Stokes Celerity |

Stokes gathers up the water inside the dead millipedes, drawing them back into a swirl.
◆ Gather Elements
He strikes the swarm with the water.
◆ Elemental Blast, Melee: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
Bludgeoning, Melee: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 = 8
He then withdraws from the swarm.

The physical assault against the millipede swarm continues! Their multiple bodies makes it so the attacks are not as effective as one may hope against a singular enemy.

Kazavel "Ashes" Aldaris |

Ashes' fingers come together to form a square, with the index of each hand touching the thumb of the other. He takes a momentary gaze through the not-so-metaphorical window before clicking his tongue.
"Tsk. Still a bit too crowded. Ah, well."

Two doors are on the eastern wall, one to the north and one to the south.

Clynter "Glittergrin" |

Clynter leaps away from Stokes. "Keep you're dripping mitts off me! Are you trying to kill me?"
Clynter sighs and says "I would appreciate it if someone could fix me up though. I got a few bones that have been knocked out of place and some nasty cracks. It'll be just like treating someone with a dislocation or a broken legs."
Clynter is undead and that ability deals damage to him. Treat wounds and elixirs still work on him though.

![]() |

While Clynter is trying to avoid getting splashed by the magical healing water that could potentially harm him, Rakdon opens the next door to get a look at what awaits the party.
This wide yard is open to the sky. The ground, covered with straw and sand, is crisscrossed with human and animal tracks. The flames are licking the straw of the floor and causing a slow spread of the flames. This explains why the smoke was never a hazard in the previous rooms but just more of a nuisance.
Two sets of large loading doors lead east, with the southern set of doors standing slightly ajar. Other doors leading west and north are labeled “Storage” in Common and Mwangi, with the middle door being heavily damaged by the flames and starting to fall apart. Perhaps some flammable material was on the other side.
A trough of stagnant water stands between the two doors to the west, and a flimsy table and chairs occupy the yard’s southwest corner. A veritable mountain of boxes, casks, and crates are piled in the southeast corner of the yard beneath a makeshift awning.
From this position, you can see that the burned straw traces a magical rune outline in the ground. It looks like the straw and sand were meant to cover it up.

Kazavel "Ashes" Aldaris |

Stokes can patch people up with Ocean's Balm.
Ashes: 11
"Just what kind of spell is...
The elf is cut off by a sudden hiss of pain through clenched teeth as the skin Stokes touches bubbles and boils as if the water was acid. "Just want kind of spell is that? Never mind. Ahhh... I'll take care of myself. Come here, Clynter."
Casting 1st level spirit link on Clynter. That will transfer 2 HP every turn. Also casting a 1st level Harm on myself.
2 action Harm, 1st level: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
10 minutes later ...
With the fire spreading through the building, Ashes would likely encourage the party to move on before that much time passed. For now I'll adjust HP based on 2 rounds of Spirit Link ticking but if we do wait the 10 I'll knock off the rest for healing Clynter.
Ashes frowns when he notices the flaming room. "Well well well, if it isn't the consequences of my own actions." Rushing around the rune but not stepping on it, Ashes moves to see what's in the next room. He will give the rune an inquisitive glance, though.
Occultism: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

![]() |

Ashes The runework here appears to summon some sort of creature if triggered.
Ashes avoids the rune and heads up to the southern door.
This long room is a stall large enough for a fully laden wagon, with double doors leading west and east. The double door to the west, which bears a sign reading “Authorized Agents Only” in Common and Mwangi. Shelves contain tools for repairing wagons, such as crowbars, hammers,
and spare wheels. The door on the far end is scorched and heavily damaged by the fire, but appears to not have been enough for the entire room to catch ablaze.

Clynter "Glittergrin" |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Clynter points to the runes on the floor. "See! For anyone still thinking that we should NOT have set this builidng on fire, now you can see that if we didn't set this place on fire we might have missed that trap! I think going forward we need to make sure we set every building on fire before entering it. It's just good common sense!"

Kazavel "Ashes" Aldaris |

The elf's eyes narrow as he gazes at the flames. "Well, beats the Old Country!" he says before dashing between the lines of flame to check on the next door.
Clynter points to the runes on the floor. "See! For anyone still thinking that we should NOT have set this builidng on fire, now you can see that if we didn't set this place on fire we might have missed that trap! "Good idea. We can make every night shine as bright as day. Who needs Sarenrae when you can bring the warmth of the sun to anyone!"

Stokes Celerity |

"I think going forward we need to make sure we set every building on fire before entering it. It's just good common sense!"
"It also keeps the local fire departments in business."
Stokes will follow Ashes, but he does spend some time splashing water on nearby fires so they don't get surrounded.

![]() |

The party moves east to start checking the doors, which all of the cart doors are empty of anything worth of value or note. Quenching enough of the flame to open the middle section shows that some sort of oily substance is on the floor and is the reason the flames are going berserk in this one room in particular.
The doors to the north are locked, and would require a key to open. Attempting to force it open would require some kind of skeleton key or great feat of strength. Alternatively, the party can return to the meeting hall room and check the north door.
Larceny or go back?

Stokes Celerity |

Stokes sees how sturdy the north door is.
Athletics: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
It doesn't look very sturdy.

