I recommend communicating which 3 Skills your characters will be focusing on.
There are ways to advance more with feats, class abilities and such.
My character will be focusing on these three main skills (in order): Nature, Medicine and Survival and will be going into Legendary.
In PF1e, a Dwarf reaches adulthood at 40 and a Dwarf druid falls under the age category 'Trained' (47-82 years of age). In PF2e, they reach adulthood at 25, so I had Nyswyn at that age. Should I be making her older? Or is her age okay? Thanks!

@Nyswyn isn't having both Nature and Medicine increasing redundant? Unless you want Medicine higher for other purpose than Treat Wounds and such?
Age is fine. I am figuring with this being everyone's characters initial quest, then most likely on the younger side.
EDIT: also have you noticed this? Herbalist dedication
It would be a bit of an advanced move if you really wanted to maximize your healing capabilities. Not saying you were planning to go the healer route...

Nyswyn Greenseyn |

Nature deals with the Natural world (flora, fauna, environment) which would be an imperative for a Druid and Medicine deals with patching up wounds and helping people recover from diseases and poisons (as a healer-type). I'm not sure why it would be redundant. It's like a rogue taking Deception and Thievery, for example. If I'm missing something about how main skills work in 2e, then you might need to clarify it for me, please. If I do need to change these skills, then perhaps I'll replace Medicine with Diplomacy as my girl's Wild Empathy plays into it. Shrugs. As to her growth/route, I'm not sure what she'll move into as I'm more an organic player and not one that has everything planned out from creation.
I like the look of Herbalist Dedication and will make a note of it. Thanks!

Dorian 'Grey' |

Natural Medicine would replace the need to use Medicine skill for any of its applications.
That is why redundant...lol.
I absolutely love the flavor!

Okay, I see what you're saying. She'd certainly lean toward Nature. Alright then. Nature, Diplomacy (Wild Empathy included) and Survival. (Although her CHA 12 isn't the best). Will that work?

Remember Abilities increase by +2 (4) at 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th. Also, your numbers rise every level since everything is level+ Proficiency bonus. So, Cha 12 is a fine starting point for Diplomacy.

Nyswyn Greenseyn |

Okay. I have finished the fluff and it's in three spoilers on the profile page of this alias. Dorian, if it needs more depth/detail, please let me know and I'll edit the fluff. Thanks!
Hope everyone's having a good weekend. :)

Good morning!
I am excited to read my first backstory!
I am both overjoyed and excited having read it! I had this song pop into my head so I listened to it as I was reading...lol.
Reading about Verdi reminded of it.
Well done!
Who's next?

Dorian 'Grey' |

@Parrot ok. I just read up on One for All. Wow combining it with Cooperative Nature is fantastic!
Order of Operations:
1 Action (◆)= 1 Action One for All (Aid Action)
Leaving 2 Actions (◆◆ ) left for fun shenanigans.
Then on Rogue's turn you use (↺) Reaction to Aid DC 20.
So, with the +4 from Cooperative Nature Diplomacy +9 (trained+Cha 14).
So 50/50 @1st but gets easier as you level.
Your Rogue's trick is also 50/50 @1st so on par.
Nice synergy!
Bon Mot will be extremely useful too. It will affect Initiative (if use Perception for it and most do) and Will for your Wizard and druid spells.
Really 2 solid 1 Action abilities!
1/2 elf gets you there as I stated above.

Tannakin Skinker |

@Dorian: I think my character is finished now! Second draft, at least!
@Airi, can part of our backstory be that we know each other? I feel like we might be the only half-elves of our age in Otari, so it would make some sense. Especially since my kind and loving parents would keep half an eye on a half-elf orphan in the same small town.

Tannakin Skinker |

Great, thanks! I think it'll be fun. I'll post mine soon.

Dorian 'Grey' |

I am looking forward to reading them!
@Parrot I will look him over later today. At first glance something about your skills and a few numbers seem off?
Lotsa information in those spoilers....
@Watanabe were you thinking of just leveling him down or starting him
from scratch?
EDIT: @Parrot it looks like you owe yourself another +2 boost from D.?
That would fix Fort number.

Tannakin Skinker |

I think this is how my stats work (I used Pathbuilder):
Ancestry Boost: CHA DEX
12 10 10 10 10 12
Background Boost: CHA DEX
14 10 10 10 10 14
Class boost: DEX
16 10 10 10 10 14
Four boosts:
18 12 12 10 10 16
Look ok?

