H is hobgoblin?

NPCs, Handouts, and Maps

Yeah, sorry -- I realize now I should have been consistent. H = hobgoblin = Bulak

Leave the little bun alone!!

CG human ftr 2| AC 16 (18) | hp 17/20 (2/2 HD) | Saves: S +5, D +2, C +4, I +0, W +0, Ch -1 | Insp [ ] | Second Wind used [ x ] | Action Surge [ x ] | Passive Per 12

If no one heals him, Death Save 1: 1d20 ⇒ 5

current hp 0/20, 1 fail.

I do not think that I can heal you :(, maybe our former cleric now fighter can help take down the big bad.

F Illuskan Human | HP 17 | AC 17 | HD: 2d8+2 Skills: Insight +5, Medicine +5 | Disadv. on Stealth Saves: S 2, D 1, C 2, I 0, W 3, Ch -1 | Init 1 | PP 13 | Speed 30'

Mace to wolf: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Torn between trying to kill the wolf and helping Toki, Braith takes a wild swing at the wolf, and then casts Healing Word on Toki. She is tired, out of spells, and not doing well, but she has her faith to keep that mace swinging.

Healing Word: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Just waiting on some actions from Jaylen and Jacka-Lope

Has the in absencia charavter acted?

I will resolve Gideon's actions at when I do the round summary -- he is the last person to act in the round. Actions remaining for Round 3 below in bold (Braith has posted their action, but I'll resolve it in turn order).

Round 3
Toki (0 /20)

Goblin 1
Goblin 3 (-10)
Wolf 1
Bulak (-5)

Jaylen (14 / 34)
Jacka-Lope (14 / 17)
Braith (6 /17)
Gideon (8 /13)

Jack a Lope gives the hobgoblin a disapproving look for hitting him and then uses his connectionto the fey to try to scare the hobby gobby and other baddies away

Once per short rest, as an action, you can cause each creature in a 10-ft. cube from you to make a WIS saving throw (DC 13) or become charmed or frightened by you (your choice) until the end of your next turn.

Male, CN Human Moon Druid of 2 | HPs 13/13 | AC: 16 (with shield) | Init: +1 | Saves S:-1, D:+1, C:+0, I:+4, W:+5, C:+2 | PP 15

Jaylen swats the wolf attempting to knock the wolf to the side and hopefully unconscious.

Claw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Slashing: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 1) + 4 = 9

Bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Piercing: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

if the swat doesn’t work, he will use his maw to finish using Subdual damage on the wolf. If the swat works, he will move to the remaining goblin and chomp down on the creature.

NPCs, Handouts, and Maps

Jaylen smacks the wolf with a mighty paw, then places his powerful jaws around the wolf's throat until it surrenders.

The cute little bunny suddenly flickers, replaced briefly by a terrible, menacing, fey. The red gem around Bulak's throat flares red in opposition:

WIS save, adv, Goblin: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 51d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
WIS save, adv, Bulak: 1d20 ⇒ 201d20 ⇒ 6

The power of Goblinwrath wins out!

Braith takes a swing at the remaining goblin, but melee combat just has not been going her way today! Luckily, a quiet prayer heals Toki.

Gideon pokes out once more at the goblin:
Rapier: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 231d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
finally managing to breach the goblin's defenses, and the goblin slides to the floor.

Round 4
Toki (7 /20)

Bulak (-5)

Jaylen (14 / 34)
Jacka-Lope (14 / 17)
Braith (6 /17)
Gideon (8 /13)

Toki is conscious again (if prone) at the start of Round 4, so feel free to post an action instead of that death save. Only Bulak is left, so I imagine this will go quickly!

Did he scare any of the wolves?

There was only one wolf left and Jaylen killed it just before you used this ability.

CG human ftr 2| AC 16 (18) | hp 17/20 (2/2 HD) | Saves: S +5, D +2, C +4, I +0, W +0, Ch -1 | Insp [ ] | Second Wind used [ x ] | Action Surge [ x ] | Passive Per 12

Toki walks up to the grand doors of the Mead Hall, the sounds of merriment within, and reaches to the rings. As he reaches out, the door swings open and a tall warrior stares down at him.

It is not time for you yet, young Toki. Your friends call you back to the living...

Toki frowns, frustrated, but hears Braith's gentle words coaxing him back to the lands of the living... Save a place for me Baldur, I will return!

