DM Paguroid |

is there any way to turn the wolves to our side of say I were in the form of a wolf?
Insight: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Jaylen, you realize that, even though the "training" by the goblins is probably pretty weak, you would need to make a display of dominance in order to get the wolves to respect you (which I'll say is going to involve attacking them with non-lethal damage until they submit). That's going to be difficult with the goblins and your party in the melee.
Also Jaylen, fyi that your D&D Beyond character sheet is turned to private, so I can't see it.

Braith Ablewillow |

Stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Armor is loud (disadv): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Braith whispers that she will follow last, as there is little chance of her metal armor not alerting the goblins, but she'll try. And she agrees to not attack the wolves, or at least do as little damage if they attack her as possible.
While you rarely see her cast spells, she appears to be focusing her prayer into her hand, which begins to glow slightly. -- Just flavor text in case she gets to cast Guiding Bolt, not actually casting yet.

DM Paguroid |

Unfortunately, it is difficult to move quietly along the deer track: despite your efforts, Braith's scale armour creaks ominously and Jaylen lets go of a branch at just the wrong moment, smacking Gideon in the face.
The wolves begin barking and growling, alerting the goblins to your approach. Gripping the leashes tightly, the sentries retreat into the mouth of the cave, shouting a warning to those inside.
Map updated

Braith Ablewillow |

Braith mutters something about wolves can't eat armor let's go, and she starts to move down the path, spell at the ready.
If she gets a chance / sees an enemy -- but trying to avoid the wolves if our resident Druid is still trying to make friendly -- she will loose that Guiding Bolt, so just in case --> 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 ugh and probably missing, radiant dam: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 2) = 5. Digital dice roller FTLoss.

DM Paguroid |

Okay, so assuming everyone is going to follow you into the cave, I've moved the avatars and updated the map. Toki is away this week, so I put him in the lead, putting him in melee with the three wolves.
Braith, I advanced you another square from where you were because you would not have been able to see around the corner. You have line of sight on G2 and W3, the others have varying amounts of cover.
Jaylen, you have line of sight on G1, but the others have cover. The rest of you can't see anything yet.
I have to go out to run some errands, but I'll try to get back to this in the evening to roll initiatives and attacks. In the meantime, let me know if you think the positioning of your minis should be different.

DM Paguroid |

Sorry for the delay -- I wasn't feeling well yesterday

Yeah, we have the office bug going around too. Never mind the fact that we all work from home and on two different coasts. Surely it’s just a season change, but regardless, hope you feel better!
Would my guiding bolt have gone off, even though it probably failed? Or should I roll a melee attack?

DM Paguroid |

A fun new thing that's been happening in the last few years is that I occasionally get migraines. Ibuprofen didn't do much to slow it down yesterday, and when I finally got it under control I slept for a couple of hours.
You can use the Guiding Bolt as your Round 1 action or do something else now that you can see the situation. There isn't room for you to make a melee attack, though, as Toki is acting as the cork in this bottleneck.

Braith Ablewillow |

Ugh on the migraines! I had one once, that was enough for me to have deep empathy for those who get them, well, any more than once. Hope you find something that helps alleviate the pain when they do happen, no bueno.
Braith sticks with that Guiding Bolt to the goblin she can see G2, probably grazing his head as I only had an 11. She stays put but hollers at Toki to push in or step back, knowing full well he probably can't hear her in the thick of things in case you wanna stay there for a round or two, it's cool.

Toki Sigurdson |

Spinning his axe, Toki swings down on W3 with the butt! handaxe, nonlethal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 I hope that hit...

Jaylen Greystone |

Jaylen, trying not to hurt the wolves would like to throw an Ice Knife at the cage behind the middle goblin. This would then explode into cold damage on the goblins with a saving throw involved. Trick is that the spell technically says creature as a target. If you stick with the creature, we’ll say the cage is what he was targeting but mistreated and it would hit the goblin by mistake including all of the wolves in the area.
Ice Knife: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Piercing: 1d10 ⇒ 7
Cold: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10
Looking around the cave bend, Jaylen sees that all of the enemies are grouped but also a bottle neck. Jaylen slides his palms together producing a frozen knife made of ice, and then hurls it toward the goblins.

