Lenrelle, I think your ranged spell attack is +8 (+4 for stat, +2 for proficiency, and +2 for level bonus).
Talindra, unlike in PF1, Readying an action does not change the initiative order, as it is thought of as a Reaction. So you stay up next, but if you do Ready again, you couldn't do Glimpse in the same round (also a Reaction).
My attack and damage roll vs Perivolt were just contingent anyway, so they never happen, and Glimpse is not needed in Round 1. Think Billi is just out of range to use on the critical hit he took in Round 2.

Hm. If I do use my Glimpse of Redemption before my readied action, that means I don't get the readied action, correct?
Talindra Ravenheart

I'd like to decline to attack so that I can use my Glimpse of Redemption on the imp. Is that something the rules allow?

Not sure if you are aware, but I started a second CotCT game with those not taken for this game. That group is just in the den with Lamm and his alligator etc, and they are about to TPK. Three of the six are unconscious, just the healer (without any Heal left) and a wizard and warlock remain, against all the bad guys.
Never had a PBP group TPK before, but this is headed that way. Not sure what i could've done differently, the die roller has been brutal against them.

The beginner box and trouble in Otari have provisions for NPCs to help parties out when that happens. I guess mysterious, spontaneous healing from Zellara draining pc harrow points is a way to put a GM hand on the scales.
The door to the hideout was a BIG obstacle even when broken. I can see characters getting overwhelmed in that room.
In PFS 2e my paladin went to dying 3 and the GM said it was the first character in his 2e PFS play to go to any dying. But PFS play is quite easier.
First level still is the most dangerous even with racial hps.
Sable Rose
I might be wrong, but I still think there had to be another way into that room. I just don't see Lamm jumping onto a crawlway and crawling through a door to get to his bedroom. It just doesn't seem like something a crime lord would do.
As far as TPKs, I hope we don't have one, but as a player, I tend to be a let the dice fall as they may type.

The text pretty clearly says he really doesn't get out much any more, and there was an unspotted trap door in the ceiling (floor of the office above) where food, treasure etc is passed down. They usually enter the long way around though the moored ship, but you took a shortcut (avoiding a monster encounter along the way).

The drakes healed just the wounds sustained in this combat, not anything else, correct? Some of us were down a bit going into the fight.
Perivolt Ornelos
Just to be clear, I'm happy to RP scenes at the Ornelos estates. Are you expecting me to kind of take over the scenes or will you be controlling the NPCs?
Obviously being surrounded by Perivolt's abundant kin could lead to GM overload, unless you want to focus the scenes on just a couple of them.

I mean, I guess, that you can go see any of the family you wish, and therefore introduce them to the campaign. I will still run the NPCs from a behavior and attitude (and helpfulness?) perspective.
Not sure we want to spend days here sorting out Ornelas family politics, but there might be some reason to get the group introduced to someone influential or sinister or somewhere in between.

No worries on my end. This is your scene, I’m happy giving you some time and space to do it well :)

As you can see, I’m beginning to look more directly at the concept of wealth inequality. Something I’d like to explore, and would like help from others with, is how Talindra has some of her own privilege in this respect. She’s a champion of Shelyn, girded in expensive armor and weapons, able to pursue a life of principle and philosophy with the support of a large, wealthy organization, instead of having to spend her time growing food. She’s comfortable but doesn’t quite realize it.

@DM DoctorEvil: While I was planning to have a bit more RP before pursuing this, Billi kind of pre-empted me. Are you thinking of running some kind of Ornelos Tower Defense encounter for the team, or should we be expecting to exit the Ornelos facilities post meal?
Current thoughts on roleplaying sequence:
What do we think of all this? If it's too much, can certainly handwave all that and move on, no hard feelings. :)
Perivolt Ornelos
Incidentally, I don't know if we're replacing our lost teammate, but this could easily be a perfect time to add anyone you have waiting in the wings, DM DoctorEvil.
I don't know what happened to your other CoCT game, but if it TPK'd or otherwise ended and everyone agrees, any stragglers could join us here?

This sounds quite lovely! It's certainly a digression from the main plot, but personally I (and Talindra, of course!) would enjoy some peace. What you've proposed would serve as a nice contrast in tension against all the fighting we've done, over several months of IRL time! Uncomfortable as she is with the display of wealth, Talindra does have some trained social skills, which could make for some interesting conversations. Once she has a bath, of course.
That said, if other folks want to move on, I'm happy with that, too.
Sable Rose
OOCly, I'm fine with whatever we do. ICly, Sable's a bit nervous to both be surrounded by so much wealth and being at a potential point of attack after darkness falls.
I do think Billi wanted to do some shopping, and Sable will need to get some thieves' tools before she can actually use her new rogue skills, but that's fairly minor.

