The small seaside town of Otari is known for its fresh fish and skilled sailors, but above all, it’s a big logging town, providing valuable wood to the nearby metropolis of Absalom. But for you, Otari is home. You grew up playing on the docks, getting lost in the nearby woods, and hearing the fantastical stories of travelers from faraway lands, tales of terrifying dragons and virtuous knights. Such adventure always seemed so distant—until today!

Resting lazily in one of the nearyby bushes is a very tiny melexie sprite that looks a lot like a normal mix between a wasp and a bee. It snores quietly, drunk on its latest batch of honey and taking in the sights. It's recent flight seems to have brought it to Otari of all places.

Thorn takes a break from his cooking work in the Crook's Nook. The dwarf opens up a letter from his uncle.

"I came to find a manor ... psychopomps brought me here ... lost forgoten evil..." he reads it in silence. His well kept beared moves as he would be reading out loud but no sound is comming out. He looks at the people from Otari walking down the alley, after so many years spent here in the town he knows most of them. By now he worked as a cook in couple of places, but people around those parts never got fond of his cooking. He used spices that were common in Dongun Hold, whenever he could get his hands on them.

He looked back at the kitchen, his arquebus currently holding the door to not lock, he can't remember when was the last time that he shoot it.

A goblin dressed in robes and bearing a symbol of Sarenrae (both of which are strangely scorched) wanders through the streets of Otari.

Anyone who stands still for two long will hear the good news of Sarenrae's forgiveness.

"She even forgives those who burn down buildings! Like me! Where are you going? Is this your shop? It's nice. Lots of flammable things in here. You should be careful about fires. Would you like to hear more about Sarenrae?"

Otari is a tough place to be, at least as a full blooded Orc. Sure, Absalom has every race imaginable (and then some), but in these small towns an Orc still sticks out. Especially one with prominent tusks and standing a little over 7 ft tall.

I thought they said that we would be seeing more Orcs around these parts, what with the fall of the Wizarding sect further down the Kortos coast, Kzem haphazardly thinks to himself.

He picks a bit of imagined food out from between his tusks, stands up, and slings his shield over his back. Despite his height, armor, and shield- it doesn't appear he carries a weapon any more significant than a simple dagger- tucked into his belt and clearly more utility than defense. He wears a dented, but functional, breast plate- a traveler's worn out cloak, and about his neck (on a long chain) the sunlight briefly catches on a 4 inch round mirror- before Kzem instinctively tucks it back into his collar.

Best to keep moving, I suppose, he says in a low and rumbly voice- to no one in particular.

A young half elf woman wearing leather armor with a bow strapped to her back and a rapier at her side slowly walks around the town of Otari, her eyes wide with wonder. Hopping along beside her is a snow white owl. With a wide smile on her face the girl turns and speaks to the owl. "Wow. Look at this place Silence. I've never seen so many big people in all my life. There must be over a hundred at least."

As everyone mills about town, they hear rumors that there’s a problem down at the Otari Fishery. Some are saying that some sort of beast is lurking in the basement, feeding on the stores of salted fish. Folks are worried that whatever is eating the fish might get hungry enough to eat the fishers next!

Never ones to shy away from trouble, the group loiters around the fishery - Buzz to see whether the fishery has any honey (it doesn't), Thorn to see if there was a discount on fish (there isn't), Grimmylow to see if barrels of preserved fish are flammable (they aren't), Kzem to see if there's anything to kill (not yet), and Meadow to see if the locale would make for an interesting stop on her newly formed Meadow Tours company (jury is ... deliberating).

Tamily Tanderveil, the owner of the Fishery, notices the activity. "You all look like a ... well-armed lot. With the town guard busy protecting the loggers, I need a few brave souls to venture down into the basement of my warehouse and put an end to the beast that’s feasting on my fish! What say you?"

At the comment of "well armed", Kzem looks down at his empty hands and his stowed shield.

I don't have 'arms' persay, but I have a shield and no fear. I imagine that is enough?

"If there's some sort of dangerous wild animal then Silence and I are up to the task. We're excellent hunters. I just have one question. What's a basement? Or a fishery for that matter."

Thorn looks at the Tamily still sour that there is no discount on fishes. His cooking assignment was put on hold as he spiced to heavily for the past few days. Apparently bowls in Otari are more delicate than from where he was.

From under his bushy eyebrows he looks at Kzem, Buzz, Meadow and young owl named Silence only then noticing the goblin. He pulls out his rifle from his back and nods his head.

When Buzz speaks about honey he raises his eyebrow wondering how did he spoke so loudly.

"Yes, yes. Well armed, well armed," Grimmylow says, patting the scimitar strapped to his back. The way he's wearing it tells anyone who really knows weapons that he's wearing it more as a symbol than a weapon.