Dorian 'Grey' |

Perfect! I figured it went to Con.
Deception is untrained so only +3
Looking good! I am excited to see your swashbuckler ing!
EDIT: Con 12? And just so I know untrained in Stealth and Thievery?
Am I a pain in yer arse yet (Bedlam doesn't count)?

Tannakin Skinker |

Deception fixed! Ready to buckle my swash.

Dorian 'Grey' |

We have our 1/2 elf Swashbuckler and dwarven druid looking good!
I have it on good authority the Airi will be worked on today.
Anybody know how to summon a grumpy wizard....

Dorian 'Grey' |

By the way, your DM still needs to sit (ha!) his arse down and learn the google slides.
So we are probably (strange?) aeons away from actually starting....most of you are aware of my propensity to exaggerate....may not in this particular case...hehe.
I will be ready whenever you folks say...what the fiddlesticks is taking so long!
@Parrot I feel like buckle my swash may not mean the same up dere in da mountains...lol.

Nyswyn Greenseyn |

I noticed I picked up a level 9 ancestry feat by mistake. Oops.
I like the following three at first level, but not sure which I should pick (I'm open to input):
Clan's Edge (which I've tentatively selected at the moment), Dwarven Lore or Rock Runner

Dorian 'Grey' |

I feel like you already know that I will jump willingly at such bait...lol.
I like this for once you get to 4th (although would still get use before that).

Tannakin Skinker |

Vengeful Hatred: Unsustainable Eco-harmful Lumberjacks.

Nyswyn Greenseyn |

So, you're hinting that when we reach level 4, I'll make particular use of Vengeful Hatred ancestry trait I've chosen at first? lol

Nyswyn Greenseyn |

@Tannakin: Ha. Nice. Although for some reason I can't see her drawing a weapon against/attacking/fighting the big bad lumberjacks in town. Wouldn't that make the town really dislike her since it's their main source of livelihood (some/most think she's a loon already). ;)

Nyswyn Greenseyn |

@Airi: Nys would have spent some time in the Dawnflower library (once a week when she's back in the town proper) - reading books about the flora and fauna of the region - plant husbandry and how to grow certain trees/plants - researching poisonous plants etc. Perhaps she is acquainted with Airi? Also, as a temple to Sarenrae, Nys has helped out the clerics with healing of locals/lumberjacks...

Sansaárë |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

@Nyswyn: Yes. I would see you in the library and ask you about the wilderness. Because Airi spent most of her time in the Library and the Garrison. She dreams of adventure.

Nyswyn Greenseyn |

@Airi: Nice. I'll include that in her backstory in a moment. Maybe Airi admires the tiny leaf leshy that sits on Nys' shoulder as she reads?
Alright. After considering things, I think it best to go with the ancestry feat Rock Runner on 1st level because it goes with the flavour and intention/essence of Nyswyn.
Ages of characters (& alignments):
Tannakin, 21, NG
Sansaárë, 18, NG
Nyswyn, 25, LN
And, we have an all female party at present!

Tannakin Skinker |

Farewell, Watanabe.
As for alignment... I feel like I should change mine to CG for the trifecta, but I secretly believe that NG is more C than CG. CG has to be chaotic, but NG is only sometimes chaotic... isn't that more chaotic? Just kidding! But I guess one could argue that CG can be so chaotic as to be occasionally L.
Better stick with NG.

I hope Watanabe reconsiders and re-joins us. The many posts were only indicative of our chatter as we put together our characters. When we're in game, there may not be as many each day.
@Tannakin, since you are a local of Otari and also childhood friend of Airi, would you have some kind of connection/interaction with Nyswyn? The dwarf's not that much older than you and you may know of her and/or her clansmen in town? As Tannakin has a wild streak, perhaps she'll appreciate that Nyswyn does her own thing and doesn't concern herself with the opinions/gossip of others...

