GM Inara's Fall of Plaguestone

Game Master inara14

Combat map

I am looking for 2-3 more players who would like to join me in playing the Fall of Plaguestone Adventure.

There are already 2 players (Brainiac and Nikolaus D'Shade)

The Fall of Plaguestone tells the story of how a group of new adventurers traveling through the village of Etran's Folly—also known as Plaguestone—must come together to solve the murder of a friend while saving the town of Etran's Folly from a terrifying fate.

How the adventure begins:
The adventure begins with the PCs traveling to Etran’s Folly in the caravan of Bort Bargith, a dwarf merchant who agreed to take them on as passengers. The caravan is bound for the faraway capital of Andoran, Almas. The PCs are all passengers in this caravan, though if one of them has the teamster background, they might be working for it instead, driving the final wagon. They share the last wagon with the food, the camp chef Cooky, and a couple of other passengers. The travelers do not necessarily know each other at the start of the adventure, although some of them could be acquainted. None of them are particularly familiar with Bort, the caravan master, or any of the other teamsters.

I have GMd PF1E many a time and have played pf2e for a few years however have never GM'd it. This is my way of learning how to GM PF2E so please be patient with me and expect a few mistakes as I learn.

Engagement:
-This will be somewhat of a speed run of the adventure as I need to try and finish by April at the latest as I am GM-ing another adventure then.
-This is run on play by post for all game play on the paizo forums.
-Will use a discord channel for any ooc discussions rather than the paizo discussion thread.

Building a character:
-Level 1
-Common or uncommon Paizo content (found on Archives of Nethys). No rare ancestries etc (in order to make my life a little easier!).
-No guns please, haven't learned that one yet!
-We can use free archetype or ancestry paragon if the group chooses to, however assume not for now.
-Alignment: Non-Evil
-No need for a novel of a backstory as this is a short adventure, just an idea of who your character is.
-Please don't bother with tracking weight of equipment. Just dont be unreasonable.
-I won't be tracking xp but levelling up at appropriate times.

Aiming to start the game very shortly, so will finalize a group this weekend on Sunday morning GMT and get the first game post up then!

I am planning on building a leshy druid!

I'm going to go Witch!

With a familiar to play with the leshy!

I'd love to join! I've been itching to play a thaumaturge.

Hi - I've GM'd this module (a while ago now!); is that a dealbreaker? I'm good at keeping OOC knowledge away from PC knowledge...

*waves at Brainiac and Nik*

Hello All!
I have already played this one, but if you end up needing someone to round things out, I would be interested.

Yea PF2E!

@Wandering Wastrel - I wouldn't mind at all if you had played it before.

Seeing as you say you are learning to GM PF2 and Wandering Wastrel has GM’ed this exact adventure it could be very handy indeed!

Great, I will write up a dwarf cleric in the next couple of days.

Okay, druid and witch confirmed. Thaumaturge and cleric proposed. No guns.

That nixes my dwarf and goblin ideas.

I think I'm going to do a paladin. A meat shield type.

As promised, here is my paladin. A very aggressive orc paladin of Ragathiel.

Yes, he sometimes slays evil by yelling at it.

For some more detail, I'm going to be doing a Tiefling Witch of Curses! (As in 'a magnet for' rather than 'creator of').

I'm interested in this. Still learning the system, so I think I'll just try submitting that Fighter again for this, I just have to tweak her backstory since I tried to apply her for an AP.

Horizon Hunters

I am interested to join.

This is my fighter, adjusted her from the Abomination Vaults game I previously applied her to.

Lore:
Illyria had been a rather headstrong child growing up, perhaps a little too much to handle for her single mother, a priestess who had moved to a backwater Andoran town to apparently get away from the bustle of Absalom, and possibly avoid too many questions as to who the absent father might be. As a child, Illyria didn't show too many hints of who the other parent might be, though her skin did lighten in comparison to her mother as she aged, and her hair grew out to be a honey auburn instead of her mother's lush brown. Perhaps the most curious aspect about her that other locals eventually noticed was that she shared her mother's dull grey eyes in broad daylight, but they seemed to glimmer into a sparkling blue in the dead of the night.

