With a furrowed brow and her index finger on her lips, Yasami remains silent as others talk. "Maybe we can lure it out with some illusion tricks? OH! Catalina, how does that mirror duplicate of yours work? Can we use that?"

"I am not going to be a lure. I do not think this is a smart plan. Vrock are not stupid, and if they are summoned and told to guard this place, they are not going to stray far from their responsibility. Not to mention, we haven't gotten a good idea as to what this place really has in store for us. We need to scout more before trying to attack this place." Catalina crosses her arms over her chest, clearly uncomfortable with pushing back against the planning. She did not, however, have any desire to lure anything in with so many unknown factors.

"That's fair. If you don't want to, we'll figure something else out." Yasami thinks as she pulls out some jerky to chew on. She takes a bite. "I guess I will volunteer. I'll go stake out the place, see what I can find. Maybe if we can find a way INTO a mine shaft, we can bottleneck. Keep your fingers crossed, ladies and gentlemen." she picks up her things, finishes the jerky, and heads out.

I'd like to circle around the mine and try to find a place with less security so we can sneak in, or just RUN inside, and stand our ground there.

reply to Catalina eaten by Groetus

Lisi is taken aback by Yasami’s decision to head out solo, but shrugs.

”We could have at least disguised her as a charau-ka—I have a spell that does that,”
but he closes his mouth and looks around. ”Let us wait, and not send more people to scout. Caiten has it. We minimize errors this way.”

After some back and forth over planning, Yasami and Dario wait for the nearest Vrock to pass, then slink along the edge of the treeline, planning to scout around the camp.

A short distance to the south, near the bonfire, Yasami signals to Dario to be careful-- a creature is roosting in the trees here, a humanoid creature that seems part bat, (more Manbat, less Batman ;) ) hanging upside down from a tree branch it has decorated with the bones of its prey. It is currently asleep. There are four other roosts, but they are currently unoccupied.

scout-only society check DC 20:
This is a sabosan, blood drinkers with deafening screeches that share many of a bat's qualities, like echolocation.

Carefully skirting around it, you hear snippets of conversation from the bonfire. Most of it is mundane, grunted conversation amidst the charau-ka, arguing over duties or commenting on the poor meal that was being cooked. One particularly grumpy individual growled a complaint you both took special note of.

"Rrrr...Boss Hezle greedy since other kobolds leave. She hoarding potions in lab instead of giving to us!”

The others around the bonfire warned him to keep quiet, lest the boss hear him complaining and do something about his disloyalty.

Moving towards the southernmost building, you can see the boggards on the cots appear to be sickly. Yasami is quick to recognize the symptoms, having helped to treat them quite recently -- they are likely suffering from arsenic poisoning, just like the kobolds you helped were. There are voices coming from inside the building, and you can't make out conversation, but it sounds like it's probably the bunkhouse where the cultists sleep.

You pause in your scouting for a few minutes, moving deeper into the jungle as the second Vrock circles around. Once it passes you move towards the smaller building.

It's a small wooden hut and wafts of smoke are rising from a single chimney in its north wall. West of the hut is a wooden table, on which several objects lie obscured under a leather covering. A bin of rocky refuse sits beside the table. South of the hut, a fifteen-foot-diameter magical circle has been dug into the ground, the grooves filled with dull gray metal and adorned at each point with stubs of burnt-out black candles. You hazard a guess this is where the Vrocks were summoned. The table offers you the best cover for approaching the pit, so once the Vrocks are positioned in such a way as to give you the best shot, you ceep forward and peer over the edge. Revealed it in Roll20.

There was a long spiraling ramp leading down into the quarry, the entrance on the southwestern side of the pit. Charau-ka and boggards alike toiled there, and you found the two missing juvenile elephants -- they were being tasked with pulling heavy carts laden with ore up the ramp, then heading back down for more. Another of the dragon-headed pillars is down there, this one purple in coloration, and strange, tiny, floating worms are orbiting around it. There is a large murky pool of polluted water in the northern portion of the quarry.