DM Paguroid |

Cool idea! A seven is a miss, of course, but D&D doesn't appear to have rules about missing with a grenade, so we'll just say you hit the ground by the cage (rather than, say, the cave wall next to Toki!).
G1 DEX save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
G2 DEX save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Goblin 1 is pelted with shards of ice from Jaylen's spell, but the other dodges out of the way. Braith and Toki make some brave attacks, but do not quite manage to hit home.
W1 vs Toki: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 152d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 2 = 7
W2 vs Toki: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 152d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 2 = 7
W3 vs Toki: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 172d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9
G1 vs Jaylen: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 161d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
G2 vs Braith: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 211d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
G3 vs Toki: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 171d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Three wolves snarl and bite at Toki, but none manage to hit! The fighter also manages to get his shield up in time to block an arrow from Goblin 3.
Jaylen and Braith are not so lucky, as they each are hit by an arrow!
Round 2

![]() |

Gideon finally realizes there is danger afoot and opens up on W2 with a hopefully well aimed arrow.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 Bow
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Arrow
Which hits some branches on the way to the target lessening its impact.

Braith Ablewillow |

Braith sighs in frustration at the bottleneck, and seeing as how her spell didn't land, she goes with a Bless. Her prayer to the Earthmother is heard by all, and especially felt by Toki, Gideon and Jaylen.
You bless up to three creatures of your choice within range. Whenever a target makes an attack roll or a saving throw before the spell ends, the target can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to the attack roll or saving throw. Lasts 1 minute with concentration.

Toki Sigurdson |

Toki aims to knock out Wolf 3 again!
Handaxe, nonlethal: 1d20 + 5 + 1d4 ⇒ (12) + 5 + (1) = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
EDIT: [ooc]If that somehow drops it, I will move up into its space.[/dice]

Jaylen Greystone |

let’s try it one more time still trying to hit all three goblins with the ice shattering ice knife grenade.
Ice Knife: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Piercing: 1d10 ⇒ 7
DC 13 dex, cold damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8

DM Paguroid |

@Gideon and Jaylen: Just a reminder that there are empty spaces behind Toki. From your current positions, your targets have a lot of cover (you've rolled well, so that's not a problem this time). Jaylen, from where you are, it isn't possible to get G3 with the grenade.
G1 DEX save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
G2 DEX save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Gideon's arrow scrapes along W2's ribs as Toki bonks W3 on the head, knocking the wolf unconscious. Jaylen throws another ice grenade, but this time the goblins are ready for it and dodge out of the way. Braith calls upon the Earthmother to bless the party, and Jacka-Lope continues to guard the rear.
W1 vs Toki: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 172d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 = 7
W2 vs Toki: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 112d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 = 8
G1 vs Jaylen: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 71d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
G2 vs Braith: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 91d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
G3 vs Toki: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 181d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The remaining two wolves snarl and gnash but they're unable to pierce Toki's defenses. While he's distracted, though, G3 is able to sink an arrow into his thigh (4 dam). The other two goblins attempt to strike Jaylen and Braith again but are unsuccessful.

Braith Ablewillow |

Can I get into base contact with either of the wolves?
Evens Braith will try to lure a wolf away, odds she decides Toki's in trouble and intends to attack the wolf. 1d2 ⇒ 1. Ah well tbf she's been hit herself so that tracks.
If Braith can get to a wolf, she moves up and attacks. Mace: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 hahahahahaha.

DM Paguroid |

Ah -- I did not remember the disadvantage for shooting into melee. Of course, I also did not remember that wolves have advantage if their opponent is next to an ally ;)
I moved Braith and Gideon on the map.

