Still working on my Shoanti Shaman - brewing up a mix of a Medicine Man meets Deep's version of Tonto.
Am envisaging the Shoanti's embrace of blackpowder being a slow one. As such my Shaman will pack an axe or hammer (as a nod to Earthbreakers) musket rather than a rifle (appreciate this might put him at a disadvantage in gun-fights, but he'll have plenty of tricks up his buckskin sleeves).
Regards world-building - in my mind's eye saw the HellKnights as sort of Ned Kellyesque in their get ups - trenchers and steel plating - as much for intimidation as protection.

Alright, after messing around with an indigenous character, I decided instead to play it straight. Here is Wes Higgins, Human bounty hunter, an old hand in the Wild West.
I built him off the Urban Hunter archetype of the Hunter to deal nonlethal damage, and picked up the Ranged Disarm feat so he can do the classic shoot a gun outta the other guy's hand move. Dual-wields revolvers. Would probably pick up a Gunslinger dip at level 5 if we get there.

Kaer Maga is a strange place, and the Bullet-Teeth fit in perfectly among it’s collection of madmen and misfits. Part mercenary troop, part mystic order, and part band of wandering gunslingers, they wander Avistan alongside mysterious but utterly loyal outsiders they call the Powdersworn.
It is among this strange fellowship that Casamir Ydrasku found himself. First just a wandering gun-for-hire with an interest in Thassilon and an eccentric streak a mile wide, he naturally wound up in Kaer Maga. It was in the City of Strangers that he met Lead Moreis, the leader of the Bullet-Teeth. They became fast friends, and within the month Casamir was taking part in the initiation rites of the Bullet-Teeth. That is to say, getting rip-roaring drunk and replacing one of his canines with a magical bullet that would connect him to his Powdersworn, a bulky, roughly humanoid construct-looking creature that identified itself as Lead-Rain. With the rank of First Shot bestowed, he was a full member of the Bullet-Teeth.
Casamir bummed around Kaer Maga for a few years, doing odd jobs and communing with the mysteries of lead and fire and gunsmoke. Kaer Maga, in it’s perpetual strangeness, was a delightful city. But Casamir though, was a small fish in a big, weird pond.
He left the vast city, wandering the countryside. The war in the east had ended a few years back, and chaos prevailed. Chaos, of course, made for plenty of gunsmoke and plenty of business for himself and Lead-Rain. When he wasn’t fighting for one town or another, against bandits or beasts or lawmen, he was delving into the ruins of old Thassilon, looking for mystic summoning secrets. He even met up with some others of the Bullet-Teeth in Riddleport and was given the rank of Second Shot (and replaced a second canine with yet another magic bullet).
The Cyphergate was interesting, but half of Avistan had heard of it, and its secrets were either all well-known or frustratingly vague. He caught wind of some rumors about the Old Light in the little town of Sandpoint, and thought he’d enjoy the warmer weather down south. He caught a boat heading there, hoping to learn some Thassilonian secrets, or at the very least just make some money with some odd jobs.
Casamir, or Cas to most, is an odd man to say the very least, though nobody lives in Kaer Maga for long without picking up their fair share of strangeness. Casamir came to fit in well with the perpetual oddness of Kaer Maga, mostly thanks to the Bullet-Teeth. Much of what he takes enjoyment out of is right in line with that of a Varisian drifter. He loves whiskey and song, drinking and leisure, maybe a long, hot bath after the end of a long day of travel. His other pleasures are…strange. Hallucinogens are a favorite of his order, sending their minds elsewhere while shrouded in gunsmoke so that they might better understand the mysteries of their magic. Ruin delving, too, is a favorite of Casamir, using his and Lead-Rain’s unrelenting firepower to blast aside enemies in their way of the secrets of lost Thassilon. His moral compass is similarly odd. Most Bullet-Teeth work as guns for hire, and he is no exception. While he refuses to cause harm to innocents and will never pick a fight with someone who can’t return in kind, he will take most any job if the coin is good or if the promise of greater knowledge lies at its end. With all that said, Casamir is a friendly and approachable, if rather unpredictable ally. He values those he travels with and takes little convincing to pursue a good cause.
Lead-Rain is often quiet, but when it does speak up or take action on its own, it serves as a tempering voice to Casamir’s wildness. That said, it rarely seeks to temper him by much, and most often pursues it’s summoner’s goals without question.
Cas is a human male in his early 30s, salt-and-pepper hair cut short (though rarely visible under his wide-brimmed hat) and a goatee of the same color on his chin. He smiles often, and his most defining trait becomes visible, that of two bullets where his top canines used to be. That fondness for ammunition extends to other aspects of his garb, with a necklace of spent casings around his neck as well as several bandoliers and ammo belts, one of which is magically enchanted.
Lead-Rain is a stoutly built metallic creature that almost resembles a centaur in terms of body construction. Four powerful legs end in hook-like claws, allowing it to scale walls with ease. A burly torso extends from the four-legged section of its body, with a large metallic hand on one of its arms and an arm-mounted rifle on the other. Its face is fully smooth save for two hollow eyes.