DC 15 religion to ID worms, scouts only:
These are voidworms, creatures from the plane of Maelstrom that are drawn to chaos the way flies are drawn to discarded food. They are not especially dangerous, but it makes you wonder what this pillar might be capable of.

Completing your circuit, you find the mud to be the mine tailings, the waste material left over after the gold has been separated out of the rest of the rock. There are some odd burrow holes in the northern part of the mud pile, as if something might be living within. You pass the strange reptile in the cage, and make your way back to the others to report on what you saw.

Yasami walks ahead of Dario, beckoning him to move onward when the coast is clear. She carefully sneaks below the creature hanging from branches. She looks at Dario as she shrugs, and mouths "What is that?", then moves on further. She moves through the camp, quickly listening in on the charau-ka conversation, but decides not to push her luck. She carries on with Dario in tow, noting the dragon totem with the vermin around it. Once they return to camp, she sits down to process the stakeout. She takes out her notebook, and starts drawing the plan of the camp.

"Right. Two wrocks patroling around. Something that looks like a summoning circle..." she marks it on the map she draws. "Another dragon totem. Not sure what it does, but there are some worms around it. I have no idea what that is about."

She continues with the drawing, and makes another X on the map. "This here - there are some bat-human hybrids. I think there are five of them. We only saw one, but there were four other sets of claw marks on that tree. We might be careful, as they might be hunting."

She pauses to think. "What else? The elephant calves are in the mines. The cult uses them to pull carts with material uphill. And the charau-ka are angry with the kobold, Hezle. Supposedly she is hoarding potions in some sort of lab."

"Also-also, this building in the south, it might be some sort of barracks or living quarters for the cultists. Perhaps we could set that on fire, although I didn't see any kobolds anywhere. So Hezle might also be in that building, and would just be collateral."

When she is done, she leans against a tree trunk, and wipes some sweat from her brow.

"So - give me your thoughts. Can the summoning circle be used to - I don't know - either banish the vrocks, or break the cult's control of them?"

Dario responds by lifting his finger to be especially, nodding in regards to the man-bats hanging in the air above them. He had recognized the creatures from a circus that had passed through Alkenstar, a sideshow of the "Queer Exotics From Within Mwangi!" was written upon the side of the worn wagon. At the sight of the strange, floating worm creatures brings a curious if worried look to the gunslingers face. He returns with Yasami, taking up the rear of the scouting after lagging behind to overhear more of the camp's activities.

"Those man-bat-things are called "sabosen". They're blood drinkers and they have a scream used to stun their prey." He explains to the others, pointing then to the dragon totem and the strange worms it is crawling with. "Those are voidworms. Saw a shipment of them arrive for an inventor back in Alkenstar. They come from the plane known as Maelstrom, drawn towards chaos. They ain't dangerous but for them to be hanging around that totem...that ain't looking good at all."

"We still have the barrels of gunpowder as well. With a bit of flame or lightning, we could make them explode like no one's business. I still have my elemental chamber and can fire a burning bullet, if need be." Dario suggests, gesturing at the quarry. "Roll them in towards one of the vrocks, set it ablaze, and blow one of them straight to hell." A dangerous smirk spreads on the gunslinger's face as he pats his side, his memory coming back. "I also heard something at the camp, something strange..." He shares what he overheard just before he left the camp.

"Of course, if you roll a barrel into that bonfire, you don't even need a match," he says with a sly grin. "I am of the mind that we should free the large reptile in the cage. I can speak to it, and offer a bargain. If it attacks a vrock, then we'll give it all of the boggards to eat. Unless it just wants to run, in which case I'll ask it to hit the vrock on its way back to deeper jungle."

