Rakesh, Total Defense is a standard action, and because you made the first attack vs. Red, you cannot do Total Defense. You can either continue your full attack (stepping between the first and second strikes) or you can take a move action.

Kit continues her performance, lamenting the fact that she is ill suited for combat against undead, as most bards are. She's heard that at some bardic colleges it is a running joke to scare one another with fake undead.
She pulls out a wand of CLW and moves over near Rakesh (poor Roderick being out of reach). Though not particularly effective, it is something.

Roderick watches to see how the large black creature reacts to Rakesh and the ladies activities.
My bombs were not overly effective. I am not ready to take another hit like the last.

End of combat - no healing necessary, that was the final combat.
The gigantic mirror cracks from top to bottom, showering the ground with shards of glass. Dark gray mist, churning like boiling water, seeps from the fissures and forms a shadowy cloud.
“Fated, that one. Bound in threads not of her making, impotently thrashing against them and yet—as long as they tug, she dances.”
The voice, coarse and ancient, emanates from a feminine silhouette now visible within. Far taller than any human, she shakes her head and sets her wild mane of hair dancing between her jagged horns.
“She dances on and on, and there you are—running behind her. But who, they ask, threaded the strings?”
The silhouette raises one arm, holding aloft a familiar-looking lantern burning with a cold blue light.
“Introductions now, I suppose. I am Aslynn.” Her tone is heavy with amusement. “I am the weaver, the maker, an inveterate taker. Here I am, dreamers. What now?”
You are free to make this section as long or as short as you wish. There are some anticipated questions to which I have the answers to, and I have GMed a few other scenarios that I can draw from, but there may be questions that are outside the scope of the scenario / series / campaign. When you're done, simply have your character click their heels three times and you'll wake up in the Absentia Archive.

"Where is 322?"
“Gone. Away from those who would harm her, for now. She has a role yet to play in what is to come, but, venomous serpents are ever so persistent, aren’t they?"

To be honest, I'm a bit lost on the story. I thought we were chasing 322 into this dream land to get the lantern with Aram Zey's soul. We found her, and she created weird mirror images of herself to attack us. Along with a bunch of undead or planar creatures... Yeah. I'm lost.

GM Watery Soup |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Aslynn sighs. "How does one explain the universe to those as limited as those that follow?"
I was thoroughly confused as well - and in part, still am, as I have not played any of the scenarios referenced in this one, nor any followups to it. I will paraphrase the background to the scenario.
"The one known only by her research number 322, imprisoned Zey’s soul within a magical lantern stolen from the Blakros Museum. This assassination was a part of 322’s first field test should have left Zey’s soul in Consortium hands.
Unbeknownst to the Society, 322 never delivered the lantern to the Aspis Consortium as intended. She instead absconded with the magical lantern into the largest library in Absalom, the Forae Logos. There, I reached out as an enigmatic benefactor and promised knowledge about her origin and her powers.
Aspis agents tracked her to the Forae Logos, but they underestimated her power and her desire to remain out of Consortium hands; the ensuing battle caused significant damage to a wing of the Forae Logos and unleashed all manner of once-bound magic and entities.
After the battle, 322 delved deeper into Forae Logos, following instructions fed to her in dreams. In a lost floor of the library, I led her to a tome called the Libram of Forgotten Dreams, a magical relic. By means of a ritual contained within the Libram, 322 managed to physically enter the Dimension of Dreams.
I met her here, and in exchange for the lantern containing Aram Zey’s soul, I have secreted her beyond the Dimension of Dreams to somewhere safer.
You will not find her. Your quest is finished.
We will meet again."

![]() |

Roderick listens intently as the story unravels, pulling out his pipe and lighting it.
”Absolutely fascinating. How can we be sure of either event? Her being safely locked.swat or meeting with you again? But our thanks are warranted nonetheless. “
He bows

![]() |

"Which means that all we have to show for this expedition is knowledge. No lantern. No soul. Well, the society is a big fan of knowledge and hopefully that will be sufficient to earn our pay. As for Zey, I wish his soul the best of luck, but it is no longer my problem. Let's go home. Unless you all think we should try to wrest it from this creature."

![]() |

Incase it was not apparent, auto-correct decided "swat" was better than "Away" in Roderick's response. :P

![]() |

"Bah. I will catch that 322 sooner or later."
Rakesh scoffs in disappointment.
"No lantern and no Aram Zey. I hope we can find him soon. Maybe our next adventures will get us closer to obtaining our goals."
Rakesh bows respectfully to his companions.
"It was quite the pleasure adventuring with you all. I hope our paths do cross again and I get the chance to battle at your side."

Aslynn turns and re-enters the mirror, and as she does, the world begins to crumble around the Pathfinders. They can either wake themselves up at any time, or they will be forced awake when the last bit of land crumbles under their feet as they fall into the dreamscape mist.
Awake safe and sound back in the Archive Absentia, the Pathfinders learn hours have passed while they slept. Second Archivist Qilaus Sandaril has followed the PCs here and is in conversation with Aliyas. He is astounded by the discovery of the Archive Absentia and thanks the Pathfinders for their heroic efforts in subduing the planar disturbance. Aliyas, likewise, thanks the Pathfinders for helping to reunite her with the Forae Logos’s staff, and she intends to carry out her duties for as long as she remains capable of maintaining her spiritual form.
Kreighton Shaine eagerly awaits the Pathfinders’ findings. He is astounded by the story, especially being able to communicate directly with the Aslynn. Armed with knowledge of the lantern’s powers, and that it now is in the possession of a powerful night hag, the Master of Scrolls seems even more determined than ever to recover Aram Zey’s soul. He and several other planes-savvy Pathfinders begin launching their own inquiries to track Aslynn and the elf 322 before any further harm befalls the deceased Master of Spells. The Pathfinders have secured critical intelligence in the name of the Pathfinder Society, and their accomplishments will not soon be forgotten.
Kreighton rewards each Pathfinder with one of the following items of their choice: a malleable symbol, a lesser ring of revelation, a seducer’s bane, a voidfrost robe, bracers of sworn vengeance, a manual of gainful exercise +1, a ring of blinking, or a robe of scintillating colors. These items appear on the adventure’s Chronicle sheet, and a PC may only purchase one.
End of Scenario!

grimdog73's second pregen |

Hopefully through our efforts, the society can do something to get Aram's soul back. I don't think there is a much worse fate than to have your soul taken and not ascend to the next world...I suppose, there are worse physical things...but spiritually that is near the top of the list for me... Kyra says as she reflects on the group's findings and report.
Aye, we worked well together. I would gladly venture out with you guys again. If you need me, I'll be at the abbey...i have some research to do... Kyra says with a nod to the others before taking her leave.
