So all the APs for 2e are 'supposed' to follow the recommended balance for items and wealth. The best value for PCs seems to be in the fundamental rune upgrades for weapons and then armor (armor significantly more)
The core book says we all should have a permanent item of first level and 20 gp (which is amazingly small given we started with 15gp).
I have noticed that higher level items get exponentially more expensive, but the bang for the buck for PCs is rushing to weapon potency then striking runes and then armor runes.
With an armor potency rune being 160gp and +1 weapon potency at 35gp, seems we would want some +1 weapons. It is 3.5gp to move a weapon rune from a +1 weapon to another, so that is another good use of early treasure that is awkward (such as a +1 weapon of a racial weapon no one can use).
And the armor resiliency rune at 340gp is expensive for a fundamental rune.

As far as leveling up goes, I feel like I'm definitly going to need a proofreader. Just reading Billi's post above tells me PF2e is much more different in terms of higher level equipment expectations. I really need to buckle down and actually read the Core book instead of just skimming, lol.

I will have my level up completed tonight (reminder, my timezone is US Eastern). There's a lot of modifiers to change and that's to say nothing of which options to choose for my class and skill feats. I'm leaning toward taking Deity's Domain and choosing Protection to get Protector's Sacrifice. It's not fantastic on its own, but it leads to Advanced Deity's Domain which grants Protector's Sphere which is very nice. Universal damage reduction for everyone in melee? Yes, please!
DM DoctorEvil
Thanks. I have some general ideas of the WBL and item use. Setting up for 6 party needs, and making sure the items translate well is a bit of a handful.
I won't confirm that there are weapon potency items in the trove, but I won't deny it either...
Lenrelle, thanks for the update. Assurance in Medicine is a good feat choice for the healer of the group.
Peri, its a learning experience for all of us. Tell us what you choose for leveling up, and we shall see how it fits. The buying things can also come with time.
I need to update the loot tracker with these new things, but will get that done today.

Billi was going to explore adding the barbarian archetype as he was going to build more ties with the Shoantis and get the rage ability.
But, he is going to expand his love of nature to get the Beastmaster archetype and a loyal animal companion to help adjust to life without Shiver.
Dog, wolf and horse seem too traditional. How about one of beetle, snake, scorpion, bird, bear or badger? (many on the list seem too exotic) Is it possible to save Lamm's crocodile and make it friendly or find a partially grown crocodile offspring around here?? Seems too good an opportunity to pass up there.
And, if Billi's animal companion is lacking the mount trait, he will probably take hefty hauler skill feat to carry all his stuff.
Sable Rose
I actually ran an old 3.5 adventure from 2001 for my group earlier this week. The way I converted money was to cut coin amounts by 90 percent, so 100 would become 10, cut gem values in half, and leave trade goods the same. It seemed to work out pretty well, but it was only one adventure, so I can't say I've tested exchange rates extensively.
I like all of your non-traditional animal companion choices, Billi.
As for Sable, given that bard level 2's feats are the only level which I feel meh on for Sable, not in general, and since it looks like we may have lost our rogue, I think I'm going to take the Rogue archetype dedication so that we have Thievery covered going forward.
DM DoctorEvil
I think if you go with an animal companion, you have to recognize this is mainly an urban adventure, and there will problems that follow from having certain pet in that setting. Wild animals are not going to go over particularly well, especially large carnivorous ones.
If you want to get a monkey or a dog, you'd probably be fine. Going to be hard to explain how you come up with a crocodile (Lamm had an alligator but it stayed in his hideout) in the middle of Korvosa anyway.
Good ideas on the coin/jewelry values, it's kind of what I've done but maybe not enough.
Taking dedication in rogue is a good fit for Sable's backstory anyway, I think.

On the note of what we're interested in pursuing in future, I imagine it's highly unlikely, but would it be possible for me to become a Knight of Lastwall? There are some extremely attractive champion feats which require membership in that order.
Posting in the gameplay thread presently and then levelling up.
Sable Rose
Ok, I have Sable's leveling done. Her numbers are all updated in the profile.
The feat and spell changes are there, and I'll put them here, too.
For the class feat, I did take Rogue Dedication. While I don't think I'll ever go down it, it gives a lot. It gives one skill feat, the surprise attack feature, which I don't think I'll use, training in Stealth or Thievery, and training in one skill of choice, so I took both Stealth and Thievery.
Between the dedication and normal level 2 skill feat, I had two of them, and I took Cat Fall and Steady Balance.
Sable's new spell is Phantom Pain, which does non-lethal damage, and I thought that might be something that could come in handy.
Billi Hardstone
Billi is protective of Sable and follows her to make sure the unsavories she is training with know to "watch out" like a good big brother would. While there, he finds a sneaky, all black cat they used for training called shadow. Unable to help Billi with his encumbrance problems (ever tried to put anything on a cat), Billi takes Hefty Hauler to help carry his repair kit and healing kit he plans on buying.

