Ro doesn't seem to have any luck striking the Spirit miss, and Jakoby seems to have this issue as well. The first arrow launched towards the creature seems to go right past the creature's side but also scratches some kind of barrier. The northern orange smoke-filled connection lights up slightly in response to this, and the second arrow misses by a large margin miss x2
The white troll looks at Zac and Greezgux hungrily as they approach...

As the elf continues his chant, the runes begin to flicker. Seeing his chance, Amada quickly kicks the chains bonding the troll to the site, provoking it to attack the ground around it in rage. As its hand lifts from the ground, the rune has been smeared beyond recognition, lacking the strength to maintain its shape. "Thank you for your cooperation, chum," the elf mocks from the safety of his invisibility.
Gauging the distance to the next ring, the elf deftly dodges past the troll's chains and the heat of the circle to get in range of the next one; giving a shrill whistle to Necalli from across the field, finally mobilizing his companion.

The white troll, from the ground, looks at Zac with hungry eyes as he gets up, but it is still recovering from its last strike It AoO'ed Greezgux so no reaction. The white trolls wounds once again begin to rapidly heal as it stands up once more, undoubtedly relieved not to be immediately knocked to the ground. It then turns its hungry eyes on the very large meal next to it--Greegux. It opens its jaws and then sinks its teeth into the huge goblin's legs. Then it tries to slice him with its claws but misses Hit for 13 P, then miss
The Green troll's wounds do not seem to heal themself quite yet, though no acid remains on it at all...regen will be active next turn

Who haven't I tried invoking the name of? I've tried the most of the primary deities, the aeons... Oh, there is that deity... Rushing back to the rune he'd previously failed to disable, the elf hearkens back to memories of his youth as he invokes the name of a deity he'd nearly forgotten about. "In the name of Ydajisk, the mother of tongues; I bear witness to these ancient runes, committing them to the libraries of language preservation eternal. Their original meaning now preserved, I invoke the rite of Slang, thus evolving the original intent of this ancient text to its modern meaning!" ... and invalidating the ritual in the process, picky as these incantations are with their words. Gods above, this language nonsense is hard to follow...
Seeing the runes shift before him and taking it as a sign of Ydajisk's favor, the elf dashes off to deal with the final Rune, as Necalli continues to circle the spirit.

Amada double-backs to pink's rune and with the apparent sign of Ydajisk's favor, he has no trouble deciphering and disabling the rune. Success!. Another connection drops between the ritual and the spirit-- this connection previously lit up when negative energy lashed out at attackers.
Astrid's becomes concealed in a faint mist as she tries to bash the Spirit with her shield boss. The Spirit, however, easily dodges away. Miss "So this one is a threat? the spirit laughs as it lashes its claws out at Jakoby. The first claw reaches rips through Jakoby's chest with intense force. The second claw follows suit and rips through Jakoby's chest from the other side. Both swipes attempt to drain life from Jakoby.

Quinoline moves into the ring.
Will: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
I don't think we know what failing this will save means; if we do and it's not that bad, I won't use the reroll and skip to the healing part. But if we don't know, that's fine too - I'll reroll, and use Heroic Intervention: Your heroic moments grant others the will to keep fighting. When you spend a Hero Point, you and any allies within 30 feet who can see you regain 4d6 Hit Points. This healing also affects dying allies, even if they cannot see you due to being unconscious. This should heal Jakoby even if Quinoline fails the will save reroll.
"Oh, no, spirit, you've got me!"
Quinoline smirks as her will appears to falter. The smirk grows into a wide grin as she reveals that she has some reserves left.

Quinoline reaches down and touches Jakoby on the shoulder.
"No lying down on the job. We've still got work to do. Valais's orders."
Power flows from Quinoline's fingertips as she mentions the name Valais.
Valais’s Assurance: You may check a box next to this boon and spend an action to use the champion focus spell lay on hands, heightened appropriately for your level. This does not cost a Focus Point. [X][ ]
30 more healing for Jakoby, and a +2 status bonus to AC for 1 round.
As quickly as she entered, Quinoline leaves the circle, breaking for the last rune.

Zac uses Hunt Prey on the red floating guy, making sure he marks him good and uses Doubleshot (the feat that targets two different creatures with only a -2 penalty) on the red floating guy and the green troll, only cause he is paranoid the red floating guy is going to do something to release the trolls, and the last thing he wants is one chasing him when he can down a troll temporarily to prevent that

Guys, I know the trolls are chained, but what if he casts a spell of some sort to release them?
I counted, I'm at range 1 for both, but what I don't know is what kind of cover each of them have or even if they are concealed, so factor that in if you wish. I suspect the red guy might be at least concealed via fire, from the outside so I'm going to roll my flat check in case you call for one.

@Quinoline, we have not yet seen a failure to enter the flames so it seems hero point is used to prevent finding out what that failure may be.

1d20 + 16 - 8 ⇒ (17) + 16 - 8 = 25 2d8 + 8 ⇒ (7, 2) + 8 = 17
Quinoline bursts through the flames, hardly paying attention to them at all as her ring of fire resistance absorbs the few flames that would otherwise harm her. Once again her heroic efforts provide a glimpse of hope for those nearby success, 2 fire dmg reduced to 0!
As the mosquito witch doll runs past the large troll, the troll decides to pick on something smaller than itself this time-- It slices its claw right through the doll ripping out many pieces of dried wheat stalks in the process Crit Doll for 30 dmg!. Then as Greezgux approches the last remaining rune, the blue troll takes a swing at him but it was ill-prepared for such a large goblin approaching it so rapidly. miss!
@Zac- The scenario doesn't specify cover for shooting into the circle. At most I would consider lesser cover, but since it wasn't outlined then I'm willing to say you've got a clear line of sight-- the flames are flickering enough to give intermittent clear sight.
Zac shoots two arrows rapidly. He has a clear shot at the Spirit and sees his arrow look like it hit the Spirit, however, the arrow appears to go straight through it. Hit, but 0 dmg (resist). The shot towards the green troll is a miss and fails to put the creature down.
The green and white troll's wounds begin to heal themselves. Green is no longer looking so close to death. The Blue troll takes the moment to recover itself before trying to bite Greezgux's legs, but it's jaws couldn't quite fit around Greezgux's massive thigh. The blue troll then swipes its claws twice; the first claw is no where near the goblin, and the second claw gets within an inch of Greezgux but the troll's arm is snapped back by the chains. miss x3

Somehow Quinoline is able to interrupt the soul-stealing power of the Red Spirit just long enough for the residual primal energy to overcome and reverse the transit of our ulfen hero's soul to a place darker than it's intended destination of Elysium.
Color returns to "Amma" Gunda Kolkind's skin, and from the ground she observes the last piece of the puzzle, taunting her slayer from her compromised position.
"A single Rune stands between you and Ruination - and between our large and hidden allies, your defenses are soon compromised!"
She glances across the field at the Final Strand between the party and their Final Stand!
Astrid Gertasdottir |
"Ha! That was close. Hold still Amma."
Astrid reaches into a belt pouch and pulls out a poultice which she then slaps on her wounds and those of the older ulfen.