--

The northman's eyes flutter open, and Toki knows what must be done! Snatching up his axe, he rolls to his feet and charges at the hobgoblin calling to his gods! Valkur smite you!

handaxe: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 F*ck. I don't suppose I can have Inspiration? XD Oh well, so much for looking cool... Maybe, at least, it will work for a distraction...

NPCs, Handouts, and Maps

Baldur stamps your frequent flyer card as you fade away.

Unfortunately, you get a head rush from standing too quickly, and you stand clutching your head as the darkness threatens to take you again instead of swinging.

In any case, Bulak ignores you: "Dirty fey 'canist," he growls, as he swings again at the little harengon. "I've seen your true nature now, monster!"

Longsword, adv: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 241d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d8 + 2 + 1d8 ⇒ (5) + 2 + (4) = 11
Wow -- lots of crits this battle. Too bad I can't roll them when I'm a PC. Jacka-Lope takes 11 damage.

Round 4 (cont'd)
Toki (7 /20)

Bulak (-5)

Jaylen (14 / 34)
Jacka-Lope (3 / 17)
Braith (6 /17)
Gideon (8 /13)

Everyone may post their actions!

CG human ftr 2| AC 16 (18) | hp 17/20 (2/2 HD) | Saves: S +5, D +2, C +4, I +0, W +0, Ch -1 | Insp [ ] | Second Wind used [ x ] | Action Surge [ x ] | Passive Per 12

Toki growls and moves into the flank, The gods are watching... You will not ignore me!

handaxe: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 Better...
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Jack a Lope got hit hard. The dumb hobgoblin was going to get it for hitting him.
Allowing the barbarian to come up and flank the hobgoblin, he sees a chance to get away wanting to provide the flank and uses his bunny legs to leap away in a way only the bunny can do

Yoo hoo, he waves as he lands trying to get the hobgoblin's attention [/b] I'll make ya famous [/b] as he turns his little paws into a gun shape

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 witches bolt
1d12 ⇒ 6 electricity

Let's give 'im a proper New Mexico burial... *proceeds to kick dirt on the body*

I love Young Guns II

One of my favorites alongside Tombstone...

F Illuskan Human | HP 17 | AC 17 | HD: 2d8+2 Skills: Insight +5, Medicine +5 | Disadv. on Stealth Saves: S 2, D 1, C 2, I 0, W 3, Ch -1 | Init 1 | PP 13 | Speed 30'

Mace: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
If at first you don't succeed, do the same flippin' thing lol.

Braith takes a moment to center herself, and takes what she hopes is a final swing....

NPCs, Handouts, and Maps

Jaylen-as-bear lumbers over:
Claw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Slashing: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 1) + 4 = 7

Bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Piercing: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

As a group, you make absolute mincemeat of Bulak the hobgoblin. Everybody's attacks hit!

The gem around his neck gives a final pulse of red that expands out in a circle, spreading through the walls of the cave and beyond. [ooc]The more intuitive among you suspect that it is calling out any other goblinoids who might be in the area.

You quickly grab the gem and the treasure chest next to the throne.

Shall we return to town, then? Maybe find a place that we can rest, if it is too far... Toki grimaces as he holds his wound...

NPCs, Handouts, and Maps

Toki and Braith manage to wrestle the chest between them and, with Gideon's stealth and Jaylen's woodcraft, you are able to make your way back to the village of Lehigh without incident.

Antola Pilark, the Great Druid, thanks you for your service to the village: "Truly, we could not have held out much longer. The greater question that my colleagues and I would like to answer is how Bulak came to possess such an evil item. You might not be aware, but there's a war in Dernall Forest, and such powerful magic could have shifted the balance of power."

Antola thinks that the curse of Goblinwrath can be ... if not removed, then modified, contained, leaving you with a different sort of magical gem.

As for Bulak's hoard...

These adventures don't have specific treasures, so I'm going to roll on the tables in the DMG

DM Rolls:

6d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 3, 1, 6) = 21 copper
3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4) = 14 silver
2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 gold

1d100 ⇒ 101d100 ⇒ 93
2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7 gems, worth 50gp each
1d4 ⇒ 2
1d100 ⇒ 47

2,100 copper pieces
1,400 silver pieces
50 gold pieces
7 gems worth 50 gp each (350 gp)
Rod of the Pact Keeper (+1)
Gem of Wrath (i.e., the converted Goblinwrath gem)

I'll post an adventure summary in the Discussion thread

Not a bad haul! Time for mead!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You will notice that I did not roll for treasure until after you made it back to town -- I did not want to have to think about encumbrances :P

Toki would have dragged it if he had to! XD