"But really, it will be our faith in Sarenrae which brings us through the coming ordeal."

He turns to answer Meadow. "A basement is like a cave under a building. But sometimes they add the cave after the building is built. Or make the cave then build the building on top of it."

He reaches out his hands to his allies. "Shall we pray before we head down?"

The stairs leading into the basement of the Otari Fishery creak with age as the group makes its way downstairs to find the beast that has been eating all the fish. In the center of the room, between stone pillars holding up the fishery overhead, are barrels filled with salted fish. Two of these barrels have been smashed open, spilling their contents on the floor. In the east wall is a large hole, opening into darkness.

Tamily Tanderveil was thrilled when you agreed to help her with this simple task, but as you make your way downstairs, you can’t help but wonder if this might be a lot more adventure than you bargained for.

Kzem heads down, his small dagger still stowed. Instead, he removes the chain and mirror around his neck and wraps it around his free hand. Hefting his shield he steps onto the stairs and into the basement.

Meadow finally notices the sprite. "Buzz? Is that you? What are you doing here?"

"Meadow!" He buzzes his wings and the sprite swoops in a large circle. "I don't know. I just flew. Been eating honey here for weeks now."

Before they descend Thorn would take out his rifle and clean it up. It was solidly dusted and in the barrel he found a slice of onion. Then he would hang it on his back. As he walks down his eyes adapt to the underground light. His eyes sweeps the basement when Buzz and Meadow begin to chat...

Grimmylow leans (dangerously) far over the railing to look at the spilled food.

"Looks like it just got some dirt on it. So, it's still good. Just crunchy," he says.

He draws his scimitar with one hand and holds his holy symbol tight with the other.

"I hope it's not just mischievous youth who need guidance," he says.

This part of the basement is still well lit, because it's officially a part of the basement. The cave part will be dark, but we'll burn that bridge when we cross it.

A strange chittering comes from the hole in the wall. Suddenly, a massive rat the size of a dog emerges from the darkness—and it isn’t alone! The giant rats rush toward you, their huge teeth snapping.

Meadow's new shot isn't much better, and her arrow bounces harmlessly off the floor.

The rats rush forward, climbing up the railings of the stairway as necessary to get at the intruders. Attacking through the railings is possible, but I'll apply a -1 cover penalty.

"Oh look! They gathered together to be cooked!" Grimmylow exclaims with unrestrained glee.

He puts his thumbs together and spreads his fingers apart and, before anyone can protest, sends out a fan of fire that reaches a full 15'. It cascades over all the rats except for the yellowish tinged one and singes everyone in the room, coming dangerously close to all of his allies.

Quite pleased with himself, he also asks Sarenrae to protect him and a pair of transparent bird wings wrap around him.

Buzz shoots stingers at the nearby rat, but they all bounce off the rats' furs. Meadow also tries to shoot them, but finds it difficult to get a good shot. Silence tries a more direct approach, but it can't damage the rats, either.

Kzem Recalls successfully, noting they have no resistances or weaknesses. He bashes his shield against Cyan, and hitting in just the right place, smashes the rat with one blow.

Retconning Thorn's damage. Thorn fires at the rat, but misses. He flings it back with his gun as he reloads. Your attack should have included MAP, as it was your second "attack", but (20)+0 still crits.

Grimmylow unleashes a big wave of fire. Technically Thorn pushed Green out of range, but it doesn't seem fair to penalize you for him critting, so I'll say it's in the cone as it's being shoved.

Buzz quickly flies upstairs, snatching a set of what appears to be healer's tools and drops 5 gold pieces down on the counter for whoever he is stealing from.

Back downstairs he begins to stick up Meadow's injuries as best as he can.

Meadow nods and rubs her bandaged leg. "He was okay. Lily with the brown hair was the best though. She always told me stories or sang to me when she fixed me up."

Thorn reloads his rifle and hangs it on his back, he lifts one of the rats paw and look at the creature. He opens its mouth to see if it is changed in any way. Seeing clearly that those are regular rats he looks around the room

Squeezing through the hole, the group finds themselves in a cavern that seems to stretch endlessly beneath the streets of Otari. Who knows what menace could be lurking down here? Up ahead, the passageway ends in a cliff that plunges sharply into the darkness. The cliff is only 10 feet tall, but the surface is slick with moisture.

DC 15 Athletics check to climb down. Or, you can jump.

From this point on, the cave is dark, so I need to know how your characters plan to see.

Kzem starts climbing down and almost slips. He doesn't make it down at first, but he doesn't fall either. First attempt is a fail, but not a crit fail, so no movement but no damage.

Buzz and Meadow successfully climb down on their first attempt.
