Sorry! I've been distracted! I can keep going but setting up my other game will be my main focus for a while, so I might be... distracted.

Speaking of: Leo do you have any room for another game with us? These two goons are already recruited from the last time I GM'd a game.

Would it happen to be the "GM Parrot's Sea Change" Game?

I'm at the fewest games I've been at in years. So officially I have room. I guess the question would be more about what style of game you're looking for, and if the type of character I'd play would step on any toes. I prefer full BAB or rogue, I've been considering playing a magus.

I've read the description I realize you said

GM Parrot wrote:

But what sort of posting rate is this group used to? Like most of your players I prefer 1e, I also saw
GM Parrot wrote:

If we do 1e, then races should be around 10 RP or below. Nothing OP please, but flavor is welcome.

Will think about class restrictions. Probably not doing a lot of gunpowder in this setting?

which answers a lot of questions.

Color me interested. How many folks do you have? I saw a rat cleric and a dwarf rogue, and were starting at a floating magical university. Deciding PF1 or PF2 will certainly change the scope for me.

Should I jump in the discussion with any questions?

You guys know that I am an easy DM.

How about we split the difference and do both @2nd with Free Archetype?

Rewrite your characters Crunch or start a new character either at 2nd with Free Archetype.

Let's try to stay away from Rare unless you twist my arm....

Have fun!

Post here for now.

So, I'm not sold on a new character yet. But quite frankly if I'm going to really learn PF2 I need the pace to pick up. We've been moving so slow that I forget everything I thought I learned.

DG what sort of pace are we looking for? I'll end up asking as many questions in discussion or discord as I will post, actually probably more.

Parrot are you going to keep the swashbuckler or go something different.

If we're going to have a pace quick enough to learn, I'll keep Leo and Ambrose (why are we changing from third level?)

If we're going to move at a leisurely pace, I'll either play a basic human fighter or rogue depending on what Parrot's doing.

I'm dragging my feet on the 1e-2e decision because I have strong player preferences on both sides. We have an old friend who might join but hasn't posted in the game yet who also mentioned a 1e preference, so I wanted to talk with him too.

It's a basic decision that must be made! But it's been surprisingly difficult. I will likely decide tomorrow during a long bike ride.

As for posting rate, most of these folks are pretty reliable (you know Dust and Dorian). Some wax and wane, but are old pals so I will bot and forgive. I try not to let my game lag and I'll be there every day I'm around a keyboard, which is most days, seeing as I work on my computer.

We have Dust playing a witch in either edition. Dorian mentioned rogue for 2e. Full BAB, rogue, or magus would all be very welcome. I think you mentioned once that you have a backlog of characters to play (I do too) and I'd be happy to find a niche for one of those if the ruleset and world suits them.

As for the style of game, it's going to be a mix of acute adventuring such as dungeon crawls, sea combat, the expected--but I also want to develop some mechanics that allow time to pass in game so players can pursue long-term goals. Those times might not take long IRL. Say someone with ranks in Shipwright wants to build the island a sloop. Even with a workcrew, that might take months, so they will devote their "working hours" to sloopcraft until something major happens. Pirates attack with the sloop half-finished. Our hero drops tools and dons armor at the first sign of trouble, leads a heroic defense, counter-boards the pirates, then cannibalizes their mostly-shoddy vessel for useful parts, accelerating sloop construction by a month. Soon, they are finished, and then they convince the rest of the party, which has been spell-learning, guard-training, and basket-weaving since the pirate fight, that it's finally time to investigate that light on the high and forbidding mountain you've seen from a distance. The sloop puts out to sea with our heroes and a squad of the trained-up guardsmen and plenty of baskets full of snacks.

In real-time, the combat probably took a month and the downtime took three or four days on either side. That's the hope, at least.

So, very sandbox, with the world still under construction in my head, able to respond to cool ideas from the players.

Feel free to hop in the discussion!

Because it hurts more, cousin!

Abomination Vaults is a 1st level AP. It goes to 10th. Starting at 2nd (with Free Archetype) allows for your DM not to have to alter Combats and such.

I think the Free Archetype makes up for going down a level for the 1st Book, Chapter or whatever it ends up being.

