Krakazh |
OK with splash (ditto on hit points). I have a glyph to distribute. If any character has a problem with loud noises, I apologize in advance. :D
Alonzo Tamarisk |
Oh, sure, splash away.
Crunch, Champion of Torag |
Resistant to fire, so that's not a big deal in splash terms.
Anything else, check current hp and situation - Crunch is probably tanking anyway, so a couple points here and there is no big deal.
My big note is don't get too far away from Crunch. Retributive Strike is only effective within 15' feet - and they get to step before swinging on top of the Resist-9.
Alonzo Tamarisk |
I am supposed to have a glyph — I've GMed enough tables — but Paizo.
So. GM's call as to whether I actually have one or not to give.
GM Erich |
I trust you Alonzo, Paizo takes the land route sometimes when the river is perfectly navigable.
GM Erich |
Also, make sure your character info is updated in your header and profile and please place a circular token of your character in the Maps and Handout sheet.
GM Erich |
I've placed a hero point next to each character in the handouts. We have four extra to be distributed (so far, anyone else with glyphs to give?). They are next to the picture of Eliza. Feel free to distribute those to the others as you see fit, Zina and Alonzo.
I'll try to hand out a new one every week or so... check this space...
GM Erich |
Also, it looks like we are playing high tier (22 CP) so Alonzo will get a level bump and is eligible for the mentor boons if anyone else has any to offer.
Increase every DC the PC has by 1.
Increase the attack modifiers, attack damage, spell damage, saving throw modifiers, skill modifiers, Perception modifiers, and AC of the PC by 1.
Increase the Hit Point totals of the PC by 10 or by 10%, whichever is higher.
Krakazh |
I have a glyph and the Skillful Mentor boon (additional +1 to skill checks)
Krakazh |
Gave mine to Alonzo for now.
Anjo Aroh |
Not sure what my options are for sword school.
Alonzo Tamarisk |
Oh, yeah, hey, School items. One of these days I'll remember that without being reminded. Today is not that day.
L3 scroll of heal.
GM Erich |
Alonzo, you can also benefit from up to two mentor boons, looks like Magical Mentor and are available from this party.
While working with less experienced Pathfinder allies, you provide key spellcasting insights that augment your colleagues’ magic. Any PCs benefiting from a Level Bump and whose levels are lower than yours can prepare one additional spell of their highest-level spell slot or cast one additional spell of their highest-level spell slot. When casting spells of a magical tradition that is the same as the tradition you use for spellcasting, the affected PC also increases the Level Bump’s modifier to spell DCs to 2.
While working with less experienced Pathfinder allies, you provide vital advice to sharpen your newer colleagues’ skills. For any PCs benefiting from a Level Bump and whose levels are lower than yours, you increase the Level Bump’s modifier to skill checks to 2.
Alonzo Tamarisk |
Heh, usually I'm the one imparting the mentor boons. :-)
Magical Mentor is a clear option, in my opinion. Thanks!
GM Erich |
@Alonzo You can benefit from both.
Finish selecting your items or any other supplies you need. Looks like the accumulated hero points have been handed out. Plop them next to Eliza if you need to use them during the adventure. In the interest of time, I'll list DCs when I can so you can compute failures and use your hero point mid-post if you want.

2 lesser healing potions for Crunch.
One last minute purchase - Cheetah's Elixir (moderate, 25gp), then they are ready.
Anjo Aroh |
Here's the list of schools and what they give you.
Taking a scroll of haste for school
Thanks. Where do we find out what faction boons we've purchased or can purchase? It doesn't look anything has been marked on my Chronicles.
Anjo Aroh |
Ah great.
It looks like I have Combat Mentor for the level bumpee.
I also have Adversary lore x2. I'll choose Astral and Ethereal for the creature types that I get a +1 circumstantial bonus on for Recall knowledge.
GM Erich |
In case we need secret rolls for this scenario, I am going to roll a set of them out now.
Roll#1: 10d20 ⇒ (12, 5, 9, 3, 13, 3, 15, 13, 20, 19) = 112
Roll#2: 10d20 ⇒ (17, 13, 13, 1, 15, 3, 12, 20, 12, 6) = 112
Roll#3: 10d20 ⇒ (19, 7, 14, 11, 16, 13, 4, 11, 5, 10) = 110
Roll#4: 10d20 ⇒ (14, 14, 18, 6, 15, 3, 18, 4, 6, 4) = 102
Roll#5: 10d20 ⇒ (15, 1, 7, 14, 12, 1, 8, 10, 4, 3) = 75
Roll#6: 10d20 ⇒ (12, 19, 9, 16, 17, 15, 11, 9, 11, 9) = 128
Roll#7: 10d20 ⇒ (20, 10, 17, 2, 9, 15, 11, 5, 7, 18) = 114
Roll#8: 10d20 ⇒ (5, 1, 15, 4, 8, 10, 15, 13, 19, 19) = 109
Roll#9: 10d20 ⇒ (11, 16, 18, 2, 13, 16, 10, 3, 10, 4) = 103
Roll#10: 10d20 ⇒ (16, 4, 13, 9, 17, 10, 17, 17, 15, 4) = 122
Anjo Aroh |
Wait..before I read any IC posts, I am choosing Abberations for my second Advesary Lore. I am mixing up this character's scenario with the other one I'm in which is on the dream plane.
