What year do you want to play this game in?

Do you want to use pathfinder system? Maybe use some alt rules?

Armor as DR sounds good to me!

Do you want it to be based on Earth, Marvel Universe Earth, DC Universe Earth, Golarion, and there are so many more options!

I want to start us off as 0 level pathfinder class. Maybe start with a few commoner levels.

The focus is more on survival!

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

You opened with asking about rules systems.

Alternity?

d20 Modern?

Pulp Cthulhu?

d20 Modern just didn't work out last time. Also I don't know those rule systems but if someone can share a pdf that is in your drive, I will look them over.

I am open to new possibility but I would prefer to stick with Pathfinder 1st Edition rules. We can piecemeal it if needed.

Large Sublime Young Bronze Dragon Arcanist 6; Init +2; HP 256/256; AC 28, T 11, FF 28; DR 5/Magic; CMD 28 (32 vs. trip); Fort +21, Ref +13, Will +12 (+2 vs Fear); SR 17; Arcane Reservoir: 5/8

Have you ever heard of Deadlands: Hell on Earth? Its an incredible world. The original game used a card system, but they came out with dice versions. Mainly off of the Savage Worlds. But it has a couple of modules floating around and I think the world is amazing.

I like the concept but I don't think it is going to work with my plans, though when we get in full gear and actual levels I may use some of the ideas and mechanics. I will see if I can find it.

Wow! I was hoping people would post. I guess I will be back in an hour!

hey GM Wolf, love the idea of a post apocalyptic zombie game. Like I said in the other discussion I'm very familiar with PFS1 and reasonably familiar with D20modern. I don't mind the idea of starting at a '0' commoner level.

Are you thinking a straight up 'walking dead' or would you run a game with magic? Maybe worlds colliding and Magic starts working and necromancy wipes out 99.99% of the population. I don't mind more of a superhero theme, maybe more like 'alice' in resident evil. But not sure how that would work with PF1.

I like alt earth games if their done well.

Something that may be worth considering if it's more of a 'modern feel to combat' is a Defense Bonus

Yeah I will probably go with PFS1 general rules with D20modern when needed.

Walking Dead or with magic I am good either way.

Robert wrote:

Ohhh I like that, very similar to one of my previous games.

Yeah considering your armor options are likely to be limited I would be fine using a Defense Bonus.

---
With the lack of interest I am going to open recruitment tonight. I am sure the random adds will want to have specifics in place so: decision time.

PFS1 rule set.
Defense Bonus and Armor as DR.
We are starting with Walking Dead and magic will be uncovered.
We shall play in the year 2020, instead of Covid, the Zombie plague hit Earth.
0 level pathfinder class. Maybe start with a few commoner levels.

The focus is more on survival!

---
Check it over and get back to me ASAP, We can change anything before I open recruitment just posting what I am feeling! :)

have you read any of S. M. Stirlings Emberverse series The general gist is alt earth where technology stopped working and magic started again. I thought it was a fun read.

'magic will be uncovered' any thought on how that will happen? Are we going to add a few skills to represent modern equipment or technology? I'm fine with PFS1 'modern firearms' rules, but there are several things that the PFS skills wouldn't seem to cover.

No I haven't had the pleasure of reading the Emberverse series.

With the coming zombie horde I think it will be hard enough to survive, let alone without technology. So unless a massive 'Change' happens then you will be able to continue to use technology.

My idea is that magic has always been on earth but secret societies have been sealing it away and using it just for themselves. Something has broken many of the seals. Then the plague of zombies and necromatic energies rises! Watch out for Miasmic clouds!

Cool, happy with 'magic' always being there. I would much prefer modern tech work as well. I was just relating to the book as an example of magic coming on line.

So would this have been a world where someone like 'Constantine' (yeah the Keanu Reeves movie) could have happened. How about League of extraordinary gentlemen, Van Helsing or Penny Dreadful?

Not that our characters would start out that way, just asking.

Thinking about building my character based on one of my uncles. He was a full time firefighter, who had his own construction business on the side and hunted as a hobby. Would that be tough enough to be a warrior, or should I make him ex military as well?

Edit:I mean the character, not my uncle. If he were still alive he'd be way too old to join the military. Interestingly enough, since our zombie apocalypse is necromancers he could still show up as an NPC...

Edit # 2 I keep reading more of your recruitment and realize I may need to change some ideas....