Dorian 'Grey' |

I must admit that with my current situation that I find myself with lots of dead time in my daily day.
I apologize if it has caused any difficulty to others.
I actually am happy to see this much communication amongst you players. My goal is simple: Teach and game with those that I have been extremely fortunate to have has the pleasure.
I invited those with whom I enjoy here on the boards. I understand it is a different system, even may be a bit frustrating in that difference. I appreciate everyone's willingness to try.
As a player, I find that most of my games crawl. A few are daily. Another few 2-3 posts a week. The pace of this game will slow down (as all do) once Gameplay begins.
I am enjoying all the creation talk; encourage it in fact. I only want this group of friends to have a fun game, regardless of pace.
Watanabe is welcomed (preferred!) to reconsider.
Thank you everyone for this opportunity to teach and travel along with you on this adventure!

Yes about the leaf familiar. Airi saw it on your shoulder and came over to you to ask about it. She's cute!

Tannakin Skinker |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Yeah! There's zero chance that Tannakin would never run away to the woods. It's probably more like a quarterly thing.
Maybe once when we were kids, Nyswyn stumbled on one or two cold, hungry, sleepy .5lves lost in the woods with the moon rising...
The difference between 25 and 21/18 is pretty significant for adults, but it's a huge deal for kids--I'm imagining an 18 year old dwarf rescuing a 14 year old (and a 12 year old, if Tannakin has managed to drag Airi along!) by taking her/us to your cave for a hot cup of wildcrafted herbal tea and a pallet on the floor and a guided nature-walk home in the morning... and how we'd always love you after that!

I wanted to research a Goblin who is addicted to coffee. Thinking Oracle...lol.

Nyswyn Greenseyn |

I like the idea of us being best friends fir the last 7 yrs after Airi pushed you out of the fort.
@Nys: What do you think?
I like it! :)
Nys would certainly have tried to patch up Tannakin's scraps/cuts with herbs/plants/moss etc.

Oh, that sounds right up Nys' alley. I'm certainly good with that connection between the three. :)
This is what I posted on Nys' profile in a separate spoiler:
Three Girls and a Tree Fort:
Seven years ago, Airi and Tannakin had built a tree fort just outside of the town proper. One day Airi saw Nys wandering at the edge of the forest and invited her to join them, knowing the 18 year old dwarf loved the forest and anything of nature (and spent her time living in, and learning from, the forest). Not long after Nys' arrival, Tannakin's wild wit had somehow provoked the younger half-elf Airi and the girl shoved and accidentally pushed Tannakin over the edge of the tree fort. Tannakin landed on the ground with some minor albeit painful and bleeding wounds (thankfully no broken bones - just a minor sprain). Airi and Nys came down to aid Tannakin (Airi apologetic and Nys searching about for herbal aid in the form of leaves/wild herbs, moss and sticks and soft bark to dress the wound and strap the ankle until the girls could get back into town. This moment bonded the trio, and Airi, Tannakin and Nyswyn became the best of friends. Airi was delighted by Nys' companion, Verdi, lavishing the leaf leshy with much attention.

...accidentally pushed Tannakin over the edge...
"accidentally" heheh. This is a dynamic that I hope will become canon.
This is the most wholesome party-start I've ever had.
........
When the trio get back to town, the grateful (and limping) Tannakin insists that they all head straight to the Skinker household, where the almost-but-not-quite-anxious-yet Skinker parents are glad to see their prodigal progeny, and she's even mostly intact this time!
Eliel and Gregg Skinker thank Ness sincerely for the return of their lil' swashbuckler and repay her by improvising a mini-feast of the best dwarven food that Gregg can manage on a moment's notice. It comes out pretty good because he's quite a cook, he has dealings with dwarves, and he runs a little market stall with easy access to the best produce stands. Eliel, his still-very-young elf wife, beams at her husband's cleverness with knife and spice.
Gregg banters with Ness as he cooks, "Dwarven cuisine is underrated, isn't it? But cave carrots give such a nice flavor to a stock! Normally, Tannakin dices the veggies... she's good with a blade, ya know? But we'll give her the night off. I learned this recipe from one of my dwarf friends, a guy who makes knives and knicknacks over at Blades n' Glades. He made this knife, and it's a beauty--the value's in the tempering of the steel and the thought put into the balance. A fine chef's blade, this! And yet, his boss is awful hard on him. I've seen you in the market sometimes, miss, so if you ever need the friends and family price on general goods, stop by the Skinker stall, won't ya?"
At dinner, the .5lves are told to "Stay out of trouble for a minute, will ya?" and all the younger Skinker siblings laugh, knowing that Tannakin is incapable of following the simple order.
Tannakin responds by saying that at least she and Airi have a tree fort AND a friend with a cave in the forest that they can visit any time.
Verdi is pretty green, but the younger Skinkers are even greener for a moment... with envy.
.........
If Watanabe doesn't come back, I just want to send a pre-welcome to whoever becomes our fourth! Let's become old friends quickly, too!

