Entry Eleven: The track down the Sellen River was unbearable. Although Captain Shearwart did his best to accommodate our clergy, the trip was tedious. Luckily, we didn’t encounter any of the river patrols that we thought might come across our path. Once we reach Cassomir, we should be boarding a sea vessel large enough to accommodate our trip to Korvosa. We haven’t heard anything from our contacts from that regen for quite some time but the shipping lanes in that area are flush with potential. I suspect, after greasing the wheel a bit, we can pick up a few extra girls Korvosa. After resupplying, we will head to Magnimar, where Jonavan has arranged for four new girls. The pickup should be smooth, considering the area is well off the beaten path. From there, we will head to Sandpoint and meet with Gidra. Her and her crew should have a solid number for us.

Entry Fourteen: We have brokered a deal with the curator of the Quarterfaux Archive’s Darrick Humphry. He heads one of Caliphas’s underground gangs, which governs the city’s sewer system. The oversized system should take us directly to the temple without having to navigate through the city with the girls.

Entry Twenty-Three: We have collected fourteen girls in total, which should be enough to justify this trip. Adding these girls to our total should please Lord Eastabon. Assuming he doesn’t eliminate any of them, we should have enough to attempt the Gulden Ritual. If the ancient text is correct, this could free Tar-Baphon.

Entry Twenty-Seven: After investigating a disturbance that took place late last night, we have concluded that Sandpoint is aware of our operation. This could undermine our plans if they choose to pursue things further. I have decided, at no small expense, to attempt an old ritual called the awakening. If successful, it will leave Sandpoint with enough on their plate to keep them occupied for quite some time.

“Lost Minimum Wage Guy:” On the seventh page, second entry: The curator of the Quarterfaux Archive’s Museum, which is a subdivision of the archive, is requesting help locating a missing assistant. The contract offers round trip accommodations aboard a merchant vessel to Caliphas and four paid nights at a location of the group’s choice. The contract offers 1,000 gp on completion, with another 1,000 gp if the assistant is returned. The contract is sponsored by the Quarterfaux Archive. “No More Squatters:” On the sixth page, first entry: A request to investigate and eliminate suspected cult activity north of Caliphas, in Ustalav, stands out as one of the higher paying contracts. The contract offers 2,000 gp upon conformation of the cult and another 6,000 gp if they are eliminated. The sponsor for the contract is the Royal House of Ordranti. Yes, in fact I normally assume once a DC is hit that the information is shared with the group automatically. In pbp I feel it speeds the process along slightly. So, feel free to share at will.

I appreciate the input. I don't intend to call off the game unless everyone is wanting to do that. I wanted to give everyone a chance to participate, so I though a brief pause might be an option.

I've been more pressed for spare time lately than I'd anticipated, but the game has been great and I'm good to go.


OK, I just wanted to take a head count and make sure everyone was still good to go. That leaves Ionatan, who is likely out with the grand kids having some fun. I'll send him a PM and as soon as I hear back from him, we will continue. I'm a little concerned about Dario. He seemed to be enjoying the game a lot, so for him to go MIA this long, leads me to think something VERY BAD happened. That said, I'm going to post this just in case he gets a chance to read it.

Dario is welcome to jump back into the game, as long as it is running, at any time and at any point. There is a permanent spot for him. I will bot him until the group exits the dungeon then I will sideline until he wishes to jump back in.

I would say our only holdup at this point is Ionatan. I'm getting a bit concerned, thinking something bad might have happened. His last post, that I can see, was April 12th. That's almost two weeks without posting anything.

Hopefully not anything too bad, but people do get busy and such.


At some point we may need to decide if we want to continue with only three players. Granted cleric, blood ragger, and caster does cover a lot of the areas of concern. But it is only three just the same. I will leave it up to you guys.

I like playing Wayilant. And I like how he interacts with the other players. And Nightfiend has so much cool game to play for us! I don't want to lose that! Either we find a replacement or we go on as three adventurers with Ionathan being a NPC until we get back to civilzation.

Sounds good to me. Maybe we can pick up a player or two as needed in the future.

Another possibility if we want to stick with 3 players would be to go gestalt. :) Bryndís could probably find a class that's compatible to cover basic Rogue stuff if nobody else could make it fit.

If we decide to go gestalt, Muziel could probably go Empiricist Investigator for trap disabling. I'm lacking in creative ideas for gestalt that fit Muziel other than boosting his skills, since he's supposed to be just old and smart dwarf.