Pace. I am on every day. Multiple times per day. If it's just a Phone post then easy peasy. Map times I have to get on stupid laptop, so...I will endeavor to do better.

I am excited to DM you 3 so there!

LOL, ok 2nd level with a 'free archetype' I'll need to look at that, and sort out what scrolls he should purchase for his spell list.

Unless Parrot is changing up characters as well, then I may switch. But fighter cleric arcane caster feels well balanced.

So with archetypes, could one of us pick up rogue skills to deal with traps and locks? I would be willing to do that if it would help. Might also make Leo feel a little more useful, instead of sitting back on his ass dog.

NG Human Cleric of Iomedae 3 | HP 39/41 | AC 18 (20 w/ shield) | F+9/R+6/W+10 | Perc +8 | DC 18 | HP 1/3 |

Holy crap I was looking at Oracle and what a horribly complicated class!

If I keep Julril I'll probably take a fighter archetype to make him more combat viable as I imagined he would be.

But if everyone else is making a new PC I will too.

A fighter archetype makes sense, of course it makes sense to let Tann play rogue since his dex is higher, but I'm bored sitting in the back, so I called it :)

I guess it's up to Parrot, if he wants to keep Tann, I'm good with trying to play Leo better (I'll just need a little help with spells and a reminder he has a spell other than telekinetic stick)

If we all want to revamp, I'm going with something more familiar like ranger or fighter.

Ok, I think I've got Leo close to second level with a 'free archetype' back in August you assigned 75 gp for purchasing items. Was that for third level? I didn't spend any of it, I was planning on purchasing scrolls for Ambrose to eat and never got around to it. Does he still get to spend the 75 or should it be less for second level?

Also, rogues and the ability to wear light armor, will light armor infringe on Leo casting spells?

Male Teifling Welcome players! Roll20 Map

You guys are the best!

@Julril look at the Remastered war priest. I made a goblin war priest for Age of Ashes and it is what you are looking for, I think. Save your Free Archetype for something fun...lol.

I have an Oracle (Battle) and yes it is complicated. Same with Investigator, Magus, Kineticist, Psychic.....

@Leo each of you may repurchase everything from 1st, so 10gp plus your choice of another 30gp or 20gp and one level 1 item.

Wealth chart

Armor does not interfere with casting unless not Proficient. Taking the Rogue Dedication opens up cool trapper feats. My Kobold Cleric (Cloistered) is Rogue Dedication...lol.

I can handle any role--if you want to get back into your wheelhouse, Leo, please do!

hmmmm. I like Leo and Ambrose a lot, and I think picking up rogue skills will give him something to do other than hide in the back. I just don't want anyone annoyed with all the questions. looking at you DG :)

I really don't play a lot of casters. But I've got attached to leo, it's a bit of a love hate relationship. So if you're sticking with Tannakin and Julril covers some of the divine spells, I'll do my best to cover arcane and a little lock picking.

Now I just need to figure out what armor and which scrolls to purchase for Ambrose to eat.

Great. Maybe I'll try to harden Tan so she can take a few more punches.

It is official!

I will be receiving the Roll20 materials for Abomination Vaults tomorrow!

There is absolutely zero hurry. Everyone have fun. Take your time creating your characters.

I will need to read a bit anyway...lol

Leo looks good!

So I tried to duplicate Leo's page to Pathbuilder 2e's page but several things didn't duplicate, like his Patron (which I have as Cursed) and adding info about Ambrose and what sort of spells he knows.

I like the idea of just punching Leo in to the page, but I'm not sure it will work. I have similar questions about my potential ranger, like I couldn't find "power attack" on the feat list. Am I missing something?

In 2e, Power Attack is a fighter feat. Fighters get a lot of semi-exclusive fun stuff in 2e, some of which are core things from 1e (Attack of Opportunity is a fighter feat now!).

With the three-action economy of 2e, Power Attack isn't as much of an auto-include as it is in 1e. It's nice, but you could also strike twice with the same two actions (albeit with a multi-attack penalty).

Cool, that would explain why it didn't show up on the list, obviously I didn't go and look it up or I would have seen it under 'fighter' feats.

