GM Falling Darkness |

Starting with stats the book suggests a standard 25 point buy (which is what I used) or an alternate method. First choose your primary stat and put an 18 in it, then choose a dump stat and put an 8 in it. For the other 4 stats roll 1d10+7 in order - without rerolls. The author argues that it gives a slightly higher power level than point buy and makes more interesting characters, I didn’t want my players saddled with that degree of randomness in what would be a long campaign.
Next choose a Race, the book discourages anything far outside the human norm as they would stick out and be a liability when you’re on a secret mission to destroy the kingdom.
There’s advice on all character Classes but we’ll cover the exceptions; anything goes but Paladin.
Instead players can be an Anti-Paladin, except LE and not CE. There are a few suggested changes to class abilities to accommodate the alignment shift.
Barbarians are allowed as long as they do not have the Chaotic alignment. Though rebellious by nature there may be good story reasons one would join up with followers of Asmodeus.
Cavaliers are advised to choose selfish orders such as the Order of the Cockatrice.
Evil Druids also need a good reason to team up with the worshippers of Asmodeus as they cannot be Lawful.
Gunslingers are also discouraged as the setting assumes no firearms and there is no gear intended for their use.
Ninja and Samurai need a good reason to be so far from home and may not have access to the weapons and armor that are preferred by their class.
For Feats nothing is changed. The book does suggest giving all PCs +2 Skill points per level to represent villains of their caliber being above average. (I used this option but should have limited it to non-INT classes).
No need to buy equipment since you’re all starting locked up in Castle Branderscar. Casters have lost their spellbooks, component pouches, familiars, foci, holy symbols and other assorted tools of the trade. They do though begin the game with all their memorized spells. (I appreciate the straight forwardness on this part, I think we've all had a GM let us buy all our equipment only to say, 'Surprise, you're in jail, erase all that s!@~'.)
Only four Alignment types are valid for this campaign; lawful neutral, lawful evil, neutral or neutral evil. It's suggested that the GM can prohibit anything except LE. Lastly the PCs pick two Traits (essentially half feats), one of which must be the heinous crime you committed.
A final word of advice to the players is that they will be recruited into an Asmodean conspiracy and should make a character that will say ‘yes’ to that offer. (Again being up front with the players

well hello there:
You are down a bard, and it looks like a "Professional" frontline buddy/buff bot would be a nice thing yes?
My cunning plan is a human Spell warrior from the Caer, fairly intelligent, quite lore affine, low wisdom, totally fine with "playing the savage".
Spell warrior is a Skald class that hands out weapon enchantment and rage powers rather then morale boni and rage powers, and more importantly does not shut down spell casting of allies.
Compared to a Bard they have a better action economy (there is a rage power called savage inution that makes them essentially autorage as soon as combat is started), start with martial weapon prof and medium weapon proficiency, but the total boni they hand out dont quite get as high.
Why is he with the Asmodeans? He had a bit of an "adventure" in Mithran lands, raided a monastery and did all manner of funny things to it.
Him sacrificing a senior monk to Eiseth, after finding out, via clever deduction, that this is whom the Monk would hate being sacrificed to the most got him some attention, both of the bad and the worse kind. Perhaps more so because he hasnt been a devil worshipper before.
But hej, Burning Mithrans at a stake? As a member of a nationality that gets burned at the stake by Mithrans a fair bit, the UNO reverse card of ironic vengeance is always tempting.
Alas, his loot laden ship was intercepted by the Mithran navy, while he did add to his murder count in his ships defense, he was eventually beaten unconcious by a certain Sir Balin.
Lady Thiadora A most shining example of feminine grace and style for whose pristinee presence we are all immeasureably thankfull for, impersonated an inquisitor and got him out, meaning she basically owns him until he repaid the favor by saving her rear end, which is rather impractical given that he is level 2.

Connor Hawkins |

Connor Hawkins was a butcher. No, an actual butcher who owned a shop in The Whitequarter of Ghastenhall. Business was always good and he catered to lord and lady to the yeoman and peasantry alike. But every now and then someone would enter his shop and order the "special cut". These exclusive customers would be escorted to the back room only to emerge a few minutes later. The next day the town criers would announce the mysterious disappearance of one the city's citizens. Despite lean times Hawkin's Meats never wanted for fresh cuts of meat.
One day a well dressed woman entered the shop and ordered the "Special Cut". once in the back room she explained that her husband, a well to do merchant, was having an affair with his assistant and that she would pay triple his usual fee if he would make them both disappear. Later, after closing the shop for the night, Connor donned his other working "clothes" a black leather apron and a pair of perfectly matched kukris, exotic knives with curved blades designed to cut through bone and sinew with relative ease.
Prowling through Ghastenhall's back alleys and silent streets Connor arrives at his target's townhouse shortly after midnight. After waiting for almost an hour he enters through the conveniently unlocked kitchen door. Once inside he is blinded by the flare of a hooded lantern suddenly being unveiled. Confronted by the city watch backed by several Knights of Alerion, Connor fought bravely yet futilely and was soon overwhelmed.
Dragged before the judge he was soon convicted of murder and attempted murder and sentenced to beheading at Brandescar Prison "May Mitra have mercy on your soul, for I surely do not!" were the last words of the judge has he dropped the gavel on his desk.