"I can Entangle the boggards as well. We still need a plan to divide and conquer the vrocks, though. If we blow up the charau-ka, at least one will come to investigate and attack whatever did it. We may want to incapacitate that vrock so we can take them on one at a time, so perhaps--one barrel at the charau-ka, and one behind the barracks. First one barrel, then the other."

With the plan under discussion, Dario offers the best explanations and practices to detonate the barrels. He has his magic item that will temporarily change his ammunition into something fiery but anything electrical or fiery would set the barrels to explode as well.

Lore: Explosives: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

As the sunlight began to fade, Dario began the arduous process of cleaning his firearm. The jungle was hell on the oil, grime and dirty collecting quickly upon the weapon. He barely registers someone standing beside him as he moves through his practiced motions, his eyes only lifting up from his work to stare up at the tall angelkin woman before him. Dario grunts in agreement, nodding to the side of the log he was sitting on. The leather canvas was spread out, protecting the gun parts from the moisture of the earth. He would offer what little tips he had that she had not already had, nodding in approval at her technique. She could tell that there were some things she did that irked him but it was more the tradition of the dwarves that he had been raised with rather than anything else. He kept his consul to himself, only helping if she missed something clearly.

Turning his eyes towards Yasami when she comes over, he looked around the camp. "I'll find a volunteer to go with you. Maybe one of the big boys, eh?"

Catalina would welcome the suggestions with a smile, towering over the scarred gunslinger even while they sat. The angelkin took extra care to check the etchings and symbols that coated her pistol, taking a moment to fix an etching that was beginning to get worn down. She borrowed one of Dario's little metal brushes, detailing where she needed to and smirking quietly at the small noises of irritation that Dario would make about her process here and there. Nikolai had taught her well, but when the weapon was part of her strange brand of resonant magic, things needed to be done in a certain way.

Catalina was snapping the last pieces back into place when Yasami approached and essentially set her and Dario to first watch. The thaumaturge let the gunslinger handle the watch arrangements without paying close attention; instead, she stowed her pistol in its holster and brought out her mirror, polishing is surface as the two spoke, more than happy to engage in conversation if she was addressed.

When Yasami made her leave, the thaumaturge would stretch languidly, glancing at Dario out of the corner of her eyes. She spread her blanket on her lap and quietly shuffled her Harrow deck, eyes on the treeline. Despite the size of her, the blanket had quite a bit of excess. After a moment, Catalina turns to Dario with a mischievous smile, her light blue eyes glowing in the growing darkness. "So, what is your favorite drink, then? I'm guessing some sort of Dwarven ale, but I feel like that's too easy of an answer." She continues to fidget with her Harrow deck, splitting and shuffling it with a practiced rhythm.

"I'll take third watch," says Lisi distractedly. He's deep in the midst of thinking about spells, moving his hands as if he has an invisible cat's cradle and muttering in Druidic.

The night passes without incident, the sounds of mining picks on stone a constant background percussion as the cultists seemingly have shifts work even in the darkness.

Morning comes, and rain comes with it. The overcast sky is still light enough to see unimpeded, but fat, heavy drops fall from the sky to make for a dreary, drenched start to your day. Sweet. I'll wake you. Good night, everyone." Yasami prepares her bag, closes the tent and tries to sleep.

When woken by Catalina and Dario, she climbs oit of the tent, stretches a bit, and pulls out her medicine kit, blades, and bow.

She checks on the twine and the arrowheads a few times, she polishes her sword and dagger, then continues to make short patrols around the camp just to keep her away from falling asleep. To the point where she creates a few walking paths around the place. Her sight frequently drops to the warglets, blissfully rolling around in the undergrowth. After two hours, she walks up to Lisi and nudges his shoulder. "Your shift, Lis. You okay to go?”

After making sure Lisi is awake, she slowly opens the bag to make sure she is not disturbing anything. If not, she climbs inside, tries to move Catalina away to make space, and lies down.

Rain peppering the tent wakes her up in the morning. She gets out of the tent, and sighs. "Well... Might as well make use of it. Be right back."