Updated Eunice's concept a bit — still sculpting at Thassilonian ruin, but adds two important western tropes: The widowed and/or orphaned rancher and a Wonder Horse that can do simple arithmetic.
Going for the Scion of Legend trait if that works; both parents were involved in the Rise of the Runelords AP. Her mother never made it past the mid-chapters; her father survived the whole thing but was broken up by the loss of her mom and never adventured again.

Quick question: Does the Bard spell Abundant Ammunition work for pistol ammunition?

Eunice Flint |

Oh yeah, I forgot the horse
Raqi: 2d8 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
Updated Eunice with a bit more history, but here’s a tl;dr version
1. Rancher and sculptor who raises horses in the foothills of the Stony Mountains, at the site of a Thassilonian ruin she’s in the process of dismantling.
2. Daughter of two of the heroes from Rise of the Runelords. Mother died in the effort, father lived but retired from adventuring to mourn.
3. Father disappeared recently
4. Has taken up her father’s years-long project — to convert the remaining ruin into a proper memorial for her mother and the other Sihedron heroes.
5. Many people think that’s a terrible plan, for a variety of sensible reasons.
6. Genie blood on her mother’s side; lived for a time with her great-grandmother.
7. Homebody*: Has seen the Opaline Vault in the Peerless Empire of the Shaitan, but not Korvosa or even Riddleport.
8. Step-mother, half-brothers live in Roderic’s Cove. She goes there in the spring and fall.
9. Personality: Classic rancher: Stubborn, single-minded, little time for drama.
10. Prefers horses to people, but has roots in Roderic’s Cove so some of the people there — the ones who don’t try to talk her out of the memorial idea — are OK by her

Hmmm, I was going to repost the list this morning, Guess I don't need to :)
Any more information on possible 'other rules' on guns or feats?
Depending on what you find I may alter my choice on gear and possibly feats. I was originally thinking matching revolvers like 'Wild Bill' Hickock. But may go with a regular pistol and 'pocket' pistol if it improves my chances to use 'bullet rend.'

GM SuperTumbler |

Robert Henry |

Take a look at these (everyone) and see what you think for additional firearms. I'm not a gun expert (nor is my intention verisimilitude). Just looking for some reasonable options to fill niches not currently in the rules.
It's a start, we can work on it more once the game gets started. I'm curious to see if anyone attaches the derringer to a spring loaded wrist sheath :)

GM SuperTumbler |

I was trying to think about the sorts of feats (not in the rules sense) that we see characters perform with them and adding damage at close range or bigger multiplier at close range or something, but decided someone with a wrist sheath or something where they use it in surprise is more of a sneak attack/character ability sort of thing than a quality of the weapon. With sneak attack, a surprise attack and attack at top of initiative with the second shot could put out pretty good damage.

Category Region
Requirement(s) Varisia (Cinderlands)
Your sacred power over life and death causes fear in your enemies.
Once per day as an immediate action when you cast a spell of the healing subschool or a hex that produces the effect of such a spell, you can attempt an Intimidate check to demoralize your target or anyone who can see you within 30 feet. You gain a +2 trait bonus on this check.

