The Shrike and Guillaume press the attack, but neither can strike their target.

The Hound tries to unleash an onslaught on attacks on Guillaume but the combination of Rhysak’s hex and Fellzir’s shield of faith serves to keep him untouched.

Cimri strikes at the Angel Knight, trying again to capitalize on the bloodrager’s position opposite her. But she just can’t find a gap in the Knight’s defenses.

Rhysak sees that Aurelius needs his protection more than the rogue at the moment, so he shifts his ward hex onto the Omdura.
The warded creature receives a +2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saving throws. This ward lasts until the warded creature is hit or fails a saving throw.

The Angel Knight tops herself off with another tap to the chest. But just as Fellzir suspects, it is becoming clearer by the moment that she can’t keep this up much longer.

Correct, The Shrike is no longer menaced.

Male Tiefling Bloodrager 4 (Primalist, Steelblood)

Guillaume decides to take a different tack. Trusting the fire of his weapon to harm the Knight, he swings for accuracy, not power. Dropping Power Attack

As terrible as my rolls have been I don't think it would've mattered, but I think I still had the -2 from last combat where I was menaced built into my attack math. Should be fixed now. I noticed when I decided to drop power attack and ran through Herolab's numbers trying to figure out where the other minuses were coming from.

The Hound continues to try and harry Guillaume, but cannot land a hit.

With Aurelius down but no longer out, the Knight watches him carefully as she turns her smite on Cimri. She lashes out ruthlessly, cutting down the rogue in one strike.

Cimri takes 30 damage and falls unconscious at -3/27hp

Then she steps to loom over the helpless Cimri, putting her back to the wall. The Hound steps as well, closing the distance between them so he can continue to protect his charge.

Aurelius, being prone invokes his incantation of healing, which I think does not provoke.

Fellzir recognizes the Omdura's incantation and approves of what that will mean for Cimri. If the AK doesn't notice the rogue healing, she may be in for a rude surprise.

He uses his left hand to extract one of Aurelius's CLW potions and his right hand to slide him out of easy reach of the AK.

The Shrike, I marked the space you are asking about with a cyan square. I also don't think you could access it from where you are now. I will allow that Guillaume could attack through that space with his reach weapon, though.
Yes, the Hound is shaken, but the paladin is immune. They both look to be about 2 solid strikes away from being unconscious.

Afraid not, she's a tough nut to crack.

With the concerted efforts of The Shrike and Guillaume, the Hound Archon loses consciousness, slumping to the floorboards as his greatsword tumbles from his hand. Though seriously wounded by Guillaume's attack, it is clear that he is not dying and merely unconscious for the time being.

"Aericad!" Lencia cries out, her voice breaking beneath the angelic visage of the helm. She begins to pray in a tone that quavers in the beginning but grows stronger with every word. "Iomedae, I am your servant. I will guard the honor of my fellows, both thought and deed, and I will have faith in them. I will never abandon a companion, though I will honor sacrifice freely given." Her voice lowers as she steps forward to face her fate and mete out the goddesses justice with her sword. "I will give honor to worthy enemies, and contempt to the rest." She intones as she strikes out at Aurelius, felling him once again.

Cimri collects her kukri and regains her feet, but she eyes the Angel Knight warily. She feels the specter of her looming mortality keenly and has no wish to share in Aurelius' apparent fate. She throws the blade, but it rebounds off the substantial armor of the Knight.

Lencia Visserene makes a truly terrible gurgling sound as a fount of blood gushes from the nose and eyes of the steel-clad face. The Angel Knight falls, thudding to the floorboards of the tree-fort with a reverberation that seems to shake the structure like a minor quake.

A glow fills the room as the body of the Hound Archon disintegrates into golden motes which flow across the open trap floor and swirl around the prone form of the Angel Knight and then fly off through the leafy canopy of the Titan Aspen and beyond. Then the trap-door finally closes again with a KA-THUNK and all is silent.

The wooden effigy of Iomedae's countenance seems altered as you look upon it, a triumphant smile upon her lips that you do not remember being there when you entered the room.

