DM Paguroid |
Pirate 1, now swordless, is in front of you. Behind them is Pirate 2, with keys in hand (he just used them to uncuff Jacka-Lope). And Jacka-Lope is behind Pirate 2, being pushed through the door. You could Action Surge to grab Pirate 2 or try to steal the keys (though, imo, you might want to save that for later!).
Braith Ablewillow |
So Jack had himself free and friendly, then the guards were attacked by Toki, leaving Jack still free, the door open and two guards backing up. Yeah?
Seeing how easily the guards were charmed before, she tries a different sort of charm. DROP! she says to the guard with the keys.
This is the Command Spell, please kindly fail a DC 13 Wisdom save. The spell even had exactly what I wanted, "Drop. The target drops whatever it is holding and then ends its turn.", and it's Verbal only, I checked this time.
Toki Sigurdson |
Since I haven't moved, can I have moved into the doorway to block their exit after disarming Pirate 1 with his blade? (Snatching it as a interact action?)

Not really -- not without shoving Pirate 2 (and possibly Jacka-Lope) out of the way and/or opening yourself up to an attack of opportunity).
@Braith: I'll roll that check on the pirates' turn, since that's when the action happens.
Jaylen Greystone |
well Jaylen was intending not to shift unless needed but it seems the snake is outa the bag now.
Jaylens arms and legs begin to shrink and shrivel as his body transform and elongates. The transformation is quick, and by the end Jaylen is a reptile the size of an adult human. Coiled where Jaylen once stood, the giant viper strikes out at the closest guard.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Piercing: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
DC 11 CON: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1) = 8poison damage. Half on a success
DM Paguroid |
Just a reminder (since the initiative list is on the other page) that Gideon and Jacka-Lope can still post actions for this round.
Gideon Dawnbringer |
Gideon tries to walk up the wall backwards to bring pressure on the cuffs from a different angle and see if he can either slip out or cause the nails holding the manacles to the wall to loosen.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 Acrobatics.
Then if that is successful, he'll try to wield the chains as a weapon and provide flanking opportunities to someone.
DM Paguroid |

I mean, I would definitely not have thought of that! I'll say that it works because you rolled well and it's a cool idea. It'll be your Action for this round, though, but I moved you to flank with Toki.
Seeing Toki's success with the chaings, Gideon does a fancy flip-twist, using the strength of the chains against themselves, and suddenly yanks his shackles from the wall. Landing deftly on his feet, he moves menacingly over to the pirate.
WIS save, disadv: 1d20 ⇒ 81d20 ⇒ 10
Braith shouts at the pirate, who is so shocked, he drops the keys -- right into Jacka-Lope's waiting hand.
CON save, disadv: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 21d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 omg
Meanwhile, the snake (Jaylen) lashes out at the pirate, piercing his femoral artery. As blood sprays across the room, the other pirate begins screaming incoherently. He shoves Jacka-Lope through the door, twists and presses the harengon up against it poking him in the ribs with his sword: "Lock. The. Door." he growls.
Grapple: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Jacka-Lope, feel free to oppose the grapple with either Athletics or Acrobatics
Round 2
Toki [blessed]
Gideon [blessed]
Braith
Jaylen [blessed, snake-ified]
Jacka-Lope
Pirate
DM Paguroid |
Oh! Yes, I meant to add that and posted without adding it. Go for it!
Er... just Toki, that is. He's the only one in melee with the remaining pirate.
Toki Sigurdson |
I am assuming scimitar or shortsword?
Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
I hope that's enough! XD
DM Paguroid |
Okay, I thought you'd be using an improvised weapon, but I scrolled up and saw that you wanted to grab the scimitar as a free action earlier.
As the pirate is pushing his way out of the brig, Toki slashes him in the side, causing severe injury, but it is not quite enough to kill him.
Round 2
Toki [blessed]
Gideon [blessed]
Braith
Jaylen [blessed, snake-ified]
Jacka-Lope [grappled]
Pirate
The pirate is badly injured, but he's now on the other side of the door, pressing Jacka-Lope up against it like a huma... er... harengon-shield. You can attack him through the door, but he has cover.