I don't think you need a "ruling" on it, or at least not right now. If we get into combat, and you feel our derringer-pistol-wrist-sheath-killer deserves sneak attack in how he approached someone, then maybe give it in that instance only (or maybe a bonus damage number equal the number of dice a sneak attack rogue would roll at our level). If someone has a rifle, and they are leading a target and are riding a horse, maybe give them a minor penalty due to the beast's movement. What I'm saying is that each instance of bonuses or penalties can be applied on the fly and up to your discretion for the "rule of cool" in favor or penalty of the players. If someone is roleplaying great, or posting frequently, or just lost their puppy IRL, then you can modify how you see fit and for what instance you feel like. That should keep an NPC from sniping the party and you saying, "Well, he snuck up behind you, so that's 4d6 sneak attack damage on top of that crit. So sorry, that damage is 'in the rules'".

Hi there! I have put together a Legendary Alchemist to try and fill the "mad scientist" Wild West niche. The character is here: Myrandya. Basically, she is a naive little devil child with a pseudo-German accent. She was raised in a Fallout-like dungeon that was built to keep her safe by her father, one of the Sihedron Heroes. She is quick and smart, a clever explorer and a gifted healer. She's also good at making things explode. :)
The Legendary Alchemist and the Urban Adept archetype has a lot of overlap with investigators, and it also feels a bit like a Scholar from Spheres of Might. I particularly like their tactical analysis ability, which lets them make Knowledge checks to buff the party like a bard. I hope you'll consider adding her to your game!

Ok, we've got some time to kill while we wait for characters to get chosen.
Question: What's your FAVORITE Western movie?
I'll go first. Sometimes I think it's Tombstone...because frankly, that's an amazing flick that I really love. BUT, my all time favorite is Silverado. The cast is amazing. Brian Dennehey. Danny Glover. Scott Glenn. Jeff Goldblum. Kevin Kline. A young Kevin Costner. The story is fantastic and epic. Love that movie.

Does Blazing Saddles count? Also, I really love the iconic music from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. I ran a Deadlands campaign for a couple of years and I always played that and the music from LucasArts’s Outlaws.
Here’s a link to the song that most inspires me for Myrandya: The Ballad of Doctor Death. :)

Eunice Flint |

Agreed with all so far -- Silverado was a hoot, though I haven't watched it in years.
Music is also part of what I love about The Magnificent Seven, and though that isn't a sad movie, the last scene (and even moreso in the Seven Samurai) has a bit of the melancholy that's present in some of my favorite Westerns — Unforgiven and The Shootist and even Butch Cassidy — that these characters and these worlds are fading, about to be swept away by modernity. In that, this style of Western has a lot in common with old-school fantasy, whether it's Arthurian tales or Tolkien.

Robert Henry |

Question: What's your FAVORITE Western movie?
Kurt Russel/Val Kilmer -"Tombstone" Movie most quoted around the house. If not my favorite western on any give day, always in the top three, and definitely the best of the 'OK Corral' Movies.
John Wayne - Big Jake: saw it at the drive in when I was twelve, We didn't do many movies out, theater or drive-in so it was special, loved the fact that he was rescuing his grand son, didn't hurt that the boy was around my age.
Clint Eastwood - 'The Outlaw Josey Wales' civil war and post-civil war I know the guns were converted, but they 'looked like cap and ball revolvers. I abhor when movies use guns that didn't exist during the era. OH, and it's a great movie other than that as well.
Kevin Costner - 'Open Range' "You the one that killed our friend?"
Tom Selleck - 'Quigley Down Under' come on, you all know you want that rifle.
Best remakes: The Magnificent Seven: love them both. I thought Crowe and Bales "3:10 to Uma" was better than the original. But I thought Waynes "True Grit" was better than Bridges.
Others that are the best of their era or style: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Silverado, Blazing Saddles, El Diablo, Two mules for Sister Sarah, McClintoc, Wild Bill, Django Unchained, Appaloosa and the Shootist.
Westerns mixed with other genres:
Super hero: Logan
Horror: Priest
Science Fiction: Outland
post apocalyptic: Book of Eli
Mid 20th century: 'Last Man Standing' but this also could have been under 'remakes'
Sadly, I'm old enough to have tossed most of my VHS collection and still have two book cases full of DVD's. The largest part of which is westerns. Yeah, all the movies I listed I either own on DVD or owned on VHS (looking at you Outland)
Some times it's hard to pick which is my favorite. But the first three I listed are probably them.

You're a man after my own heart, Mr. Henry.
If I answer "Firefly" to your questions... Would any of you complain? :) I hope it's okay to genre bend a little bit. But I do like the old Italian movies as well.
Love me some Firefly. I aim to misbehave.