So I have the kernel of an idea for a background:
"Wow they were rough, what did you do?!" Groaning and unable to lift myself off the floor, for everything hurt, I muttered a reply, "I made a Paladin fall... Down the stairs, he broke his neck."
I'm thinking about going for the high treason trait (go big or go home!) but I need a suitable victim. Can I invent a House of Darius retainer or perhaps a second cousin for the victim?

Prisoner 1723 |

Yep, Jassie is physically female but half of her personalities are male.
We already have two healers in the party, but I expect that we may be going up against big numbers if things ever go wrong. With a third we could definitely have flexibility. A bit of an outlier for an evil party to have so much healing available.
I did notice that everybody in the party already has low-light or darkvision. It will affect our options for night missions if we do go for a pure strain human or another race with defective eyes. This can eventually be corrected, but it's a consideration.

Viktor Hämndson |

I am a sell sword. Meaning I do violence in return for rewards. If I do violence for free, I am reducing the value of my service. If I do violence for personal enjoyment, well, thats a bit of a guilty pleasure, but it strictly speaking also increases the violence supply and thus decreases what I can demand in return.
The Iraen speaks as if he has given this speech several times before.
Now, the Sun-Suckers He continues, using a rather mean yet accurate epithet for Mithra-worshippers
are a very regimented, orderly and organized foe. They inherently have a bias to expect their foes, meaning us, to also be regimented, orderly and well organized. There is merit in confounding their expectations by going crazy, crazy tactics do work, sometimes, crazy strategies do not. Even in a place as inherently insane as the Abyss, its quite rational entities like Lady Nocticula, or Lord Orcus who command the positions of supreme power, with the once mighty barely rational at all Qlippoth far beneath them.

So I've had the idea for a while of building a court bard who specialises in some of the more darkly amusing bard spells and masterworks. Beguiling gift, unnatural lust, dance of the kindled desires, that kind of thing. Perfect abilities for a very naughty girl whose goal in life is to make paladins fall. The RP potential for the satire ability is top notch and mechanically it means you can (mostly) keep spell DCs relevant.
I tried this in a Hell's Vengeance game but sadly that didn't get very far. I'm planning to rebuild for way of the wicked including a new background.
A question for the GM, how do you feel about the Antagonize feat? Post errata it's no longer stupidly ridiculous but it's still strong. No worries if that's something you'd rather not have in your game, I'd probably take spellsong instead.

Str: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Dex: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Con: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Int: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Well I was thinking about applying, but a 1pt buy outside of the focus and foible is never going to fly! Heck, I think even with F&F it's still only a 16 point buy!
At least I get the prize for the worst statblock, am-I-right?
@GM, is this pathetic enough to allow a reroll or not? If you'd prefer not to have the extra applicant I understand entirely!
[Also, Hey BD!]

For your consideration, hopefully I've got the build rules right. For now this is built with Spellsong.
I lay there bleeding on the cold stone floor unable to move because everything hurt, when a voice piped up from the next cell, ”Wow they seemed really upset, what the hell did you do?!” I groaned and forced myself up to a sitting position and through gritted teeth I replied, ”I made a Paladin of Mitra fall…” I coughed up some blood before adding, ”...down the stairs, he broke his neck! I thought he was a nobody, turns out he was Adam Markson, the king’s cousin.”
Of course I wasn’t about to share why, I’d done such a thing. I could scarcely believe it myself, it was amazing how far a girl would go for vengeance! The Amadeus family had once been wealthy and respected, a line of barristers going back generations. We had a terrible secret however, devil worship. I’ll probably never know how the Mitran Paladins found out, but my nightmares are haunted by the screams of my aunts and uncles as they smote them down in their righteous anger. Mother hid me under the bed as she and father waited for the inevitable. They refused to say where the last of the relics was hidden and so like the rest of the household they were put to the sword.
A single faithful retainer, Darius Smythe had escaped the slaughter and when the Mitran’s had gone, he took me away. That evening in the safe house I swore an oath, in Asmodeus’s name that I Clarissa Amadeus would have vengeance. Darius warned me to be patient, to bide my time. Years passed and I grew stronger and with the last of my family's hidden wealth I trained with the single minded goal to make Paladins Fall. Eventually I felt ready, of course I couldn’t start with a high templar, I needed a nobody.
I thought I’d found one too, I researched his habits, how he liked to pray at a particular church on the hill. It was a small matter to sneak in behind him and spread marbles upon the steep stairs that lead up to the private chapel. Then all I had to do was get him angry, I mocked his faith and invoke Asmodeus’s name in Mitra’s church and then I ran! He surged after me only to slip on the marbles before falling down the stairs in a heap. I’d have gotten away with it too if he’d been nobody. But he wasn’t just some schmuck, they turned the whole town upside down searching for me and now I’m royally f***ed!
Tall, slim with raven hair, Clarissa looks stunning and she knows it, a real femme fatale. She’s utterly ruthless and enjoys mocking her enemies, subtly undermining them before moving in for the kill where she tries to dominate them.
She’s no fan of the king but her real beef is with the church of Mitra which she hates with an unhealthy passion.

I’ve not given her any gear since it sounds like we don’t start with any. I hope she can find a longspear and a portable alchemy lab.
