Sorry to lawyer this introductory encounter. I think the way the betting rules are described, we make a wager for each boxing round. Is that right? Also, before I commit to gameplay - roleplaying my alignment - is there anything preventing me from betting money I don't have? The main NPC is throwing around numbers like there is no limit to his stash.

Okay, to clarify:
1) He will not extend credit. You must have the cash to cover your bets.
2) The champion must face the magen alone but can make whatever prep he desires, including receiving buffing from others.

Do you folks prefer block initiative or individual initiative? Either works for me, but block init is faster.

![]() |

Hurricane time. Please be patient and, gods willing, I'll see you on the other side.

![]() |

It brushed us, off the mark by about 150 miles, but when you're talking about a storm of that size, that isn't much. Brian, yes, I can put room numbers on there if it will help.

![]() |

Rakbura, if you could put your character details in your profile so we know what you can do, we might have some good advice.
As long as you have one combat cantrip, like firebolt, that's usually pretty good.
Also, Aletta, Poison isn't quite the TPK monster it was in 3.X. We have a druid and a bard, and that should be adequate to keep the damage at bay.

![]() |

@Rak, we seem to have them in a good spot now, so wailing away with the cantrip is fine. And, yeah, it says you don't have any 2nd lvl spells so those would be good to add. =)
@GM, is this /color thing something new?

![]() |

Yes, I added the colors to make it easier for me to tell which ones were affected.

![]() |

Moves will be delayed a day or three, we are dealing with a family crisis. Thank you for your understanding.

![]() |

My wife's beloved aunt passed away today, so it may be a day or two more while we deal with that.

![]() |

I will be on vacation from the 5th of November to the 17th of November, inclusive, and will have very limited access during this time (I'm going to Disneyworld). If I am in your game, please bot me. If you are in my game, please sit tight and we will resume on my return. I will try to get as much posting in as possible prior to this time, but we are still dealing with a death in the family.

Totally unrelated discussion: I've been geeking out to Manowar again lately. I know they're not everyone's booze; among metal fans they are highly polarizing. But is there a better metal lyric than this?
There they wait in fear with swords in feeble hands.
With dreams to be a king, first one should be a man!
I call them out and charge them all with a life that is a lie,
And in their final hour they shall confess before they die!
Joey DeMaio gets a lot of well-deserved crap for his writing, but he is at his best when he's playing to angst and commenting on larger truths.

![]() |

Um, I'd like to field that question.
For as how "METAL!" something is, I compare it to how pumped up it makes me while lifting iron.
As second runner up we have the little known Death Stars's Last Ammunition.
This is the ultimate end, I'll make it sure that you will see.
As I shall kiss the cold steel and see how dark this day really can be.
Something about that line really strikes me. It's like it doesn't matter what the other guy is gonna do, Imma up the ante until can't be up'd no more.
First runner up we have Sabaton's The Last Stand.
Then the 189
In the service of heaven
They're protecting the holy line
It was 1527
Gave their lives on the steps to heaven
Thy will be done!
Like, the year 1527, you don't think about it. Ever. But in that year that you never thought about a hundred and eighty-nine guys straight up died fighting to protect the frickin' Pope.
For the winner of the "I ALWAYS kick it up a notch whenever I hear this" award is:
We alone are fighting for metal that is true
We own the right to live the fight we're here for all of YOU!
When you're lifting, imagine that you're in a gladiatorial ring, and when you hear those last words you raise both hands to point and indicate the whole crowd. Just an awesome feeling.
This is of course Manowar's Warriors of the World. (This version was banned by Youtube for some time because it was too awesome. And also reasons.)
Honorable mention to ManoWar's Die with Honor:
Fight with blood
Fight with steel
Die with honor
Never yield
Fearless hearts
Filled with pride
Into glory we shall ride
And Honorable mention to ManoWar's Hands of Doom:
We are high atop a mountain with hammers in the wind
Lusting for blood and death again
In a flash of lightning strike
Now the house of death invites you, body and soul to come within
(This version was -also- banned by Youtube, and this is a re-post.)
So basically I guess what we're saying here is that ManOWar does some good lyrics. ^_^
Like, I actually listen to a lot more Amaranthe nowadays, but they arn't native speakers and their lyrics are like a dictionary in a blender. Like that song, The Nexus, is probably their flagship, but the chorus:
I break with the past
Set the nexus free at last
As the future will be there to save us
...well, it doesn't get many biceps to a-pumpin, I guess.
Their best song lyrically is probably 82nd all the way but that is itself a Sabaton cover.

Yes! Warriors of the World is Joey's masterwork, and it's not just the lyrics, which we both have as our favorite. The way he builds the melody with the simple snare hits and then his bass comes in with that octave drop into the beat. You can't help but immediately start rocking to that.
Brian, just yesterday I received a copy of Gods of War Live that I found on discogs for original retail - total steal! They close the concert with Odin and then Hymn of the Immortal Warriors, and after Eric's final scream the orchestra and the guitars are holding on while the crowd is going insane - and you can just imagine this - Eric gives the farewell, with all this noise and music behind him, and he says, "You've been f~##ing great! And we will see you all... in Valhalla!" That literally brought me to tears it is so awesome, a complete theater of the mind experience.
I wouldn't go so far as to say Manowar changed my life - a lot of people do - but they have definitely made my life better.

Came back from vacation into a wasp's nest of things that need to be done. I'll need a few more days. I will post as soon as I am able.

@ DM: Interesting thing about Mind Sliver:
"You drive a disorienting spike of psychic energy into the mind of one creature you can see within range. The target must succeed on an Intelligence saving throw or take 1d6 psychic damage and subtract 1d4 from the next saving throw it makes before the end of your next turn."
Huh. So, I guess it first makes an INT save against that, and then if it fails it takes that penalty against my Mockery.
Go team synergy! =D

There will be a delay of game. I apologize to everyone, but this is unavoidable. We are putting an expansion onto our house and when they opened the wall, they found extensive (very extensive) termite damage. So In addition to the uncontrolled chaos of having my home torn apart and remodeled, I am dealing with a rather expensive termite treatment bill (and they just keep finding more). Finally, I have a convention coming up that I serve on staff for (running the entire game room and taking care of the website). This has left me frazzled and has overcome my depression meds to the point that I am on the edge of a razor over the abyss.
I am not shutting the game down, just letting you know that my posts will be sporadic for the next several weeks until we get this resolved (hopefully by the end of the month). I will try to update as often as I can, but please be understanding if there is a long delay.

I'm good if you folks are. I was waiting for a response to the last thing Aletta posted.

Maybe we should talk about what we want from this game. Seems like I'm the one pushing the action, but then also passing on the action if I think the odds are bad. If the group signed up for a dungeon crawl where we fight through every room for the sake of being thorough, that's all well and good, although we're already smarting from a couple of weak fights.
