If we do it as Wild Empathy as your Initiative (vs Animals) then you could possibly use Command an Animal on your actual turn (attitude depending), or you can attempt to Wild Empathy (as 1 Action) to increase Attitude to indifferent so then you can Command an Animal.

There are Diplomacy Feats to effect multiple targets too.

Does this make sense? I actually think it can work.

It does make sense. The issue I'm finding is that your animal foes in combat would start off as 'hostile' more often than not, so this is kind of moot due to the attitude caveat?

Thanks for taking care of the DM!

@Ness: I'm thinking that even if we can't diplomacy animals as soon as we see them (yet), we can still occasionally conspire to capture them and then pet/bribe them until they're on our side.

@Ness did you want to post a Turn, or ready for me to wrap up combat, so you can Wild Empathy?

Ness will wait for combat wrap up and then see what she can do to make Ol’ Twitchy a little friendlier via wild empathy.

Sorry, I just got back home from my bday dinner and it’s late.

Male Teifling Welcome players! Roll20 Map

No worries. I just didn't want to move forward until you were ready.

Enjoy your night. I have all day to post...lol.

Taming wild animals is a bit of a rabbit hole (ha) in 2e, isn't it?

Glad Hand would be funny for petting your way into an instant opening for Wild Empathy that would then lead into Tame Animal. Three feats, though. On the other hand, I'd be pretty pumped if I could tame a wild animal in an hour or two.

Male Teifling Welcome players! Roll20 Map

Glad-Hand is the Feat she should take and Tame Animals. That would allow Encounter mode Wild Empathy for sure and what to do with them.
I think once appropriated she will be Queen of Animal encounters.

I almost forgot!

Treat Wounds outside of Combat is great if you wanted to save spells.

Natural Medicine allows you to use any Actions/Activities that are in Medicine skill.

If anyone gets injured as we continue searching/exploring, then she’ll treat wounds then. Thanks, GM.

Also, your Goodberry Focus spell may be used every 10 minutes outside of Combat.

You have listed 1 Heal and 1 Shillelagh as your 1st level prepared spells?

@1st only have 2 1st so let's say you use either alternative for either casting?

Apologize for not mentioning it last night. I forgot to look at your spells...lol.

Oops. I’ve played other caster types with known spells for too long. Sigh. I seem to be the only one stuffing up consistently in this game.

I’ll retcon some form of healing in my morning, when I can figure it all out properly. I just need some rest now. Good night.

You are doing great! I play prepared mostly so Uhe sometimes wants to switch out spells every day...lol.

This is a learning module. Let's learn together.

Good night.

Leo needs to Refocus also after using any Focus Spell during Combat.

I think I screwed up in that combat. I had Leo cast his 'focus spell' (hex) Evil Eye twice, first at the beginning and then at the end. Because of 'Cackle' he has two points for Focus Spells, but can he cast it twice in one combat, and if he can, can he refocus both points?

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Teifling Welcome players! Roll20 Map

I may have misspoken. Evil Eye is a Hex Cantrip. It does not cost you a Focus Point.
Cackle is a 1st level Hex Focus Spell. Using that does cost 1 Focus Point.

When you Refocus you regain only 1 Focus Point back.

There will be Feats that allow for multiple back in a Refocus period.

DG, in regard to the familiar abilities, is it possible to customise one:

I was thinking of customising 'Plant Form'.

---> Your plant familiar can change shape as a single action, transforming into a Tiny plant of a type roughly similar to the familiar's nature. This otherwise uses the effects of tree shape. You must have a familiar with the plant trait, such as a leshy, to select this ability.

Can I use this ability to have Verdi 'grow' ripe blueberries that can be plucked and used by Ness for her goodberry order spell? It can be hard to source fresh/ripe blueberries in every environ, so it would be a nice touch for the leshy to provide the berries when she has the above familiar ability for the day.

Tann is ready with a quip at any moment and is fun. I'm thinking that when it comes to the business of nature - flora or fauna - Ness is a pretty dutiful guardian and takes her role rather seriously. Even for someone the general locals (including her brother and cousins) think is "kooky", "oddball-ish" or bit of a "flower child", she isn't flaky nor traditionally funny/absurd. She has her own quirky/offbeat wit/humour which shows up now and again in for eg her mannerisms and talking to plants and animals like they completely understand her. That's how I'm playing her.