Jaylen Greystone |

Jaylen moves up behind Gideon and looking around everyone lets a blast of frosty ice flow from his fingers at the Goblin in front of Toki.
Con DC 13, fail and take: 1d6 ⇒ 2 cold damage and disadvantage on its next attack roll.

DM Paguroid |

Botting Toki:
Handaxe, nonlethal: 1d20 + 5 + 1d4 ⇒ (3) + 5 + (2) = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Toki Sigurdson |

Oop, I missed that the round had refreshed! Sorry!
Toki swings at W2, again with the butt of his axe!
Handaxe, nonlethal: 1d20 + 5 + 1d4 ⇒ (13) + 5 + (4) = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

![]() |

That's weird. I moved Gideon on the map myself. Guess it didn't save for some reason. Looks like there is no room to close... so guess he'll keep shooting arrows.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Bow @ Wolf 2 (Assuming some penalty for a PC in the way).
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Arrow (Piercing).
And with a loud twang his bow string breaks. He looks at it as though it insulted him throws it down, and reaches for his rapier.
"What's going on up there? I can barely see".
Okay. 2-nat 1's in a row. I'm just assuming his bow string breaks.

DM Paguroid |

That's weird. I moved Gideon on the map myself. Guess it didn't save for some reason.
I can't remember what things looked like -- it's possible an extra square opened up when I moved Braith.

Braith Ablewillow |

Yikes! Only 6 HP left for Braith. C'mon stupid dice!
Mace: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19, Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Wacking away at the same wolf, hoping to unstop the bottleneck.

Jaylen Greystone |

Frost Bite, CON 13 or take: 1d6 ⇒ 5 cold damage and disadvantage on attacks until my next turn.
Is it getting cold in here?, Jaylen let’s loose another burst of cold toward [ooc]goblin 3[/dice]

DM Paguroid |

Toki downs Wolf 2 before Braith can get to it, so the cleric pivots to whack Wolf 1 instead I assume you do not want to move into the W2 space, since that would provoke an AoO
W1 vs Toki, adv: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 141d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 122d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 2 = 7

@Jaylen: I only just noticed that you only have 13 HP, which means that attack last round would have put you under. I won't bother revising it, but you should roll a Death save for next round.
Everyone may post their actions.
Lots of terrible rolls all around -- I did not expect this battle to go on so long!

DM Paguroid |

Is there a way to break the bottle neck so that he can move in and see things?
At this point, only if someone is willing to accept an Attack of Opportunity from Wolf 1 in order to move into the space next to Toki. (Jacka-Lope can also reach this space -- moving through an ally's space is allowed)

Braith Ablewillow |

Now I'm the bottleneck, but with only 6hp left I think retreating would be fatal.
C'mon mace: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Smush the bad doggy: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Yeah Imma dog person, that was deserved lol
Braith is fading but still manages to crack the wolf on the head again.

Jaylen Greystone |

Were you not still wildshaped? I have been out of it!
I did not use a wild shape this fight. I was saving it for an I counter with the wolves to try to tame them but this bottle neck has pretty much taken the fight outa me. Lol Most of the good things to turn into are large as well making it additionally difficult.

DM Paguroid |

Now I'm the bottleneck, but with only 6hp left I think retreating would be fatal.
Note that you could also take the Disengage action

DM Paguroid |

I am not seeing anyway for me to move in, unless, I am planning this out,
Can he move, bonus action to bunny hop into the room, and then do an action?
This is a good idea, but I think you would have to bunny hop from an unoccupied space (or at least, not as you are squeezing past an ally in a tight passageway).
So... okay, since we're going to bot him anyway, I'm going to move Gideon up to face off against G1, which will give you the room to bounce up next to Toki. Your Rabbit Hop is 10' and doesn't provoke AoO, but it does use up your Bonus Action. Also note that you will be in melee with G2.
I guess another option would be to just occupy Gideon's space (between Braith and Jaylen) and then cast spells from there.

DM Paguroid |

@Jacka-Lope: This is going to miss regardless, but I believe ranged attacks (including ranged spell attacks) are at disadvantage in melee.