Yeah sure, I know all of those pretty well, but not penny Dreaful, isn't that the clown from 'It'? We can also throw in 'I Frankenstein' and Underworld.

That should be plenty for the warrior class, though there are a bunch of perks being ex-military.

Now that could be interesting!

Hi Everyone,

I had a hard time meshing modern skills, and PF1 skills, they'll need to be relegated to something acceptable for the game.

I would love for the plague to have a complete mystery. The doctor being a Roman Catholic would see the undead plague as wrath from God. But he'd also believe that God would give us(humans) the possibility for redemption.

I chose a feat for Gun weapon Proficiency. And I used the extra provided by the GM for Skill Focus (Treat Injury/[Medical?]) from modern, I'd need 4 skill points to get the feat Surgery. which we might need to cut a limb off from a bite.

Yeah sure, I know all of those pretty well, but not penny Dreaful, isn't that the clown from 'It'? We can also throw in 'I Frankenstein' and Underworld.

Pity, not for any reason other than it's a great show. Penny Dreadful is an amalgamation of late 19th century horror tropes spun on their ear and put in London together on showtime.

My apologies, for some reason I thought you said a 20 point buy over here, but obviously not, probably a different recruitment I'm posting. I will consider adding the +2's or rerolling.

Before I rolled I thought a character like my uncle doing light construction work at the school when the event happened, but he wouldn't be a hunter or gun owner.

Now that I've rolled I'm thinking a janitor who is related to someone important at the school (Maybe a professor, or administrator or a rich benefactor). He'd be a graduate from the school who went into the military, becoming an explosives expert. He would be involved in a terrible accident experiencing a lot of head trauma. He would be given the job as janitor as a favor to his father.

So mentally and physically challenged, justifying some of the low numbers. His crunch would be one level military, one level expert (Janitor) his initial weapon would be a mop handle broken off at the end and sharpened. Gotta look at the crunch bits before I decide more than that...

Running through character creation now, I like the application of the starfinder skills, may I request one clarification? Make piloting a trained only skill and 'driving' a general skill using dex.

I may have missed it, but how are we doing Hit Points?

I plan on having Ujio Yutani's crunch finished this afternoon.

Penny Dreadful!!! I remember it now! Thanks for refreshing my memory! I think I have seen the first two seasons, maybe just the 1st.

Got everything except the campaign trait. None of them are currently fitting the vibe, I guess I could always goo for the least offensive option and also be a prepper?

You could also suggest a new campaign trait!

GM Wolf wrote:

Late night studier: Whether partying to hard and then trying to study, or very busy at sports needing to study late into the night. You've gotten into the habit of burning the candle at both ends staying up much later than needed and functioning the next day with little to no sleep. Benefit: + 1 fortitude.

Braces. Braces can help keep muscles and tendons stretched and flexible, slowing the progression of contractures. Braces can also aid mobility and function by providing support for weakened muscles. +1 Reflex

another?

Archery team: When you were younger you joined a club shooting the yumi bow, when you came to the school you joined the archery team. Benefit When you are using a yumi-bow, if only a single creature is providing soft cover to your target, your target does not receive the +4 bonus to AC. [ooc]It may seem overpowered, but it's the same as[/url] Deadeye Bowman

Does this seem fair? A lot of traits have a situational +2 bonus to things.

Infirm: While most of the time a hinderance, your illness causes zombies to take a crucial extra second to notice you are not one of them. +2 to stealth rolls vs the undead.

In other news, I could see Nikola feeling like something of a kindred spirit with Ujio. Not that she'd tell him that she has something going on with her, and the nature of their injuries is quite different, but to a young person with very little in the way of people to relate to, it's probably good enough.

Sweet, so Ujio is twenty five. When he was a student, he was a jock and a bit of a adrenaline junkie. Thus the reason for going into the bomb squad in the military. I think he went to college, (I need to look at Japanese education and military to make sure). The accident took place two years ago, it took a year to recover and he has been the janitor a year now.

The explosion hit his left side, he's got a vicious scar on the left side of his face, head and neck that he tries to hide with the beard. (thus the selected icon) The explosion damaged the communication part of his brain and the memory portion. So he doesn't remember complex things from before well, and has figured out how to learn things using word association. His communications skills are weak as well, not quite a stutterer but talks slow and little. The scar, is a physical reminder of how ugly he is now and of how his father has denigrated him. IF he'd gone into business as his father wanted he could have ran the company, but now, mentally and physically he's useless.