I'm saying this because I always get a chuckle out of Tann's posts/characterisation and want others to know how Ness is in comparison. The dward druidess isn't always funny nor kooky. ;)

@Ness I am thinking that Verdi can produce enough berries for each casting that you can do of Goodberry. So, once you can Heightened it for more, she can provide enough.

so can Leo roll Athletics three times to get out of the web? I realize the third time would mean he can't do dancing lights.

Male Teifling Welcome players! Roll20 Map

You may attempt Escape more than once. Each attempt does count against you Multiple Attack Penalty (MAP)

So, your 2nd attempt would take a -5(-4) penalty and a 3rd would take -10(-8) penalty.

Leo wrote:

Tann, you did great. However, the dancing lights winked out when Leo was trying to get out of the webbing (making three acro rolls), so the chamber is in complete darkness (being we're down deeper than the basement level). Ness can see because she has darkvision, but the rest of you?

Is there a penalty to Tann for trying to hit something in the dark? Or will she have to roll the dice to see if she succeeds like in 1e?

Dorian 'Grey' wrote:
Patches of glowing blue fungus cling to the ceiling and provide dim light. You can just barely make out vast strands of webbing across the floor and walls of this cavern, stretching between stalactites like shimmering curtains.

There is some light, I thought DG had commented about it in one of our discussions, but I can't find it.

Female Dwarf (Strong-Blooded) Druid (of the Leaf Order) 1| HP 20/20; AC 15/17 with raised shield| F:+5 , R:+4, W+9| Perception +6; Darkvision| Speed: 20 f|1 berry remaining, 2/2 Focus Pts

There was some light on the basement floor but we climbed down to a deeper level. So, the blue light from the fungi would be eerie and shadowy at best. Shrugs.

swash | .5lf lev. 3| 10/41 | ac 20 | per 7 | f 8 r 11 w 7| hero points 3

I forgot about light! As a .5lf, Tan has low-light vision, at least?

Female Dwarf (Strong-Blooded) Druid (of the Leaf Order) 1| HP 20/20; AC 15/17 with raised shield| F:+5 , R:+4, W+9| Perception +6; Darkvision| Speed: 20 f|1 berry remaining, 2/2 Focus Pts

Perhaps the blue glowing fungus on the ceiling is enough dim light but how high is the ceiling? Most of the party could barely see the webbing with the dancing lights, so without the webbing would certainly be hard to see in the murky darkness and shadows. I don't mean to debate the issue, but it'll be good to know what the situation is without Leo's dancing lights and what that means for those acting in more darkness than not.

Also, Leo, in his current human form, has human vision, so dim light is not going to help him trying to extricate himself from the webbing in the dark.

Right, leo has no extra vision. Don't know what the 'difficulty' in extricating himself will be. But panicking seemed like the right thing to do.

swash | .5lf lev. 3| 10/41 | ac 20 | per 7 | f 8 r 11 w 7| hero points 3

Dorian's last post says Dim Light and links to the rules, so I think the .5elves should be alright.

I shouldn't have left my torch upstairs... but I think I have a spare, so.

And we'll save you, Leo!

Male Teifling Welcome players! Roll20 Map

Apologize if it wasn't clearly stated, but Tannakin is correct. Only Leo cannot see at the moment.

Spooky and scary!

And everyone is doing extremely well on post formatting and Actions! Nicely done!

EDIT: Btw, Ness, that was a brilliant move causing it to "waste" an Action to Escape and causing its MAP to increase! Just unfortunate it roll a nat 20 on last attack.

DG, since the group rested for an hour while Leo healed, it would give Ness time to refocus a second time and get both her focus points back. :)

so when were moving like this, does Leo get a perception check or does he just get to move the dancing lights?

Male Teifling Welcome players! Roll20 Map

@Ness of course!

@Leo when I post a Perception DC spoiler go for it. The Exploration mode Search will be Secret checks that I will do as warranted.
