It's been quiet for a few days, I'm kind of waiting on a response from the NPCs before I post again. Everything okay out there?

![]() |

Hope you've enjoyed your time out of town, and I wanted to mention how much I've appreciated the tension building in this RP :) It's clear that most of these people barely tolerate each other and are only staying peaceful because it's more convenient. It was altogether too much for poor Talindra, but I'm quite enjoying it.

DM DoctorEvil |

Thanks, happy to be back. Have a week of vacation next week so more long pauses probably.
Glad you enjoyed the luncheon scene -- all improvised from characters provided by Perivolt's player. Seems like we could get lost in weeks worth of side tracks in this campaign, which is part of the beauty of it.
Perivolt, I didn't mean to portray your whole family as a@~!@+@s, but they perhaps all have redeeming qualities as well. There is a certain amount of actual game information from NPC interactions, though subtle, it might be important. So keep watch, and perhaps, good notes....

Billi Hardstone |

There are actually riding drakes on the new archives of nethys animal companion list. Don't know if that would work. The old plan was a cat.

Perivolt Ornelos |

@Dm DoctorEvil: Oh, your portrayal was just fine. Those people are indeed a&!*#@@s though as I suggested, I'm sure Alana has her own agenda for being there, so her attitude may not be precisely in line with the typical Ornelos especially being a foreigner. I was going to have Redwella be a tad more aloof with her emotions tightly hidden, but the more rebellious young woman who gets away with it because she's such a prodigy works, too.

Perivolt Ornelos |

Regarding shopping: I'm always happy to roleplay it out. I feel like our illustrious DM kind of has something fun in mind for that(?), and I would hate to take that away.
Regarding the holy symbol: Personally, I think Talindra should keep the holy symbol. For me roleplay is going to trump powergaming and arbitrary mechanics like wealth-per-level, etc. every day of the week. I honestly feel like finding the beautiful holy symbol among the possessions of a serial child abuser and killer should also help alleviate any doubts Talindra may have or come to have when she reflects on her tenets as a Champion of Shelyn and any crisis of faith and integrity which may arise from what happened to Lamm and his crew at the hands of Zellara's posse ahem, well-intentioned group of like-minded individuals. And if Talindra chooses not to keep it, Perivolt would rather it be donated to the Sanctuary of Shelyn directly given its beauty and obvious craftsmanship and the significance of both to the religion.
When it comes to money, Perivolt is a bit oblivious. He only has to pinch pennies for his activities as an adventurer, but returning to his studies at the Acadamae guarantees his lifestyle under the Ornelos family name. So, yeah, my character came with a huge lifestyle safety net, but likely that won't be more than background noise as I'm not too sure how many more times he'll visit "home" during this adventure.
That's assuming Sable doesn't manage to burn all of Perivolt's bridges, of course. :P

I'd love to roleplay the shopping as well, but I understand that other folks may want to just get on with it. My position is that the PbP format is especially well-suited to roleplaying, so it's logical to embrace it.
On the topic of the holy symbol, I want to be clear that Talindra really does think she should sell it--I'm trying to show that she's not attached to material goods, despite living a rather privileged life. This is roleplaying, not powergaming :). She's pretty blind to that, actually. Her thought process is that she's not attached to material goods like this, and she lives a holy life, so clearly she's not got anything to worry about regarding privilege. Hogwash, clearly, and that's a point of development I would like to explore for her as the campaign progresses--much the same as I'd like to explore her taking bard dedication, should it come up.
All that said, you've made some great points here, and others have made great points in character, so I'm open to being convinced otherwise.

Perivolt Ornelos |

I'm definitely not trying to tell you how to roleplay. My position is mostly from the perspective on the tenets of the Shelynite faith and their promotion of love and beauty of all and the appreciation of the arts. An artisanal-level holy symbol of Shelyn seems almost on-the-nose for the faith, and no one would fault you at all for wanting to keep it or deliver it to your local temple aside from its monetary value. It's also possible a parishioner of the Sanctuary would offer more than its worth given its value to Shelyn's faithful as a collector's piece may be higher than the sum of its component parts which may be all a shop owner would see.

Right, right, I didn't think you were telling me how to roleplay! Don't worry about that :) I was more worried about clarifying that my rationale wasn't minmaxing the money, that's all.
You've got some great points, of course, and I do think you've convinced me!
I'll try not to burn too many bridges. But, no promises!
Not gonna lie, the only reason he didn't take a literal gauntlet to the face is because he's your relative.