I lean toward new players when we get the chance, rather than gestalt.

If we did go gestalt, Investigator or Alchemist pairs very well with a wizard. Extracts can be handed out beforehand, which cuts casting times down. A wizard can buff that way and go straight to offensive or control spells when combat starts.

At low level it also prolongs a wizard's adventuring day by offsetting the small number of spells per day. At higher level a wizard can transfer a lot of buff, support, and utility casting into alchemy, keeping spell slots open for the best spells.

Gestalt doesn't fix the action economy disadvantage that small parties incur, fewer actions per round compared to adversaries. An extract and spell combo goes toward helping by cutting the actions needed to accomplish things.

If we decided to bring in a couple more people, I could probably rustle up at least one from somewhere.


My mind is thinking one more player after we clear this adventure. Keeping the group at 4 would allow room for both Dario and Ionatan to rejoin if wanted to. Obviously, if a lot more time passes, and we don't hear from them, then we could consider adding another player or two.


Apologies for the delayed response. I have been going back and forth with the flue. I think I'm at the end of it now and should be a bit more consistent.

OK, now I have a simi-bizarre question. Seeing we are hitting on modules that date back, that brings about a question about items found within. Some of those items don't have pathfinder versions and may not have an option within hero labs to select and apply them. That said, some of the older stuff, especially in much older modules, have some fairly cool things.

So, the question is, would you guys prefer that I leave the items within the module as written? Or would you prefer that I reassign them to the most viable pathfinder option?

Sorry you keep everyone waiting. I didn't realize it was my turn and decided to use the long weekend to go camping before the weather turns so hot.


All is good. I resolved to move the game as fast or slow as is convenient for everyone. If you require a couple of days for R & R, we simply slow it down a little and pick it up when things clear up. I will send a PM after a day or so, just in case the Paizo's boards fail to flag or update posts, which has happened from time to time. Aside from that, this is a long game of convenience. Post when you can without worry.

OK all, I would prefer not to drag this out any longer than it needs to be. Seeing we haven't heard from Wayilant since the 7th, I'm going to assume something has come up and he is unavailable.

Setting up and running a game takes a lot of prep. Because of that, and the fact that I'm currently botting Dario in order to have someone along who can deal with traps, I really don't have the bandwidth to bot any other characters. Nore, do I wish to have one-week intervals between each post. Because of that, and the fact that we had so many sudden dropouts, I'm of the mind to conclude the game and bring it to a close.

I can say that I have enjoyed playing with everyone and I think the game had potential even though the current dungeon seems a bit slow. Anyway, my best wishes to everyone and I hope to see you out there on the boards.

Huh, that's too bad. I was liking the campaign. Maybe someday Bryndís will find a campaign that endures.

I took a look to see what's up with Wayilant's posting in other places and it was hard to figure out. He has new posts in a couple of games, but he hasn't posted in most of them very recently, dropping off from late May to a week or so ago.

Anyway, thanks for running this Nightfiend. You did a great job, pity it didn't make it farther.


Likely, just life causing a distraction. And like you, I thought the game was coming along fine, in general. The issues we have had, seem more in line with people having problems outside the game taking them away from the Paizo boards. Both Ionathan and Dario have not posted in any of their other games, which leads me to think they had something massively distracting come up. Instantly, stop posting all together, generally means something very bad. Wayilant, on the other hand, is likely distracted or doesn't realize he is up. I have seen Paizo fail to update or flag player's campaigns. That said, I would expect that people check in from time to time due to that, which leans more towards distracted.

Understandable Wayilant. I have had it twice. My thoughts where that you also had to step away for an extended period and I'm simply not up to botting any more than I currently am. Kind of feels like you're running a game for yourself when you're botting everyone.

Assuming you are back and wish to continue, we can proceed. Once we clear this dungeon, which looks like it's not to fare away, I will see about adding a couple more players. It doesn't feel like Dario or Ionatan are going to be coming back anytime soon.

I might even cut to the chase and shrink up some of the hoopla in order to move things along faster. That is, if everyone is on board with it.

I’m certainly game to continue! As you suggest, I think we should consider tying this one up in a bow soon so we can re-recruit. That should inject some energy back into the game.

I created a new map to enhance the upcoming encounter. Hopefully the new map is a lot clearer than the module's map. Apologies for the original map. It's an old module and the maps back then had a lot to be desired. Going forward, I will try and use fantasy maps online to recreate a more detailed map. It should enhance the experience a bit more. I'll have a post up shortly.