He has an older sister Yuzuha, who his father is grooming to take the company she is as cut throat and vicious as their father. If her younger brother had not had the accident father would have kept trying to give the business to his 'only son'

Ujio has two half sisters, his father having remarried after his first wife died. Both half sisters are students here at the school. The older, Hikari, formed in the mold of Yuzuha, she feels she has a chance of running the company. The younger sister Ayaka wants to be a artist and loves Ujio.

I'll get more later.

Ah yes, Nikola was also put here as a place to get rid of them by her family. The whole eldest child not being a son thing coupled with being ill.

I think my family might have been into some form of organized crime; she might have been able to take over the family business someday, but she's certainly not ruthless enough now. That being said, she's bright, good at reading people, and incredibly charismatic when she isn't being mopey/creepy. So many ways the same, and many ways different.

I couldn't help but use part of the name from the evil corporation in the 'Aliens' movies. I figure his grandfather could have founded the company and in some other alternate earth his sister would have taken it to greatness.

Still working on stuff, but I couldn't help post a little of the 'behind the scenes' my brain spends time on.

I was hoping that you could post a start date. I'm looking forward to starting.

I do have some environmental details that I'd like answered:

Details about the school, Size, Construction(I'm assuming modern), Gyms, Sports fields, Lunch room, swimming pool, Labs, Property, Time of year

How's it coming? Everyone please check in!

The original start date was Friday the 22nd I believe, but as soon as everyone is ready we can start.

The school is massive. It is a private high school and thus they have all the athletic fields, several gymnasiums, Then a six story building that houses the classes which fits about 2,500 students. 25 to a class so about 100 rooms just for classes. They would have all the basic labs for a high school and a few cutting edge labs as well. Using cutting edge technology they created the pool, which is on the 3rd story of the gynasmium. The floor of the pool is a shield reinforced glass bottom so it allows a lot of light in when the roof is open. 2nd floor of the main gym has weight lifting equipment and an inside track. The first floor are offices and the cafeteria.

As it is Japan land is expensive so they have done the best with what they have. Any extra greenery as in lawns would be ontop of the buildings including gardens.

The property is butted up against a national forest.

Some of your main options include: foraging, hiding, hunting, camp building, barricading, and defending. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Any chance the school would have a Kenjutsu or Kyūdō club?

I still need to finish skills and a small list of items he has with him and in his studio apartment (on campus) any reason he can't have access to anything that would be in a janitor's closet.

Can I get a wiki link or something for both of them, if my memory serves me: Yes!

Right, but in the recruitment he said:
"GM Wolf' wrote:

Profession is actually a number of separate skills. You could have several Profession skills, each with its own ranks. While skills like Culture, Life Science, Mysticism, and Physical Science represent highly specialized fields of study, a Profession skill represents an aptitude in a vocation requiring a broader range of less specific knowledge. When you put ranks in a Profession skill, you must choose the ability score keyed to that skill: Charisma, Intelligence, or Wisdom. Common Charisma-based Profession skills include actor, artist, comedian, con artist, courtesan, dancer, musician, orator, poet, politician, video personality, and writer. Common Intelligence-based Profession skills include accountant, archaeologist, architect, corporate professional, electrician, lab technician, lawyer, mathematician, philosopher, professor, psychologist, and vidgamer. Common Wisdom-based Profession skills include bounty hunter, cook, counselor, dockworker, farmer, gambler, general contractor, herbalist, maintenance worker, manager, mercenary, merchant, miner, and smuggler.

A Profession skill should not overlap with existing skills. For example, if you want to play a scientist, you should put ranks into Life Science or Physical Science rather than create a Profession (scientist) skill. The GM is the final arbiter of what is a good choice for a Profession skill and what ability score a given Profession skill is keyed to.

Different professions are considered different skills for the purpose of how many ranks you can have each level. For example, a 4th-level character could have 4 ranks in both Profession (dockworker) and Profession (vidgamer).

So I'm wondering what the combination of skills would look like for both his professions.

I'm assuming his experience would not be in all chemicals, only those relating to potential IED's.

A brain damaged man who makes explosives from scratch. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Thanks! Yes there would be gyms set aside for each of them. Maybe in the same building. One of the smaller side gyms.

Maybe, you could rig likely one tank of a bomb with the chemicals in a closet. Though the DC will probably be between 15 and 20, depending.