Clynter "Glittergrin" |

Clynter pulls out his thief tools. "Step aside, meatball. I got this." Clynter carefully examines the door for traps before going to work picking the lock.
Perception +11
Thievery: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
OR, if Stokes does burst the door open.
"Sure, just smash the door open. I guess no one needs little ole' Clynter and his lockpicks anymore," the skeleton whines.

Stokes Celerity |

"Sorry."
After smashing the door open, Stokes closes them again so that Clynter can pick the lock.

![]() |

Clynter manages to unlock the door as Stokes destroys it. At least no one can lock the party inside the room from the outside now.
Draperies of fine cloth, large teak chests bursting with clothing, and fine furniture are all stored in this vault. Empty manacles bolted to the north wall indicate that this chamber might have also had other, more brutal uses.
The furniture in here appears to be from the Chelaxian region. Further inspection shows it is engraved with the name "Alteirs", a household that all died from a plague roughly two months ago. Attempting to pilfer and sell this may be dangerous though, as it would easily draw attention from Chelaxian nobility, and provoke a devilish wrath.

"Ohh. Well, if we ever need to keep a Pet Chelaxian, we've got the perfect start to building a terrarium. All we need now is a food bowl and a little shrine to Asmodeus.
Ashes will go ahead and investigate the eastern hidden door.

![]() |

The door to the east is barred shut from this side, and is heavily locked.
You will need to attempt 5 DC30 Thievery checks to open the door.
The door on the western side is less heavily locked.
You will need to attempt a DC25 Thievery or Athletics check to get this door opened.

Clynter "Glittergrin" |

Clynter picks up the lock mechanism from the shattered door and stuffs it into his belt pouch.
Clynters eyes would have gone wide at the sight of all this treasure if there were still anything in his sockets. He grabs a few pieces of fine cloth and also stuffs them into his backpack."Oh my! I can't wait to wear all these fancy clothes!"
He glances at Ashes and quips, "If we're going to get a pet then it's your job to feed it. I'll never remember that it needs food and water every day."
Clynter bows deeply, while pointing both arms to the door. "No, no, no good sir. I insist that you go first. I just ask that you let me keep the lock after you've opened it, " he says in an aristocratic voice as he flips a silk scarf around his neck with a flourish.
If Clynter doesn't want to, then he'll wait a moment then go up to the door and try to unlock it.
Thievery: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29

The goat shoves Clynter forward, urging him to open the door. Its as if the goat is saying Cut the sass and get to work!
This office is elegantly appointed, with a large rosewood desk and a leather chair. A strange, greasy fog surrounds the desk in thin wisps. A wide bookshelf stands against the west wall.
Inside you can an ooze that has taken over the desk chair, waiting idly. It looks to be bubbling flames and has a thick smoke pouring from it. Standing even this close to it is nauseating! The wretched thing turns towards the door and faces Clynter, granting no chance for an ambush for either side!
Fuming Sludge
Uncommon, Neutral, Medium, Mindless, Ooze
The slurry from alchemical experiments is often as flammable as it is toxic. In especially volatile cases, a fuming sludge can form from ignited pools of unstable alchemical runoff. It resembles a charcoal-colored slurry studded with tiny embers, and it continually emits a thin haze of accelerant that amplifies the fires it starts.

Produce Flame: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30 fire damage: 3d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 4, 2) + 4 = 13
One may question the sense in using fire damage against an inherently flaming enemy. But consider: humans are made out of meat, and you can beat one to death with a tomahawk steak. My logic is flawless, and clearly this monster will yield to my superior intellect.

Clynter "Glittergrin" |

Ok, I think I might have forgotten to update my saves after the last level up or 2. My fort save should be +10 (+6 for level, +2 for trained, and +2 for CON.). And he does also get a +1 bonus vs poisons and disease, so I think he actually passed that save.

The ooze looks very beaten up, and it seems the party might be able to finish it off if they are fast enough with the blows. It doesn't give up though, as it lashes out again at everything it can!

Rakdon Tripus (Rerolls: 1)(-0,Fine)
Stokes Celerity (Rerolls: 1)(-21,Fine)
The sludge still stands, looking on its very last fumes, as Rakdon launches another powerful shot into the monstrosity and Stokes pummels it with a left-right combo!
The goat also throws in its weight to attack!
Headbutt Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Headbutt Damage: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (8, 5) + 3 = 16
Headbutt Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 5 ⇒ (1) + 9 - 5 = 5

Headbutt Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 10 ⇒ (18) + 9 - 10 = 17
Headbutt Damage: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 7) + 3 = 13
The goat bashes its head into the ooze, and it finally bursts like a popped bubble! With the ooze now finally vanquished, the party has a chance to search this room for any evidence of the plague or ill-doing.
This office is elegantly appointed, with a large rosewood desk and a leather chair. The desk’s chair bears markings from the ooze, and it’s plain that someone sitting in the chair behind the desk transformed into the ooze and didn’t go far. A wide bookshelf stands against the west wall.

Stokes watches the roasting goat, very coincidentally wondering what he's going to eat for dinner, and then, reluctantly, puts the fire out by washing it with water.