Seeing the enemy no longer moving, The Shrike sheathes sword. He tries to wipe his brow, but remembers the mask is on the way. And it is getting sweaty against his skin.

There lies the Angel Knight. The one Archbaron wanted. Who kicked him down the trap door. Who almost killed Aurelius and Fellzir. The masked man feels irresistible urge to kick the corpse of the woman who's given them so much trouble. But her being fully clad in metal plate he'd just hurt his foot. Instead, he gently removes her helmet, and then kicks her hard in the face.

That felt good...

"So, what will we do with her? I'd like to drag the body back to Longacre, and nail it to a pole on the main square - a warning to anyone with rebellious thoughts." But that needs support from the stronger companions as well, Longacre is some distance away.

"Oh, and what to do with him and his girlfriend?" he says, pointing at Rhysak.

The Shrike flips up the steel faceplate of the deceased Angel Knight's helm and reveals a horror show of a ruined face beneath, even before he can plant the toe of his boot in the middle of it. Wearing a mask of her own blood, it is difficult to see the extent of the mutilation but absence of her nose, lips and most of one cheek is readily apparent. Her teeth gleam whitely out of the gore, a rictus grinning masque of red death.

Cimri whistles through her teeth at the macabre sight. "No wonder she

The Shrike:
You immediately see the truth of Cimri's words. The Denatsate of Egorian are the lowest of the low. Beggars who compete with their fellows by maiming themselves to disgusting degrees. It is a grotesque contest to be the most pathetic, and quite possibly the most despicable sort of solicitous scum of which you are aware.

"We don't need to carry back her body. Her head will do the trick. When the hardscrabble folk of Longacre see this, they'll turn flips to distance themselves from any association with the so called 'Angel Knight'. Cimri laughs uproariously like it's the best joke she's heard all year.

She takes some time to search while you discuss the logistics of transporting corpses and prisoners and finds another cache of goodies in a recess behind the idol of Iomedae.

But when you arrive back at the platform where you first climbed up, you make a bitter discovery. Jask has escaped, the ropes that bound him hanging loosely around the gutted corpse of the bard, Riley Kels. The free ends of the rope have quite clearly been cut.

Does this dryad have a name? Perhaps we can reach an accord. Aurelius asks their turncoat.

After all, nature spirits typically want to be left alone. We could offer a zone of X feet around his tree that is forbidden for law abiding citizens of Cheliax, if the dryad in turn pledges to not shelter non abiding citizens of cheliax within the tree or in the area around it.

Cimri considers before answering. "The woman seemed to be fleeing toward Fort Estanzo, where we killed that halfling archer and the manticore. Seems likely he would head that way too. Unless he went to meet up with my Aunt Rhona. He was deputy when she was sheriff." She shrugs. "We have to go that way to get back to Longacre anyway, we can check."

Argh crud my post got eaten

Lets get him the following draft:

Aurelius takes a piece of parchment

The following parties, namely the barony of Longacre, represented by deputee Aurelius Flavius, and the preserve of the tree, represented by the dryad Losoni, agree to the following terms

First, no law abiding citizen of Cheliax is to come within 300 feet of the tree, unless his or her presence is approved by both the preserve of the tree and the relevant chelish authorities

Second, the preserve of the tree will not offer shelter to non law abiding citizens of Cheliax, or to those who are currently within a state of open conflict with the lawful chelish authorities.

Other relevant precedents for dealing with autonomous polities within greater Cheliax apply.

Seems fair enough for me, we dont mess with it, it does not mess with us or shelters fugitives or enemies of Cheliax

bluff Aurelius: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21

sense motive or legalese dc 21:

the third clause implicitly states that Losoni recognizes himself as an autonomous polity within cheliax, and thus a part of cheliax, over which any chelish lawyer can rake him later if needed.

Now to the manner of the hag. Alluding to various proscriptions, the soul trade in cheliax is highly limited and tightly circumscribed. The odds of that hag having a license for it are exceedingly limited. Furthermore, chelish law does state that, as deputees we very much have rights to confiscate the properties of those guilty of very serious crimes, such as trading souls without warrants and licenses. And since that hag does not pay for a license, she will likely possess a fair degree of economic means we can seize. Which is why it makes individual economic sense for us.