Alonzo Tamarisk |
FYI, all: I'm out of town this weekend. I will be spotty. Please bot as needed. (Alonzo's MO is liberal use of wild shape, but isn't afraid to use spells either.)
Crunch, Champion of Torag |
Wasn't sure if that post was assuming that we all immediately shared our knowledge, or if it was setting up the need for us to stop the NPCs from doing something bad. *wink*
GM Erich |
Hey all, feel free to take your time on this next turn. I will be out of pocket on Wednesday on business travel meetings but will return on Thursday at some point.
Crunch, Champion of Torag |
Forgot the Inspire Defense on both my save and the hits against me... 31 AC would create two misses, wouldn't it?
Looks like we're all forgetting the bonus on our saves. :)
GM Erich |
I'm just looking at the header row in your post. Please adjust those as if that is the answer to any my questions at a physical table.
Crunch, Champion of Torag |
I'm always a little hesitant to make temporary changes, but will do!
Krakazh |
I'm adding them as +1s, so I know where they come from.
Ashes the Silent |
This is my first character in Pathfinder, and my second character in any rpg. I'm used to playing her on Foundry, which totals all the attacks and damages for you, so am not sure if I did it right, (though I am aware the attacks probably missed.)
GM Erich |
@Ashes Looks good, some might separate the 4d6 into 2d6+2d6 just to keep things straight (in case the foe negates precision damage, for instance) but not that big a deal
Anjo Aroh |
Can a PC intentionally fail a save like this, and if so, what happens if I get pushed back off the map?
Zinadrina Giovina |
Uhhhhh I have a hazy memory that somewhere in the FAQ it was allowed to voluntarily lower the result of your save by one step
Edit: found it
Pathfinder Society uses the optional rules published with the liminal on page 143 of Bestiary 3 for this situation, which are reproduced here:
There aren’t default rules for a creature choosing to be hit[...], but you can allow an ally to improve their outcome by one degree of success against a willing target or allow the target to worsen the result of their saving throw by one step.
That's intended for allies on allies, but I guess it could be applied here as well if the GM allows it?
Crunch, Champion of Torag |
Not sure how prone and flying interact.
Happy to see the crit though! :D
GM Erich |
@Anjo, I'd allow it, but you still have to roll and then adjust by 1 level if you wish, if you fail just move back 20 feet like Krakazh did. The far right edge of the white map is the edge of the demiplane though, so you would stop there
@Crunch If you would be knocked prone while you're Climbing or Flying, you fall. When you fall more than 5 feet, you take bludgeoning damage equal to half the distance you fell when you land. If you take any damage from a fall, you land prone. Looks like, since she is only 5 feet up, you just knock her down but she lands on her feet.
GM Erich |
@Ashes I think you are using your full skill bonus on assurance but it should only be the proficiency bonus (+7 level +4 expert = +11 in your case)
Anjo Aroh |
@Anjo, that's why you have to roll it out, your body wouldn't listen to you. :)
So I have no control over my body?
The good thing is that it really doesn't matter in this instance. However, there's something fundamentally amiss.
When a Ranger gets Evasion or Juggernaut, they can't get just a normal success. So ruling in this fashion means no Ranger can't ever voluntarily fail a Reflex/Fortitude save. So a Ranger can't jump off a cliff unless he critically fails. That doesn't make sense.
I'm pretty sure it was established that you could fail saves in PF1. One of the core improvements in PF2 vs PF1 was to give GM's latittude in making calls that make sense, regardless of the lack of formal rules support. I should think if a PC wants to let themselves get blown back, they woudl have the ability to do so. Again, it doesn't matter here.
GM Erich |
You have some control over your body (or mind). The higher your bonus, the more control you have. The problem with automatically failing saves in PFS2 is critical failures. If you don't roll (like in this case) you will never have a chance to be prone. So do you also get rid of the critical success, too? Maybe your subconscious second guesses your logic and keeps you from failing willingly. I kind of like that flavor
Grabbing an edge is a reflex so you don't actually have to make that save, so you can just fall in that case if you wanted. But I get the point about juggernaut and such. Since they both modify the result of the roll, you could just rule thàt the roll is downgraded first (to a failure) and then juggernaut wouldn't kick in.
I'd also be up for letting a player forego their bonus on a save in order to increase the chance it fails. Though that would also increase the chance of a crit fail.
Interesting discussion, still haven't 100% convinced myself. first time it's come up in PFS2.
Ashes the Silent |
healing from treat wounds: 2d8 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
To clarify Ashes' next-to-last post, it wasn't a crit fail so,
drop sword ◆◆ quickdraw bow, strike twice, ◆treat wounds.