I believe I've completed my level up, and! I noticed an error in my AC calculation! From what I can tell, it should have been 17 last level: base of 10, the breastplate is +4, +0 dex, +3 proficiency. This brings it to 18 for level 2. I've incorporated those changes.
As mentioned, I took Deity's Domain (Protection), granting me Protector's Sacrifice. Something to note about this, that I missed in my first reading, is that its range is 30 feet, up from the 15 for Glimpse of Redemption. I'm still limited to one reaction per turn, but Protector's Sacrifice is also more general: it triggers when an ally takes damage, regardless of source.
For my skill feat, I took Quick Repair. This will be helpful if, for example, one of us has a shield that breaks in combat. I'll need to purchase a repair kit, but assuming Korvosa still, you know, exists, that should be fairly easy.
... also, I just want to say, getting 13 HP on a level up is very nice.
Billi Hardstone
Billi will look to sell his chain to get plate armor and will encourage Talindra to do the same with the breastplate.
30gp - 3gp = 27gp cost

Would love to, but I'd incur a check penalty; I'm not quite as strong as you :) Soon! It's more important to me that I get a shield. Champions are much, much better with a shield.

I've leveled Lenrelle up. She took Communal Healing as her class feat ,and Assurance (medicine) as her Skill feat.
I have to say that Communal Healing does not do what I expected it did from the name. I think I have Lenrelle leveled up.
I do think your Reflex save is now +5 , but might be wrong in some way.

Perivolt, on leveling up, you will be able to add a Skill Feat, a Class Feat, add 2 more spells to your spellbook, and have one more 1st level spell slot (total of 3) available.
In addition, all your trained skills go up by 1, your saves increase, as does your AC and attack bonuses.
Your HP increase by the HD for your class + any CON bonus (it's 6hp for wizard).
Not sure, but maybe I've forgotten something
Billi Hardstone
The players guide listed firepelt cougars as being native, but a nice black cat with a stealth skill seems to be the best for an urban low key pet. light barding is 10gp and heavy barding 25gp, but I have cats and try putting clothes on them is really hard. We will see how the finances work out, but trading 5 feet of movement and 10gp for an AC for Shadow may work out or we can wait to get the heavy barding later with 3 AC bonus.

Ack! Nice save (No pun intended) thank you!
And yeah, when I Saw 'Communal healing' the first time I thought 'okay, quicker group heals maybe?' but it's still gonna be handy I hope.

I’m not sure if you’re serious, but if so, I’m worried that it’d cause a lot of RP tension that may end up being unfun for myself and maybe Lenrelle.

From what I'm reading on the SRD, it's basically evil incarnate, focused on suffering / sin / evil. How would pious, good people tolerate that? Beyond that, you'd be using polearms. Shelyn's holy weapon. Surely you can see the problem here?
Perivolt Ornelos
Um, you'll need to provide a link to your source as Rune magic is just a method not an alignment. It has zero requirements for being evil or chaotic.
Archives of Nethys PF2E: Thassilonian Rune Magic
Archives of Nethys PF2e: Runelord
While historically, Thassilon is remembered for the powerful Runelords who squabbled for power prior to Earthfall, their descent into excess and rather evil behavior was just a consequence of failing to remain virtuous due to the temptations of Sin. Initially, Rune magic was in fact based on 7 virtues, but giving way to excess led to the 7 sins for which they are most commonly associated.
While taking this would amplify Perivolt's inclination towards certain behavior and would inform my roleplay of him a bit, it doesn't equal Evil or any other alignment related problems champions or clerics would have to address.
I'm really unsure why you have this impression.
Talindra Ravenheart

I guess I'm just not going to convince you, if "You draw untold power from runes, sometimes called sin magic. You associate with one of the seven vices, also known as the seven rewards of rule: envy (abjuration), gluttony (necromancy), greed (transmutation), lust (enchantment), pride (illusion), sloth (conjuration), and wrath (evocation). Studying these techniques often tempts you with the associated sin. While leaning into it could corrupt you, it might make you more powerful." is not enough. Oh, and there's also "You can Refocus by indulging in your school's sin in lieu of studying your spellbook." I am really confused as to how you think this is okay.
Perivolt Ornelos
I feel like you may be hung up on the word 'Sin.' While similar, Pathfinder isn't exactly equating the magic to precisely the same as the seven deadly sins of Catholicism. It's more like the idea of advancing in this field of studying makes you more prone to certain emotions and behavior.
As Perivolt deals in Evocation, he would fall under the Wrath category of Rune magic. The original virtue of this from Emperor Xin's founding
of Thassilon is righteous anger while wrath's opposite is kindness.
I'm not really clear why you're insisting I would have to 100% be committed to acting sinfully (real world morality), when acting "Sinfully" likely just means behaving in a way which represents the virtue/sin associated with the Rune.
Wrath = Perivolt is a little quicker to anger, and may have a harder time calming down once his wrath has been aroused. That's all I was expecting to have to do. Certainly not whatever you seem to be imagining.
A great example is actually Ioca's behavior during his and Perivolt's argument in Zellara's house. Ioca was very wrathful by definition, but several people actually agreed with his sentiments, and neither Lenrelle or Talindra were described as feeling compromised by the argument aside from just feeling awkward at being present for the fight.
Edited: Removed assumptions of Lenrelle and Talindra's thoughts and indicated only what was presented in posts.
Perivolt Ornelos
Another point to consider, while the School of Necromancy definitely sees more of its share of Evil folks, there are accepted uses of that school of magic all over Golarion. While a necromancer may get some sidelong glances and create a bit more suspicion when meeting people, it's not canon that every Good or Lawful cleric/paladin instantly goes into "Burn the heretic!" mode.
I see "Runelords" (or persons studying Thassilonian Rune Magic) as much the same way. It may be a branch of magic that has an unfortunate history associated with it, and obviously an unfortunate naming convention (the names of Sins), but it isn't designed to indicate a person is immediately devoid of any virtue or morality and is destined to follow the path of darkness.
If you still can't imagine your character being able to interact with someone who studies rune magic, then I will just concede for the sake of cohesion and not choose it.