Ok another question, related but not related, I was reading through the 'recruitment thread' and there was a recruitment for a PF2 game, and out of curiosity I looked at it. The GM was like A word of warning this is a RAW game. So out of curiosity I went to see what folks left and why.

As I read through the information something else popped out at me. Actually several did, but this is the one I'm willing to ask about. The GM said Remember no prepatory actions... so no carrying around loaded weapons or melee weapons. He explains that if the characters are using the 'defend' action then they can have a weapon in hand, but not a shield readied. My question, is that really a thing? Or can we be walking around doing 'other actions' (I assume he's referring to our 'mode') like exploration with a weapon in hand.

Edit: Maybe I should just go fighter, it seems like it might be easier...

Male Teifling Welcome players! Roll20 Map

There is some thought that since there are only 3 Modes of Game Play (Encounter, Exploration, Downtime) and that there is no Exploration mode Carry Weapons, along with the Rangers Quick Draw Feat being rendered obsolete, that one must burn an Action in Combat to Draw Weapon(s).

I have done some rudimentary research into this idea, but I have yet seen anything to actually support it.

Ranger!

This is @2nd? Made a few changes, I see. Patrons Puppet? Hmm....Free Action Command! Nice!

Well played, Leo! I like Nudge Fate too.

Leo "Busy-Fingers" is looking good!

I didn't necessarily want patons puppet or nudge fate, I just couldn't find what I had listed when we build Leo.

Ranger!

This became a discussion in the 2e game I'm running. It makes no sense to me and there's no explicit rule about it.

In other news, still playing with either Fighter or Bastion archetype for Julril.

Maybe the benefit for the ranger quick draw feat is that a switch hitter may have both range and melee weapons sheathed and select which weapon he wants to attack with. Since it's one of several different 'equal' feats available at second level.

If you couldn't 'carry a readied weapon' every guide book I've read would say 'take two levels in gunslinger ranger or rogue so you have a readied weapon...'

Also, it doesn't address carrying two handed weapons that have no 'scabbard.' Dude has a spear in both hands, "nope you have to draw the weapon to use it" Yeah, i just don't see it.

There were a lot of weapons that didn't even have a scabbard...

Not to Panic (because as previously stated Don't Panic is real) but our Abomination Vaults Campaign will be starting a bit later than thought.

My source caught COVID so we can't go visit him today to get it...

Perhaps next weekend.

that gives us a week to figure out what scrolls Leo needs to purchase and then how to use those spells :)

Can I keep my smoking longsword and wand?

Male Teifling Welcome players! Roll20 Map

Yes and yes.

I was considering presenting Items of equal level to everyone plus starting gold, so yes.

I will find thematically useful items for the others...

cool, how about a copy of "How to cast spells for dummies" for Leo?

Leo presents!

Wand of Ill Omen(1)

Key making Tools

Tannakin presents!
Assuming you are still Sorcerer (Draconic) as Free Archetype?
Wand of Jump

Glasses of Sociability

Hmmm ....not for nothing but that's 2 Free Item 3s....I am such a sucka...lol.

No worries. Not game breaking but each helps each of you.

Wand Rules

I might keep sorcerer but now as a free archetype and add something like Duelist's Parry in the feat slot it opens up because it's likely better than Shield for a character who always uses reactions to Aid, but I'm not 100% sure yet.

I'm also tempted to put some of what I've learned about the magus or investigator into play, but hey.

Dorian 'Grey' wrote:

Sweet! you know he's going to be carrying the wand, like it's a lance, right :)

Still need to work on the scroll list, I'll do that as soon as I get Onello's back story done.

I am starting a new job on Monday. It has been too long out of a proper kitchen, so I am jumping back into one!

I haven't done this type of true culinary gig since my Ankles incident so a bit wary and excited at the same time.

All that said, my DMing will need be put on indefinite hold.

We do have Parrot's and Djdust games to prepare for . That should keep us quite occupied.

Now, I just need to erase the Recruitment threads....

Thanks for the Otari run! I truly enjoyed this Table!

I will delete this Thread by the weekend.