Yasami walks away for a few minutes. When she comes back, her skin and hair seems cleaner. She has her hair in a bundle, and wrapped in one of her shawls.

"Oh, I needed that. There's a large leaf that way that collects water and it runs down in one place, if anyone needs soap? Obviously not hot water, but... Does the job."

"If nothing else, it wakes one up."

In the evening

"Ready. Trying to keep my head clear for tomorrow," says Lisi with an apologetic smile to Yasami.

In the morning

"All we can do is all we can do, Caiten," says Lisi with a smile. "If I'm discovered, you'll hear it."

Lisi gets to the edge of the clearing and casts Speak With Animals, and then waves his hands again, muttering, and shrinks down to a teeny tiny size.

Shrink

He then makes his way across the right hand side of the mine clearing, carefully.

~~~First Watch~~~
"My favorite drink?" Dario said with a chuckle, scratching at his chin. Even at night, the humidity of the jungle stuck to him and left a sheen that the faint light that remained glinted off of. Sure that his weapons were clean and maintained, he fetched the string, leather, and needle to patch his clothing and reinforce the parts that were slowly falling apart. It wasn't as nearly as focused of a task though, able to hold conversation easily during it. "You'd be wrong actually. It is the most common drink but I myself am a fan of cacti fruit. There is this fruit, the prickly pear, that grows on them. You ferment it and in Alkenstar, there is the Oilroad Distillery. They distill it into a beautiful, clear drink. Mix it with cactus fruit juice? Delicious." Dario murmurs, thinking fondly of the cool drink mixed with the wonderful burn that would spread through his very being.
"The clan weren't that appreciative of it at first but I got them warmed up to it." Dario said with an amused grin, his mind returning to the drunken stupor as they all 'tested' its potency. "How about yourself? I'm not one of Torag's children but I have a soul of rock just like them. I need to know how to make your drink."
~~~The Next Day~~~

"We'll fight smarter, stronger, fiercer. We'll make them pay for every inch they try to take." Dario offers to Caiten, smiling at his android friend. "You've made us as ready as we can be. We'll take it from here, yeah?" He grins at Cev's words, lifting up his wooden bracelet. He gives each a quick kiss, whispering a small prayer in Dwarven over the symbol.

"Bit' goryacho, bey tochno, bey pervym."

Dwarven:
"Strike hot, strike true, strike first."

As they approach the encampment, Dario hands over the bag of holding that contains the explosive barrels and moves to an overwatch position ready to lay down gunfire as needed and support the fall back to the appointed rendevouz spot where they will fight.

Caiten watches curiously as over the course of about a minute, Sulee becomes a much smaller and two-dimensional version of herself flattened up against one of his arms. "Oh- it's a go?" Yasami quickly drops the hair down and takes the bag, barrel and one invisibility potion. At least she assumes it's the right one. "This is my drink?" she confirms with literally anyone know knows. Not sure if we are labelling the vials or not.

"Be right back. If chaos ensues, that's your cue to wing it." she gives the group a quick smile, and disappears in the trees.

She moves closer towards the southern building, waits for an opportune moment, and drinks the potion. Quickly, she moves to the door of the southernmost building and peeks inside. She moves inside if necessary to poke around corners and such, if there are any interior walls.

Trying to find out where to put the barrel. While sneaking, I still have 15 ft of movement per action, assuming 3 actions per turn, meaning an action every 2 seconds. Should be some 15 x (60/2) feet to move in total. This is already halved movement, so One minute should be enough time to check both buildings, plant the barrel, then disappear in the treeline.

I would place the keg near the western wall, so that the party can see it from their hiding place.

"Yasami wait ... you know a long time ago, I had a lot of these. I want you to take this dagger, from Kyonin. There will be a day that I have more, hopefully there will be a day that we all visit Kyonin together, but on THIS day, it would mean a lot to me if you would carry this with you into our next battle."