Dorian 'Grey' |

Wowsers! This is fantastic! I will fill really (kinda?) badly when you get TPKed....
So, any who, ignore that last bit. I was blinking with my left eye.
Please keep going. We will be learning who our 4th will be this week.
I may need to rename this Campaign "Three Girls and a Tree Fort:"

After dinner, we went outside and walked into the forest. As we were going into the forest, the sun started to set.

The youngest sister laughs at her siblings
It could happen! We would get a real adventure!

The leaf leshy didn't come into the picture until Ness reached adulthood (25). I think I confused the situation with the part about Airi spoiling Verdi with attention (that happened years later). Ha.
======
Sitting down at the table with the Skinker family and Airi, Ness felt a little awkward. She'd gotten rather used to sitting on the cavern floor to eat her simple meals (except for the one day a week she returned to her family home). The people here were sweet and rowdy - it was certainly interesting taking a meal with a human, elf and half-elves. They liked to chatter. Her dwarven clan liked to chew, grunt and make other sounds rather than carry on a conversation.
"Dwarven cuisine is underrated, isn't it? But cave carrots give such a nice flavor to a stock!"
Ness nodded as she watched the man prepare the meal. "Cave carrots and wild winter root go well in a stew. Sometimes, I like to pour honey over cave carrots and roast them over the fire. Sweet, smoky and full of nutrients." She stopped talking and continued to gaze at the pot. Ness didn't want them thinking she was a loon like some others did in town.
"I learned this recipe from one of my dwarf friends, a guy who makes knives and knicknacks over at Blades n' Glades. He made this knife, and it's a beauty--the value's in the tempering of the steel and the thought put into the balance. A fine chef's blade, this"[/b]
Ness was a little surprised as Gregg mentioned her brother. He shared our old granny's recipe with the human? Nokham must admire him. "That'll be my elder brother, Nokham. He's one of the finest smiths in town and knows it - he's not shy about it. My cousins are fine smiths, too - making shields and weapons over axes and knives."
"I've seen you in the market sometimes, miss, so if you ever need the friends and family price on general goods, stop by the Skinker stall, won't ya?"
"I come into town once a week for provisions. I'll stop by, soon," not wishing to offend the man upon his kindly offer.
Tannakin responds by saying that at least she and Airi have a tree fort AND a friend with a cave in the forest that they can visit any time.
"It's a strong and sturdy tree. It'll hold the weight of the three of us. Just have to be mindful of the edge," Ness grinned a little, recollecting the sight of the younger Airi driving Tannakin off the edge. "My cave's safe, so the girls will be safe. The animals won't harm me or my friends."
Airi smiles a bit mischievously. "After dinner, we went outside and walked into the forest. As we were going into the forest, the sun started to set. It cast shadows on the ground. They looked like ghouls and we started to act like we were fighting them in battle."
In a casual yet reflective manner, Ness added, "The soulless ones live in the deeper, darker places. I do not venture there. Best to keep away from such places and things." Realising she may be frightening the younger half-elven siblings with her words, Ness added more happily, "Although, there's certainly adventure to be had in the forest, if you treat her right!"

@Tannikin I thought the same thing after i posted...lol.
I will adjust once we get to know our 4th.
I will do a combat routine example post onve I wheel to den where computer is. I use my phone for 80% of my post but complicated ones easier to use computer.

Dorian 'Grey' you are a brave soul. Thanks for the invite!
Waves at Nyswyn
Hey Nyswyn it's been a while.
DG was brave enough to invite me to his PF2 game. I've not taken the opportunity to learn it yet. So this if my first time. Looking at the party we could use a arcane caster, so I'm strongly considering a witch. If I don't think I can handle it I'll fall back to a switch hitting ranger.
Again, thanks for the invite DG, I look forward to giving PF2 a try!

Nyswyn Greenseyn |

Waves at Robert Henry. It’s good to be in a game with you, again. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the game. :)
