that, SP/HP should be up to date now.
Attack, Claw: 1d20 + 15 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 15 - 4 = 25
Damage, Magical/Slashing: 2d6 + 25 ⇒ (3, 1) + 25 = 29
Attack, Claw: 1d20 + 15 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 15 - 4 = 24
Damage, Magical/Slashing: 2d6 + 25 ⇒ (1, 4) + 25 = 30
Superfluous extra damage +bleed from Brutal Slash, but that doesn't matter right now.
Finally getting his claws into a weakend part of the beast's hide, Theodore rips in opposite directions, tearing a ragged hole big enough to fit through. He scrambles out on all fours, then practically collapses a few feet in front of the others, laying there and breathing in air that doesn't smell like stomach acid for a moment. He has the the presence of mind (barely) not to shake himself like a wet dog and fling goo on everyone. Finally, he rises. Uh, anyone got a spell for he gestures to the gore still dripping off of him this? Or maybe a hose?
Amhesha
"Wait. I just realized," Amhesha interjects, "are any of us capable of magic, as in like a mystic or a technomancer?"
Zharis
Nope. I can cast spells from spell crystals and know a few stage tricks, but I'm not a mystic or anything close, really. And Tulgram there is the closest thing we have to a healer.
GM Jhaeman
Xylian inspects the vehicles in the hangar bay. Parked here is a hover truck with passenger seating for 16 in its expansion bay) and four all-terrain hover transports. Curiously, although each vehicle has a recognisable biometric starter, there are no external driving controls on the dashboards!
Zharis conducts a sweep of the rest of the complex and discovers a control room with computer consoles obviously designed to raise and lower the hangar doors, track incoming vehicles, and schedule departures. The transparent windows have some cracks, indicating the control tower was damaged when the starship crashed just outside.
Zharis
Zharis checks out the computers to see if she can figure out how to raise and lower the doors.
Computers: 1d20 + 13 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 13 + (1) + 2 = 31
Amhesha
Amhehsha also attempts to see if she can do anything with the computers, using her custom rig to pull up whatever might be needed in the moment, either from within the computer system or outside of it.

Tulgram hands Theo a handkerchief. One piece. Get used ta it, soldier. Let's patch up your wounds. And he gives a small injection to the place where the uplifted bear has the most bruises.
Medicine: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (13) + 22 = 35 - DC25 to restore HP (CR of the creature + my WIS + my level) = 23 HP. Theo, anything above your maximum HP goes to SP (although it probably doesn't matter if we'll have 10 minutes to rest).
...Tulgram there is the closest thing we have to a healer.
In response, the duergar mutters something unintelligible that magic is overrated, dancing with a tambourine is for the ignorant, and once in our high-tech world, technology will develop sufficiently so that non-magical healing will be on the same level as magical. For example, in the second edition. But all this is so unintelligible and nasal that most likely you have no desire to answer it.
GM Jhaeman
Tulgram's injection works (non-magical) wonders on Theodore's wounds, while Zharis and Amhesha put their pahtra heads together to figure out how to activate the computer-controlled door controls.
Meanwhile, Xylian gets under the hood of the vehicles and makes a startling discovery!
GM Jhaeman
As promised, Zhyffor arrives with an extraction team in a large hover truck. Emotions of great respect--almost awe--emanate from them telepathically as they look at the corpse of the nyssholora you've slain! "Truly, truly, you are magnificent warriors!"
His agents begin setting up holoprojectors and antipathy emitters to disguise the Sun Runner. "Your vessel will be safe here. Are you ready to come with us? Please, anyone whom you do not trust fully should remain behind, as the resistance cannot afford any betrayal."
Zharis
We are not quite ready, but we will be soon.
Zharis goes into the ship to talk to their friends.
We're leaving the ship here. Do you want to stay with it, or come with us to meet the natives?
Depending on what everyone wants to do, Zharis is concerned with how they will handle Nurleth. She doesn't necessarily want to lose her as a bargaining chip, or let her go. If they turned her over to the natives, she has no doubt that she would be summarily executed, with just cause, for the torture she had been involved with... maybe they could put her into stasis until she found out if the invaders were willing to trade?
In any case, it depended on what everyone wanted to do. She wanted everyone to come, but she also wanted to be certain the ship was safe... it was their only way off the planet.
She uses a telepathic message to contact Zhyffor.
Zhyffor, if we put a telepathic being into stasis, will anyone be able to detect her here?
Maybe they should leave Vessu behind as well... she is still determined to help him, but she doesn't want him to be tempted, again, to betrayal.
What do you all think?
