GM WhtKnt's Castle Amber

Game Master WhtKnt

The party awakens in a strange manor, plucked from their homeworld and imprisoned within. To escape, the heroes must negotiate a path through the insane Amber family home, overcoming the clan's machinations, dangerous servants, cunning traps, and bizarre phenomena. Only by finding a way to break the curse of Stephen Amber will the party be able to return home. Failure means a lifetime of imprisonment in Castle Amber, a place where lifetimes can be very short indeed...

Yucale,
Karhu is a woodsy type who lives a quiet lifestyle devoted to herbs and healing. He does, however, know Elvish, and if your rude boi spends some time in the woods or looking for healing herbs, they might very well be acquainted.

I don't have a DnD Beyond account so can't see your characters, but if you want to be from Dreadwood in Keoland then we could all know of each other. Charles Martel was mentioned in Keoland, if we are connecting dots from other campaigns, so that brings in Brian as well. I have not seen where in Greyhawk this adventure starts.

Aletta is a tiefling bounty hunter who mingles with Elves - she has a growing reputation in those parts.

I see no particular reason that Rakbura wouldn't be from Dreadwood - I'm not sure he would have spent much time around a bounty hunter, but he might have bought spell components from Karhu before?

You could be aware of a tiefling that has relationships with the Elves of Dreadwood. We wouldn't need to know one another personally.

Are we good to turn on Gameplay and dot in?

Karhu is fine with Dreadwood as his homeland, though I don’t know that much about it. Everyone needs healing now and then, especially those in dangerous lines of work, so a healer is an obvious point of connection.

Looking for advice: the Internet seems to have reached consensus that Booming Blade is the best cantrip for Eldritch Knight, but I don't get it. Why would I give up an attack to cast a cantrip that may or may not inflict damage and is contingent on the target moving? Seems like a waste of an action. Seems like Mind Sliver has greater utility as an offensive cantrip.

I've heard good things about Mind Sliver, and picked it up for Rakbura.

I look forward to stacking psychic damage with you!

Keoland is my nation of origin as well. The fact that Savas was a bandit before serving his time and Aletta is a bounty hunter might make for some interesting interactions. :) I suspect Savas would have potentially purchased or received healing from Karhu at some point. Or could have worked with him after his training in the ways of mercy. Same goes for Rakbura. As for Brian, well I'm guessing any time spent in a pub we could have run into him. Bards are always getting thrown out of...I mean performing...in pubs. ;)

Since we're 3rd level, it seems entirely possible we could have all adventured together at least once prior to this.

What's the plan for kicking this game off?

Dark Archive

As soon as everyone is ready, we’ll get underway. I should be recovered from whatever this is I have tomorrow.

I believe I am ready, unless anything else in specific is needed from me : )

Silver Crusade

Oh aye, I should think it strange if any of you didn't meat Brian the Bard in a bar! "Oooooo, I once knew Savas from Nantucket...."

Yeppers, I say let us kick this mad mad cap adventure off and we'll just poke any slow-pokes with the pokin' stick if any are slow to poke in. Poke.

I've finally settled on spells. Question for DM: Can I have already cast Find Familiar before gameplay begins? If not, what is my access to a brass brazier?

I think I'm ready to go.

Dark Archive

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yes, you may cast find familiar before setting out.

Thank you, GM. Aletta's pet vampire bat, Sagittarius, will be hidden safely away in her pocket dimension until called upon.

Are we waiting on anyone to check in?

Dark Archive

Just me. I was a little ill Sunday and yesterday and am recovering today. I hope to get enough time after dinner to kick things off, but if not, then I will definitely do so in the morning.

Dark Archive

Rakbura's link leads only to a blank page of Paizo. I don't understand. I am logged in to D&D Beyond.

Er, try this?

Rakbura

Dark Archive

Much better, thanks! And I should have the opening up tonight, with any luck.

Silver Crusade

FYI, all, gameplay is up.

Begin!