Illyria grew up not particularly inclined to be devoted, but her mother apparently had already come up with a plan for her upbringing without consulting her. Ma had scrounged up a favour with a devoted knight who apparently intended to take her on as a squire up in Lastwall. Unwilling to disappoint her, she went along with it at first, but she was not particularly taken with the teachings of Iomedae, especially its defensive inclinations. The disaster that ended her training felt like vindication of her doubts. She has taken up with any survivors travelling south, hoping to eventually get herself back home..

I've never seen that before, but now you've pointed it out... maybe!

Liberty's Edge

Hi all!
I'm interested! I don't have much experience with 2e, so it's a learning experience for me too...

I was thinking of playing a dwarf alchemist, something like this:

Gromi Steelstein - background:

Gromi is a brewer. Apprentice, really. After all, only ten years practice of the craft is merely a beginner in dwarven terms. It's a family tradition, so Gromi follows on the footsteps of his father, just like father followed his father and so on. Steelstein Stout is a brand that has meant quality beer for generations.
The trouble is that Josef, Gromi's father and Steelstein's master brewer, had disappeared some weeks ago. And along with him, the greatest secrets in beer making. Leaving his older brother in charge of the brewery, Gromi set out to search for his father. Even if his focus thus far has been brewing, his studies has left him quite extensive understanding of alchemical processes - which might be useful in the world outside.
After a few weeks of investigations, Josef's trail seems to lead to the village of Etran's Folly. And that's where Gromi needs to go.

I'm going to have to drop - I've come down with a bad cold and won't have time/energy to put a character together by Sunday. It looks like you have a good number to choose from, anyway :)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Thanks for letting me know! I know the feeling - currently recovering from COVID!

Looks like we will have a good group - if anyone else wants to consider the game, then you have another 24 hours!

Interested. Here Twixt a gnome rogue.

I don’t have much 2e experience just played the first part of Agents of Edgewatch when a tpk encouraged my in person group to hastily jump back to 1e.

Twixt is always running from something or towards something but is really just an inquisitive gnome trying to make her way in the world. Unfortunately, her latest misadventure caused her to hastily leave town and join this caravan for Almas where she hopes to find her next big thing.

Edit: Also, you said this would be a fast paced game. I can commit to posting twice per day. If you are looking for more than that I am probably not a good fit. Good luck!

Grand Lodge

I don't see any discussion about Free Archtype or Ancestry Paragon yet, but I'd like to throw in an entry if we could use Ancestry.

That's too bad. I often find that P2e takes a bit of a mind shift on the players and especially the GM before people get good with it. I'd suggest giving it a second chance once a few people have experience with the rules.

And AoE definitely has a couple parts early on where they expect a lot from the players. It's hard to write first level adventures in any system that feel challenging without risking the characters.

I love free archetype, but I really don't like ancestry paragon.

For some ancestries paragon is okay, but for a lot of them, they simply don't have enough choices to be interesting. You either need to play a well-supported race, pay a feat tax of adopted ancestry, or lose out on benefits.

I suppose you could let players choose between free archetype or ancestry paragon.

Yeah it was a learning experience for sure. 2e seems like a well thought out system and I like how they cleaned up the action economy as well as limiting the number of bonus that stack.

@Twixt - AoE is definitely challenging in book 1. Did you nearly die in the animal menagerie area (eg owlbear etc)? Nd'S, Brainiac myself and another player are in the final combat of book 5 of AoE right now and let's just say that book 1 was pretty brutal when we were there too! PF2e on hard mode!

I think TPKs early on in pf2e are slightly less common than 1e due to the better rules of "dying" and more HP.

Yep. That was the place where the mighty heroes met their end.

Have fun with the game all!

Sorry, I'm sick right now. If you could bot me for a day or so, that would be great.