DM DoctorEvil |

I will move the abalone holy symbol to Talindra's pile for now; you can always be conflicted about in character, and sell it later, or use it for more personal worship. You do you.
Selling the rest of the items (except the potions and magical dagger) nets the party 99.3gp. Split 5 ways, that's 19.86 per player. If someone wants to loan money to Billi for plate, that is perhaps up to you, but I will allocate evenly on the Cash Tracker for now.
do you show the key dagger or the queen's brooch in the shop where you sell these things? Do you want to buy any non-magical gear? If you want to buy magic items or move the runes around, I do want to roleplay that.

![]() |

I'd like to note that I'd join team plate if we had the money, but I'd suffer the -10 speed penalty. I'm learning that positioning is extremely important for me, so I'm loathe to give up that speed. Movement is a lot easier in PF2, to be sure, but that's a full 30 ft of movement per turn if I move three times--equivalent to a whole stride action! The durability would be quite nice, but right now I care more about keeping everyone else safe and I need to be in the right position for that.

Sable Rose |

It's only a 1 AC difference between a breastplate (4 AC, 1 dex) and full plate (6 AC, no dex), so it's not a huge difference. Armor proficiency matters more than armor type in PF2E since light/medium cap at +5, and heavy at +6. Those extra +2s for proficiency matter much more, and Champion is the best class for those.
I don't think the lack of plate will hurt Talindra.

Sable Rose |

Perivolt is not attempting to be misogynistic or chauvinist. Just rich-family-doesn't-understand-poverty-istic. The fact that Sable happens to be female has nothing to do with his offer to Billi.
I should have said this yesterday, but I did not take the comment in any negative way.

Perivolt Ornelos |

We just need to find a collector who will want a piece of serial killer history. I'm sure that among the disgusting debauchery of the noble houses of Korvosa there will be at least one or two sickos willing to overpay for the honor of getting a Keylock Killer dagger. :P
Then we just buy our rune with the excessive sale.

![]() |

No worries, life happens! Am eager to get back into it. I have updated my stats to reflect the +1 to hit (not damage) for the potency rune.

![]() |

Still here! I can think of a few things at least that we should look into:
- meeting up with Thousand Bones
- trying to find any leads regarding the brooch / ledger
- try to get some information from the guard / some reliable source about what's going on beyond what we've gotten so far, which is largely wagging tongues and hearsay
- at a very distant third, Talindra wants to go to her temple and see what's going on there--and show them the beautiful holy symbol!--but she is not going to impose her own desires on the group. I imagine Lenrelle will want to do the same for hers, of course
I'm happy to (double) post and make a decision, but I would like some input from others first.

Sable Rose |

I'm also here. I'm just stuck on what we should do next.
I'm not seeing the hook for anyone other than Perivolt to want to see Thousand Bones. That doesn't mean Sable wouldn't go with the group, I'm just not seeing why anyone except Perivolt would have a reason to do that. Maybe I missed something at his house or forgot something.
I really don't think we should flash the brooch, or the dagger, unless we know someone is really trustworthy. They are both really dangerous objects to just casually show off.
I think checking in with the temples makes a lot of sense. Both as it is something that I'd guess both players would want to do, and we might get a differing perspective on what is going on, although I don't think we'll get anything except hearsay for a while.
The sewer rumor was a potential hook as well but without any more details about where and/or what to look for there, I don't see a reason to go there at the moment, though I suspect there may be things down there.
Also, on a side note, Talindra if you (or anyone) want to do something strongly ICly, bring it up. There's nothing wrong with pushing an IC desire to do something :)

Billi Hardstone |

And Billi and Sable were going to visit the thieves guild and possibly get Billi an animal companion as Sable trained in their craft. I will just create an animal companion and post with her.
I was hoping they would be a great source of information on what is going on in town, but the sewers seemed the next step.
Billi would also see if someone in the thieves guild was sketchy enough to move the dagger rune.

![]() |

Sounds like we're doing the thieves guild, then? As I said, I'm fine with whatever :) Are you two going off on your own? If so, Talindra will object, strenuously--both because she thinks it's unwise and because OOC I think it'll be fascinating to play a character so privileged against some potentially lesser-privileged NPCs. Should be an eye-opening experience for her, especially in contrast to what she saw earlier at the Ornelos estate.