Secondly, we win this war by providing security, safety and law to chelish citizens, while proving that the Iomedeans are hypocrites who are unable of offering protection. It is fundamentally a manner of who is better at providing organized violence to safeguard those under their care. By providing violence to those who are not under our care yet, we expand our reach, and directly cut into their follower base, and establish incentives to defect to our cause.

Thirdly, it is not as if the presence of a Hag offers much in terms of economical or security benefits. Hags also tend to be followers of Mestama, demonlord of hags, who is very much on the list of entities capable of answering prayers that is allowed within Cheliax.

Rhysak takes the document and has to go some distance away from the party into the branches of the tree before his call is answered and another voice is heard. The exchange does not sound particularly congenial, but Rhysak eventually returns with a signature and only one addendum.

Losoni reserves the right to defend the Titan Aspen from damage or trespass at his discretion.

With business attended to, you descend from the tree-fort and load your unconscious and deceased cargo onto the Ballista wagon and set back off toward Fort Estanzo and Longacre.

Shrike:

Now, getting rid of the hag can serve as another purpose too, various things could be blamed on her, after she is dead. Things such as disappearances, if there is someone in Longacre whose disappearance, sad death at the hands of a hag, and then vengeance by us, would be of use to us, but I currently cant think of any.

Siova is groggy and feels ill upon awakening thanks to Cimri's poison. Upon seeing the dead Angel Knight riding long in the Ballista wagon beside her, with her ruined face open to the air and flies already feeding on her dried blood, she vomits noisily over the side of the wagon.

Considering she was hostile toward your group when she fell unconscious, Aurelius's attempts to befriend her fall on deaf ears until Rhysak speaks with her softly. Then she begins to begrudgingly consider her options.

Fortunately the journey back is long and so there is time to spare to make efforts to improve her attitude. With much of the day spent in assaulting the Court of Spears, soon night falls and your party must make camp. Rhysak spends time interviewing Siova about her about her dreams and draws the conclusion that her dam is an Annis Hag, likely sheltering in a cave somewhere in the Whisperwood.

Siova is now Unfriendly and your party can rest and heal fully.

The next day is spent travelling and as you draw closer to Fort Estanzo, the smell of decomposing flesh taints the air. You approach carefully, Cimri and The Shrike scouting ahead hoping to catch the former deputies of Longacre off-guard. But though it seems they did stop here as the halfling's body is missing, they must not have stayed long. After some searching, you find a small pile of blackened bones that you suppose must have been a rushed attempt at a funeral pyre. The remains of the manticore are bloated and rank, making the place highly inhospitable.

Eager to distance yourselves from the smell, you get back on the road as soon as you are satisfied your quarry is not here.

Siova and Rhysak continue to discuss their situation. She is clearly upset over what she sees as a betrayal but their bond runs deep and she seems to understand his actions though she does not condone them. Her eyes linger on the body of the Angel Knight often and when she does sleep, her nightmares persist.

Feel free to make further diplomacy rolls to shift her attitude.

It is slow going with the loaded wagon in the woods and the body of the Angel Knight has begun to putrefy by the time you make it back to Longacre, making her a poor travelling companion. But the sight of her angelic faced helms stacked up around her body draws onlookers who cringe away from the sight of her ruined face. Shouts of dismay and denial follow your grim parade as you make your way toward the Archbaron's manor home, The Scarlet Crown. The townspeople gaze wearily at their fallen hero, their hopes broken and their defiance shattered.

Archbaron Fex and Razelago receive you in welcome. "So you found the Angel Knight at last! Amala informed me of your efforts at Fort Estanzo but I'm eager to hear the details of your grand victory." He invites you to sit and summons refreshments, including steaming towels to wipe away the road dust.

Siova is still bound and will be taken into custody by Fex's guards unless you make the checks to make her friendly.
