I think we're still waiting for the guitar player
Embidi |
Here's Embidi's boons:
Personal: Hanakan Admittance
Faction: Acquisitives (unless this is one of those scenarios where slotting Exo-Guardians matters)
Promotional: t-shirt re-roll
Ally: Professional Hireling (Tech Support: Computers, Engineering, Physical Science)
Social: -
Starship: -
Slotless: Planar Preparations (x1/session, treat Resistances of 1 ID'd Outsider as 5 less)
Envar's Gift (Swift action: fascinate non-allies for 1 round)

As regards Starship combat (if it comes up):
Embidi is best as a Captain, with high Charisma, and Expertise on Diplomacy. Beyond that, he's decent enough at Magic Officer, and in a pinch he can be a backup Gunner.
He's also brought his professional hireling nerd along, so if absolutely needed he can pinch-hit for Science Officer or Engineer.

Momo was told that happiness is a warm coilgun, so she usually sticks to gunnery stations. Also, most ships don't need a captain per se, usually having an extra set of gunnery hands outweighs the benefits of a captain.

I put up the hex map on Slide one (above) with "dots" for the ships. This only my 2nd time running Starfinder and first running Starship combat so if I miss something. I'll correct a ruling then move on :)
In case you're interested, I have a version of the starship rules linked in my strapline (^^ up there), and I have an excel tool that helps in starship combat, see the discussion here (link)
You're also welcome to nab icons from my in-game maps if you need them, e.g. here (link)

Posting here to not clog up Gameplay thread.
Re: hirelings: Embidi's hireling is just Computers, Engineering, and Physical Science, so no help there for Gunnery, I'm afraid :(
Re: where to move in first round of starship combat: my thought is, let them move first, and then Evade, trying to come in at their side. I.E. if they move straight ahead at their current facing, have us fire at their Starboard. If they turn to face us face-to-face (which it sounds like they like? lol) then have us dart up and about to hammer their side.
Something like this?

Yay, tactics.
If a Vesk captain asks you to face their ship head on, that's a good indication that's where they have their big gun installed. If we can avoid their front arc while keeping ours pointed at them, that's the best possible outcome.
Your image isn't working as I'm looking at it (something about a server overload). Anything that ends us up on the side of the Vesk ship is great.
Re: hireling: Can't even fire at +0? Assuming we can get the front pointed at the ship, we have two usused coilguns. With +0 gunnery, at TL 14 (our ship's AC, theirs might be better) you're still looking at a 30% chance to hit.
Embidi |
So you want the Vesk Ship to pass you then hit it in the side?
I propose that that's what we're going for, yeah! (If we have the Piloting chops, best to try and Evade as well, but that's secondary.) Sounds like Momo agrees. The Vesk lost Piloting initiative, so they're moving first regardless, right? Why don't they just move, and then we can place ourselves once we know what they're doing.
I'm fine with trying to be 'honourable' and not target their aft, but hey, the captain didn't say anything about port & starboard :DRe: hireling: Can't even fire at +0?
The language on what the Hirelings can and cannot do is really restrictive - they can only make the relevant skill checks, and can't take other actions. I mean, Embidi can be a secondary Gunner, too, if we really needed; but I'm pretty sure that Embidi and the Hireling share Actions. So the Hireling can't do Science Officer stuff while Embidi does Gunnery stuff on the same turn, for example. Gotta pick and choose. If Round 1 goes well, though, maybe I'll hop onto a coilgun in Round 2 :D

I can see Embidi's picture now, and I've reproduced it to the best of my abilities on the map, with arcs and all.
@Niobrar: I understood the GM's rolls as the first roll being for the Vesk ship, the second being for us. We've won the pilot check, so we get to move after the vesk ship.

Also, did I mess up the map too much? Happy to clean it up.

Happy birthday Mrs. Qstor :D
Sorry, I don't mean to slow things to a crawl - I'm ok saying we explore everything south of the Bridge in one go, if that's what you want, GM!
I'm just trying to get a handle on which rooms are merely 'empty' set pieces vs which are ones we're supposed to explore individually - like does the adventure assume we go in and fight the four-armed robot, or whatever. I don't want to miss out on some clue or plot piece or treasure or credit reward because I assumed "oh the GM is telecasting that this room is creepy but, mechanically, empty and there's nothing to do here so we move on."
I'm uncertain if you're posting four rooms at once because all there is to do in each is look at it, read the description, and then leave OR if you're posting four rooms at once because you want us to choose one to go look at, and then we'll narrate our characters going in, making checks, poking around, etc.
Am I making sense? I don't know if I explained that well lol

Yes, that's fine. I posted all the rooms cause some GMs post all the rooms in an area and assume the PCs check each one separately.
Make checks for each room you want to explore :)

@GM Qstor I've gotten a rare opportunity to play this character in another PbP run of a scenario I've been dying to play for a while. Do you have a sense on how much scenario is left for us here? Not that I'm in a rush; just trying to get a sense of if you think we'll be done in the next week-ish, or if you think we'll go right to the Nov 20 end date.

I'll try and get the scenario finished by Nov. 11th?

Sweet - I appreciate that :) Thanks!

Just my thoughts...This is only my 2nd time running Starfinder :) But veteran Pathfinder GM.
I Google'd incorporeal and Energy damage and Starfinder but couldn't find anything on point.
From SRD:
"An incorporeal creature doesn’t have a physical body. It is immune to all nonmagical kinetic attacks. All energy attacks and magical kinetic attacks deal half damage (50%) to it."
The way I read it, is that magic energy isn't half'd but then it does say ALL but it goes out to point out that magical kinetic energy attacks deal half damage.
The Pathfinder SRD reads differently
"Even when hit by spells or magic weapons, it takes only half damage from a corporeal source (except for channel energy)."
It's a very tough fight if magic energy is half'd.
DM Kludde |
The rules: An incorporeal creature doesn’t have a physical body. It is immune to all nonmagical kinetic attacks. All energy attacks and magical kinetic attacks deal half damage (50%) to it. An incorporeal creature takes full damage from other incorporeal creatures and effects, as well as from all force effects.
In my view lead to the following choice chart:
- Is the attack a force attack or are you incorporeal (I hope not)?
Y -> Full damage (stop)
N -> Continue
- Is it an energy attack?
Y -> Half damage (stop)
N -> Continue (not energy, so kinetic)
- Is the attack magical?
Y -> Half damage (stop)
N -> No damage (stop)
So yeah, magic energy would be halved, except for force effects (such as magic missiles). Momo's blade (non-magical kinetic, no damage) would be useless, unless she uses that fire enhancement (half damage).
Embidi |
Seconded. Energy attacks, magical or not, would deal 50% damage. Wish I had bought more Magic Missile spells gems, now XD

I'm really sorry about this but I need to take a mental health break from PbP for a while. I'm just not in the right headspace for it and I'm not enjoying it. I would suggest trying to find someone to fill my spot, and maybe some point down the road, we'll meet at another table.

Sorry! Please get well! Health is more important!

That's rough - hope you feel better, soon!

Just realised I have missed something on Skip's build. Witchwarper gets 4 skill ranks plus intelligence mod. So his +1 gave him 5 skill ranks per level. I totally missed the skilled trait for humans, which would have given him another skill point per level.
Just think, he could have actually been useful somewhere in this ship!

Unexpectedly fitting for that name