Current thoughts on roleplaying sequence:
Everyone cleans up. Private RP available for ladies and gentlemen if desired. Meal time! Everyone enjoys a sumptuous feast many have likely not experienced. This can be expanded as desired with several course and character discussion. May be a good time for Zellara to pop out and the team to decide what Korvosa needs from them now that the children are saved and Lamm's legacy is hopefully nothing more than trauma to be handled as normal (throwing yourself into your work, therapy, a constructive hobby, addiction to alcohol...you know, the typical coping mechanisms). Redwella makes her grand appearance! Whatever GM plans exist A return to the riotous streets to pursue unfinished campaign business such as the brooch and the ledger, I think? Was there anything else? What do we think of all this? If it's too much, can certainly handwave all that and move on, no hard feelings. :)
Not to give too much away in advance, but I was thinking of something very much like the bullet points laid out. I had not planned on a long stay at the manor, or a defensive battle, but this is sandbox-y enough that it can take you where you want to go.
If the group wants to move on to other tasks, they can infer that in character or say it here OOC. As far as what you do after the manor, it's still all up to. Some shopping, the brooch are certainly some leads to follow up on. More may present themselves.
DM DoctorEvil
Truth be told, I was not planning on adding another PC to the group unless you have someone you know/trust and would like them to join up. The AP is built for 4, and have been "building up" encounters to account for it. I think the internal dynamics of the group are outstanding, and the skill set you can replicate or get via other means (NPC, retainer etc). That said, if you know someone who would be a good fit, we can discuss.
The other group did TPK, or technically threw in the towel before it was over, but I agree to run another game for them (War for the Crown, at their request) so that is still in the character-building stage.
Talindra Ravenheart
|
Oooh, I have had my eye on War for the Crown for a while now! Very similar themes to CoCT from what I can tell. I'm not sure if I want to run it or try to find a group for it... decisions! I wish them the best of luck with it :)

With Sable dipping rogue we have all the areas covered. Two fighter types with an animal companion should give us a solid front line.

re: Billi's comment on using the card to ID magic items. In 2E, there is no identify spell, and while the card is cool and could be used to quickly ID something in a fight for instance, magic item ID is simply 10 minutes of studying the item and making any magical tradition roll, typically with an average DC for the level of the item (and at +2 for uncommon, +5 for rare. +10 for unique), but the GM determines the DC.
Given that we have four people who can use spells, we should be able to ID anything magic that we have not with ease. You also don't even need to be able to spell cast, just be trained or better in Arcana, Nature, Occult, or Religion.
Billi Hardstone
So magic missile wand to Perivolt
I would think we transfer rune from dagger to a primary weapon, probably Talindra's preferred weapon
Billi was going to prioritize purchasing plate, +2 AC better than a potency rune
hand crossbow +1 could be useful for Sable or transferred too
Sable Rose
I agree the wand should go to Perivolt if he wants it. Sable can use it, but I think it's better for Perivolt to have.
Do we have two +1 weapons? Is the dagger magical? If so, then, yes, if we can afford it, and if we can find a merchant who is open given the IC events in the city, the rune should be moved to Talindra's glaive and Billi's axe, as it makes sense to give our fighter types the first weapon potency runes.
Sable would take the hand crossbow after the transfer as a backup ranged weapon.
Sable Rose
While that is true, my thinking was more along the lines of wands, scrolls, and staves are more of an asset to full casters to extend spell slots and give more options. While a bard certainly can be a full caster, Sable's not intended to be one, and giving the wizard an extra combat option could be handy.
That said, if Perivolt doesn't want the wand, Sable will take it. I just think it's more useful in his hands.
DM DoctorEvil
I will move the wand to Perivolt's possession. He can return it to the party if he doesn't want it.
You'll still need to find a vendor to do the moving. You might recall there is a magic shop not terribly far from the Ornelas Estate called The Gilded Orrery.
I will also move the hand crossbow to Sable's list. Along with the bolts.

My own tardiness was just down to needing a day off to mentally decompress.
More positively, I love the word "ablutions", such a good choice!
Perivolt Ornelos
Well, I certainly wasn’t expecting this situation. And Sable already churning the waters, too, my goodness.
I’m honestly not even sure how to have Perivolt behave. I had never anticipated his parents would make in-person appearances during the campaign or that they might even have paid much attention to his search aside from how much it was distracting from his studies at the Acadamae. Definitely going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

Definitely not trying to tell you how to play your character, but when I have trouble in scenes like this, I consider where my character’s loyalties are, what their goals are in the moment. I hope that proves helpful :)