Going to take some time to think about it (read: a nice, hot bath). There is a lot of me in Talindra, not least of which my sense of right and wrong and my passion. Thank you for listening and being patient :)
DM DoctorEvil
In my opinion, its how you play it and flavor it that matters most. One can study the occult without becoming a witch/warlock/devil worshipper etc. If the intent is to look at the virtue side of rune magic and not delve too deeply into the "sin" side per se, I don't see its going to be overly offensive. The campaign needs to good-themed and virtuous acting PCs, so I don't want to blur those lines -- there will be enough morally questionable choices ahead.
Not sure that this part of Varisia speaks exactly to the Runelord history, but you can still make it work if you want. I am not opposed to the idea, and we will have to see how it plays out but I appreciate your consideration of others, and if sounds like too much still, your willingness to find a different path.
Most important to me is the primary concept of all tabletop games: everyone has fun.
DM DoctorEvil
Just a heads up. I will be traveling to sunny Florida for the weekend. Leaving tomorrow AM, and getting back late on Sunday. As much fun as that sounds I will likely spend the whole weekend helping my oldest move out of her dorm and back home for the summer -- so just a lot of heavy lifting in high humidity.
I am unlikely to post during the time away, so likely won't resume until Monday evening.
Lenrelle
How would anyone feel about Perivolt taking the Runelord archetype? We're in Varisia...feels appropriate. :)
I'm quoting the above because you asked BUT ultimately it's your character and I respect that.
I can understand Talindra Player's concerns on this one. Whether it makes Perivolt EEEEVIL or not, it does risk his control as he could slip into the Sin of Wrath. I think it would be very in character for Talindra and Lenrelle to be worried about that, and that could create some in party tension with Perviolt and that may not be enjoyable for all involved.
But it looks like we just got DM Doctor Evil's view that it's possible to do the rune magic without plunging too deep into the Sin aspect, and as it's his game, that's rather reassuring to me.
A lot of how much of a headache it may or not be depends on how you choose to play it, but Perivolt IS your character so again, your call as far as I'm concerned.
I do appreciate you having asked for others opinions when you didn't have to. Thanks!

I've thought about this a lot, and so long as Perivolt isn't going to be making deals with Baphomet, I suppose it's okay. I can even see it providing some genuinely fun tension, assuming you do try to embody the virtue rather than the vice. Kindness is, after all, a core tenet of Talindra's code! It may turn out to be a journey we help one another on.
Going back to an earlier point, I would like to point out that I did try to stop the argument between Perivolt and Ioca. It wasn't particularly effective, but I did make the attempt.
On that note, though, did I find Elora's ring in the assorted treasures? Nothing stood out as belonging to her, but I'd like to make sure before we sell it!

Perivolt - Classic Wizard Level 2
Billi Hardstone
Cat companion is a standard template, I will make another alias for shadow.
May see when we can buy the 25gp barding later for Shadow.
As the primary tank, plate armor upgrade is the plan. I took hefty hauler to account for the 4 bulk of the plate armor.
DM DoctorEvil
Perivolt - Classic Wizard Level 2
Max HP = 15+6+1=22
Saves = Fort +1, Reflex + 1, Will + 1
Class Feat = Cantrip Expansion
Skill Feat = Arcane Sense
New spells acquired: Cantrip = Warp Step 1st level = Magic Missile
So by my count, you have 7 cantrip slots and 3 1stlevel slots now? Plus bonus spell and cantrip, plus Detect Magic at will?

I actually did a little internet searching and found a guide to convert PF1 loot to PF2 standards, so I will be rebasing the amounts i shared before. Sorry if it turns out less, but I think it will bring a bit better balance.
Talindra, if you want Ioca to take a 2/6 share, we can still work that out though it may be kind since you haven't sold anything yet.
I will update the values in the Loot Tracker when they are done.