Everyone may post their actions!
DM Paguroid |
Hmm.. It might be tough for Toki to attack through the bars with a scimitar anyway, but Jaylen could slither through them or Jacka-Lope could make an attack.
DM Paguroid |
Go for it! I mean, there's always a chance that you will hit Jack, since he's right in front of the pirate, but basically, a very low roll will hit the door and there's a very narrow range in between hitting the Jack and hitting the pirate (i.e., there's not a huge difference between their respective ACs). So, if you're going to miss, miss big!
Jaylen Greystone |
Do you think Jaylen can squeeze between the bars? I’d like to get on the other side of the guard. I wish I could speak in animal form.
Ooc]If he can squeeze[/ooc]
Jaylen slithers through the bards to end up flanking the guard but he doesn’t strike right away, not wanting to endanger Jack, but ready to strike if the guard makes one wrong move. Readied action to strike the guard if he goes to attack the bunny
Readied attack if needed: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Piercing: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 poison Damage, DC 11 Con, 1/2 on success: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 1) = 5
If he can’t squeeze through Jaylen slithers back and forth anxiously as if pacing before coiling near the door ready to spring forth if the door opens.[/ooc]Readied action to dash if the gate opens. Either to flank to the guard or chase him if he runs away.
DM Paguroid |
Oh yeah, you can for sure move through the bars. And, since you can place yourself on the other side of the pirate, there's no danger of hurting Jack, so I'm just going to go ahead and say that you make your attack, which kills the pirate.
End of combat!
Braith Ablewillow |
It all happened so fast, Braith just looks around frantically trying to figure out her next move. When she realizes all that's happened, she barks out a quick laugh. Moving up the wall, Gideon, wow, and, and, a....a snake? You're a snake, Jaylen! Also nice catch, and nice moves. she says to Jack and Toki in turn.
I feel she'd just be really impressed with that little bit of uncoordinated awesomeness cuz player was certainly impressed.
Jack, after you unlock the door, toss us the keys yeah?
Gideon Dawnbringer |
Gideon patiently awaits the unlocking of his shackles, while watching the guard convulsing on the floor.
"Nasty way to die I'd say".
When he can he'll take a blade from one of the pirates... assuming they have one and end the poisoned ones suffering.
Braith Ablewillow |
So, assuming we get everyone unshackled and free. Our gear is "in the forward hold", so that's probably what we need to sneak off and get next. And along the way we can decide how we're gonna get off this ship...or take it back. Yeah?
Toki Sigurdson |
We would need to get them first, but then we would need to find out where we are. Are we close enough to land to swim? Can we commandeer the ship? Can we target leadership? Those kinds of things...
DM Paguroid |
A reminder that you saw where your gear was stowed -- in the forward hold, one level above you. From what the guards were grumbling about, you know that you've dropped anchor and are near the pirates' base -- most of the crew have gone ashore, which is why the guards were so grumpy.
If you take a look a the map, you can see that you are on the bottom deck of the ship. You are in the main cargo hold, half of which has been converted into a brig, but even in the area where the guards were sitting, there are chains on the walls. You get the impression that a lot of revenue must be generated from the slave trade.
You saw a little bit of the mid-deck and the top deck as you were being dragged below. I've blacked out the areas you couldn't see.
DM Paguroid |
Oh right: The pirates each have a scimitar and leather armour, but not much else of interest. Maybe a third of a bottle of gin...
Braith Ablewillow |
Let's make sure these guys aren't spotted, and then let's sneak up to the next level and see if we can't grab our stuff. If we can get the rest of the crew, we might be able to stealthily take the ship back. Or just sneak away. But let's not stick around here!
She picks up one of the guards' blades and makes sure none are left behind.
DM Paguroid |
You gather up the two blades and head toward the companionway to mid-deck. The halflings, mostly beaten up and quite fearful, thank you for releasing them, but they will be following you at a distance.
I'll need Stealth rolls, if that's how you plan to proceed.
DM Paguroid |
Since we're not in armor, no disadvantage!
[dice=Stealth]1d20+1
Actually, your armor is the only piece of equipment that you have!
